If headed north from the restaurant I continue on Valley Drive and take a right on Raby Road which takes you to a traffic signal on Military Highway. The storefront is attractive and captures one's attention. The inside is spacious with fast food type booths that are larger than most. The walls are decorated with hangings such as one featuring the Old Dominion Monarchs. There were once rumors of a store being built in the Haygood area. So far that hasn't happened. That is way too long.. so after all was said and done, the waitress dropped off the bill and the minimum tip starts at 22% and goes up from there!! I ended up tipping around 12% because the service was very sub par to previous visits. Even tho we had a bad experience, I still highly recommend Cheesecake Factory for special events. I like it. I have gotten some shrimp pasta and it was a very big portion. Lots of tomatoes. I really enjoy the Oreo cheesecake. Full Oreo cookies inside? Yes, please! Service? Not bad. Everyone's been really nice whenever I've been waited on. If all of this is true, then why am I only giving two stars? Well, a few reasons. Allow me to explain and please hear me out. 1. The Prices. There is no excuse for the outrageous expense of every item on the menu. Sure, you get a lot. But that still doesn't justify it, in my opinion. Just because you have to park in a garage across the street, traverse through an office building, use an elevator, and then cross a busy intersection to even get in, does not mean that we also have to be charged massive moolah for the effort to dine next to a floating Aztec relic. 2. The Location. Like I mentioned above, it is not convenient to get to. Maybe it's just me, but I don't like having to complete a tour of half the block to be able to go to this place. I suppose you can burn off a few of the copious calories you'll consume at this place by walking over a mile back to your car, so that's cool, I guess. 3. The cheesecakes are frozen. While I'm not much of a food snob, it is easy to tell that most desserts at most places are indeed frozen. It is ironic that this place prides itself on its namesake, only for them not to even be made in-house. Just a nitpick, admittedly, but still worth noting. 4. The inside ambiance. Now this is what my initial disclaimer was for. Personally, this is the biggest problem I have with this place. And it really is just a "me problem".. However, I'm still going to share it. I do NOT like the atmosphere AT ALL. The large space, open floors, high ceilings, and distant noise do not help my sensory issues. For example: while seated in one of the booths, the back of said booth went almost all the way to the ceiling it seemed and it felt like being inside a coffin. The floating head in the wall peering at me the whole time didn't help matters. I could hear background chatter and yet couldn't see anyone or anything happening. It was like a Twilight Zone situation in my head. Made me feel really uncomfortable. It was VERY dizzying and I felt disoriented after only a few minutes in there. It gives me such anxiety and stress, that I have twice got my food to-go and left. One time before it was even served. First visit, I tried and failed. Second attempt 10 years later, I didn't even make it to the ordering before it got to me. It's just too much and I'm not accustomed to such large areas. It really weirds me out for some reason, even I don't fully understand. So if you happen to have any similar issues, then order to-go like I have a couple of times before. That's usually okay. I will say, that some of the interior is very nice-looking. It resembles a cathedral almost. But it's not fancy by any means. It holds up a facade of being so, but they have a "macaroni and cheese burger", so they cannot by any means, carry that sort of image without a few laughs being given in return. I would definitely eat from here, but I would only order to-go. Place is just too big, noisy, trippy, and stressful for my weirdo-brain to recognize as anything but uncomfortable.
