From Chicago, first time at the Porch on a Sunday after church. The place was poppin'! Whatever you do, I highly recommend sitting outside. We were by the mist machine and it kept us cool. I ordered the pork stew (5/5) and it was really good! I've never had anything quite like it before. It was like a pork taco, without the shell, and a little more soupy. Very original and good. Awful place for a large party! Server forgot drink orders and we were served incorrect food orders including my own burgers which were burnt. Also made a reservation weeks in advance for this big group and was told that we could have 3 bills split up and paid for within the group but then the day came and was told something completely different that it could only be all items on 1 bill. Spoke with a disingenuous server who made no effort to separate the bill. Finally manager offered some pitiful $5 off coupon for our next visit. Very disappointing experience. read more

I've lived just a few blocks from this restaurant for the past four years, but have never tried it. Super cute from the outside, but reviews always seemed a little mixed. In any event, we finally gave it a try this weekend and I must say had a pretty good experience. Service was friendly and solicitous, definitely focused on the upsell, so took some of the staff recommendations with a grain of salt. In addition, almost every item on the menu has options for adding more items and obviously more cost. But, admirable I guess on their part, it is a business after all and this seems to be the norm these days. We ordered the following: Shrimp Quesadillas (4/5) - good quality, quantity and fillings. Shrimp decent size and cooked perfectly with/generous portion of cheesiness. Salsa had nice smoky undertones and tasted very fresh. Good compliment to the quesadillas. Beer Battered Onion Rings (4.5/5) - home run. Took .5 points of because it wasn't that generous of a portion. But these were great. Crisp with a good crunch. Onions tender and cooked perfectly inside. Served with ranch and tomato ketchup. Excellent with both. Cheeseburger with salt/pepper fries (4/5). Thought this was a great burger, chose to go with the two smashed patties. I favor these especially when they have a nice crunch around the edges and this one did. Fries were also pretty good. Wasn't a huge fan of their house sauce which fortunately I got to the side, so I added a little ketchup and mustard and it was perfect for me. All in all a good visit, loved that several TV's were visible from almost every seat and each featured different sporting events. Looks like they have a pretty good happy hour and they have a late night menu of items that is pretty extensive compared to some other bars in the area. This is my second time coming to The Porch, and it was even better this time than the first. My server, Grace, greeted us in a very friendly manner that carried on throughout our time here. She provided excellent service and couldn't have been any more courteous and helpful. I ordered the pickleback burger and it was excellent. It was cooked just right and arrived at the table hot and delicious. The restaurant is split into half patio seating, half indoor seating and the atmosphere and open air feel is extremely comfortable. They play low music that is not intrusive at all and adds greatly to the environment. We were a party of 6 and they made us sit outside on a 105 degree day because the bar was supposedly reserved for a private event. We watched and few of the tables in the bar area filled. We waited 20 mins for anyone to come to our table. They brought waters initially and waited another 15 mins for 4 waters and 2 iced teas. When they finally took our order, we had been there an hour. Another 30 mins later, two of six dishes came out. Over the next 30 mins, they brought one dish at a time. We walked in at 1pm and finally got the last order of food at 2:30p. I decided to go to this place for lunch. It's a few minutes way from work. I arrived there and their sign says seat yourself and I did near the bar. 13 minutes of sitting there with no server acknowledging me, even after noticing me there. I decided to leave. The bartender and server were chatting and laughing while standing about 15 feet away from me. another server was back and forth with his customers. Guess the shift manager was on break or in back doing administrative stuff and didn't notice a customer not being served and his/her employees too busy chatting. This was on March 5th at noon. Also, most of the place was empty so, it wasn't too busy to get service. So, dear servers, do your job. read more

My family and I enjoyed dinner here while watching Monday night football. Though I always envisioned us at their Tempe location, this location ended up being closer to our Airbnb. It definitely looks like a bar when you walk in but it's a restaurant and kids are allowed. We sat in a nice booth with great lighting and a large TV. We loved that they had a few appetizer sampler platters on the menu. We ordered 2 different ones and took lots of leftovers home. They have plenty of of creative themed drinks and beer towers with local beer on tap Our waitress was super attentive and kind. The sliders were delightful and the fries perfectly thin and crispy. Portions were large and there was enough to take home. My friend's shrimp salad looked AMAZING. I'm not a salad person but I'm definitely ordering it next time - plenty of shrimp, good dressing, and just really nicely presented (fancy!). Almost like we were in a dead zone and no-one thought we were their table. The shrimp salad turned into a wrap with fries was good but soggy. As for cocktails: A strawberry and a lemon walked into a bar - good but too sweet Cougar bait 2.0 - it didn't taste like hibiscus. It tasted more like grapefruit. It was extremely bitter. Some of the best food in Phoenix. I had the "Big Ass bowl of Pork Stew" with black rice, and my wife had the Forbidden Rice bowl with salmon. My food was amazing. The chilis in the stew gave it amazing flavor and the hominy gave a creative consistency that really elevated the dish. The forbidden rice bowl was presented creatively, spiced perfectly and the salmon was perfect. 5 stars all around. The patio with the swing tables, the yard games, =amazing! Online is stated dog friendly and I have personally witnessed 4 dogs be allowed in last night and was told the same from an employee at this location as I was leaving. To cut to the point I was declined service and was told they were aware of this and that it causes them issues but the host simply laughed it off. We went for trivia night. It was just a recording on the tvs (with ads lol) and you have to download an app to reply. Not interactive at all with other people in the restaurant. Then the app crashed multiple times until we finally just gave up. A guy was walking around asking if we were playing- because he was drinking a beet at a table it was unclear if he worked there or organized the game? (the hostess had no idea how trivia was set up) He walked by our table and interrupted our conversation to ask "You're not playing anymore?!" I said "haha no" and he asked "Just don't want to have fun?" so then I said "No, the app keeps crashing, it sucks." to which he replied "It must be your phone because no one else is having issues." I think The Porch is a great place to catch a game, have a drink and even Sunday Funday. I really enjoy the lovely atmosphere. The patio is set up with a large Adirondack chair and swings which adds to the playful vibe. The inside is full of fun patterns and lights that create a great atmosphere. Big fan of their drink menu. The Porch pounder is a great choice if you want something slightly sweet but not over done. I think they sadly fall a little flat when it comes to the food. I would describe it as basic bar food. We had the Leilani Chicken Sandwich, Chicken Tinga Quesadillas, Grilled Cheese and Mac n Cheese, all the dishes were good but nothing that blew us away. The Leilani had way to much sauce on it which made it a mess to eat. I'll be back for sure but most likely to only enjoy the atmosphere and drinks. read more
