Most things have improved over the decade or so that I've been coming here. The happy hour is good. $5.00 drinks. Our table service was decent. The sports are always on. At 9:00pm, the volume goes off so the dance music can begin. Some big event nights are over capacity. It's tough to even use the bathrooms. Too loud to talk. After happy hour comes sad hours, where a bottle of Coors Lite will cost $7.50. During the day, it's old people like me sipping a $5.00 glass wine. Only 2 other couples in the entire place. So I wanted to eat dinner here but it was packed for a pub crawl and the security tells me don't worry, these guys will be out in a few minutes. So we walk around, and the only tables that weren't occupied had reserved signs for certain times and it wasn't during that time so I asked a server if I could sit there and she said no. Ok, if you want to keep these tables free all night and not sure if anyone is going to occupy them over a paying customer, but doesn't quite make sense to me. We waited a few minutes and then I went back to ask the security how much longer until the crowds leave and he says 15-20 minutes. A few minutes isn't the same as half an hour. More people were coming in and they block the entrance to leave so I had to push my way out. Even if the food was excellent, I won't be back. read more

Although, the Pint is one of those generic chain of bars that serve up decent food, beer and hard liquor, I like that this location is close to Whyte, yet off-Whyte. Off-Whyte should be the new "in" for people on the south side. Let's call them beige places (off white, get it?). I can name so many cool beige places that deserve their own category! They have a pretty good collection of drinks. I like the boot-size drinks they have on offer. I'm huge into Caesar cocktails and I love the way they present it here. It's in a boot jug garnished well with celery salt, a stick of celery is dipped in it and so is a tube of pepperoni (or some spicy sausage, not sure). The celery and pepperoni are held together by a toothpick and it all falls into place with a banana pepper squeezed between them. The drink is strong, tasty, spicy, and clamatoey. It's probably the best Caesar's I've had. A special mention to the way they offer their burgers! It's totally cool. There are like six types of burgers and you can have any of them (except for the veggie one, of course) with your choice of patty - buffalo, chicken or prime-rib (probably not patty). I must say though, I really really despise the fries. Come on! What's with this new obsession of battered fries. For those who don't know ..... it's like two slices of potatoes shaped like fries that are dipped in batter and fried. It's certainly not as delicious as actual fries. Perhaps people prefer it - but I don't! I was iffy about how many stars to give them. Unfortunately, disappointing fries are more than a minor setback for me :-D. They have great weekly specials and my favorite is Mondays when they have $4 boots (yes, four bucks for a Caesar!) and $4 off on burgers - another cool thing. Also 4 bucks for Newcastle beer, which is a great price for a foreign beer. Generally, I'd continue to visit this place. I guess I'll avoid the fries in future. Went to watch playoff hockey. Place was very packed. The back of the pub was completely empty but all tables were reserved for times such as 9 and 10 PM. ( we were there around 7). Our sever was fantastic. Took a very long time to get our food due to the kitchen becoming swamped with orders. We starved. Poutine was amazing! Ask for extra gravy though. My husband was craving wings and he remembered that the pint has tons of flavours so for dinner on saturday we headed over to the pint on whyte for wings and drinks. Between the hours of 3-8 it's happy hour and the wings were $9 rather than $14. We ended up going with two of our favourite flavours and a poutine. Some friends and I went for Wing Wednesday, and the wings were very good. I have no issue with the wings; it was the wait time that bugged me. Once we were seated, it took ten minutes to get our drink order. Another ten until the server took our wing order. And it took around twenty minutes for the food to come. The server wasn't great, and it took a while for us to get our bills. I've been to other wing spots and was in and out in half an hour. If you want to wait a while, go to the Pint. If you have places to be after wings and a drink, don't go here. read more

Stopped in with a friend for dinner and drinks on a Monday evening. We sat and waited for 15 minutes and when no one came to our table, my friend went and got menus for us (and for another lady at a table nearby who was also waiting.) The waitress finally came over and informed us their draught was not working. ...What? So...we can't get any pints at THE PINT? Alright, whatever. Boots were on special so we figured why not? Well..because apparently they don't actually put any alcohol in the drinks, that's why not. There was absolutely NO trace of alcohol in our drinks whatsoever. After the first round, my friend ordered a double hi ball because, you know, alcohol is a pretty big reason we go to pubs. No taste of alcohol in the DOUBLE either. When it was mentioned to the waitress, she said the guns were "just calibrated" so there was "no way" our drinks were short poured. Uh-huh. We ordered some appetizers to share: Thai chicken bites, beefshires and poutine. The Thai chicken bites were freezing cold and tasted like something you'd get at one of those Chinese fast food joints in the malls. The Yorkshire puddings were hard and the roast beef was dry as hell, and everything was cold. Not to mention there was little to no gravy on the plate (what is Yorkshire without gravy?!) The poutine was the only edible thing, but even that was cold. The service was pretty bad, especially considering there were MAYBE 8 other tables in the place. There were 2 waitresses, but the one girl just stood at the counter and flipped her hair while she flirted with the bartender. The question "where the hell is our waitress?!?!" was asked at least 4 times. Overall, super disappointing experience. When I go to a pub for dinner, I only expect a few things. 1.) Alright... I've given this place 2 tries now and sadly I can't give it more than two stars. I even discussed with a friend to make sure I wasn't being too harsh. Here's what has kept me on the fence... the food is really good. I don't have a single complaint with the food to be honest. It's the service and general upkeep/atmosphere that has me not wanting to go back. So... let's start with the good... My first try was a Saturday night when we planned a surprise party for a friend at the Pint.. I started off with a Ceasar, then switched to Vodka & Soda for the rest of the night. I loved the ceasar - lots of flavour. For food I kept it simple and ordered a plate of poutine. I was shocked when it came out - it was HUGE! and really tasty. No complaints and definitely got my money's worth. Second visit was on a Thursday evening when I attended a Story Slam as part of the Tales Storytelling Festival. This time I ordered the Bootsicle for my drink, which was described as Vanilla vodka and Lime slush. There was no slush to be found, but was fairly tasty. I ordered chicken fingers with a ceasar salad instead of fries. Everything was very tasty but oddly enough the coleslaw was my favourite part. Now... the not so great parts: on my first visit, the service was pretty awful. Our server was somewhat attentive at the beginning of the evening but seemed to lose interest in us as the night went on. At one point, I asked her for a glass of water and she brought me another vodka instead. I never got my water. On my second visit - we were ignored for an uncomfortable amount of time. Once we finally ordered our drinks, another server came by, apologized for the wait and asked if we wanted drinks. fail. Our server was really sweet and admitted that she was pretty new - but we would have figured it out really quickly if she hadn't told us. Again, she was attentive at first (i mean... after the uncomfortable absence), and then lost interest in us by the end of the night and we had to get another server to take our payments. As much as I love the food, I won't pro-actively go back. The stools are uncomfortable and the service is awful :( read more

Great place if you're looking for somewhere to grab a drink and catch the game. The food is your standard pub grub, but still pretty good. They have a decent beer selection too which I find important for any good watering hole. The steak sandwich was very flavorful and tender. It certainly was better than I would have expected. The biggest plus is that they are a Whyte ave (or off Whyte if you must) that has parking available right across the street. read more

If you are planning on heading here for their "Hangover Brunch", definitely give The Pint a pass. I went to The Pint to watch morning World Cup soccer on the weekend over breakfast, and was terribly disappointed. From the time we arrived, to the time we were served our food was over an hour. The bar was reasonably busy, but our table was surrounded by empty tables. I ordered scrambled eggs and toast, and after 45 minutes with no sign of food, the waitress came over and said that right after we ordered a large group came in and the kitchen was struggling to keep up. Ok, but if they came in after us, why did I wait so long for such a simple dish? I honestly thought that our order got lost, and with the end of the game fast approaching, I was planning on leaving to find breakfast elsewhere when we were done watching. I wouldn't have been so irritated by the wait time if the food had been good, but it wasn't. The eggs were greasy and flavorless, the ham was overcooked, and there were no spreads available for the toast (i.e. jam, peanut butter). The tater tots were terrible, and I just couldn't eat them. I went home and made some decent food for lunch. I'd consider going to The Pint for drinks if someone suggested it, but I won't be returning for food. read more

I couldn't believe how similar this location of The Pint is to the original pub - as a fan of the original Pint on Jasper, I definitely felt right at home when I walked into the Pint on Whyte. I have mostly good - mm, nay, great things to say about this bar. The drinks that come in boots are great, I loved the blackberry mojitos, our server was fantastic and the DJ was super friendly, took all of our requests and played great music the rest of the night. I didn't try the food, but I would assume it's about on par with its twin location, and the location of this pub is both accessible and huge. Even the bathrooms were pretty clean (for a bar). My only complaint lies with the clientele of the pub. While doing the usual "dance with your girlfriends and put your purses in the middle of the dance circle" thing that you know all us girls do, one guy came over and purposely kicked our purses, scattering them across the floor. Other dudes were really aggressive about dancing with us. Just weird. I'm likely to come back, but more likely on a Wednesday night for wings and mojitos than on a Saturday for jerks. read more

We went there today for a quick lunch. I asked for a drink that was on their list of drinks on the table -- not available because they didn't have Chambord. OK ... I asked for a Vodka Paralyzer -- it was OK but the glass was full of ice, and there wasn't much of the pop mixed in it ... by the end of the drink, it was quite watered-down. Then I asked for a decaf tea -- not available. So I asked for dark rum, a pad of butter, a bit of brown sugar, and hot water (ie., a hot rum toddy that I'd assemble myself b/c usually bartenders use a mix which is full of yuck) ... they only had spiced rum. I assume someone there is going shopping soon. The Ukranian soup was OK, but it was heavily salted -- I couldn't finish it. And me, not finishing a meal? Nearly never heard of. My hubby's fries were the best fries I've ever eaten. Ever. I would go back just for the fries. (and likely nothing else) The server didn't know what was in the soup. She didn't think she could keep the ingredients of my second drink in her memory so she had to write it down. She had never served or tried the first drink I ordered. I asked Dave if he thought it was her second day (she seemed mostly competent); he said, "you've got to consider the place we're in. Your requests are like going to McDonald's and trying to order off of the menu." I thought that was pretty funny, but also accurate. So, if you go to the Pint Public House, order beer and fries and don't ask for anything else (even if it's on the menu, as they don't stock Chambord or regular dark rum). read more

While on a house hunting trip to Edmonton this past weekend, we checked out the local scene for some dinner, drinks and dancing. The Pint was along our wandering foot travels, Ben had read about them on-line, so we decided to give them a go. Upon entering, the bouncers were nice ppl. We sat at the bar, where the staff seemed to truly enjoy being there and kidding around. They were pleasant and had a good sense of humour. They were also hanging balloons, streamers and wearing novel hats. We ordered a couple of drinks. I had the caesar, while Ben had beer. I was pleased to find a peperoni stick in my extra spicy ceasar in a boot. For food, we ordered wings (sauce on the side) and deep fried pickles. The wings first arrived a bit undercooked (still pretty pink at the bone). One of the staff noticed right away and took them back. In the mean time the pickles were awesome. When the next batch of wings came out, they were better cooked, but still could have stayed in a bit longer, or perhaps the fryer is not hot enough. We are not fans of soggy or slimy oily wings. They were not the worst we've ever had though, and the sauce was decent. After another drink, and a walk down the street for more exploration, we made our way back to The Pint. We had to find out what the decorations were for. I did find most of the drinks were very sugary, and they seemed to run out of a lot of ingredients through out the night. After a few Cape Cods, our server from earlier noticed we were back, so we asked what was with the decorations. Turned out to be the GM's Bday. He was of good nature and at one point hoisted in the air and carried around the bar. We wished him a Happy Bday when he was helping out behind the bar. He was nice enough to give us each a drink on the house. The music was from the 90s to today remixed and mashed up. This place looked like a pub, but acted like a club. The patrons were all friendly, I didn't see a single fight and random ppl would buy rounds of "Bert Renolds". I've learned this is spiced rum with butter ripple schnapps, neither of which I am a fan of. We still had to partake in paying forward the kind gesture. There was some good and some less than good, but I think the positives have outweighed the other aspects. Overall, I enjoyed our time(s) here and would go back once we move to Edmonton next month. - - I'm looking forward to this move. read more

Came here with some friends for some bevies before a night of dancing. We were fortunate enough to have a reservation (don't know how we managed that on a Saturday night...) so we had no problem finding a table in this very busy Whyte Ave establishment! This place has come a long way since it's days as the very daunting Purple Onion! It's cleaned itself up and now attracting a much different crowd! We were almost immediately greeted by our obviously very busy server. By the looks of it I'm almost certain she had the entire back of the place. A lot to take on! The place was very busy with lots of people on what seemed like bachelorette/bachelor party pub crawls. Bustling with loud music and happily inebriated people! The service was as quick as it could be considering our very busy waitress. She was always apologetic for things taking a long time. Not a big deal, we can see its busy and it's not like she was standing around! While The Pint isn't really my scene, maybe it's the flash backs from it being The Purple Onion *shudders*. It is a fun place to have drinks with friends! We weren't here for food so I cannot comment on that. Maybe one day I will stop in for a bite to eat! read more

Waitress didn'tgive a flying f cause she is actually a teacher(but don't know how that possible cause she couldn't do simple math) She asked my friend if he wanted change for 20 on 18 dollar bill (17.80) he said yes! went to the bar huffed put her head in her hands and brought back a buck fifty. First if you are a waitress don't ever ask the customer if he wants change bring him the change and let him decide what your tip will be. Maybe he needed that change and was going to give you a five (he wasn't cause you lied to him multiple times about food then tried ignoring all of us until our food was ready! A sweet hour and 45 with no drinks, fun times ) if the food was going to take long just tell us!! But it gets better. Some of our party wanted to leave early and she legit said "k I can't keep track of your drinks so what did you have? they all picked what they remember" so a party of 12 dwindles to 5 and I'm paying for my drinks and then she tells me there is still 4 beers on the tab (I had zero beers, all vodka) I so should have told her that it's her fucking job to know who those belong to and that she should pay for them but I'm tipsy and just split them with my friend (he pays cash I pay visa) She has the audacity to fucking pocket his change until I made her give it to me. He had already tipped her on his actual bill not the extras. I honestly want the manager to contact me because she needs training and something needs to be done regarding this. I don't come for cheap drinks and wings to pay for four Lucky's I didn't even touch. I wish I was sober. I would have not been taken advantage of. At 7 o'clock on a Thursday we walked into this location, there were about 5 tables that had people at them and every other table was unoccupied but had reservations notices (for 1-2 hours later) that made the table unusable. I can understand taking reservations, but to the point that every table is reserved but unused and so that you can't possibly walk in and get a table (or even wait to get a table) is ridiculous. It's essentially standard. Like the fact that it's a block off Whyte. This means that there is almost always room inside. No lineups! The beer selection is very commercial, so don't expect craft. Also they didn't have two things on tap from an already limited beer selection. The food doesn't look very appetizing at all. I would not order here unless I am starving. I will say that we had an excellent service. I felt the waitress, who was as cute as a button, went above and beyond. Constantly checking up on us, helping us distribute tea to a member of our party and overall having a great attitude. She's the reason I've bumped this rating up from a two star. Good help is hard to find, glad to know it's still possible. This is a place where I go because it's practical. The downtown one is much better in my opinion. read more

I wanted to give it 3 stars because of my previous good experiences here but I ended up choosing 2 because I had such a bad recent experience. (I normally just come on Wednesdays for wings) Let's talk my most recent experience. Came here with my bf and his coworkers at around 11:30pm and we were seated. Waited super long for our orders to be placed and super long for our orders to come. The waitresses didn't look busy at all and were all at the bar either on their phones or talking to each other. When our wings came, the waitress couldn't tell us which flavour was which so we had to guess. We were also not given the bucket for bones or wet wipes. Our drinks were never refilled and nobody came to ask us how the food was. We had to wave down the waitress a couple times for her to bring us our bill. We felt neglected the whole time we were there and none of the staff looked busy. We just tried to eat as fast as we could so we could just leave, it was terrible. This is the absolute worse experience I've ever had here and they're normally much better and give better service even on a busy wing night. Don't come here later at night and expect service because you won't get it read more

My group of friends and I only attend the pint for wing Wednesday's so take that into account when you read this review: Originally I would've given the pint a 2-star review because of the cruel and unpleasant attitudes of the servers on busy nights, but one man behind the bar has truly changed this all. I, unfortunately, can't remember his name but he can be found at the back bar keeping everyone happy. I have found most people stay from sitting at bars but I highly recommended it after my last few experiences here. It's the best possible service from the nicest, most upbeat guy who will always will refill your drinks and keep a smile on your face while maintaining the best possible service. I can also say if you're ever unsure what to drink ask him to make you something! He's mixed me up a drink or two and I haven't had one complaint yet! It's a nice surprise and makes me feel special that I wasn't just another customer getting something off the menu. While I wouldn't normally head to a pub for dinner, my husband and I did just that this last Thursday. Maybe I wanted to feel 20 again?! We sat down and were greeted by $4 pints of Guinness. Why hello there! Next up I ordered the appetizer of four of Nathan's tiny little hot dogs and shrimp wraps. The hot dogs were great! What I wanted and needed at this pub experience. They were served in tiny pretzel buns with cheese and onions, chili and mustard were on the side as well. Tasty! And filling! The shrimp rolls...bad idea. Don't get them...limp lettuce, coleslaw from a bag (yeah,yeah I know I just raved about hot dog) and yucky noodles. Don't get this dish. Get wings or something. The hockey game was on. It all felt like I really was 20 again for an hour or so but I was pretty happy to be back home drinking my craft beer later that night... read more

Drove by this place dozens of times, was out with a friend who lived near it who also at never been. He suggested why not give it a shot. We walked in and sat at our table. Waitress was fairly prompt coming to our table. This was a Tuesday night around 9pm so it wasn't too busy. I ordered a Coke (driving) and he ordered a beer. It was delivered to our table in only a couple of minutes. They had a special on their tacos (3 for $6) so we each got a plate of those as well as split a plate of mini hot dogs. I ordered a fish, pulled pork, and beef taco. I tried the fish one first. HOLY SHIT. The fish was delicious but wow was the salsa/peppers on it were spicy. I don't mind some heat but they packed a punch. The other two were the same. The meat was perfectly seasoned but the salsa was too powerful. That's not necessarily a bad thing, I took them home and my finacee really enjoyed them. The hot dogs were amazing. They were piled with bacon, cheese, and grilled onions. I will definitely be having those again. The prices were very reasonable. Two plates of tacos, the hot dogs (plate of 4), 2 pops and a beer came to right around $30. Definitely will be going here in the future. I see this place being packed on game nights. Side note: They were starting Karaoke near the end of our meal. It started VERY slowly, but I have to give props to the promoter as he really tried to go all out and get people up. As Duchess of the Pint downtown, I felt it was my duty to visit the kingdom across the river. The Pint off Whyte looks exactly like the Pint downtown. It serves exactly the same menu and plays exactly the same music, but this is all probably the intention. You expect the The service was good (dare I say even better than that in my own kingdom?) and the venue was huuuuge. Don't be deceived when you walk in the door: if you head to the back, the place practically doubles in size. Tables are easy to get and the dance floor is waiting for you. The main drawback to this place is the bathrooms are downstairs, which can be precarious for you, but hilarious if you watch drunk girls in super high-heels gingerly wobble down the steps. I feel like the Pint should issue a waiver at the door so they're not responsible for broken legs incurred from drunk spills (of people, not drinks) down the stairs. read more

I had a less than ideal experience at this location of The Pint. I came in with my baseball team, and we all ordered a few drinks and some wings. Service was slow, which was fine, since it was quite busy. However, our server did not tell us that boneless wings are regular price on Wednesday, contrary to what the menu suggests. When it came time to settle up, our server dropped the bill for 10 people on the table and told us tip was included. We weren't told about this policy, and it's certainly not on the menu. We decided to go settle up our portion, and ask about the boneless wing price. This is where the experience went from not great to bad. At the bar, we told our server that the 18% gratuity is not mentioned anywhere, and that we weren't told about the boneless wings. Our server told us it was policy, and offered to get a manager. Then she told us that if we "were going to get pissy about it," she would just do it. She then called me rude. I returned to the table to collect my belongings. She brought a revised version of the bill for the remaining 8 people. When she returned 5 minutes later, she did apologize. I appreciate that serving at a busy bar is stressful. As someone who spent years in retail, I understand that policy is not always malleable. However, my boyfriend and I were being very civil, and only asking about where the "policy" is stated, and pointing out what we believed to be a discrepancy in the bill. I always here advertising for The Pint on the radio. You'd think they would be a little more on the ball with the atmosphere and service. I came to this location for a Paint Nite with my friend. Walking in here, all you get is a smell of stale beer. It's really not pleasant. We were relatively early so we decided to have a seat and wait. We were approached about 3 times by 3 different people, asking if we were with Paint Nite, and if we wanted anything. We declined, saying we were going to wait until a bit later. (There was a dedicated server in the area where the Paint Nite was happening, but because there were so many people, it was almost like there was no one there at all). Our event was in a back, secluded room away from the main part of the bar. It was rather chilly, but fine as more people arrived. There was also a hockey game on, so we sat as far away from the door as possible, as we didn't want to be distracted. I had a caesar, my friend had a beer. It was alright. We didn't order food, as we really wanted to leave and go somewhere else that felt more inviting and a little more upscale. I guess The Pint is what it is... Your regular run-of-the-mill pub. I'd rather go elsewhere. read more
