An amazing experience. The location is amazing, right on the bay with a view of all the boats. We got a seat right next to the window, and our waitress was very friendly. The calamari was tasty, and the highlight of the meal was the grilled Hake special they had. My dad and I were fighting over who would get to finish it, because we had agreed to split our entrees as he got the walleye and perch combo. Would highly recommend ordering off the specials menu in the future. And then their créeme brûlée was a delicious way to finish the meal. read more

We've eaten here before but I've never written a review. Bar special: fish & chips $15, shrimp $15 w/ cider sangrias! They weren't busy on arrival but got busy fast. Food was served hot & quickly but we did not receive best service from our waitperson. Fish was awesome and housemade tarter was perfect. My husband and I were in Harbor Springs and decided to eat lunch at the Pier. First of all, the town is stunning. With s trip all by itself. When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted and seated right away. Our server was Autumn and she was a 5 star sever! She was very helpful with the menu and drink items. I had a Sheboygan beer that had a hint of blood orange. It was great! For lunch I had the cherry chicken salad, which came with house baked fruit bread (wonderful), grapes, pineapple, cantaloupe & honey dew melon. It was excellent! My husband had s bowl of seafood chowder, which he said was great. The restaurant is right on the water. They have outside seating as well as a really nice bar. Do yourself a favor and eat here. If Autumn is your server, that will be a plus! read more

After a long day on the road to our vacation home, we needed a nice bite to eat. After deciding on the Pier we ate inside due to a 45 minute wait for an outside table. No problem eating inside, but it reminded me of a Frishes Big Boy or Ponderosa complete with a gross salad bar, big screen TV on the wall and lots of loud kids running around. All of us ordered the fish special... Planked Perch. While the staff was friendly, the food was sub par by a long shot. Fish was frozen before cooked (no flavor), mashed potato's we very dry and burnt on the top, and the spaghetti squash was like a mush with absolutely no taste. Thank God we were tired and were able to wash all this down with a bottle of wine, otherwise we would have been very cranky. We won't be back. read more

The morel bisque was fantastic. I wish I had gotten a bowl instead of a cup and skipped the whitefish sandwich. The latter was dry, thin and the "dill bun" had no flavor except like that of a plain white bun. The setting is nice and the server was good, hence the 4 stars. read more

Our family of five arrived and was seated at 7:51 pm. Our waitress took our order drink order and dinner order. We received our drinks, rolls, salad after 15 minutes. The waitress returned around 830 to pickup the plates . The waitress never returned to our table and we finally got another waitress to check and she said she would check on on the order. The manager came around 9:20 and explained they never started the order. We left $20 for the waitress and was told never mind about the salad and drinks and only said they were sorry. The restaurant was only half capacity. I would never give this restaurant a chance again. read more

I was very disappointed with our dinner at the Pier. We came here on our trip up north for some planked whitefish on the recommendation of our hotel concierge. The whitefish was ok, but had no trace of oak; I feel that we would have gotten the same taste in their baked whitefish for half the price. We were not very hungry, so we decided to split the whitefish and the cherry bibb salad. This was listed as $7.50 on the menu, but was priced as $13 on our bill for the "entree" version. There was no indication that there was a separate entree price, nor was the size of the salad sufficient for an entree, and this surprise price increase definitely soured our already underwhelmed opinion of the meal. I will say that the salad was good taste-wise, as was the service, so perhaps it was an off night on the whitefish? Nonetheless, for the quality and quantity of food, our dinner was definitely overpriced. read more

A very disappointing meal on the patio, our waitress couldn't have cared less that it took the kitchen three tries to get a salad right. The burger was over cooked and not very good. We came for the view and were hopeful about the food but were extremely disappointed. Way over priced for what you get. I would like to point out that Jody contacted me from the restaurant and apologized for our experience and made a very generous offer to have us back. I went to Stafford's to meet up with a friend I had not seen in a long time. I expected a beautiful view of the water, but did not expect such a delicious lunch. Everything was prepared perfectly! We originally planned to sit on the deck as we were very casually dressed, the hostess assured us that we would be fine in the dining room and we felt very comfortable amongst all the guests in various resort wear attire. Stephanie took great care of us, she was attentive, patient and sweet. As we were walking out, my kids asked when we could come back. A must try on any Harbor Springs stop! read more

The noodles look tired in a crock and the grapes that accompanied them had seen a better day. My sons ravioli was breaded with sauce on the side to either pour or dip. The breading was too heavy. It's already pasta, it didn't need breading. Interesting but unnecessary. Kids menu is a coloring page but no crayons are available. Either have crayons or print the menu differently. I normally carry crayons for my kids "just in case" but didn't have my normal bag since we are on vacation. All and all it was a lovely experience. I know this is a standard for some of the locals and a favorite for many but at that price point we may have second thoughts. read more

My husband and I arrived at Stafford Pier Restaurant on the evening of July 4th, to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, our original destination (an hour away) was closed, and we'd been turned away by another restaurant in Harbor Springs due to the busy holiday. As soon as we stepped into Stafford's beautiful restaurant, I was certain they'd have no room for us either. But when Theresa (the manager) saw our faces - tired and hungry from two hours of hunting for a place to celebrate our special day - she worked her magic and found us a wonderful table with a view. My husband and I had a phenomenal meal. He enjoyed the Bibb salad with Scottish salmon as his appetizer and the perch and whitefish entree, while I savored the Mediterranean pasta (thanks to Theresa's recommendation). The peanut butter pie was to die for. And the service was fantastic. In fact, the manager came to our table to check up on us and make sure we were happy. As if things couldn't get any better, we were given our first round of cocktails on the house. Our evening couldn't have been better, and we will always remember celebrating an amazing anniversary at Stafford's Pier Restaurant. We can't wait to visit them during our next visit to Michigan. read more

Stafford's Pier Restaurant, or just "The Pier" definitely has my spot for #1 restaurant in harbor springs. The delicious food, the beautiful interior, fantastic views, and fun atmosphere makes the visit entirely worth it. I recommend the grilled Scottish salmon. Update: yes, Heather, as you point out there were significant delays in placing orders and we received poor service throughout. We were never offered the opportunity to order additional cocktails, our waters were never filled, and our food was cold. We were not in a hurry but yes, we expected a level of service that aligns with our previous experiences at Stafford's (attentive servers, refill offers, opportunity to enjoy hummers after dinner, and warm food). Staffords has always been a pleasant experience and I'm disappointed you'd take this type of approach when your staff doesn't deliver an experience that aligns with Stafford's brand. Initial review: I'm so disappointed to write this review because Stafford's has always been a favorite of ours. We were seated at 8pm in a lovely spot near the water. From there the service was incredibly slow and lackluster. We were never offered a second cocktail, waters weren't filled, food was very very slow to come out and was ice cold when it arrived (our entrees arrived over an hour after placing the order). I ordered cedar plank fish and when the plank went sliding off my plate onto my dress, the server never offered additional napkins or soda water to clean my outfit. She simply walked away. We wanted to order their infamous Hummers for dessert and our server promptly said they now offer them "to go". None of us wanted to take them to go but she packaged them up anyway. We asked if straws were included in the package and she said "no, I don't have any straws with me". No offer to get straws for us. By the time we walked home, they were melted. We waited until the last night of our vacation to end with an amazing dinner at Stafford's and couldn't have been more disappointed. read more

Location, location, location. Fantastic location on the pier that makes for a great atmosphere. We took a private boat tour that left from the restaurant and then ate here. The salads were the highlight for sure - great Caesar salad and caprese salad with heirloom tomatoes that made it special. Surprisingly the pork tacos were the hit of the entrees. The crab cakes had way too much filler, the whitefish was okay, and the Calamari pasta was big in size but not in flavor. The hamburger and grilled chicken were burnt to a crisp. Fairly pricey to boot, so while we enjoyed the nostalgia of coming here we won't be back soon. read more

Had the broiled whitefish with squash and ratatouille. We were told that the full whitefish entrée has an 11 oz piece of whitefish while the whitefish/perch combo has 5-6 oz of whitefish. Enjoyed the excellent ambiance of the setting tonight at the Pier.As we had made reservations we were seated immediately at our table and warmly greeted by our cheerful waitress Liz. The service was top notch and food was promptly served.The morel soup is still excellent and the chowder was creamy and very good. Two of us had their Whitefish planked with veggies and potato, it was as advertised: delish. The perch dinner was very good and there were plenty of them. Fish mustav been really bitting.Tried the cherry pie with vanilla bean ice cream which could have been warmer, but we cleaned our plates.All in all a very enjoyable evening was made better by a great waitress and staff. read more

Considering all the food in Harbor Springs is mediocre, I still love going to the Pier at least once while visiting. The whitefish and perch are decent, the sandwiches are passable. Nothing is noteworthy, or surprising, but none of it is ever bad. The Pier doesn't pretend to be anything other than old-fashioned, standard fare with a few "foreign" tastes thrown in for variety. Plus, it's got the best view in town and the service is better than most. The best thing about this place is the bar - you'll sometimes see an eclectic mix of locals, transplants, sailors, and even sweater tying snobs when they feel like mingling with the common-folk. And more importantly, no bartender there has ever given me a bad or watery drink - ever. Eating on Dudley's Deck is also surprisingly reasonable compared to the inflated prices at most all other HS establishments. But, forget the lobster roll. I watched sandwiches get served with nice brioche buns and thick crusty bread all afternoon but my 18 dollar lobster roll came on a grocery store hot dog bun, not an "Inn Baked New England Style roll". Aside from that, you almost have to go here at least once while staying in this town. read more
