I moved to Astoria in August 2009 and was lucky enough to discover The Quays soon thereafter. Let me start by saying that this is, by far, the friendliest bar I've ever been to. It has the feel of a truly authentic Irish Pub and the bartenders go out of their way to learn and remember your name. The price point is unbeatable; just about everything at the bar is around $4, with $2 Coors light pints. Also, every third drink is free, but in reality free drinks usually come much more frequently than that. It can be crowded on a Saturday night, but it is still a great place to go to see live music. Trivia with Sean on Sundays is always a good time as well. They have other events throughout the week that I haven't been to yet, too. I live 15 blocks from The Quays and will gladly trek there in all weather to enjoy the great atmosphere, friendly staff, and drinks priced low enough that you can drink all night for under $20. If you haven't been to The Quays yet then you are doing yourself a disservice. read more

Ahh The Quays. What is there to say that hasn't been said? You step off the streets of Astoria and enter any Irish village pub. They pour a Guinness like no other, your third round on the house, and I'll be damned if I'll ever turn down a shot of Jameson here. PBR and High Life is also available if yer feelin low on the funds or just want a few simpler beers. I drank here on my 26th birthday, one of the bartenders broke out his guitar and sang to me, and I don't know much how I got home. Success. read more

Love this place! Super chill, non pretentious and they have both a dartboard and bookshelves! Great place for a low-key drink on a weeknight or a busier crowd to meet some folks on the weekend. The Quays might be my favorite bar in Astoria, which is a neighborhood filled with great bars. Everything everyone has mentioned is true. This place is authentic. It is filled with friendly people. The buybacks are incredible. As a musician, I love playing here. Everyone is incredibly supportive, even people who I'd expect to try to give me a good beating (my stage act is a bit odd). It is always a party at this place. I really can't think of a place I'd rather go to just have a good drink, or to get good and stanko, whether for a low-key night or a party. My only regret: I live about 30 minutes by foot from this place and it's pretty distant vis-a-vis any mass transit. The closest subway is at least 15 minutes away. read more

I do like the atmosphere. The bartenders are always personable. The beers are typically fixed priced 7-8 for a pint. No food is a bummer. No IPA's is a bummer. sounds like I don't like the place but I really do. It is a very chill bar, but the glass/wood partitions are horrible. Makes it so you can't talk to people around the bar which isn't even very large. They need to get rid of the partitions... Period. read more

Just a great watering hole. Not a sports bar, a fake hooters, a bar that tries to be a restaurant or a big scene. It's a BAR, where people talk, joke and drink. There doesn't seem to be too many of these left. I confirm - every 3rd is on the house. read more
