Best burger of my life-- you have to get the horseradish bacon sauce. The fries are also out of this world. Fabulous staff!

As with any pub establishment you primarily are judged on two things Beer and Pub snacks. As a Belgian Pub establishment you these metrics translate to an extensive Beer list on one end [Publick house - check], Frites, and any dish that has the word "Belgian" preceding it [Publick house - check]. Staff understood the Beer list and had ability to give suggestions as needed [check], food was served at moderate pace. Outside seating was pleasant [however you need to order food is you plan on this]. Overall A-ok. Reason for two star was the food was mediocre. Frites are served with two dipping sauces, taste is fine, but unfortunately the fries are cut too short to enjoy them until you scoop them onto a plate with a fork which I only got because I had a second dish. The Brussels sprouts are battered and fried rather than crispy fried as described on the menu and it's just not working. It's not easy getting the consistency of a dish that deals with two mediums [steaming surrounds sprout with water, frying evaporates it] and these two were not meshing up, it tasted wet. Also the bacon-horseradish aioli does nothing to cut up the fat or flavor the batter wraps the sprouts in. My coworkers impression of the Belgian meatballs was bland. Overall - make sure you come with good company, as the rest is rest is just fine. read more

As a vegetarian, I'm never dreaming of a burger, but every now and again I have this insane craving for pub food which typically means a solid veggie burger. Now, let me say, a veggie burger to me should be homemade because I can just toss a Morningstar patty on the grill or in the oven and call it a day. When these cravings come to me, I am talking huge, thick and juicy. *[get your mind out of the gutter, guys!]* After running from one side of the city to the other, I was expressing my hankering to a pal, and he said, I know the place. So, we called a Lyft and in no time we were whisked away to The Publick House. Upon our arrival, I was pleased that they had loads of sports broadcasted throughout the restaurant: golf and soccer, and they were playing music, too. The music was a wee bit too loud, but other than that, no real complaints. I browsed the menu and naturally settled on the veggie burg and a cider to wash it down. I could hardly wait for my meal to come. The anticipation was rising high and the next thing I knew *cue trumpets* it arrived! This veggie burger was looking flier than can be and is stacked about a mile high. They are not playing around here. The burger is made with shaved carrot, green peas, zucchini, cumin, fresh cilantro. I am telling you this was a double fisting type situation. You really had to manhandle this burger or it was going to fall apart. The problem- now, I've had an awesome homemade veggie burger, but it's not in my backyard. Now every veggie burg will be compared to this one. The upside- I had an amazing veggie burger that I tell everyone about when I find out they are going to Boston. *The Veggie Burger is 5+ Stars. The service was okay, we asked our waitress for the beer menu to order more drinks, and 15 minutes later she came back-- it was slow and we decided, meh, let's leave. Also the music is loud. You'd have a hard time finding a comparable venue that serves any where near an equivalent selection of Belgian or Belgian style beers in America. Yes, a bold statement. Food is what I would describe as "Top of the line bar food". Yes, it may be mac and cheese, or fish and chips, but I'll be damned if they don't do their best to make it the best you've ever had. Atmosphere is dark, woody, and inviting. Staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful in discussing beers and helping with selections. Prices do not feel out of place for the food, beer, or location. It may be a little out of the way for some tourists, but it's worth it if you like good beer, good food, and a good atmosphere. read more

Went with a large group of about 12 on a weekday. There was room for us all to sit together even though they don't take reservations. We could probably have snagged a couple tables in the bar area but we went for the restaurant instead. The atmosphere was really cool. It felt modern but and also traditional. It was a bit dark with dark wood everywhere but that's good. This place has an EXTENSIVE a beer selection and all 10 other people I went with were happy with their choices. We for the fries as an appetizer and all the dipping sauces were pretty good. The Brussels sprouts were bread crumbed and fried which was ok, but I would have preferred roasted. I got the Mac n cheese with asparagus. It was so delicious that I wanted to eat it all but it was just so filing that I couldn't. One friend got the mussels and was disappointed because the mussel meat was lacking and there were so many add ins, when she really just wanted mussels. Additionally be careful of the Siracha (sp?) wings... They'll get you! Regardless, I would definitely go back. read more

Publick House is one of my go-to's for a nice dinner with bf and when friends visit. It usually starts to get crowded around 6pm so either go early or be willing to wait for at least 45 minutes. Even longer wait with a big group, of course (once I waited almost 2 hours on a Saturday night). The food is superb and generously portioned. The mussels entree is my favorite. I've had Pots 2, 3, and 4. All three are delicious and each has its unique flavor. I always pack the broth home to make a pasta meal (no shame!!). Fish and chips, mac and cheese, and Publick House burger are also great choices. I have yet to try their ribs which look really yummy. They also have a pretty intense drink menu for those who are interested. I'm boring so I haven't tried that many. All in all, the perfect place for a nice dinner, drinks, and late night. read more

The beer is as good as it gets. There are places with more taps, but the curation is excellent. Just as importantly, the staff is knowledgeable and can help you find something great if you need. Really good food, too. Some of my favorites: sriracha Buffalo wings, steak frites, the Moules Frites, and of course the burger and chicken sandwiches. read more

Put simply, this place rocks! Soon after the COVID lockdown started I was still able to get some of their stellar beer offerings by regularly getting a growler refilled at their 'pop-up' window. Takeout favorites during the lockdown were the fries for the whole family (taking turns dipping them in the garlic-asiago mayo and the truffle ketchup) the P-House Burger and the Mac & Cheese for the kids. I just want to say that every time I have gone here the food and beer selection is awesome! Publicly house is a really good restaurant. It does get very busy but that's because it's a awesome Belgium beer and craft beer restaurant. I also did leave my phone at a booth one day after dinner, and thanks to the host who went to check on the table after we left found my cell phone!! Food was really good! Highly recommend the tacos and chicken wings to start. Chicken sandwich was also delicious.

My family of 4 arrived at about 7:15 for dinner, and were told there was a 45 minute wait. We were seated in less than 1/2 hour, which was great. The bouncer at the door was very friendly, and he was so kind to our kids even though it was mostly a bar/young adult crowd. Our server was attentive, but did not know the menu well. We ordered the charcuterie plate to start, and he did not know what the meats were that were served with the order. There was one meat that we really did not like, and he could not tell us what it was even by the end of the meal. My son and I ordered the mac and cheese with short ribs. Nice, smoky cheese with orchiette pasta made for an adult mac and cheese. It all tasted really good. My daughter ordered the wings which she also loved. My husband and I ordered the Le Seul beer, which was wonderfully tart and fruity. All in all a good experience and I would return when we are in the area again. read more

Love this bar with an AMAZING beer selection right in Washington Sq. My boyfriend and I go often because we know they always have Trillium on tap (yum yum yum) and let us sample a few beers before committing to a whole pint! The bartenders are always friendly, too which scores big points for me! We have yet to eat here, although the food everyone else has always looks delicious and I have heard nothing but good things. Today we tried to go to the publick house to have a drink. One of our friend ask for a table and the host guy explain to us that we need to order food if we want to have a table outside. Our friend comes out to inform us and we discuss about how to proceed. We finally decide to sit there and at the same time that my friend is going back to tell him we will take the table the girls ( my 2 friends and I a 38 week pregnant women ) sat at the table. That's when this host guy literally came out and started being really rude with my friend saying we can't have this behavior and sit like that... his behavior was really not acceptable. The drama went on so they seated a party of 3 INCOMPLETE at the table after he had told us we can't sit without a completed party. This is bull**** and it took already too much of my time. Let me tell you, this place has an amazing selection of beers. I especially enjoyed the petrus. We were able to find seats at the bar while we waited for a table. I can see why this place was busy, it has a great atmosphere, great menu, and like I said great beer list. My friends live within walking distance so they come often and raves about the Mac and cheese so of course I had to get it. I got mine with broccoli, tomatoes and scallops. And it was pretty good! The Mac & cheese was creamy and made to perfection. I think if I ever am in the area again I'd get it without the tomatoes (really want to try it with roasted garlic!), I love tomatoes but maybe not my favorite mix with the Mac and cheese. Upon returning to my hometown of Brookline last year I had to check out the venue, which is when I learned it had changed names. I must say the new place was wonderful. Our bartender was cool and chatty. The Publick House has an amazing selection of beers on tap or in bottles. Food was terrific; we had an order of chicken wings that were succulent. If you are reading reviews and debating whether or not to go to Publick House, you can stop now. It is absolutely worth going (and is worth the wait, if there is one. Though you can also just try and snag a seat at the bar and eat dinner there!) First of all, their beer list is phenomenal (and rotating, so there is often something different to sample each time you go!). They don't do flights or pitchers, but they always let you try a beer before you order it. They seem to always have Trillium and Allagash beers on tap, which is a treat. Then there is the food. The mussels are good, and the frites are pretty tasty (especially with the various accompanying sauces), but the real show stoppers are the burger and the skillet mac-and-cheese. Imagine all the best toppings for your burger and mix-ins for your mac. Caramelized onion? Bring it on. Braised beef short rib? Yes please. I always want to try new things on their menu, but when it comes down to it, I almost always order one of these two dishes. All the yum. read more

This was the perfect place to end a weekend in Boston. It's nice and dark and gives off a good "pub" vibe. From what I have heard this is a great place to come and get some drinks on the weekend. If you do like beer, I highly recommend Allagash's beer. They don't serve it back in Florida, so it was a nice treat to have it there. For dinner we had the fish and chips, they were really good. Now that I live in Somerville, one of the things I miss most about Brighton/Brookline is Publick House. They always have an awesome selection of beers, and their food is great too. The chicken wings are top notch, and the macaroni and cheese is amazing. You can choose a variety of add-ins, and it comes out piping hot in a little skillet. The mussels are delicious--I like the white wine broth or the Allagash broth. Their specials are always a good option too. My only quibble with this place is that they added a TV a few years ago, so now it does turn into a sports bar of sorts during big games. It gets really crowded on the weekends, so get there early. read more

I wish I could relive eating this for the first time...forever. Friend #1 "I got the steak frites. It was ordered medium and came perfectly prepared. Publick House has a really cool vibe and an even better menu selection! The inside of the restaurant looks like an old church, with seats that look like pews and medieval looking lanterns. My mom and I split the turkey burger (with caramelized onions) and the crab cake sandwich. Both were delicious, but the crab cake was our favorite. We will definitely be back to try the famous mac & cheese (that looked amazing) and to grab a couple of beers. read more

This is really 3.5 stars...Came here for dinner with my parents on a busy Friday night. Cool ambiance but WAY too loud to hear each other over dinner. The mac n' cheese was pretty average honestly -- very very rich and I didn't find the flavor super exciting (w/andouille sausage/peas). Maybe another flavor is better? The Monk's frites were pretty soft (vs crispy like I like them). I think the ideal way to come to this place is (1) On a week night when it's not so busy/LOUD; (2) come and sit in the bar at the back (quieter, cool vibe, SO MANY craft beers); (3) Come for the beer selection -- what this place is known for! This place epitomizes everything about what it means to be a good restaurant/bar. We've lived in the neighborhood for almost a year now, and we have frequented this establishment far more times than any other. That is because of the value they offer, and the environment they offer it in. You will not find an unhelpful host, waiter, bartender, etc. They all have an exceptional working knowledge of the menu, and the vast array of beers that are available. They are kind people who care, and are able to make us feel at ease. The environment allows for many people to enjoy this place without being in each other's way/space. Superb table layout.. I always try new beers, but I tend to order the same food: either the mac n' cheese, or the veggie burger. There are many topping options for these items, and I always get a fried egg on either one :-) I am a veggie burger connoisseur; I have tasted quite a few in my day. This place makes the best veggie burger I could possibly conceive of. You can't find better fries elsewhere. They recently changed chefs and I was thrilled to find that the recipe has not been altered ;-) My girlfriend eats meat, and has enjoyed everything she's ordered, from Steak to Mussels to Chicken to Short Rib to Fish n' Chips. A true gem in Washington Square. Moules frites, wings, mac and cheese are all wonderful. The beer selection is actually very well curated, not just a large number of beers thrown together for the sake of a large beer list. Pick up in COVID-times has been really smooth and we've been glad we can still support them. Only complaint we've ever had was that coming with a child in a stroller was surprisingly difficult. There is enough space, but the hostess seemed reluctant to put us at some of the open tables and would only put us right in the middle of the floor, which we had to wait for. Its a nice looking bar. It wasn't busy. I got the steak frites and it was disgusting af. It was bland except for the overwhelming taste of salt. The fries that came with it were also extremely salty,burnt, n dry. I asked fir extra ketcup thinking it would help.Worst meal ever. I shouldve asked them to take it back.the only reason they get 2 stars is bc the waiter was nice (although he sat us in a bad location and offered another couple sgter us better seating) and my boyfriend had the duck confit which was actually good. You know, a lot of my friends hate coming to Brookline. What a bunch of jerks, I know. However, whenever The Publick House is mentioned, the chances of them visiting rise dramatically. This place is a local gem and when you visit, it's obvious why. There's so much to love about it: the beer selection (oh em gee), the staff (super friendly), the space, and the food. For someone who is very indecisive and hates options (me), the beer list is a total nightmare, but for someone who is a complete beer lover (also me, hi), the beer list is incredible. The frites are heaven in potato form - get them. There are days where I go and pass on the frites to try something new and I always regret it. Not that the other options are bad, but the frites are just....*drools* So, I guess this really could have been summarized with: Beer = great, Food = great, Staff = great, Space = great, Location = great (in my opinion), and I need new friends.
