We went with a group of six of us and we're able to get in on a Saturday without an issue. I'm a big dip sandwich fan and they did not disappoint here with the Welch dip. Had a great experience here on a Saturday night. They had live music which is always fun! We sat at the bar. The bartender was busy but still attentive. We tired a couple different beers then made our decision. We ordered the fish and chips and the Gouda chicken pasta and shared both. Both dishes were great! The fish and chips were huge! Our dinner here last night was pretty good. It wasn't busy and we were able to order right away. I decided on the Pub Fish sandwich. My husband ordered the Fish & Shrimp. My step-daughter ordered the BBQ Burger and her boyfriend ordered the Chicken Gouda Pasta. The guys also ordered a couple of beers and I got an Old Fashioned. I found the fish sandwich to be really good. I don't know that it's award winning quality, as the menu states, but it's tasty. The fish breading is crispy and the fish soft and flaky. The red onion adds great flavor to the fish. The tartar sauce was ok, although a bit bland. The fries were decent. Fairly standard but prepared well. Everyone else at the table said that they enjoyed the food and the beer. My old fashioned was a bit overly sweet. The Pub at Rookwood is in an unfortunate location. Located just on the outer perimeter of the big Rookwood shopping center in a nook barricaded from the closest real city street by Redlands Grill and a tall office building, The Pub is a place that you wouldn't really happen to just come upon when you're hungry. We sought this place out because AMEX is doing a support small business promotion and it popped up on their small businesses list. That being said it does seem like a chain with locations from southwest Ohio to Nashville and in Florida. The British comfort food menu also drew us. As soon as I walked in I was pretty awed by the architecture. It definitely already looks like a British pub from the outside but they went all out with the inside. Really gives everything just a sturdy, historical feel where you don't really have to think about anything going on in the outside world. We were allowed to seat ourselves wherever and everything was nicely spaced for COVID-19 and we were waited upon rapidly. Happy hour is 3pm-7pm and had $5 beer and $5.50 appetizers. The appetizers in the promotion only included the Dirty Fries, Buffalo Chicken Flatbread, and one other appetizer that I do not remember. The waitress was the star of the show. First off, she wore a kilt which I don't know if all waitresses did that but it does keep that British theme. The fiancee asked her about some beer stuff and she was quite knowledgeable. And when the beer she had ordered was unavailable, she came back with a sample of a different beer with similar taste. We got the Dirty Fries appetizer. The fries were cooked perfectly. The bacon, cheddar, scallions were generously overlaid. Maker's Mark BBQ sauce was a bit too sweet for me though. My fiancee ordered the Shepherd's Pie. The pie itself was everything you could ask for. Toasted layer of mashed potatoes on top, quality beef. The other half of the plate was a spring mix salad which unfortunately contained an old rotting strand of leaf. I asked the waitress to help me decide between the Countryside Chicken plate (buttermilk fried chicken, smoked gouda mac & cheese, accent salad) and the Crispy Chicken sandwich (buttermilk fried chicken, maple pepper bacon, swiss, lettuce, tomato, spicy dill, ciabatta roll). She surprisingly recommended the cheaper sandwich so I went with that. I would say almost every component of the sandwich was perfect. The bacon was thick cut and not crisped into oncogenic ash. The ciabatta was soft. My main drawback was the chicken itself. I think because of the bacon, sauce, and other components of the sandwich, the chicken was under-seasoned. I don't think it needed anything crazy but maybe just salt and pepper or just a kick of spiciness on the chicken would have elevated the whole sandwich. At the end the waitress was able to split our bill with no problem (to maximize that AMEX small business promotion) and refilled my water. It's the little things when it comes to service and I could not ask for more. Even with the couple things that could be improved, the filling comfort food, the astounding service, and the atmosphere just made everything wonderful. We would definitely come back to try more of the menu. read more

A tale of two cities, no not the Dickensian novel but my experience after a visit to the Pub at Rookwood. They have tried, a bit, to make it feel a pub from Charing cross or Piccadilly or somewhere else in London, from the Black cab parked in the car park to the really fake looking red telephone box, but inside it's a bit of a mish mash - from the unthemed artwork on the walls, pictures of Olde English stuff to the Guinness mirrors and Titanic posters. Then there are the short tartan skirts the bar staff and (some) of the waitresses wear. So I'm not sure if it's supposed to be English, Irish or Scottish - I guess they just thought "well they're all pretty close so we'll just mash them all together." But by far the most obvious thing about this place is the actual bar. Not quite sure what shape it is - maybe Hexagonal ? Maybe Heptagonal, it's some sort of irregular polygon anyway. But it's a big wooden stained glass bar and very hard to squeeze into a space at the bar when it's busy due to the odd angles and columns. The food is what you'd expect of an English pub - fish and chips. Shepherds pie, Bangers and mash etc - but they have omitted the U.Ks national dish - Chicken Tikka Massala !!!! Come on guys you can't have a british menu without CTM ! So although I wouldn't make a special trip to visit the Pub. If you are in the area the Bar staff are great and they have some great beers on tap including Guinness of course, Smithwicks, Fullers ESB and Old Speckled hen. read more

Great little place tucked in behind Redlands in the Rookwood complex. We were there on a Friday night. A little noisy due to traditional pub atmosphere. I had a 4 beer (5 oz.) flight which was great. We also shared some fried pickle spears (so-so) I also had potato soup and chili-both were very good. My entree was fish and chips. Wow--the filet was huge! Actually had to take some home. Our seasoned server (Tanita) was fantastic--attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and restaurant. Overall, a very pleasant experience and we hope to return. read more

I've been a fan of the entire Pub group for years. This morning, Nick Sanders and his staff knocked it out of the park in recognition of THE queen's funeral. Worth the 3 1/2 hr drive to eat here. Seen a tik tok review from a British woman and knew we had to make the drive to try it. We got the fried pickles for a starter and they were the best fried pickles we've ever gotten anywhere. My husband & son both got their award winning fish & chips and I got the bangers & mash. I came to the Pub for my final burger during burger week. They were offering a Gobsmacked Gouda burger. It had Gouda Mac and fried jalapeño slices. It was ok, definitely not the burger I would have chosen to end my amazing burger week. The burger was well done and the burger needed sauce of some sort. So I asked for mayo which helped. We sat at the bar and received good service. The pub is nothing special, yes definitely gives off the pubby vibe with all the wood paneling and different collection of chairs and such. But their food is nothing to write home about. Not sure I'll be rushing back for food anytime soon, but they did have a great bar and staff, for that I would return. read more

I've been to this place a few times over the years and it's always been a pleasant experience! The restaurant itself is very cool. There is a giant bar in the middle and a few tables around. All the tables have different, old/vintage seats and are very unique. But, it can get busy as there isn't much seating inside and a lot of table are made for large parties. The food here is the best in town if you want English pub food. Everytime I crave fish and chips in cincy I come here! Tonight we got the classic fish & chips and their Young's bbq burger. The fish was nice and flaky and it was a BIG piece as well. The chips and coleslaw were lackluster but I wasn't too picky since I really only cared about the fish. The burger was amazing!! The sauce and onions were really good and was smothered over the entire plate. My friend also got a Black and Tan beer. Super good and the pour ratio was great! Service can be a bit slow here for some reason, but all the waitresses are really nice! The Pub! Your massiveness always intrigued me when I drove through Rookwood Commons, but never went through it, until Friday. I met a couple of friends for Happy hour to usher in the St. Patrick's weekend. And for some random reason, we chose this very British looking, British decor, Britain flag and everything place. The place is huge and you don't really have to hassle for parking here. The ambience is very eccentric, fusing the classic pieces of UK elegance and American pub scenes. Why? We never understand. Maybe we'd have to experience brunch or lunch to see that side of the Pub. We got some apps and a drink each, because we are responsible, we don't drink and drive. They have a LOT of alcohol in stock and many beers on tap. To celebrate St. Patrick's, I stuck to Guinness. And it looked so frothy, smooth and delicious. Food? The chicken wings were meh. Like genuinely meh. The beer fried mushrooms and onions rings were good, but I wasn't a fan of that horseradish dip. Guinness was good as always! My complain- the service needs to be better. Oh how I wish we'd gone somewhere else. Anywhere else. I got the country chicken- the accent salad was the best part. The chicken was greasy with soggy breading and absolutely no flavor. The mac and cheese left a terrible taste in my mouth - I love Gouda cheese. How do you mess mac and cheese up? You have to work hard to do that!! The noodles on top had no sauce and were tough. The fish and chips were decent. The tartar sauce saved it. Barely. Still super greasy with a heavy floppy coating on it. Not crisp at all. The food wasn't the worst part. I watched the cook use his BARE hands to finger grab chips to put on someone's plate. I looked over and saw no gloves whatsoever. And then I saw a server also bare handed, grab lemon slices from the bar and place on a plate to take to a customer. The condiments on the table are pretty disgusting, greasy and sticky. What an authentic little place. I went in expecting it to be a "sports bar" and boy was I surprised when I walked into what seemed to be an English time capsule. The wood work, the bar, the entire visual aesthetic reminded me of my travels abroad. I was delightfully pleased. The service was awesome and the food and drink options far surpassed your typical sports bar menu. I've had the travel bug lately so this was a good "getaway within the city limits. As an added bonus they have Japanese whiskey and they pour generously. It's great for individuals and groups and there are tons of sporting events on TV if you are interested. Friday, Jan 26 my brother and I went to the pub for dinner. I had the fried chicken dinner. When it arrived I was very surprised at what I was seeing. KFC is well known for giving their customers the smallest pieces of chicken in the world but they would feel shame and embarrassment if they gave anyone what I received. Live and learn, I felt that I ordered it so I ate it. Then, I ordered the fish dinner since I didn't feel like I had eaten anything at all. We didn't see our server much while we were there so I stopped another server and described the chicken dinner. The chicken was two pieces of flat boneless chicken meat about 3/8" thick and about the same size as my two year old grandson's hand. I was told, it sounds like they had given me the chicken from a couple of sliders instead of the chicken breasts. That sounds about right and it's even more pathetic that they have an employee working in the kitchen who would mistake two chicken sliders in an order for a Fried Chicken Dinner. So then, our server brought our bills and we each paid with a brand new $25.00 Gift Card and a credit card to cover the balance. After he brought our credit cards back we noticed we both still owed the full amount. We asked someone to find him and tell him we needed to talk to him. We were told that he said he was too busy. So, this person asked what we wanted to talk to him about and we explained. Then he came and told us that each of our Gift Cards rang up for only .01 cent and he didn't return the Gift Cards. He said, he was too busy to tell us about it so he charged each of our credit cards for the full amount. My best guess is, he was planning to keep the $50 in Gift Cards as part of his tip. The next day, I contacted The Pub with the contact button on their website. I explained our experience on the previous evening. It's been almost 3 weeks since I contacted them and they have never bothered to respond. Update; Shannon, from Pub Guest Management responded that I should send an email with more info because my web response was never received. I responded directly to the email given. It's been more than 3 weeks with no response from Shannon. I need to remove the 1 star that I gave, this place is even more pathetic than I thought. read more

Love The Pub! I've never been a "do things alone" kind of gal, but I stopped in here on a whim to actually watch the Arsenal match instead of following on Twitter. Ended up having a great time and enjoyed my first Scotch egg (I hear there are several varieties) and lamb burger. Both were excellent. A flight of IPA's rounded out the meal/visit. Like a lot of restaurant experiences, it's only as good as the service. I went on a Sunday, enjoyed my food and the service was stellar. Returned the next day and my server was the worst! I sat for 15 mins before my order was taken and it wasn't busy. My food came out before my drink. The server was very inattentive. I sat even longer for my check. Went out for a friend's pre-wedding celebration. We got to sit at two super awesome looking tables in a little area near the bar. Service was good. I wish I could say I remember what I ordered and that the food was amazing, but while I do remember thinking the food was good, I don't remember details- hence four stars rather than five. The bar menu was interesting, and it was a pleasant experience. I'd absolutely go back if I had a reason to do so. I will warn for anyone just putting this place into GPS - it's tucked away and not all that easy to find directly. It's near the Commons, but in a back corner around the outside. We were promptly greeted by friendly staff and had a wonderful server who was appropriately attentive and helpful. We came for the fish and chips and it was superb! My Mom ordered the large haddock and said it was excellent. I brought 2 more nicely packed and presented dinners home for family and they offered excellent reviews. I ordered the pot roast based on reviews and it was very good. It is worth navigating Rookwood to find this gem. We came here on a Friday with a larger group and got a nice big table. The waiter was very attentive the entire night and even gave some recommendations. I tried various draft beers which were all good. For food I ordered the Shepherds pie which was delicious. It had a unique mix of beef and lamb base in a generous and rich portion with a nice little side salad included for balance. Several friends had burgers or fish fry which they said was good. We all shared an app of the naughty chips (which are actually fries) which were to die for. Tried a friends fried pickles which were good.
