We were seated, then waited almost 5 minutes before they brought water to our table. The table next to us was seated after us yet our waiter waited on them and ignored us until we brought the matter to his attention. The bacon, avocado burger was unimpressive. The Pinon Cafe is a great place to stop for some breakfast while in Payson! It's your typical small town cafe with all the hearty breakfast options a person could want! My personal favorite, the breakfast sandwich! Be sure to try it on a biscuit since they make them fresh! Be prepared to wait, as this establishment is right on the main road and is a delight to both small town regulars and those visiting. The parking situation can be tight too - we had to park across the street and walk over. I recommend the Pinon Cafe, the staff is so friendly - you can tell it's family owned and run, they really care about their people and their food and that makes all the difference! Absolutely fantastic! Yep, once more steak, eggs, and potatoes, my classic breakfast choice. I've been loving this combo since I was five, haha. The breakfast experience was top-notch! We stopped here on our way to Winslow. It was time for breakfast, so we pulled in. The place was pretty full, but we were seated immediately. Our order was taken quickly. I ordered a breakfast burrito made with eggs, chorizo, onions, peppers, and cheese. This was packed into a hearty tortilla, not one of those paper thin ones that fall apart before you even start eating. The burrito came with salsa,but no sour cream. It also came with either country fries or hashbrowns. I chose the hashbrowns. My order was out in a reasonable amount of time. The burrito was delicious. The chorizo was flavorful and not too spicy. The hashbrowns were perfect. I was impressed with the service here. My coffee cup never ran dry, and they checked on us several times. If I'm in Payson at breakfast time, I will make it a point of stopping in. read more

The power cakes are fantastic! My husband I had breakfast here once in June while passing through Payson. He had eggs over-easy with sausage, and biscuits and gravy. I had scrambled eggs, sausage, and power cakes (a multigrain pancake with blueberries). Generally I would rate our breakfast a 4 but the Power Cakes make it a 5. In comparison, we have been buying Protein Cakes from US Egg in Tempe (and Chandler, Scottsdale and Phoenix) since the early 1980s. We love Protein Cakes and have looked all over the country/world for similar multigrain pancakes with blueberries. Here at Pinon Cafe the Power Cakes are like Protein Cakes but fluffier and with more blueberries. The Power Cakes are just as good as Protein Cakes, and possibly even better. I really recommend them. When in Payson we will return to this restaurant for breakfast. read more

Pinon has become our go-to spot for breakfast after hiking. They have the best cinnamon rolls, no lie. Huge, soft, hot, fluffy, not overly frosted, and huge. Yeah, it's that big it needs to be said twice. The staff is friendly, although our last visit last Sunday we had a tall male server who was silent and did not come across as wanting to be waiting table. He was not rude, he simply was well, silent and non-communicative. My buddy said her biscuits and gravy were great. I would not, however, recommend the yogurt parfait. Its description reads "Granola topped with yogurt, berries and bananas." The yogurt was thin, the granola was bland, there was a small piece of banana peel on one of my slices, plus I was expecting different types of berries - what I received was wet, soggy (imagine unfrozen) and limp strawberries. Yuck. But the cinnamon. Heavens to Betsy, that cinnamon roll is worth the drive to Payson. read more

Definitely didn't feel trim and fit after having the Trim and Fit Omelette lol! It was a filling omelette, but it's not as light as the name would have you think. Nevertheless, it's a good option for a brunch meal. It comes with two sides, and I really enjoyed the potatoes. They aren't mushy at all, and are salted just right! My fiancé got the Mogollon Monster special, but it sadly did not fill him up (again, misleading name), so he got two hard-boiled eggs and a muffin to finish the meal. The muffin was delicious and warm. I appreciated the sweet service and the nonstop coffee refills. The service was quite slow, though, food took forever to come, and they did that thing where they brought the bill while we were still eating, which severely rubbed me the wrong way. Why do people do that and make you feel like you should rush to pay and leave? The place itself is pretty cute. It's a small-town diner with a low-key country feel.
