a sign that reads send noodle
    Patrick M.

TM E U T........S E N D N O O D S ! No, I did not misspell anything in the headline. A sign on the wall in the restaurant we went to literally says exactly what you just read...."Send Noods". It was actually quite catchy, and original, or at least original to us as we have never seen it in any other restaurant. The sign on the wall is a picture of a bowl of noodles. The actual name of the restaurant is "The Poke Jar". Now a Poke Jar, I was told by the actual owner who came to our table to check on us, is traditionally filled with whatever is needed to make an entire meal. The cuisine mentioned here is called, "Asian fusion". One would imagine, as we both did ourselves, that the entire menu would be just that....Asian...or oriental. However, much to our surprise AND ENJOYMENT, the menu was extensive, covering nearly everything imaginable at all the usual go to restaurants, with one VERY big difference. The food was a much needed improvement over all the others, or as Mike said, the crap at Applebees. Before anyone throws hate at the Applebees comment, they too have good food, but they play second fiddle to The Poke Jar. As you can see by the pictures, the chef knows what he's doing. It doesn't just look good. To merely say that a picture paints a thousand words in an understatement. For example, there's a thing called the walking taco. Anyone who's ever attended a scholastic wrestling event knows what this is. They take a bag of any kind of chips, such as Doritos, cut the top off with scissors and fill it with a hodgepodge of beans and such so you can eat this mess from the bag with a fork as you walk around. Mike, who's not JUST the owner but ALSO the chef, coached the walking taco as if it was a states wrestling contender into a states champion. He took the walking taco out of its bag and coached it into what's known as the street taco, putting it on top of the podium to become the undefeated champion. So, the next time you think about going to Crapplebees.....or I mean Applebees, go see Mike and Shay and you'll never eat at the apple again, or at least not for a while. Before I end this, I have to give our server, Shay, an absolute standing ovation. She knew the menu as if she wrote it and made recommendations on just about everything. That's How I See It

I got tuna and salmon poke. My peep got ramen. They liked ramen(I should try it next time). Poke was filled with lots of rice and very little meat, cucumbers, avocado and onion. I will not recommend poke for poke lovers. Place is nice and clean.

    3. Shrimp Tacos

Hidden gem!! My friend and I had an impromptu lunch date to catch up. The food is amazing!!! We had the shrimp tacos, bulgogi tacos and the chicken wings. Food was so fresh and had great flavors. Can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu

    3. Duck You Ramen (GF)

Great new spot! Food was delicious! We tried the duck ramen, lobster roll, Korean tacos and an appetizer. Extremely flavorful and well prepared. Service was great as was the atmosphere. Highly recommend!!

I'll admit to having kind of written it off for a long time due to the weird menu/concept (it's hard to trust that a restaurant is going to serve you a burger, some empanadas and a plate of pad Thai and execute any or all of them competently), but the good people at Fusion are serving food that's truly, honestly about three times better than it needs to be (caveat: we've stuck to the more Asian sections of the menu, so I won't make any bold claims about the burgers). The Chinese portion of our family unit said that my drunken noodles reminded him of the stuff that a street vendor sold outside of his middle school, which like, IYKYK (if you don't know, this is about the highest praise a plate of noodles can get). I'm not normally a major pad Thai enthusiast, but the version here was well-balanced and flavorful, not just kind of sweet and gloppy like a lot of local versions, and the broth for the chicken noodle soup is also truly random-SE Asian-street-cart level flavorful. If that wasn't enough to sell you on this place, the draft Sapporo is five bucks. In conclusion: please come here support these nice folks so they can continue to make above-par food for many years to come.

I will admit at first I was a little nervous, the restaurant only had a total of four menus so we had to share, and we were told the bartender hadn't showed up that day. Nonetheless, I immediately got a good vibe from the guy working there. The menu had a Colombian section, a burger section and an Asian section. We all stuck with Asian dishes. It quickly became clear that the guy taking our order was the only one working. He got to work making the meals for six people. While he was cooking away, another large group of at least seven people arrived and sat themselves. You'd never know there was one guy doing everything all alone because the food was beautifully presented, all dishes were served together and man was it delicious! Everyone was very happy with their meals and we all got a variety of dishes. This is clearly a small business and definitely worth checking out. The one guy there was working so hard, but was so friendly and still attentive, despite manning the place alone. I will definitely be back to try out more

Then came the pineapple fried rice with pork belly. Savory, caramelized pork belly met bright bursts of pineapple in a perfect sweet-salt balance. Fluffy rice studded with peas, carrots, and ribbons of egg. My three year old son dove in without hesitation, happily scooping forkfuls of rice and pineapple like he had discovered treasure. No negotiations. Just joy. Fifteen minutes later, box in hand, the real event began. Across melting ice. A sharp jaywalk. A cut through the gas station. A full sprint toward the train station as the gates threatened to close and my family waited. It was an unofficial, record-breaking mile fueled entirely by fried rice ambition. Once the cold air finally left my lungs, I cracked open the box. Steam rose into the winter air. The smell alone was victory. I ate every last grain on that train, a triumphant feast earned the hard way. My wife was not impressed with how close I cut it. I, however, stand by the decision. Some meals are worth the sprint.

A tea leaf salad or Lat phat thoat has "Crispy pea, peanut, sesame seed and garlic oil with ground pickle tea leaf, cabbage and tomato." It was a little funky, a bit like kimchi, with a wonderful textural crunch provided by the peanuts. Palata (deep fried layered & flattened dough), commonly served at street food stalls, is reminiscent of scallion pancakes (without the scallion). In this case, it was served with a chicken, potato, and dahl stew. The saltiness of the stew was tamed by the layered and fatty dough. I might skip the chicken dumplings because those were boiled from frozen, store bought items. The pandan dessert, similar to a bubble tea, was an added extra. I'd definitely go again.

It's a huge space with a lot of room for regular and hibachi tables, with modern decor. Service is very friendly and consistent which is not always the case with these kinds of places. They had an issue with one of the vents while we were here, however they quickly fixed it. Just needed to leave the back door open for a bit. Drinks were on the sugary side which is typical; my mai thai was good however I couldn't do 2. Soup and salad were good. Chef was one of the better hibachi chefs I've gotten. Wish they flipped shrimp instead of veggies for an appetizer, but hey, recession. More importantly than the presentation and show (which was good), they did a really good job with the food. Steak was perfectly cool if a bit over seasoned. Scallops were seared better than I've had at a lot of fancier restaurants. Massive portions too when the veggies, noodles and rice were factored in too. Of course my food got switched at home, and I got a fuckton of chicken instead of my steak. I mourned this, however will survive to return again.

The flavor was delicious but it had a strange texture. For my main meal, I ordered the 3 roll sushi lunch and that was a great deal. The rolls were pretty good and they tasted fresh. The rice was soft and the fish was tender. I enjoyed my meal and the cost was great considering what you would normally pay for the rolls. I'd have lunch from this spot again.
