Not many restaurants give you an emotional rush, bare with me, this is embarrassing... I just broke up with my girlfriend, and wasn't feeling the greatest as you can imagine, so my friend, business partner, and hetero-life-mate took me out for dinner and drinks. Little did I know I would meet Mickey, probably one if the best restauranteurs I've ever had the opportunity of knowing. When my hetero-life-mate refused to Lady and The Tramp The Porch's signature Giant Moscow Mule with me, Mickey suggested we imbibe with our own mules. One became two, and two became six, and before we knew it we had consumed most of their mule supply. The manager said we had enough, but Mickey, the best person in this place, said we were good to go for another round. Even after I berated the manager with inappropriate language unbecoming of a gentleman like myself. Not only did Mickey have our back, but he got us an Uber with the most strict Covid-19 guidelines. Mickey even wiped down the whole uber himself. Even after all the nonsense we put Mickey and his professional and courteous manager through, they still had our back. I'll never forget Mickey. Thanks Mickey. Also The Porch is OK too the chicken nanchos are not bad. read more

We were looking for somewhere to eat before heading to a concert. Could have gone to a regular haunt but decided to checkout The Porch. One of the reviews cautioned on limited parking. I agree, but we were lucky to find a spot because someone was leaving. If this place is full, I have no idea where people park, but I digress. We sat at the bar by choice. Service was prompt, courteous, and continuous. Didn't catch the name of the bar staff member who took care of us. I ordered a rueben, and my spouse got the Nashville chicken sammie. Both were tasty. Really want to try this place again; it looks like it'd be a lot of fun on weekends or when relevant sports events are occurring. Patio is inviting. read more

This is easily the best bar in Phoenix. Kaylie is easily the best bar manager I have come across, plenty of personable conversations and an absolute attention to detail. You will never wait for a drink with her or any of the bartenders. Everyone on the staff is super laid back and will go above and beyond to make sure you have a great time. Customer service is on point every time I am here. If you are looking for food the quesadilla and the burgers are absolutely amazing. They have trivia and plenty of people to get along with there. I came to The Porch in Scottsdale recently and unfortunately was really disappointed with the food experience. I waited about an hour for my meal, and when it finally came out it was lukewarm at best. I ordered chicken tenders, and the portion was shockingly small -- more like a kid's meal than a regular order. For the price and the wait, it just didn't feel worth it. On the positive side, the staff and service were friendly and attentive, so I don't fault the servers at all. But the kitchen really needs to step it up on both timing and quality.(The star is for the service.) read more

Great food & drinks with a cool vibe. Brunch drinks are way too spendy though!! Especially when The Vig next door has $3 Mimosas and a $4 bloody mary bar. $12 for a bloody mary & $8 for a Mimosa is crazy expensive. I think The Henry is less than that and so is OHSO. Both who make great Bloody Marys. I had a Michelada and it was $7.75. Thats to much! They do use Zing Zang for the mix, which is awesome! If they could get the drink pricing more in line with their competition, it would be a solid go to spot. Staff was on top of stuff too. Well done. read more

The Porch Arcadia is a fun neighborhood spot with a cool sports bar vibe and daily food + drink specials that keep things interesting. The Wednesday short rib grilled cheese for $12? Total steal! Went with friends and we also shared the eggrolls and giant nacho, those nachos were piled high with toppings, especially the guac, which was the perfect refresher on a 100-degree day. Don Woods' Say When

4.1

(170 reviews)

I first came across Don Woods' Say When reading a Yelp article listing out the best rooftops in…read moreeach state. Don Woods was Arizona's pick. For quite a few months, I had it on my list to visit. I finally made things happen on a Wednesday evening for a drink. Located on the roof (of course) of a boutique hotel, I find free parking in the hotel's parking lot. While it was a busy parking lot, I was able to find a spot. Unfortunately, my night consisted of a comedy of errors. Ambiance (3/5): When you think best rooftop in the state, you're thinking scenic and peaceful views. Don Woods' certainly has that, though I've seen better in Phoenix. You can see the mountains in the background, but that's about it. The hotel is located on a busy street, where you'll often hear the noise of cars buzzing by or the train choo-chooing. Did I just make up a word?! I imagine the best time to stop by is during sunset. The outdoor area is relatively narrow with seating for about 20-30 people. It's a mix of comfortable seats and tables/chairs. There's also a charming indoor area, where the bar is located, but I felt like I had to sit outside. The weather was perfect, too. Service (2.5/5): This is where the comedy of errors began. I was given a menu and some water and was left to peruse the menu. Before the waitress had returned, I had picked out an appetizer and a cocktail. I then discovered that their cook had quit the other week and as a result, no food was available. That's fine and all, but you've gotta give me a heads-up when giving me the menu. That way, I wouldn't have spent the time to look over the food menu and get my heart set on a particular dish. On a better note, they have free WiFi. And service was overall friendly and pretty efficient. Food (N/A): While I was unable to order some food, on most nights, they have a small menu of small plates. More of a snack type of spot then a full meal type of establishment. Drinks (3/5): Don Woods is know for its cocktails and they have a list of 10 or so craft cocktails. Plus, beer, wine, and the typical options that you would find when there's a full bar. I feel like the bartender messed up the proportions on my cocktail as it was a bit rough. One drink and I was out. It seems like Don Woods' is experiencing some turnover which is leading to some mishaps. Combine that with some high expectations given the accolades they won, and it was the recipe for a disaster. I love a good rooftop bar, so I was hoping for more at Don Woods' Say When. Even the lobby of the hotel was experiencing issues. They sell popsicles in the lobby but the guy temporarily manning the front desk didn't know how to get their Square device working. Which ended up meaning no appetizers for me at Don Woods and no popsicles from the lobby. Two strikes. We live to fight another day.
