Another night of trivia, another loss, and another set of weird things on our recent visit, starting with us asking to sit in a booth and the host saying there were none available. Of course we saw two - one huge booth ready to go, and another smaller one that just needed to be bussed. After repeated inquiries (negotiating?), the host chose to seat us at the huge booth, which we didn't mind (and where we've sat before), but that did mean that a bigger party would have a tougher time finding a table when we were just two people - why not just bus the other booth? The host I saw later on slumped over the check-in stand; at first I thought he was napping, but he was watching something on his phone and doing a bad job trying to conceal it. You shouldn't have to hide it because you're not supposed to be on your phone period, right? Right? (This, after witnessing the bartender playing trivia on his phone - see my previous review). I've gotten the steak salad many times and this time the steak came out quite fatty and hard to chew, but I eat many overdone steaks so I just tried to bare with it. More egregious was the avocado, which was incredibly ripe, and any kitchen staff member should not have sent it out, because it should have been obvious that, if they could barely cut through it, how could I? Worse yet, how would I chew it? (And that's getting past the taste.) That got sent back and I was given another avocado that was just slightly better. Our server did apologize more than once for the steak and avocado, but nothing was done as far as the bill. The trivia app glitched twice this time, completely messing up our status in the game, so I think we are probably done with trivia! We hope not to be done with The Porch, because the place is cool and close to us, but, in an area of so many dining options, they really need to get their act together, once and for all. read more

Ugh. So bad. We used to order from the one in Arcadia a lot and loved it but the last two times here have been terrible. They advertise mimosas with a "flight" of juices and bring two random glasses with OJ. Fine. Once I started drinking my mimosa it tasted like soap. No one ever checked in to see how it was going and we had spent 30+ minutes trying to order so I couldn't say a thing. I ordered the avocado toast with over medium eggs. The toast came but was stale and not toasted, very little avocado, and the eggs were burnt but raw which is so weird. Bacon tasted like it was from yesterday. At one point we saw a server digging through 100+ credit cards left from patrons. I think it's illegal to keep those for so long and can't imagine they are all from a recent timeframe. Finally visited the porch on 40th St. and Indian school and unfortunately to say I was not impressed as I enjoy supporting local business, but the food was very mediocre at best and the white staff was very inattentive. Went with a group of friends. We shared the happy hour menu and they served hummus with very little hummus. Many vegetables hummus was very mediocre and the boneless wings were just ground up chicken and deep fried with a sweet sauce that was not that great. And unfortunately, I kept asking for Mexican beer and what I received was Miller light draft and not what I wanted so I will not be returning to this place. read more

Me and my friends come here nearly weekly for the environment, the cocktails, music and food (especially the brunch spicy bloody marys and pretzels/mozzarella sticks during the evenings) but above all else the service! Our favorite waitress is Holly, she's attentive and quick no matter how many tables she's taking care of but over all we've never had an issue or had to wait long when we pop in. I definitely recommend this stop on any downtown Gilbert bar crawl or just for a quick bite + a cocktail! read more

Went there last night with a few buddies, our server almost never came to check on us (15-20 minutes to get a beer as well) and it was Tuesday night.. wasn't the busiest night. Food was awful, fries were cold (that I had to ask for because they didn't even bring them out at first) and I swear we were bothering every one there by just being there. I hadn't seen this group of friends in almost three years and it made it so awkward every time someone came up to us because they seemed so annoyed. The worst part was at about 10:20 (to be fair I think they closed at 10 and we had no clue) a sweet girl came out and told us they're closed and we asked 'there's 30 seconds left in this suns game can we just watch this' and she said sure. The tattoo'd manager comes out, doesn't make eye contact with us (that says a lot) and just turns the T.V. off and scampers away. It was just overall horrible service and food, the ambiance there was nice. I apologize for being there (with about 35 other people scattered throughout the bar) after close, but the way y'all handed it is pretty disheartening. Honestly been to a few different locations and this is by far the best one! The bartenders were attentive and interactive especially Austin. Not only the staff but the GM Cole had a great conversation with us and made us feel welcomed. Would recommend and will be returning. Especially for Sunday football! read more

Checking in at The Porch: We sat within 15 min. First round we requested 3 bottles, we received three bottles with 1 cup of orange juice. Menu shows per bottle we should receive an assortment of 3 juices. Gilbert downtown is a pretty popular area, I am disappointed in the service we received as any request for food or additional juices had poor service overall. Updated- the restaurant response is misleading. It wasn't busy... plus there were 3 'hostesses' just standing around. We were one group of a handful of diners. Other tables got their food / orders well before we did. Our experience was excused by the manager as being 'short staffed'... in a nearly empty restaurant with 3 hostesses standing by the door. We decided to try The Porch since it's relatively new in DT Gilbert and they were promoting their trivia night. We enjoy trivia as a family. First, the server was wonderful. The stars have nothing to do with her service. But the food was terrible. Of the 5 of us, my wings were the only meal edible. The flavors were just "off" on the others (black and white tuna bowl, forbidden rice, buffalo roasted cauliflower, pork soup). No one finished their meal and no manager checked to see why. We won't be back for food or trivia. The trivia doesn't have a "live" host. It's all on the screen so it just feels like we could be playing at home. It didn't contribute to a festive and competitive atmosphere which is what we enjoy about trivia out. read more

Came here for a qick bite to eat with a girl friend. The drinks were really good and refreshing. I think the names were my ex wife secret and south of the border. We started off with the ceviche witch was really good. I ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. I did not like it at all. Was kinda dry and really didint have any flavor or spices to it. I ended up drowning it in cholula. My friend ordered the grilled lania chicken sandwich. She thought it was okay. Definitely wouldn't come back here to eat but would come for the drinks. read more

All I can say is Hannah is our girl!! It was my baby sisters bday and she went above and beyond to make sure us lady's had a fantastic time. Especially on a Sunday nite. We've tried the Porch a handful of times and there's been issues with nearly every issue. 1. First trip - My gluten free child ordered a burger with GF bun and it was brought back with a Potato Bun, because their server thought Potato meant no gluten in it and didn't instruct kitchen to make GF. 2. Used waitlist on second trip a while back and apparently on Friday/Saturday they shut off the Waitlist at a certain time so about 1 minute out from the restaurant they cancelled our position in line and we arrived to be told we'd have to wait in line. We didn't wait...third trip was fine. No issues. 3. 4th and final visit - asked for a steak salad minus onions. All else as is on menu ok. They delivered my salad covered in onions but had substituted 2 items on the menu for other ingredients. For example - replaced black beans with Pumpkin seeds. They added Pico (more onions) in lieu of cheese. I sent it back and when it came back the amount of steak was less than a third of what it was on the first order. I don't think this restaurant is meant for me...beyond these issues, the speakers are SO loud. I'm not opposed to music or a game but both were both so loud it was awful, and I was even outside. Update: 10.30.23 I'm not sure what hours is referred to in your response Tyler. Our first was a weekday lunch, our second a weekend evening and the 4th a weekday night. Our issues seem to persist regardless of the day and time. As I mentioned, maybe it's just my bad luck at this particular restaurant. What a great addition to downtown Gilbert. I like the Tempe location a little better, for they have more open outside areas and fun games. This location is a little smaller and doesn't have the games out. It is pretty busy on a Saturday for brunch and day drinking, our wait for outside was about an hour. Come early or come late to avoid the wait. I love their menu in general. Cracks me up every time. You can order a drink called Cougar Bait (it's delicious) Big Ass Bowl of Pork Stew, Adult Version of Strawberry Cake Stack, and last the kid's menu had me dying haha. The options are, I Don't Care, I'm Not Hungry, I want to go home, and more! They really know the struggle when parents feed their kids at a restaurant haha! Service was a little slow and crazy, but once the place died down some, our server was able to attend to us a lot faster. Not going to drop a star for being busy, because anyone in the restaurant/bar industry right now is hustling! The next visit will be all about the food. For we are becoming regulars here. read more

I went in on a Thursday night. There was a DJ playing hip hop / club music (I'm not quite sure what it was) so loud it was deafening. I said to my girlfriend that there was no way I sit through a meal with that sound level (even if it was music I liked). She agreed, so we left and went elsewhere. I've been to the Phoenix and Gilbert locations several times and never felt like I needed an immediate exit. I think management needs to figure out what their business is. I think it supposed to be a bar and grill / sports bar type of place. But that was music and volume for a dance club, not a place for people to dine and converse. The food is generally average for bar food, which is ok for a later in the evening go to place. Now I can't even go at all. Since we couldn't even stay more than 20 seconds, I couldn't actually rate it anything over one star read more

Soup came out cold and not when it was requested as it was wanted before the rest of the to go order came out. There was zero pork in the pork stew, upon complain about it was told that there is pork included in the larger portion. So you get rice stew unless you order a larger portion. Barkeep looked at me like I was the plague for saying anything at all about the way I had made my order to come out and the soup bring cold and not having anything other than rice. The disparity in this joint is huge. The drinks took forever to get to us and the " Sunset on the Porch" was just meh. The "red wine float" was just red wine in my bourbon. No float was to be seen. We asked for our appetizers to come out first. The Porch Poppers were brought out cold and a mess. We had taken one bite when our food was brought out. We told the busser to take the poppers back as they were cold. The meal was half terrific and half sad. The Big ass bowl of pork stew was hot and really tasty. The grilled cheese was barely warm and hard and just kinda sad. We always want to try new places and even if this isn't new in general it may be quite a while before we think about giving them a second chance. read more

We were told an hour wait for a table but we could chill at the bar, 10 min in we had a table, so couldn't complain there. Good selection was good, like an elevated bar menu. A friend and I split the appetizer sampler and it was plenty of food for us two; my other friend had chicken tenders and fries and said it was perfect. I try really hard to like this place but I'm consistently disappointed. I usually end up here when the wait is too long at one of the neighboring spots I really like. Every time I come it's something weird. Either the server forgets about us, the drinks are mispriced on the receipt (order a basic marg and get charged for a premium skinny marg), or the food tastes like it's either 5 star or fresh out of the microwave. Came here for the first time on Valentine's Day evening. The food was sooo good!!! My husband and I are still talking about the chicken nachos even a day later!! The chicken was cooked to perfection! Not dry at all like most places. We also got the mozzarella cheese sticks which were excellent and the waffle chicken which were good, too. Service was good. The bartender could have been friendlier but otherwise, it was a great experience and we will be back ! read more
