Came to Rochester from Hawaii for the first time and was hungry so saw this pizza place. Best decision ever. First ordered two slices of pizza for my wife and I but after taking a bite of it, we called our friends to eat with us and ended up ordering a large pepperoni pizza. It was the best pizza my wife and I had for quite some time. The shop is simple, the cooks were nice when you spoke to them and the cashier was pleasant. Nothing fancy but who needs fancy when the food is great and that's how this pizza tasted! Wish we were staying longer as we would definitely have come again. We decided to explore the pizza stop on a chilly Saturday! We went for dinner and it was pretty empty! The decor definitely resembles the Brooklyn/nyc vibe! The man at the counter was very kind to us and told us some customer favorites! They close early for a weekend-around 8 and he said that was because most of their business happens during the week! Got stuck downtown waiting for a ride, and decided to try this place out. The guy in front of me got a HUGE ass slice of pizza. I got excited. Then I was given a much smaller slice. Whatevs. I had a buffalo chicken slice. With. Can of soda, it came to $4.50. The pizza was think crust, deff NYC-style. Although the slice I had was smaller than some of the other joints I frequent around town, the taste was actually superb. It was up there in the deliciousness scales! I usually don't get buffalo chicken pizza because most places make it too spicy by adding buffalo sauce onto the pizza, but Pizza Stop did it right. We ordered three medium pizzas last minute during the end of a busy lunch rush, and Pizza Stop did a great job. Three pizzas run a little pricey, but they were done and ready in 25 minutes and were delicious. Would highly recommend their specialty pizzas, especially the garlic, mushroom, and broccoli pizza (make sure to have gum or a mint handy). You will have to go pick up the pizzas at lunch because they only deliver in walking distance, and parking isn't ample. Best pizza in Downtown...or even Rochester! Seriously, these guys hold no punches when it comes to having pies ready for the crowd. It is one of the blessing of working in Center City. Taking a nice stroll across the Genny and making my happy way to The Pizza Stop for the most scrumptious NY style pizza. All I can say is that the lines move fast AND warn you all to NOT be on your stupid phones when in line. It pisses people off and you will not be served. In all seriousness, they have a sign. Think of it like the soup nazi...but you know, better dubbed pizza nazi. They have a number of pies to choose slices from to be finished off in the oven. Only takes about 2 minutes or so. I always get the bacon and pepperoni slice because it is simply too delishiz to quit. I have ventured to other types as whatever includes mushrooms, stuffed buffalo chicken and whatever includes spinach. All...great...SLICES OF HEAVEN! The garlic knots do not take a back seat...neither do the cinnamon knots. On top of all this greatness, you can grab a brewski now that they have their license to sell beer. I write this while I eat my amazing slices of pizza. I ordered a cheese and white garlic. Both were very good. Nice thin and crispy crust. Good deal for the 2 slices and a Snapple. $7 and some change. Not bad for a good slice of pie. They had a stuffed buffalo chicken slice which looked really good but it wasn't ready yet. Service was friendly enough but quick which I like on my lunch break. Stop in and enjoy some good pizza. I just have to ask if the holes we're in the plaster before and you decided to paint around them and do really cool art work. Or did you make the holes and do the said really cool art work. FINALLY I get here... But glad I did. Here we go.. I usually judge a place on the cheese pizza. I got cheese for one slice and pepperoni and sausage for the other. Just DAYUM! They were good.. Parking on street and you gotta pay for it...They do deliver but only in the immediate area. No joking around if your on the phone they will not take your order! On NPR's Connections program, the owner promoted his pizza as a true New York style pizza with the dough and the sauce as what makes his pizza special. Today, I picked up a large pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms, and a large Buffalo Chicken. I must admit I was disappointed a bit. Those pizzas were much better than your average pizzas around Rochester, but not as good as the hype. The crust was not as thin as one would expect. Their mushrooms topping was pretty good, but their pepperoni and Buffalo chicken were not special. The ordering process (for pick up) was pretty straight forward. Their prices were okay. I didn't get any attitude and there was no line as expressed in other reviews. There is a better New York style pizza in the area. read more

Some aspects of the pizza seemed promising, overall doesn't live up to hype. I agree with other commenters that the ingredient quality, crust texture, etc are quite good. But... That said, I have two major complaints: (1) the premade slices just taste stale, and (2) it's appallingly salty. As for (1), I get that slices are inherently premade and are gonna age a bit, but if people are coming in not in a hurry and ask whether to get slices or a whole pie, you shouldn't direct them to an inferior product. As for (2), the stuff isn't just normal salty; I kept drinking water for hours afterwards and still felt kinda dehydrated. Maybe I just have the wrong expectations---I'm not too familiar with proper NYC pizza, so maybe that's just what it is. read more

This review will be extraordinarily short and straight to the point. The Pizza Stop is authentic New York City, thin crust pizza that is baked to perfection. They are on State Street at Andrews Street in downtown Rochester and they always have slices to eat in the parlor or you can put some wheels on it and roll it right out the door. This is the best PIZZA shop in PITTSFORD! Yes the slices are huge, thin crust and Absolutely delicious. The shop is awesome with the Statue of Liberty murel and Brooklyn Bridge, NYC subway. You have to be born in NYC to appreciate this pizza parlor. The staff Always friendly and they make u feel at home. Tables are clean, great parking!!! This has to be the greatest pizza I've ever had. This location is right around the corner from my office so I always stop in during my lunch break. They are always nice, quick, and the food is delicious. There are probably two dozen different types of pizza to chose from along with extra baked goods. My favorite things to get are the garlic knots and a slice of the stuffed buffalo chicken pizza. It's on my list to try the dessert knots. The environment is always busy but it isn't overly loud or crowded. Sometimes the line does begin outside so prepare for the elements. Its worth it for this pizza though. read more

Heard about Pizza Stop from a friend as I've been transferred downtown. Ordered a large thin crust with sausage & onion to bring home after work. Absolutely delicious! To summarize- while the pizza is good, the service and delivery are terrible. I called on a Monday to have pizzas delivered for Friday. I needed them there at a specific time because of work constraints governing people's available lunch times. I emphasized with the man on the phone that I need them there by noon, he assured me it was no problem. Friday comes, and I call at 11AM to check that everything was moving smoothly and the pizzas would be there on time. I was told they would be. I waited, and waited and at 12:10PM I tried to call, busy signal. 12:15PM, busy signal, finally at 12:20PM they contacted me to say they were running late and would try to get there when they could. I was so upset by then that I just canceled the order. Half the people that were in on the pizza had to leave by 12:30PM so there was no point. This is not cheap pizza either, so I was not about to spend that much money for a product that was not only not on time, but that they could not give me the courtesy to tell me beforehand that they could not meet the deadline set. I feel I did everything I could to ensure the order would be on time and I feel extremely let down. Moral of the story, do not order delivery from Pizza Stop. read more

I don't know what else can be said about this place that hasn't been said already; probably the best quick lunch spot in the downtown business area. I've only been there a handful of times, but every time I make sure to order the stuffed pizza special. It's EXTREMELY filling, and a bargain at around $3.50/slice or so. You know it's a popular place when the line stretches out the door during lunch hour. I knock it down a star only because of its popularity; if you don't get there by 11:30 or after 1:30 on a day with decent weather, be prepared to wait in line for at least 5-10 minutes. I want to give it a 5 star rating. I really do. But let me start off by saying that this pizza is AMAZING. By far my favorite in the Rochester area (that alone deserves a 5 star rating right? Ha wait.) The place is always packed with people, which it should be... I mean their pizza taste so good. Very New York style. But that's not my reason for knocking down a star. After all, that's not their fault. The reason I give it a 4 out of five is because of the staff. Holy crap some of the staff are so rude. Do they need New York city attitude to make New York City pizza? Everytime I walk in there I get a look like I did somthing wrong. They've gotten a new guy he's really nice. But ya know..? Im a costumer. I don't want to feel not welcomed. I'll change it back to five stars if I start to feel more welcomed in their pizza establishment in the future. This awesome hole in the wall lived up to its expectations. They moved from their next door location i assume because it was bigger? anyway, the pizza was amazing if you like flat bread. the garlic knots were to die for. and the art/ recognition on the walls were nice. i like how they didn't make it really look like a hole in the wall. it was clean enough and reminded me of a pizzeria i went to in NYC! enough pizza's to choose from, so i had a hard time deciding but the price was decent enough where you don't feel guilty to get more than two. be careful though because the slices are huge! i was so full after two. next time i want pizza and i'm downtown i will definitely go here again! However we were in webster and wanted pizza so we decided to drive to this location. I am in love with the pizza here. I decided to try it out because it has such great reviews on yelp and now I can't stop talking about it to my husband. The line was super long but it went by quickly. You should certainly know what you want from here and not wait to make you decision until it is your turn to order. Keep the line moving - It is pizza how hard of a decision is it to make what kind you want? I got a sausage and pepperoni slice with a garlic knot. It was all so amazing. The garlic knot was light and fluffy and had the perfect amount of garlic so I didn't have super overpowering garlic breath for the rest of the afternoon. The pizza was so good I felt like it was melting in my mouth. I am a very fast eater but I found myself slowing down so I could savior every single bite of the pizza and make it last as long as possible. For my garlic knot, slice, and a can of soda I paid under $5.00. That is a fantastic price and helps you feel like you really ate out for lunch without the price that goes along with it. If you are talking on your cell phone you will not be served and I am incredibly happy about that, I wish more places would follow suit. I feel like with so much technology literally at our fingertips people forget to put their phones down and just be a human and experience something. It is rude to others that you literally can't wait 5 minutes and have a human to human encounter to order pizza - I swear your friends can wait for you to order pizza and honestly once you take a bite of this pizza, you will forget you even have friends. When I think about the best pizza that I have ever tasted, this is the first establishment that comes to mind. I like my pizza a certain type of way where the grease levels are low but the cheese level is high. I really didn't believe that any such pizza joint would have that certain taste that I was looking for but this is still the only pizzeria that satisfies my needs, despite the long drive from where I live. I used to visit their old location frequently but have only been to the new location once and I can say it's a drastic improvement over the previous area. Not only is the store much more open and airy, it's very clean which is near hard to find for a pizza place. On the downside, when you walk inside, most of the time you will be faced with a long line depending on which time of day you go but the line does start to move by rather quickly so it isn't that much of a long wait but it does give you time to think of what you want to order as their are so many options to choose from. I don't stray far from the classic cheese or pepperoni pizza so that is usually what I go for when I order it out to bring it home to the family. In my own opinion, this is a true example of a New York Style pizza. The cheese to sauce ratio was near spot on at all accounts, the crust was not crunchy but not overly fluffy, and each bite kept the cheese on the pizza instead of falling off into a greasy mess. You can choose what size of pizza you want but I always get a large and usually have two to three slices before I call it quits...If I can that is! Once you start eating, it can be very hard to not grab another slice when you are finished so unless your feeding a crowd, stick to ordering one or two slices. In addition to pizza, I also order the garlic knots on the side for everyone else but me. These are fantastic little artery cloggers that make a great addition to Pizza Stop's already spectacular pizza but I can't really eat these anymore as it's just a bit too much garlic for my taste but It doesn't stop me from still sneaking one every now and then when my stomach calls for it. I can probably say that not everyone in Rochester has tried out Pizza Stop which is a painful thing to say considering this is certainly the best pizzeria in Rochester...in my own opinion that is. There have an endless supply of pizza's you can try from which span from the classic red to tasty white and the topping selection is superb. I do my best to visit here whenever I can and it is well worth the fifteen minute drive and gas to return home with pizza that makes me forget about all my troubles. If you still have yet to experience the awesome that is Pizza Stop, I highly encourage you to check it as early as possible when they are not that busy.
