I've somewhat grown used to poor service since Covid and I was not disappointed. Here's a timeline. Enter restaurant with reservations, sat immediately. Nice but all downhill from there. +5 minutes given menus, + 15 drink orders taken, + 25 two of four drinks show up + 30 appetizers ordered + 35 we inquire about other two drinks + 40 remaining drinks show up and salads and meals ordered. + 50 appetizers make it to table +52 salads delivered and we rearrange table so we can finish our appetizers and immediately start on salads + 55 two meals show up and we haven't started our salads +60 final two meals show up. We had heard lots of good things about The Little Italian Place. Actually had their pizza at the connected bar, Rudy's, on a different weekend when we were out listening to live music. We decided to have dinner there for my birthday on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024. We made a reservation for 6 pm and showed up at 5:50 pm at which time we were immediately seated. The dining room was only half full but as time progressed you could tell how popular this place is. There was only three of us and we brought our own wine since it was a special occasion. The waitress took our order and opened our wine and then we just sat. We sat for more than an hour until we received our appetizers. The waitress claimed that right when our orders were put in that someone had taken a break and that is why it took so long. She apologized and told us that we were going to get a discount because of the kitchen. Our biggest fear at that time was hoping that our main courses don't arrive right on top of our appetizers. They didn't. The main courses came out afterwards, not too soon, but afterwards. After the main courses we ordered 2 desserts. The food is awesome. The Place is popular simply because of the quality of what they serve. At this particular visit, the service is what nearly ruined a birthday dinner. As info, I've been in the restaurant business. As a young adult I worked my way up from dishwasher to pantry and then on to dinner chef. My Mother and her partner owned a different restaurant and I worked for them as well. I fully respect restaurants and staff since I'm very familiar with what it's like to feed the public and hear complaints. At the same time, I also expect a fully engaged waitress/waiter. We waited for our bill another 15 minutes longer after our waitress said she would bring it to us, At this point our waitress wouldn't even look us in the eyes which actually made us more uncomfortable. Not once did we act annoyed in front of the other customers. We just kept smiling and hoping our food was on it's way even though 3 other tables arrived after us and finished before us while we waited for our dessert. We didn't make a scene nor did we leave without leaving a tip. In fact, after working as cook myself, I don't believe in waitresses/waiters blaming anything on the kitchen directly to the customer. They should always work as a team and support each other. If somebody did something wrong, that discussion should be internal. Lastly, we did receive a 20% "Friends & Family" discount for our inconvenience. I also didn't tell our server that it was my birthday since that shouldn't matter. I want to state this again. The food is awesome. I would give them 5 stars for food if I could separate the ranking for food vs service. We wrapped up, paid the bill and left the restaurant 2 hrs and 15 minutes after arriving. 2 appetizers, 3 main dishes and 2 desserts. read more

We've eaten at this place a couple years ago and the waitress was nice and the food was good it just took too long. I recently found out their was new owners so I wanted to try it again and we went to celebrate a family members birthday, I made a reservation and we were sat at reservation time, it was a Saturday night so I expected it to be busy but wasn't too bad, took the waitress 20 minutes after we were sat to get our waters then we ordered drinks and an appetizer, the appetizer came out before the soft drinks were brought to the table. We ordered food at that time and it took an hour and 5 minutes to get our food. Everyone else who showed up after us got their food before us. I had to ask about how much longer and she walked to the kitchen to see and came back out with our food, it was frustrating because now I know our food was just sitting there. Half our meals were cold and you could see from the look of the sauce it had been sitting there for a while. The chicken that we added onto our dinners was dry as a bone and the "10 layer lasagna" is literally just 10 layers of noodles on top of each other with barely anything in between. There was two orders of fettuccine alfredo with chicken and one was significantly smaller than the other one so we assumed it was a kids plate as one who ordered it was a child, turns out they don't do kids fettuccine alfredo which is fine but for $26 for a small portion of that is ridiculous. A Caesar salad we ordered was $14 and it was small and had been sitting under the heat lamp. Our bill was $300 and it felt like a total waste of money. I'm super disappointed as I was trying to show my family a new place for dinner, that was definitely our last time there for all of us. read more

Stopped for a bite after swimming at the happy valley swimming hole. Split a salad, and a chicken sandwich. Buttered, toasted panini, smoky chicken and cheese with arugula and other fixins. So good. She had a sauv blanc I think, I had a lemon water. Even the salad was fresh and memorable. And, I mean...it's a salad. And I remember it. That's saying something. We were wet and had the dogs, so we sat out on their little patio...purse hooks every few feet under the railing, led lights and patio umbrellas with cafe lights make me think this'd be a nice spot for a drink at night as well. I have now been to this little Italian Place three times. It's become one of the must hit stops when visiting my mom, and our favorite dinner spot in the area. The restaurant is warm and inviting, with the amazing aroma that only a true Italian place has. Or server welcomed us, brought us fresh bread with olive oil and balsamic right away, and always made sure our drinks didn't run dry. The wood fired pizzas and calzones are always a great choice, and all the pasta dishes I've tried have never disappointed. On our recent visit, mom had the raviolis and decided they were her new favorite. I chose to have a Caesar Salad with grilled chicken breast and a Mikey's meatballs in marinara as a side dish. They were both excellent and together were more than I could finish. We will be back again on my next visit for sure! read more

Sadly this place was so incredibly underwhelming, I can't give it more than one star! We walked in, about three people looked up at us as soon as walked in but nobody acknowledged us for at least 5 minutes..that was fine but ended up being the first thing that rubbed us the wrong way. The server was great, very nice and attentive, he belongs in a better restaurant for sure. I ordered the ravioli and one of the 6 ravioli was empty...the ravioli ended up costing a dollar less than my husband's giant plate of chicken Parmesan..I don't think my cheese ravioli was worth $6 a piece. The sauce tasted like it was from a jar and nothing too great at all, didn't taste like they make it fresh at all, the "focaccia" bread was not at all focaccia bread, it was just cold regular bread, not even warmed up or toasted at all. My husband ordered a $7 lemonade and it tasted rotten-actually tasted like they used a rotten lemon and it was terrible. We ended up throwing our leftovers away and not drinking the lemonade. $70 and we could have gotten better food at olive garden for the same price and I am not a fan of Olive Garden! The restaurant has a nice vibe and like I said, the waiter was great but definitely belongs in a better restaurant! I tried this place a while back and my margarita pizza was very bland, no fresh basil, just pesto on top...I thought we'd give them another try but we will definitely not be returning again after this trip! read more

Somewhat loud atmosphere, but clean and new. The food was really good. I had the wild mushroom risotto, and it was totally decadent! *UPDATE* This was once our favorite place to eat in the placerville area. We have taken many groups of people here for dinner and recommended it to even more. But ever since they moved to the new location it has become less and less pleasant. It's now very difficult to find parking, it's always crowded and noisy. The building echoes everybody's conversations, plus they play the music too loud. They also don't keep the temperature very comfortable in the building and the staff is no longer friendly. The food is still amazing that's why they still get two stars instead of one. Since we still like their food we decided to start getting our orders to go. It just so happens that this month is my wife's birthday and this restaurant sent her a birthday coupon for a free pizza. So we called to order two pizzas and a salad. My wife mentioned the coupon and they refused to honor it because we were picking up the pizza. They said that was dine in only and proceeded to treat her like she was trying to pull some sort of scam on them. $25 isn't going to break us it's just the principle of the thing. We have spent thousands of dollars at this restaurant over the last 4 years. We went out of our way to eat there as often as possible during the pandemic to support them and make sure that they didn't go out of business. I am very disappointed in the new management and the poor treatment they showed my wife. If you don't want to give out birthday coupons, then don't give them out. If you want people to dine in, make the experience more comfortable. read more

This is a true hidden gem. My wife and I love Italian food but most of the time it's bland, generic, unoriginal. This goes for restaurants in SF, Sacramento, and even on the rarest of occasion Italy itself. This place is not one of those places. Their caprese is fantastic, pizza was great. The only issue is they seem to run out of food on busy nights (we were told this past Valentine's was the busiest ever for this restaurant). I guess it's hard to predict how busy you'll be considering the location but I'd imagine if the food stays this good, it'll stay busy! read more

We were so excited to go to the new location of the Little Italian Place. We loved the old place and the food was always really good. Boy were we disappointed! The place has no charm like the old place. It may have been small, but it was warm and cozy and inviting. Now it's cold and tacky and so noisy, like, as someone else mentioned, a cafeteria. The tile floors were a really bad choice. They changed the bruschetta for some strange reason, which was a HUGE disappointment. The old one was stellar. Why change perfection? The food was decent not great. The server was very nice. To be honest, we probably won't be coming back. It's lost all of its charm. So very disappointed. First ever visit here and I've been watching it since they first opened at their original location. Probably won't be back. Got in around 7:00, was immediately seated but then had to wait for a bit before a server came over. Ordered noodles with marinara for my daughter and the braised pork over polenta for me. I was told they were super busy and food was taking a bit longer to come out. Boy was that an understatement! About 20-30 mins later, I ordered a plate to go for my husband at home since our food was taking so long figuring by the time we got our food and ate, his would be ready. Another 30 minutes goes by and still no food! Finally around 8:20pm we got our food! Over an hour of waiting! For noodles and pre-braised pork! All they had to do was boil noodles for 4-6 minutes and heat mine up! Then my braised pork was cold! And my husband's food came out a minute after ours. Almost like they waited to serve our food to eat there until the to-go food was ready! At least that was hot for my husband, even after a 15 minute drive home! My partner and I walked in without reservations and we were told, "We're in our soft opening and we're only taking parties with reservations. We'll be accepting walk-ins starting Wednesday." The website clearly states that no reservations are required (screenshot attached). Other restaurants with soft openings clearly state on their Yelp page and/or website that they're in their soft opening phase and you need to make a reservation. We're not unreasonable people here. Furthermore, if they're in their soft opening, why are there Yelp reviews dating back to 2017? Are they fake or have they been in their soft opening for the last 4 years, which sounds pretty ridiculous for any business. And there was no banner we could see in the front of the restaurant stating that they're in their soft opening. Clearly something is amiss. Since there is mounting evidence stating the contrary to what we were told, it leads us think that we weren't welcome either because we wore our masks and no one else we saw there was masked or we were lied to and they didn't want our business since there were open tables when we arrived. This restaurant wasted our time and gas as it was a trek driving through the mountains to get there. It's nowhere close to downtown Placerville or Apple Hill. You be the judge because, remember, time is more valuable than money. read more

We've been there before and the food has been good. We were rather disappointed tonight. My son's Minestrone soup was so loaded with garlic, you couldn't taste anything else. Another dish, the pork and polenta was so swimming in liquid, the polenta had no texture. It was more like a soup. The Bloody Mary had chunks of tomato in it making it difficult to drink thru the straw. I order a glass of wine, which was gone half way thru the meal. Had someone checked on us I would have ordered another. We were never asked if we wanted desert. In general, disappointing. read more

The wife and I took our 9 month daughter on a Saturday for lunch. We sat down at 1 pm our waitress was polite and we placed our order within 5 minutes of being seated. By 2:15 our pizza was not even in the empty oven yet and only 5 tables were occupied. Finally By 2:28 our food was served. Monsta pizza and spinach manicotti. Nearly an hour and a half wait and the restaurant was not near full. We will NEVER EVER patronize this establishment again. Truthfully o would have been happier with taco bell and that is saying something. We've been coming this place for years. Unfortunately, since the move service has changed. The food takes FOREVER! Service is slow. When waiting tables, put a little step in your pep! I hate to give 3 stars. Some suggestions, since you deliver water to every table, have a water server. They can also retrieve plates when a tables are finished. When food is ready to be served, have any server available deliver it. Not just the dedicated server. Add some additional beer & white wine selections. Our server had five tables. If you're like me, all you need to know is that they charge a surprise 5% "BOH" fee when they hand you the bill. If that doesn't turn you off immediately, there's more. Food was tasty and our server was very friendly... that's about the extent of the positives. The food was fairly pricy which was fine but a large portion of the options don't come with meat and instead come with "chef suggests adding this meat" but adding that meat adds $6 to the price which is already around $18. They warned us that the kitchen staff was short that night so we expected a long wait (1 hr and 45 minutes in our case). What we didn't expect was asking for more bread twice and never receiving any bread after the first portion (we also didn't get the first portion for a solid 30 minutes). That took it from 5 to 4 stars. We also didn't anticipate being told we would receive more water but not actually receiving more water. The food portions were ok but for the price, I expected to be full but I was not (I only weigh 145 lbs). Between a lack of refills and unsatisfying portions, there goes another star. We also didn't expect a 5% fee for "BOH" which we had to Google to find out was Back Of House. Basically a mandatory tip for the kitchen staff instead of just charging appropriate prices for menu items. Any and all remaining stars... gone. Even if everything else was perfect and 5 star status, this would take it down to one. I will never recommend a restaurant that charges surprise fees on the bill. I don't even understand how it's legal. read more

This restaurant is such a little gem, nestled in the mountain of Placerville. Their pizza and pasta dishes are my favorite and the food is always consistent. Start off by saying couldn't tell yea how the food is because ours did not come to us. Ordered the Lasagna at about 5:15 which according to the menu it's served on Friday and Saturday nights starting at 5:00. Ok so after about a half hour the waitress comes back to let me know they have no lasagna. So I order meatballs and another ice tea and my friend had already ordered chicken Alfredo. After a long period of time my friend decided to go get us drinks because service was really slow!! It was so slow that we were there for over 2 hours and we got a total of 2 drinks and that was it in the over 2 hours we were there!! We ended up walking out to most likely never return.
