This review is for the food alone, because it's terrible. We had the penne pasta and buffalo salmon sandwich with salad and fries. True, we probably ordered the wrong items, but if these are the worst on the menu, pull them. Both were made from low-quality food service ingredients. Not much different than eating at a cafeteria. The fries are the frozen crinkle cut kind, which are fine for Dennys, but not a pub that tries to pass itself off as trendy. Quality fries can define a good pub. And if you're vegetarian, don't bother. Also, the Yelp menu is way out of date so don't go by that. Here's what I recommend: Make your fries something people remember. You're in Skagit, the land of potatoes. Buy fresh, local potatoes and serve a thick wedge garlic cheese fry. Add a condiment that helps differentiate like chipotle aioli. Salads, go for mixed greens, not just romaine and house make some decent dressings. Add a signature high protein vegetarian favorite like a house made spicy bean burger or a creative tempeh sandwich. Something even meat eaters will order every once in awhile. Add a side of kimchi, Pleasant Valley kraut or something fermented and you'll start to hit some trends. Salmon, we're in the NW. Everyone has a signature salmon dish. A hunk of salmon on a baguette doesn't cut it. Spice it up. Smother it in a local blueberry glaze. Something, anything. Just not dry salmon on dry bread. read more

The Porterhouse is a nice place - it is sort of the place you go in MV where you know you'll see someone you know. This is nice sometimes. Sometimes it isn't. The guy who opened the place sold it but has now come back to work there. He is great. There is one waitress that works there - tiny gal with blonde hair who is pretty rude. The other waitress - lisa loeb clone with thick rimmed glasses who wears cute snappy country western shirts is so nice. I hope you get her for your waitress. The other one is a brat. Beer is tasty. Stopped in on a rainy Saturday afternoon so not alot going on, but this is a great little dark, traditional pub. A good amount of tap handles, but dominated by local and not necessarily good breweries/beers. (Just cause they're local, doesn't make up tasty.) Favorite place to have a beer in the Valley. Not a party spot, not a loud spot, not a boring spot... just right for a guy in his late 20s early 30s to grab a beer with some friends. Great beer selection. The atmosphere is great, plenty of splace, two tiers that are somewhat separate areas. Their nachos are amazing, but haven't had much else off the menu. we came here after trying the thai place next door(see my tip for that ), this was a great alternate dining options food pork rib tips-too chewy, but seasoned well salad with wasabi sauce and shrimp was delicious! salmon fillet with asparagus and potatoes- good ! service a bit slow, but it was busy, our waitress was nice ambiance nice, it looked like a converted garage , our original table was close to the restroom which smelled like pee, so we moved, they need to work on their cleanliness the bathrooms were reasonably clean , they just wreaked of urine parking street and it was free overall, we came after visiting the tulip festival and it was a good experience , i would recommend to anyone in the area read more

Food was uninspired and service was worse. Went there on a Friday evening with some friends. Sign at the door said "Seat Yourself". Didn't see an open seat so asked the bartender. He told us that we'd have to wait and "get on the list". Ok, but what list???! Then a couple of guys started to get up from a table so we asked it they were leaving. Bartender stormed out and told us not cool. There wasn't anyone waiting in front of us. Got the cold shoulder after that. Don't need that attitude for mediocre food. Good beer selection though. 4 stars for beer - Micro brewery beers with things I can't even find on my beer app (untapped)....this is an awesome app by the way. With 21 roatating beers on tap. You're bound to find one. 3 stars for food - sadly. The food here is not that good, preparation is not bad. Decent ingredients but just poor idea. None of the food on the menu sound good. Boyfriend ordered the curry chicken sandwich. Which was tender but its just not a good combination. Its just not my taste maybe. Our friends got a chili burger and it just looked nasty. Try too hard to be different and sometimes just stick with the normal original pub food. Oh. And the price is overpriced for such food. read more

Rotating lineup of mostly NW brews - all good. The steak sandwich, burgers, & sweet potato fries are the best food items on menu IMO, but really it's all about the pints here - 1/2 price on Mondays! Regarding the previous comments on service, I have never had bad service here, but I can see how that may happen during a busy dinner rush (I usually go there for lunch or right after work). Regarding the parking - WTF? There is a HUGE public parking lot along the river that can get full during work day hrs, but then there's another 2-hour parking lot just around the corner (enough time for lunch) - oh, FYI, that lot is REALLY two hours, there is an EVIL parking witch that will tag your ass if parked 3 minutes longer than 2 hrs. read more

I don't know if the second venture just had bad timing. We went here around seven on a Saturday and they were surely busy. The sign at the front said "Please wait to be seated." We waited about ten minutes before our presence was even acknowledged. When we sat it was again a while before anyone delivered menus or even asked us for drink selctions. Our waiter was obviously flushed, forgetting to bring silverware, even after he mentioned it aloud three times. After he delievered our meals, he forgot accompaniments that we has asked for (like ketchup, ranch, etc), and still the silverware. My husband's food arrived lukewarm, my fish and chips were soggy and ours friend's food was lacking in taste. Then he finally remembered the silverware and one ranch. We each requested one so he had to make another trip. I was not drinking beer, so that made my drink choice irrevalent apparently, as I had to loudly offer my drink selection and never received a refill. DD's aren't respected here. Then the check, he had a really tough time splitting it. And when we were calculating the tip (15% rounded up for lackluster service, I thought generous really), he came around to comment on how he hard he had treid. Then, before we left he came to the table, picked up the checks examined the checks, looked at us and the grunted while he walked away. I dig this place for the local craft brews and the amazing selection of food. Props to whoever wrote this menu - each description I read got my mouth watering even more and made my choice of meal even harder. First off the brews - also a very hard decision, I left with so many more that I wanted to try. Beer #1 - Anacortes Belgian Tripel: this was a high quality Belgian brew with a light and sweet early notes with a smooth flavorful finish. Beer #2 - Dicks Danger Ale: I have to admit that I picked this one based on it's name, but I was pleasantly surprised upon first sip. Beginning with the sweetness of molasses and finishing with bitter notes this brew was a nice twist on the typical porter. The overall flavor was rich and filling. Now to the foodstuffs - after much internal debate and deliberation I settled on one of the pasta dishes. Beef Mushroom Stroganoff: the cream sauce was well balanced between light and rich and really complimented the tenderly stewed flank steak and mushroom combination of portabello and shitake. Sprinkled with shredded parmesan and a side of crispy French baguette for mopping up the sauce in the aftermath. This meal sits squarely in the class of gourmet comfort food that hits the spot after along day while simultaneously making welcomed twists and improvements to the standard fare of my childhood. Yet again I am left craving more from a fine establishment, but saddened that I will soon be leaving Washington. Every meal here solidifies my desire to return - or maybe even become a more permanent resident. read more

Knowing this I still ordered, it was about 1/2 full in there so I didn't think it would take too long. Unfortunately it took over an hour to get our food. We met my wife's family here for a Father's Day brunch. The food was pretty good for a pub type of place, with plenty of PNW microbrews on tap. All the food was well done, though they do not carry Halibut for the fish and chips they only carry Cod. It was still very tasty and a nice quiet place. A word of warning. Prety disappointed really. Service was great! Drink options great!! Food options looked amazing; but when we got them we were surprised how small the meat portions were. The meat loaf sandwich was more like a few crumbles of hamburger spread onto the bread?! Disappointing. Came in by chance because our favorite Indian restaurant next door was closed. This place has a great name but the food is bland. Very disappointing. Ordered Adobado red sauce pork tacos with pineapple. Adobado usually is a very bold tasty sauce but the only flavor that stood out was the pineapple. Had to add salt, the green sauce and crema that came with it to add more flavor. My husband ordered the meatloaf sandwich and it too lacked flavor. I have only been to The Porterhouse a handful of times but each time I have gone I have received good service as well as good food. I went there last night (9/30) with a friend. We found a table right away, we were greeted in a decent amount of time, checked on a decent number of times, and the food was warm and delicious. I had the lamb burger and my friend had the fish (cod) & chips. The waitress was even able to help me pick out a good beer I hadn't had before. I really like the ambiance in the restaurant, too. Kind of set up like a bar but filled with dinner tables... dark, rustic, and warm. I'll definitely go again. read more

We dropped in today for lunch. Lots of good choices and opted for the salmon salad and chowder with salad. Both were very good and the server was great, checking on us many times. Cait was a great waitres and there are some games to play while you wait for your food. Unfortunately that is all I have to say that is good about this place. The food is subpar and unseasoned. The fish tacos are litterally just unseasoned fish and chips on a small corn tortilla. It was a unfavorful nightmare of a meal. The bora bora burger was dry, tasted like jerkey and looked like something I would order from McDonald's 2 for 5 special.the burger was definitely a frozen patty that they heated up on the grill and it tasted like it. The nachos were also subpar. It was some cheese and and veggies thrown over some tostitos chips. 18 dollar nachos should not have tostitos chips. Overall I would never recommend this place. The food was awesome. But our server Jackie only came by to see us 3x in the two and a half hours that we sat there. She never introduced herself or looked any of us in the face. In fact she wouldn't stand at our table to take our orders, she was always walking away while we were talking to her. I had to walk up the bar to give her my food order and her response to me was " What do you want?" The best service we got from her was when we were leaving and she ran up to table to see if we paid. Horrible service and that was very disappointing as I was really looking forward to trying out this new place for us. Been to this restaurant over two year on and off. Initial I was not impressed by the menu but over time I trued there stake salad and dinner items and the dishes and service were outstanding. This is the best dinner restaurant in the valley. I have not eaten there for lunch. The last time I was there I asked to speak to the chef so I could thank her for the wonderful dinner. Really disappointed with my experience here. My boyfriend and I were super excited to try this place out! We sit down at the bar & ready to order drinks... The bar tender (female) asked for our IDs (we are both 24, but still have vertical IDs). She told us that she wasnt going to serve us & that we needed to leave (that it was just that "time of season"). Not really sure what that meant & I've never had an issue at any other brewery before! My brother and I tried to come here last night, but they wouldn't server us because I'm handicapped. I went straight into the ladies room while my brother went to order us drinks, and they said they had seen me get out of the car and would not serve me because they seen me walk. When my brother told them I have a bad knee and am handicapped they said we've made our decision and turned us away without ever having even spoken to me to assess me.
