Great Pub food with a gourmet twist! A little more refined than you average bar.

I LOVE THIS BAR. The drinks are great and seasonal so its always interesting. Wasabi Ranch is a must, if i could take some home I would. I have gone here on my Bike before and its safe outside from the bike jackers. The waiters are great especially my kindred soul Micheal. Over all I love it. Makes the Vern a better place. read more

We came in with 10 people and saw some booths available, however the staff told us the didn't have room for us, or even give us the option to wait...too bad, could have been a great tip and business. Poor customer service. read more

We had such high hopes. Items we were looking forward to from the online menu were nowhere to be found. Atmosphere was good but unfortunately the food was very overpriced and severely lack luster. Ordered the Sockeye salmon w/ seasonal vegetables and mashed potatos croquette with the "five gulf prawns" for the extra $7. I was served an hour later a dry salmon patty, 3 asparagus spears, a fried potato patty, and 5 small shrimp. Crab cakes were very small for the price as well, and the 3 drinks my husband tried to order turned into 2 because they forgot the 2nd and then it took too long to finally bring something in its place because "oh they're actually out..." Good atmosphere. The nitro red was amazing. Food was timed and cooked perfectly. Michael gave great beer suggestions and let us taste before we committed. Bill was actually less than we expected considering we had 3 beers each, shared an appetizer and two burgers-$66!!! Parking is easy to find and free. Beer and wine only but has a great selection. Tried to go to Empire Ale House on a Monday. It was closed. Found this place instead and it is so good. All day Monday $3 pint of REALLY good beer and very good pub food and service. A definite do again! read more

Really disappointed in the crab and corn chowder. Hardly any crab or corn and it was luke warm. The garlic toast accompaniment almost had some butter and garlic on it. My carne asada tacos were filled with gristly beef, another disappointing meal. Probably won't be back. read more

My husband and I love this place. I can't say enough good things about the (very hardworking) staff, love the food, love the beer. We walk here on a weekly basis when my husband is not on the road for work. When family comes into town, we bring them here. That is why I'm sorry to report while we were sitting at the bar recently, someone kept shoving into the back of us. It was crowded, but not to that extent. We've been in there when it was to that extent and people still don't shove into you the way someone was doing to the both of us. We're not confrontational types at all, but it was starting to be a little ridiculous. We turn around and a woman apologizes to us. We didn't think much of it, but then states she is the owner. After this, she continues to push into us while we're sitting there. We got our dinner to go. If it would have been any sort of work-related bumping, I would not be writing this review, but she seemed to be hanging out and ok with making two of her customers uncomfortable when there was somewhere else for her to stand. I can't imagine being the owner of a popular establishment and shoving into two of my customers on purpose simply because I wanted to be in that space at that time. I do not write bad reviews because I understand that someone might be having an off day or whatever, it happens. However, in the almost two years we've been going there, we've never once seen her. Her staff was slammed that night and, again, I guess as an owner you don't have to be the one schlepping, but if I was an owner you can bet your rear end mine would be in there working with my staff. We love you staff of Porterhouse, we love your food and beer, you make it our go-to place in Mount Vernon. We aren't sure if we will be back because now we know who our money is going to. We thought another member of the staff owned the place because of how he's always there and always busting his butt. read more

The Porterhouse is a great local pub. The tap selection is constantly rotating with Boundary Bay IPA as the standard which is always on tap. So on the extremely rare occasion that nothing else sounds appealing they always have one of the northwest's best IPAs flowing. Mondays are a great night to head in as it is happy hour all day long featuring $3 pints!!! The food is also good. The pasta selection and the salads are a great place to start!! The prawn caesar al greco salad is one of my favorite things on the menu. That being said they could put a few more prawns in it. The baked four cheese penne pasta is to die for!!! More often than not the daily special is also a good choice. And they're not on the menu, but order the cheese fries!!! They are amazing!!! Perhaps if ordered enough they will find their way back into print. All in all this is great local spot for either a few pints with some friends or a tasty meal. Bested only by The Empire Alehouse it is one of the best pubs in the area!!! read more

Hate leaving negative reviews but this place was drab and the service an abomination - I kept thinking I was held prisoner at her pace, her world, and wanted to leave. Food was average. Big portions. But need to get some new staff in here and liven then scenery. read more

I don't get what all the fuss is about. I've tried to like this place. I really have. I've gone three times now so i guess shame on me. The first time i went i was excited to see a PLT (Prosciutto, Lettuce, Tomato) on the menu. However the roll it was served on was so hard it was almost impossible to chew. Also they added so much Parmesan cheese that is all you could taste. And the fries it came with were so salty i couldn't eat them. The second time i went i had a pork chop which wasn't too bad. Unfortunately it was very small and didn't come with an adequate number of sides so i had to stop by McDonald's on the way home. The third time i couldn't find anything on the menu that looked appetizing so i settled for nachos which were seasoned with an odd cajun seasoning. Not good. All three times I've been there the service has been quite slow. Why do people continue to frequent this place while there is so many more exciting and edible places within walking distance? read more

The best part of this place was the atmosphere and the awesome beer selection. The food was a bit more disappointing. The best food of the night was the sweet potato fries hands down. I could have eaten that all night and the huge portion made up for the rest of the disappointing food. I ordered the crab and corn chowder which I do not recommend. For $10 a bowl I was expecting something great. The taste was good, but what I got was a real thin soupy broth with very little corn and even less crab. There was probably a tablespoon or two of corn and I wouldn't have known it had any crab if the soup didn't include it in the name. And that was it. The rest was broth. At least throw a potato in or something. My husband ordered the lamb burger. Tasted good, but again if the bun is significantly larger than the patty, that's a problem, maybe invest in a smaller bun for your smaller burgers just so the diner doesn't feel like they laid 15 bucks for a bun and the meat was tough, but I'll cut the restaurant some slack and say maybe that was because he ordered it well done. He got the regular fries which were run of the mill. Just get the sweet potato fries and you can thank me later. I would go back, give this place another shot and get some more yam fries. read more

At least they had a great select of beer... We came up to enjoy Mount Vernon for the afternoon and we were deciding between a few restaurants to go to for lunch and I think we choose poorly. We had to wait to be served (the couple next to us got here before we did and left because they had been ignored, that should have been a sign). After being helped and ordering a beer and lunch we over heard the group next to us order salmon the server asked how they 'how would like their fish cooked'?!? We just at each other like wtf?! In conclusion I'd come back for a beer or two, but not if I was hungry. read more

Happy hour 4 till 6p, and all day Monday. Well priced North West quality beers. Super IPA selection. Free tasters. Low key but attentive service. Food is quality, a little pricey. Not on the menu is huge order of fires for $3 (or $4) bucks. About as good as it gets. read more

The beer selection at this place is awesome. There is a solid collection of local and not so local brews on tap. All meals I have had here are very good. The desserts are hit and miss. I am a true fan of a the burger and a beer type places. read more

This is a great place! The pulled pork sandy is fantastic. Spicy, and sweet. The BBQ sauce is homemade as is the tomato basil soup. The beer selection is fantastic, and the service is excellent. read more

Good food. Friendly service. Location close to the river. Nice laid back atmosphere. Reasonable prices. I recommend it.
