From the first phone call with the Professional Moving Specialist, where we walked through the details of my move they were incredibly professional. I guess I should not have been surprised, the word is in the company name. The company came highly recommended from a friend and their rates came in reasonable/comparable to the other company I spoke with. I was moving from a one bedroom apartment in the city to a five bedroom home in the suburbs. They recommended a crew of three and made the planning process easy. Leading up to the move, they reached out to confirm details and also sent a confirmation reminder email a couple days before. On the day of the move Victor #2 (as they call him at work) called me, and said they were running early. He let me know I could take my time because he knew they were not expected before 8 AM. I told them I was ready and he was able to talk to the maintenance team when he arrived to block the elevator early. Alfredo and Noe arrived at my door with Victor and all three immediately got to work. Victor and I reviewed the details of the contract and the costs of any additional supplies not included in the estimate. The office had prepared me for these additional costs up-front and I found them to be standard from previous moves. Within an hour and a half the crew had packed my full apartment, disassembled my furniture that I was not moving, loaded the truck, took everything to the dumpster that wasn't going to make the trek to the new home and cleaned up after themselves. They were efficient, respectful of my belongings and thorough. Through it all, I didn't have to lift a finger! When we arrived at the home about 45 minutes later, the team stopped in to understand the layout of the home and where they would be moving things. Just as quickly as they packed it, they unpacked the truck and disassembled the large wardrobe boxes they had provided and hung my clothes in my closet.They would have reassembled the furniture but we have some construction in the home right now and the rooms were not quite ready. They carefully found locations to store the furniture where it would be out of the way for the painters to finish their job next week and left everything wrapped for ease of repositioning later. Victor and I settled up at the end and again out of respect, he said I will let you do what you need to and meet you by the truck. The allowed me to get the cash sorted without anyone standing over me or feeling pressured. Much to my surprise, the final total came in under the estimated price - likely due to the speed and teamwork this crew was able to perform together and Victor was upfront and honest about the final total. A couple minutes after I confirmed all of my belongings had been removed from the truck and I locked the front door to begin unpacking, Victor rang the doorbell and said an extra $20 must have been stuck to their tip. What an honest and amazing gesture to let me know and come to return the overpayment. An overpayment well earned and I told him to keep it - I was so happy with everything he, Noe and Alfredo did for me. THE PROFESSIONALS MOVING SPECIALISTS HAVE PERFECTED THE MOVING PROCESS!!! I really cannot say enough about these guys! I wish I could give them more stars! After reading all the great reviews on yelp we thought it was too good to be true, but we ended up calling anyway, we went through the estimate process, answered some basic questions (addresses, contact info, inventory, etc). Carolyn explained the process from A to Z. She even went over the liability coverage, she gave me a breakdown of the rates (hourly and travel fee). She went over EVERYTHING that is included in the move. This is the only moving company that offers FREE TAPE for the whole move, out of all the local movers in Chicago that I called. All the others were charging $2.00-$3.50 per roll, and they use A LOT of tape!!! They also gave me tall hanging boxes for all my clothes, which was so nice because my wife has 3 closets full of hanging clothes, that we did not need to pack or do anything with really. They did it all! The hanging boxes were also FREE! After we hung up, I received the estimate within 30 minutes. I called 3 other movers and requested estimates from them as well. I heard back from 2 of the 3, but not until 24-48 hours after we spoke, and they were nowhere near as information and friendly as The Professionals. They truly live up to their name. Needless to say, I signed up with The Professionals Moving Specialists, for obvious reasons. Wait...it gets better! They estimated our move to take 4-5 hours with a 3 man crew (going from a 4th floor walk up to a elevator building on the 27th floor). Oscar our Forman called to let us know they're on the way. They were about 30 minutes early, dressed very well, all in uniform and very nice guys. I knew it was going to be a great move. Both my wife and I were pleased and happy with our decision and the move hadn't even started yet. Oscar came in, did an initial walk through to make sure that the estimate was not going to be off and to make sure the truck was a good size. He explained the liability coverage, same as Carolyn did. He told me that he would be recording the start and end time and that I would sign off on the bill of lading to verify. He asked me if I had any questions and they started. The entire move took 3.5 hours, no additional charges AT ALL. All of our furniture was wrapped with moving pads and they used tape to secure the pads. We used 7 wardrobe boxes, and we even had them pack 5 boxes with last minutes bathroom items using these green totes, AND they didn't charge us for them. He said "sometimes people have last minutes things to pack so we have extra boxes just in case". WOW!!! My wife and I were looking at each other the whole time and just smiling. Seriously, this was actually a very fun experience. We now know how a company can have so many wonderful reviews. I normally am not a review writing kind of guy, for one reason. Normally I don't have such a good experiance that I can write about, and I just get busy and never end up writing anything. I am writing this because I read other reviews here prior to enlisting their service, and it really helped. So, hopefully this review will assist someone else who is moving, and I beleive in rewarding those people/companies that do things the RIGHT way, they deserve it. so, on with my review. I was moving from w rogers park to east rogers park. This was my 5th move in 7 years, so, I was determined to do this move the RIGHT WAY, as opposed to the past, and that was just going wtih someone off of craigslist for cheap, or the cheapest quote. never again. I called and talked to Hila about my move and she was very helpful in forumulating an estimate. it arrived via email, and it looked good. not too cheap, but not overly expensive. we were moving from a 3rd floor condo building to another 3rd floor condo building, you know the chicago style condos with 3-4 units in them, narrow staircases in the back, thats our move. Long story short, lol..let me just get to it. I had a team of 3 guys. They arrived at 825, move was to start at 830, so they were right on time. The foreman was easy to communicate with, spoke fluent enough english to understand me and what we wanted. The other movers quickly started taping and wrapping everything that needed it. I said i am not going to be charged for all of this tape and wrap right? he said no, its all free. And it was. the only charge was for wrapping large items like coffee tables, couches, desks and mattresses. 10 bucks each, very reasonable. These guys worked their ass off, up and down up and down, wrapping, boxing stuff up, just hustling. they were very friendly, and if i needed a hand with something, or my wife did, they would stop and address our issue. they even helped us with some of our personal items to our jeep and not their truck. I was truly impressed by everything, and those that know me, Im not easily impressed, and very critical when it comes to this type of thing,. ESPECIALLY if your company name is 'the professionals". you better be professional. thats exactly what they were. at the end of the day we finished the entire move of our 3br's 3 baths by 230. total was 700 bucks including tip. I reccomend them highly, look no further, dont shop around, just call and ask for Hila, and hire them. not one thing was scuffed, or broke, or missing, they box things for you, tape and wrap them really good, help you unload and unpack and just do a great job. most movers have a "racket" going on by charging for extra boxes, or tape, or wasting time to run up your costs, etc. any questions, send me email. Update to original post on April 16. The Professionals Moving Specialists' customer service department called me the day I posted my review to address my concerns. We had a very productive discussion. All of my concerns were addressed to my satisfaction. The Professionals Moving Specialists take pride in ensuring that customers are satisfied by following up with their clients and working to resolve any outstanding issues. I feel at ease knowing how much of an emphasis The Professionals Moving Specialists place on making the customer feel like they are getting the best service possible. ___________________________________________________________ I used this company for a local move. I moved from one 1-br to another 1-br and made a stop at a storage facility to pick up additional items. Overall the move was adequate, but there were two areas of concern that have been bothering me since the move. 1) In every previous move I made I was told to stuff as many clothes as possible in to my furniture drawers. In anticipation of this move I filled my drawers with clothes, but was told by my movers that the drawers would need to be emptied. I was very skeptical of this considering what I had been told in the past. The movers ended up putting all of my clothes in boxes. This meant that I had to pay for extra materials and that it took the movers more time to load/unload all of the additional boxes. I felt that this was ploy to lengthen the move time and force me to purchase extra material. 2) While were at the storage facility the lead mover informed me that he had left his paperwork on the loading dock of my old apartment building. He asked "Can you do me a favor and go back and look for it?" which I did. By doing this 'favor' I didn't arrive at my new apartment until after the movers, so there was a delay in starting to move things in to my new place. When the lead mover gave me the receipt he quoted me the time inclusive of the delay at my new place. I stated "We were delayed because you left something at the old place" after a few minutes of back and fourth he reduced the time to account for the delay. Not sure if that was another ploy to pad the time. Overall - the move was just OK. The packer who was in my bedroom was very slow. They could have done a better job of divvying out packing responsibility, like having 2 people pack the kitchen to get it done faster. What was estimated to be a 5 hour job ended up taking 8 hours, and my high-end estimate was $500 less than what I ended up paying (probably because of all of the extra boxes I had to pay for to move my clothes). The move was exceptional and I am still impressed with the service received from start to finish. The customer service representative was Shifra and she was incredible. She was so patient with me as I asked her multiple questions regarding the estimate, items to be moved and other details. I had a ton of stuff, lots of antiques and a large amount of very huge, heavy furniture pieces. After emailing Shifra many times it was decided that due to the large amount of furniture and items to be moved it would take 6 men and 2 trucks, which sounded about right to me. She was so polite, patient and understanding as the move had me frazzled due to the large amount of stuff I had to move. She communicated excellently and confirmed the day and time the movers would arrive. The movers arrived a little early and they were fantastic. The lead mover was named Victor and the other movers were Marcos, Jose, Alkin, Valentin and Lucio. This team of movers worked like a well oiled machine. They arrived in the house and immediately went to work. Victor walked through the house with me, which was a 2 story house with a basement, garage and backyard items as well. Did I have the stuff! Victor made sure he understood exactly what was to be moved and then the team worked like crazy. They quickly went through the house and moved everything safely covering much of it in rolls of stretch plastic wrap, moving pads and tape. They were all polite and very pleasant while they worked non stop. They filled both trucks and then we headed to the new house. When they arrived they safely and quickly unloaded every piece asking exactly where it should be placed. After everything was unloaded Victor asked if anything else needed to be moved around the house and if all the furniture was placed correctly. I have no idea how they did it but they moved me from a house totally packed with stuff to my new house all within 4 hours and 20 minutes. The attention to detail was incredible and I felt so confident with this exceptional team of great movers. The icing on the cake was that the actual charges were significantly less than the original estimate. Who ever heard of movers charging much LESS than they originally quoted. I was so totally impressed with this moving service from start to finish and would highly recommend them without any reservation for anyone interested in a safe, friendly, professional move at a very fair price. Yelp and my best friend's Facebook group were good sources of word-of-mouth recommendations for my recent (2/11/17) move. Several people said the Professionals were great, so I decided to see for myself. Wow! Am I ever impressed! I filled out the online form, or did my best to make sure the estimate could be as complete as possible. There are some furnishings not listed on the form, but perhaps I missed it. Either way, like clockwork the next morning Lupe called me to go over the estimate. It sounded very reasonable, so I told her to go ahead and schedule something for me. That was also quick and seamless - I received an email confirmation shortly after, and the estimate was, again, reasonable. The good thing is that I moved from an elevator building to an elevator building, but I warned that my couch was too long to fit in either elevator, so the movers would have to use the stairs. Everything yesterday could not have been smoother. The moving team lead - Miguel - called me about 30 minutes prior to arrival and then again right when they arrived. (I should say, too, that I paid $60 for The Professionals to handle the no parking zone things at my old and my new place - totally worth it.) After they arrived, Miguel came up to check on everything, and then their "magic" began. I have never seen people move so swiftly *and* carefully. They took such great care with everything, from the glass shelving in my credenza to the marble top of my end table and the wall hangings. They even were able to disassemble and perfectly reassemble my bed, which has an under-mounted drawer. The wardrobe boxes were a godsend, as were their extra supplies (I ended up needing an extra box even though I had done most boxing ahead of time). There were four total in the crew - Miguel, Lino, Felipe and one other (I think Jose, but I didn't catch his name). They were so nice, courteous and careful not only with my things but with the walls and door frames of the buildings. The piece de resistance? The total cost was $10 less than the estimate; I thought for sure I would have gone over. Thanks so much to the Professionals for the extra-professional pre-move service and scheduling and for sending such a great team of people to help me with this big move. I was contacted by phone 2 days in advance of my move, to confirm the date and start time. Everything was arranged--the only hiccup was a forecast of rain on the morning I needed to move. I hoped the weather would not be too severe, but forty-five minutes before the movers were due to arrive, the sky went dark and it started pouring rain. Multiple storm drains clogged around my apartment, flooding the curbsides, and the torrent coming down from the sky was drenching. I did not have a huge quantity of items to move, but I was very worried my assortment of boxes and furniture would sustain severe water damage. I worried also that the movers might be late due to the weather, or that I would have to postpone my move altogether due to the logistics of moving in such bad weather. But the 3 movers from The Professionals showed up exactly on time. They discussed with me the scope of my possessions, and the best way to move them given the weather. They then proceeded to load my boxes and furniture into their truck with consummate speed and professionalism, wrapping multiple items in blankets and plastic to ensure they would not be damaged by water or a bumpy transit. They navigated the large puddles around the clogged curbside storm drains, carrying everything and making sure nothing was splashed or soaked. They also handled well the obstacle of my apartment staircase (2 flights) being poorly lit, as the timer-set stairwell lights had switched off for the day, but the rain clouds were so thick that the natural light from the stairwell windows was very dim. Admittedly as I said previously, I did not have a large quantity of items to move. But I was still very impressed that everything was wrapped and safely loaded into the moving truck in approx. 30 minutes. The movers then met me in the alley behind my new home (about a 15 minute drive from my old one) and brought everything up to my new apartment with speed and efficiency. From start to finish, they moved everything in less than 90 minutes. And aside from the inevitable rain spatter on some uncovered plastic/laminated/metal items (easily cleaned off) nothing was adversely affected by the torrential downpour, or otherwise damaged in transit. I can not say enough great things about the Professionals. I would give them more than 5 stars if I could. I used them 8 years ago to move from my 3 story townhome in Palatine to my 6th floor condo (there was an elevator) in Logan Square and they did such an amazing job that my husband and I used them again to move from our condo to our house last weekend. We had accumulated a lot of stuff over the years and filled up their entire truck, but they managed to get it all to fit and all of our belongings were delivered in great shape. Our house is about 100 years old, so Jorge and his team had the additional challenge of navigating large pieces of furniture up and around very narrow staircases. We had some very large and heavy pieces and ended up with a couple of scratches on the hand rail in the stairwell but I was so impressed with the fact that they got our heavy and large dressers and cabinets up the stairs that I didn't even care. An easy fix if you ask me. If my husband and I tried doing this move ourselves (or with friends) our newly remodeled home would have been destroyed. Jorge and his team were magicians. They were also super helpful, friendly, careful, honest and quick. I highly recommend requesting them if possible. One other thing that helped with our move was renting the green boxes. What a fantastic program! Super sturdy, no taping, no assembling, no trash, and no crushed boxes. I did the math on the cost of boxes, tape, packing materials, and time, and the green box program turned out to be a wash, if not a better deal than buying your own boxes. Also, you don't have the guilt of cardboard waste and the chore of breaking down the boxes. The Professionals drop the boxes off and pick them up at your convenience. We ended up renting 45 boxes thinking that would be plenty for a 2 bedroom condo, but we were sorely mistaken (we had the "luxury" of lots of storage space and utilized it all) so we did end up purchasing some cardboard boxes for the remaining items we had, but it all worked out. So if you decide to rent the green boxes, you're probably going to think "that's a lot", but I'm pretty confident you'll use all of them and may even find yourself in need of more, so don't freak out about thinking you may have rented too many.
