Rude and highly unprofessional. Showed up cussing, moaning and in an argumentative mood. Failed to clear a simple pipe then proceeded to argue when told where the overflow was coming out. He cut the drain pipe then stormed off without reparing it. Refused to put a coupler on the pipe he left cut then dared me to sue him. Badmouthed and racially berated the last name of the homeowner. The second time around, not upset it took two days, not upset it leaked, but what I was upset about was two things, one I am forbidden to mention as my source does not want this story to be told, but it solidified I hired the wrong human. The second issue which I can recount, is the cost was 856.84 thereabout for one faucet and the plumbing under the two cast iron sinks. Once you go past a certain price, you legally have to have a contractors license, and the scalping was over the legal limit. I read with great interest that the DA is closing in on unlicensed renegades over charging. I am sad to report this. As many one stars I give, I never like doing it, but at times it has to be done. Just moving into Lompico on Saturday and all drains were plugged. The HoneyBucket Man said we were at least a year away from needing that so try snaking it. I called 18 different plumbers in the area in the first 2 hours of the day 0800-1000 (90% claimed to be open Saturday, Emergency or 24 hour service). Only one answered the phone - but I would assume they would be busy so didn't pay any attention to that at first. The one that answered said "yes we have 24 hour and emergency service what do you need?" When I said we need to have my line snaked he said he needed to check the technician schedule. After tapping on a keyboard for a few seconds he says, "Sorry my technicians are all on a commercial project for the next 2 weeks!" What the ?!?! How can you offer emergency 14 day service? Didn't offer any suggestions or referrals. Next call was to "The Plumber"! I left a message and within about 15 minutes Jim called back and said he would come this afternoon - "not sure what time but I'll be there today." He called and said he'd finished up and would be here within the hour. He was!!! He knocked it out and price was reasonable enough for weekend emergency service. Friday afternoon found a leak on a pvc piece connected to the meter. SLV water stated it was beyond the meter so they would not do anything but shut the water off and supply well wishes. I always try to hire the local person to support our community so I looked at yelp for recommendations. I called The Plumber who is based in Boulder Creek. James came out and dug out and repaired the section that was leaking. He charged a very reasonable rate for a weekend/after hours call. He will warranty the repair for six months. My family had the worst service I have ever witnessed. Professionalism, respect, and understanding was completely absent. When my family paid for the services (fixing slow drain when bathtub is filled and one issue with our toilet), they came to fix the problem and ended up creating a worse problem than we started with. I will also mention, we paid for the service months back (about six) and the bathtub issue has not been fixed. Jim raised his voice at my mother, would not listen to our concerns, and covered his ears when I was asking him to speak respectfully to my mom and began to ignore me. This is my first yelp review ever. Glad I read Steve K's review and called Jim. Yesterday was Xmas eve and I had a bad clog affecting the whole house's drain system. I called at least 4 other people and got answering machines. It was 3:30 in the afternoon and Jim answered his phone. I told him what I had and realized it was probably a bad day to ask for him to come by. (this day, Xmas eve, was a Saturday to boot) He said he'd come by in an hr. and a half. He showed up in an hr. And, immediately went to work. This guy is no-bull. He spent a half hr. trying to clear my main line from the septic tank but, couldn't get at the clog with the "smaller" machine he had with him. He said he wasn't going to quit on me and drove to another location to get the "big machine". Was back in 20 mins. and spent a half hr. trying to break the clog from the septic tank end of the line. He still couldn't get it. He was pretty upset with himself but, this guy doesn't quit! We went under the house and hit the line with the smaller machine in what was a very tight, and awkward place for a guy to be running this rooter machine. He broke the clog and I felt as if my first child had been born I was so happy. This whole endeavor took a good hour and a half. Jim is a hard-working, no nonsense guy. Yes, James the plumber is great! Local guy. He has done my septic clogs for many years. Very reliable. I have had him come when nobody is home, do the job, leave a bill, I mail him a check. I'm not the kind of person who normally writes Yelp reviews, but I had to in this case. The short story: I've been paying way too much to the "rooter" services to take care of plumbing issues and after a particularly huge bill for something that should have taken little time and effort I gave up on being ripped off and searched for the Real Deal. I found it in The Plumber. It's just a handful of guys from Boulder Creek, but they're the guys you want--experienced, responsive, and reasonably priced. We had a leak under our driveway that the rooter guys said would cost *thousands* to deal with. James and Steve came over, dealt with the problem in a couple of hours, and charged us well under a thousand for the work. While on the job we pointed out a couple of other issues we wanted to deal with--redoing the shutoff valve to the house and some leaking faucets--and within a week they were back, did what needed doing, and charged us a perfectly reasonable price. These guys don't have the fancy painted trucks, the little blue booties, the clipboards, or the "loyalty plans"--the stuff that looks good, but is designed to drain your wallet as well as your pipes. Instead, they offer competent service. What more could you ask for? read more
