Have been visiting the Queen Mary for years. There is so much history with it, but it is also a contemporary attraction for those in Southern California. The Queen Mary was an old passenger ship who was brought into world war 2 seeing the allies. Eventually, after being decommissioned, it was bid on, and won, by the city of Long Beach and now is a staple in the area. You can visit the ship for tours, from historical to haunted locations, eat at a variety of restaurants, drink at bars, it just explore the who on your own. It is also a hotel, is a filming location, hosts different events throughout the year from Haunted maze rooms during Halloween, New Years Eve party on the ship and others throughout the year. It is a piece of history but also is modern application with someone for most everyone. Parking was plentiful when we arrived this past Sunday (you pay when you exit), and we were immediately captivated by the size of this ship, slightly bigger than the Titanic. The history of this ship is already interesting enough, but I love that they offer special events and paranormal attractions as options to create an even greater experience for guests. We did the Haunted Encounters Tour, an hour-long creepy but entertaining adventure, even better with a smaller group in the morning time slot. You can bring drinks on tours but not food, so we grabbed some coffee from the Midship Marketplace (they serve Starbucks brand) before our tour which started with check-in at the 4th floor passenger info booth. Our tour guide (whose name I think was Max) did a good job sharing ghost stories, real and myth, while taking us to various rooms and levels of the ship, like the first class swimming pool (you can view but not enter) one of the most haunted areas of the ship, as well as the most haunted guest room B340, where mysterious things have happened to those staying in that room, following the death of a man in the bunk in the 1940's. The tour also included viewing of the theater room, access to the crow's nest, cargo shaft, fire station, wicker room, children's playroom replica, art gallery and museum shop. Max also explained a lot about the history of the vessel, giving us tips for where to find points of interest during the optional self-guided tour afterward. On our own, we checked out the visitors center, gift shop, captain's quarters, bridge on the sun deck, engine room, music room, and the isolation ward which houses death records among other things. The Queen Mary used to be a hospital ship, which is one of the reasons for its history of deaths occurring on site. All of the artifacts and parts of the ship we explored were intriguing. It's safe to say, we also definitely got our steps in, trekking up and down staircases and getting lost in the maze of pathways on different levels with lots to see and learn about from one end of the ship to the other. I've been here a few times and each time it gets worse and worse, so I refuse to go any longer. My most recent time here was to watch Shrek at their little theater just for them to play the movie 20 minutes late than the posted time. The screen looked like it had black paint splattered on the screen, and I was told when we checked it that the parking would be validated after the movie BUT after the movie ended, I was told validation was not covered. Why would parking be more that the cost of seeing the movie??!! Make that make sense. $25 is too much and with regular validation it was $15. No wonder this place barley has people visiting. Don't spend your money here, even to visit for your first time, you'll be better off going somewhere else or saving it for something actually cool. read more

SoCal Road Trip 2025 Day 1 Third Stop - Queen Mary I have been on the tours at the Queen Mary a couple of times before. This time was not about the tour but just about the being there. They offer a discounted fee for self guided walk abouts after 6:00 PM. You don't get full run of the ship but there are a few decks that you can wander about. Some displays that you can see. Some good views to take in. Really just an opportunity to walk though a piece of history. A very large piece. 1,000 feet long and 80 feet wide. Too wide to pass through the Panama Canal when it was still in operation as an ocean liner. There was a bit of confusion when we arrived. The website mentions the discounted after hours price beginning at 6:00. The sign at the Queen Mary ticket office says 8:00. We actually did not end up paying at all as we were advised by staff that if we made a reservation for the jazz night happening at one of the lounges that we could get in free. Good looking out, dude. All we ended up paying was the parking. We spent maybe an hour or so just walking the halls and decks taking it all in. read more

Yes the service is great. The first time going there with my friend. It was not that many people. I was taking my dear friend for her birthday. When we were thinking of lower prices in Entrance it was $45.00 per person for only a 1 hour tour. And I do not know when they have free tours after. I was disappointed no type of discount. Ok so we came here on a whim because we had tickets to the dark harbor. We checked in to our room and WHAT THE HELLYONTE they placed us near the isolation ward. I was legit terrified all night. Then we decided to take a self guided tour of our own at 2am. I was even more terrified but tbh excited!!! My bf likes to explore so he was the one guiding me to all the scary places on the ship at 2-3am. Our room was 517 and it has a creepy mold smell to it. Maybe not so safe who knows but we stayed for one night and checked it off our bucket list. Yeah we both agreed we won't be staying here again. Also if you're a hot sleeper.... We were there for this Fourth of July 2026 Saturday and we stayed through the night. We were facing the dock and it was so noisy. We got maybe an hour of sleep when they told us it would be a little noisy. They did not tell us that they'd be having rollabout every other hour and they're just way too expensive next time. I'm just gonna go and roam about, but I'm not staying also there's no air-conditioning and you get one fan and it was so muggy. Everything else was cool there fire Work display was awesome. I went on the night ghost tour and it was amazing! Even though I didn't see anything creepy or really feel anything creepy I could definitely see this shit being haunted. I liked all the stories and history on the tour. I also liked the really cute bar in the back. It was really happening that night and people were dancing. It was really cool to see. It felt like a step back in time. I did go before New Year's Eve so it was all decorated for their New Year's Eve party, which looks like that would be cool so that might be added to my bucket list! The creepiest room I saw was the old first class pool with the steam room since it's supposedly haunted by a little girl. Ship is just really old. Unique and quaint. The old children's nursery has a creepy doll. Interesting. They also have an area where you can get food and ice cream and there is an actual restaurant too and you can also stay here. Some of it still hosts like a hotel. I got to wander around at night with hardly anyone on the ship which was cool. Still didn't see anything but what a great experience. The Queen Mary was a unique experience. As a horror fan I booked the tour and a room. Here is my opinion The tour: It's a great learning experience. They take you into rooms you wouldn't otherwise have access to without the tour. My tour group was able to tour the ships most haunted room. Room B340! They offer the tour in both english and spanish. They take you in the underground part of the ship to look at how it works. The tour guides seem to enjoy their job as they always contribute personality to their scripts. The rooms: They are far from fancy due to the boat's age but it had everything I needed. I booked the standard king bed room. It came with a vanity, shower, a tv, and of course the king size bed. If you're looking for something up to date it might not be the place for you. My favorite part was being able to explore the ship in the middle of the night. There were no crowds and it contributed to the scare. Overall, a tour is enough to get what you need from the Queen Mary. I don't think booking a room makes or breaks the experience. Please note to get onto the ship it is ADA friendly but the exploring of the ship is not. There are areas such as the front and back of the ship that you cannot access with a wheel chair. Yesterday I had the privilege to go to the Queen Marry for my birthday. My husband and I ended up going on the Haunted Encounters tour. Just so people know it's not a jump scary tour. But it is really cool. They take you around the ship and talk about deaths that had happened and where. They also tell you the stories that have happened with the spirits that are all around the ship. So if you're into the paranormal or ghosts definitely check it out. It is interesting and enjoyable. I booked a stay here through Expedia, two rooms for two nights. Instantly I realized I had booked the incorrect dates and went to make the change. Expedia needed to get permission from the hotel to cancel the first, incorrect dates. However, the queen mary REFUSED this request. Now I'm having to pay twice. They could have put customer service above money but didn't. Now they have an extremely unhappy customer on their hands. I hope the extra money was worth it for them. What a terrible experience. This is a tourist trap at best, the haunting stories were made up by Walt Disney in the 1980s for a Halloween Event. I even went to the extent of talking poorly about British soldier ghosts. I was a bit too determined. Nothing happened except for hearing my neighbors make racist comments. Yes, you can hear every word. Every.. word. Families, keep this in mind if your kids come to stay. Have the birds and the bees talk before going. I came for an Insomniac event and Queen Mary signed a contract with a shady security business called Mondragon Quality Protection. Saying that I felt unsafe is an understatement. There was one man with a muffintop haircut that literally harassed us. We were strolling around Queen Mary and I politely asked "is there places that I can't go?" He had a huge attitude and was saying "I don't know what you're asking." I said that I was staying at the hotel and had never been there, he did not care. Later, I went downstairs to get a coffee, same exact guy. Said we had to walk around the entire festival to get to a stand that I could walk to "for the artist." At this point I asked him who his boss was, he pointed to a random guy, I asked the guy, he pointed to someone else, I talked to him, he said the initial guy was the one in charge. I eventually said "dude, I'm not playing these games, who hired you and what is your name?" He refused to give me his name. I did not do that, but people did, intoxicated people. Being impaired, they walked into traffic gladly, I feared for them. Eventually, I went up to the staff and said, "who are these people, as security? Are they your people?" They said they were with insomniac (yet these people were walking on their ship harassing tourists telling them they can't sit in lounges, had to walk in weird places, etc. power tripping). To keep a long story short: The story is fake, it is a tourist trap, the bed wrecked my neck and back (I'm not even 30) and the historic parts that they claimed to preserve were modernized so saying it's a museum is a lie. I'd rather walk 3 miles to a hotel than give my money to people who contract out to shady 3rd party securities that harass tourists while taking no accountability for a poor experience. Walt Disney was smart to build Tokyo DisneySea in Tokyo instead of Long Beach (even though Long Beach petitioned against it). read more

Our first time to the Queen Mary was a success and we enjoyed ourselves. We took the Glory Days tour. It was well moderated and we were able to learn a lot about the history of the ship. I was a bit disappointed in the small amount of space we covered during that time, primarily spending our time in 2 ballrooms that are now converted event spaces. I would have preferred some more time outside or on another deck. The Engine Room and Museum was really cool, but unfortunately there was no ADA accessibility for it, so my husband was unable to join us on that side of the boat. We also ate at the restaurant and while overpriced, it was good food for lunch. Overall, I'd probably go back for an event or something seasonal, but for $40 per person, I don't think the Glory Tour is worth it. read more

We have been visiting The Queen Mary on our trips to Southern California for several years now and we really enjoy it. While we had an opportunity to stay in a room on the ship many years ago (and loved it), this time we were just visiting for the day. We signed up for a Glory Days tour with our admission onto the ship ($36 + fees per person). This was the only tour available for the time we had that was mobility scooter accessible. Our Tour Guide was Ashlee and she did a great job sharing some of the history of the ship and answering our questions. We dined in the Promenade Cafe and really enjoyed it. We ordered Fish & Sidewinder Fries ($21) and the Soup of the day which was a Thai Chicken & Rice Soup (12$). The Fish & Sidewinder Fries were plentiful and easily shared by two of us. The Sidewinder Fries were thick and curly, unlike any we've ever had and we loved them. The soup was plentiful served in a large bowl and tasty. There are two gift shops onboard and one gift shop on the dock. They offer a decent selection of merchandise for purchase including drinkware, tshirts, magnets, keychains, soaps, home decor, Christmas ornaments, plush and toys. We watched the start of a wedding taking place at the stern of the ship which was beautiful. The bride wore one of the most beautiful wedding dresses I've ever seen. What a wonderful venue to celebrate such a life memory. There are several other tours you could sign up for that take you through different parts of the ship. We took a few other tours in previous visits and really enjoyed them. There is also a nice ice cream and coffee cafe and a also the Observation Bar which is under the bridge area and also a more upscale restaurant onboard. They also offer a Sunday Brunch which we will remember for a future visit. In addition to the admission fee for the ship there is also a parking fee by the hour payable as you exit. Beginning construction in 1930 and sailing its last voyage in 1967, This is a ship full of history with lots of stories. There are lots of refurbishments ongoing to preserve such a great time capsule. read more

I firstly want to say, I'm glad I stayed at the ships hotel for the experience. Would I stay again? Umm no! It's not the staff because they are wonderful, even offering a fan for the room. Trust me TAKE IT!! Due to the age of the ship they can't regulate the air and no windows open. That said it's fantastic for a historic place. It's wonderful to try to feel what it must have felt sailing on such a beautiful ship. I shared the family suite with a friend and it was okay. The smaller bed I slept on wasn't as comfortable as the queen bed. The bathroom was its own unique experience in itself. Nice hot water but it took a bit to wash the shampoo out of my thin hair. Not the best water pressure. Again it's all for the experience!!! Another small issue was the thin walls. I unfortunately felt like whoever was walking out in the hall was in bed with me. LOL Maybe don't stay on the first floor. I did take a paranormal tour and our tour guide was excellent. Completely recommend trying that. The breakfast was $35 per person and it was just like you would get in a hotel for the free breakfast. We did enjoy the bar and the flat bread pizza as well the carrot hummus with vegetables. We stayed in B-340 on 6-16-26 for our 15th anniversary, and while we didn't have any ghost activity, it was the most amazing room I have ever stayed in! It was huge. Decorated in old tyme furniture and pictures. The room was huge. It was fantastic! The next night,we stayed in a stateroom which was small compared to the other room, but cozy. I was so happy that they had both had porthole windows that opened. We spent our two days exploring the ship. It was the most amazing trip we have ever had. The ship and it's history is just so wonderful. We ate at the promenade Cafe several times and we're never disappointed! My husband had the copppiono. And it came in a cauldron like bowl full of shrimp,, mussels and other stuff. It have two large lobster legs hanging out of the bowl. My husband said he has never gotten this much lobster. And the price was excellent for what he got! Overall, I would recommend visiting the Queen Mary! Its a beautiful ship with a lot of history and it was just one of the best vacations we have had!!!!!! read more

I actually decided to stay here out of chance... I was in town for a conference and had waited awhile to get a room. I decided for fun to see how much it would be to stay on The Queen Mary and was surprised to find that it was pretty cheap! Especially compared to the other hotels in the area! Usually for work I stay at a chain hotel. Just makes expense reports easier and doesn't get me any lip from any expense report auditors. As if staying in a hotel for a conference would ever be this ridiculous vacation... but I still try to make it fun. Anyway, it's a really cool experience and fun to get a look at something historic. My room was one of the cheaper rooms they had, and while it wasn't huge, it had enough space for me. My internet worked perfectly. It really does feel like you have your own cabin on the boat. Walking down the halls and checking out the different areas of the hotel is a fun experience in itself. There are pretty views and all sorts of different things to discover. Even walking outside was a fun experience! The staff were nice but later when I needed them to send me my bill it was like pulling teeth. They kept saying they would email it and it took like 5 calls until someone actually sent it. For someone who had an expense report due it was maddening having to bed and plead for them to send you the bill they promised to email when you checked out! We stay with you guys often and there was a Priceline error when I booked a room there ( it was supposed to be inputted for Jan 27 but Priceline defaulted and somehow reset to the newest date - which I didn't realize until after the booking was confirmed). I called Priceline immediately this morning super early, spoke with them and told them what happened, and their representative reached out to you guys two times and confirmed a cancellation and a refund. Come 4:30 pm, I go to check and the reservation is still showing as active - even though Priceline has a recorded call of the cancellation being processed. Now you guys are suddenly saying no refund and you're doing it in a petty manner- I had booked rooms with you guys for 01/19 but my company moved the dates so I cancelled that reservation with you guys so I could re book the new dates which is what I was doing last night . This was supposed to be 01/27 - Priceline glitched - this was the trip I was trying to rebook but Elizabeth over there is acting like I am being punished for cancelling the 01/19 reservation and literally told Priceline she won't refund it because I already had a cancellation ?? First off- that is super bad business. It screams that you guys are desperate. I have already given that hotel a lot of money and we have been good patrons for you guys. How is this okay? read more

We actually had an awesome vacation on the Queen Mary! We stayed here 4 days/3 nights during Thanksgiving. I'm glad I read many of the Yelp reviews before booking my reservation for a Mini Suite, which was the size of two staterooms and had a full on kitchen (with a fridge and microwave), dining table, and separate sitting area. Our bedroom was huge and there was tons of closet space. The bathroom was decent sized and nicely appointed with vintage fittings. So, here's some key takeaways- 1. Yes, the ship is old. I mean, it's a National Historic Monument and a hallmark to Long Beach's rich maritime history. No where do they claim to be an Embassy Suites or Hampton Inn so if you're looking for modern luxury and convenience well, this probably ain't it. But, if you're a history buff like me and appreciate a bygone era you'll LOVE it! The rooms have awesome antique furnishings and there are many tours and interpretive exhibits. Every inch of the QM oozes brilliant stories and fascinations. If you're staying here more than one night you might want to take your time, plan your visits, and not rush through everything. 2. Yes, you'll have to walk. The corridors are long but also ADA compliant. The ship also looks amazingly different during different times of the day, from the early morning to the evenings. I took lots of photos and was happy to explore most of the features of the ship, from the cool exercise room (with vintage exercise equipment on display) to most of the many floors and exteriors. It's also a fun way to log in your 10,000 steps a day! And, as many have said, sound travels between the rooms and corridors so you do have to respectfully keep your voices down. 3. The rooms are all different and no, it's not the Carnival Cruise line that ports next door. Some rooms have no windows and are tiny while others are full on suites. You need to make sure you choose the type that best suits you. You can also call the front desk the week of your arrival to discuss the type of room you've booked and request any preferences. Also know that the ship does not have state of the art climate control so if you're heat sensitive you may want to avoid coming here during the hot summer months or bring your own usb powered fan like I did, just in case. 4. The QM is dog friendly but does not have pet relief stations and there's a park down the road. My Service Dog is completely puppy pad trained and was very comfortable staying on the ship. 5. The Staff on the Queen Mary was AWESOME! From the super helpful Front Desk staff to the Porters, Engineers, Tour Guides, Retail Staff, and Housekeepers, everyone who worked on the ship was totally professional and friendly! Stayed the night for 1 night and the room has no outlets to use except for the TV. Room is very old so don't expect anything nice like from the photoshop photos they show. Walls are very thin so neighbors made so much noice having conversations past 10pm. I don't recommend sleeping here just touring it for 1 time only. Never coming back ever. read more

We booked the night before we left on a cruise. This was the best decision of our entire vacation. We loved the clam chowder and fish and chips at the Chart House, the night cap and late night charcuterie snack at the observation bar, exploring this beautiful, historic ship, and most of all the Royal Sunday Brunch! We happened to book during The Queen Mary's Dark Harbor Halloween Festival which was a very cool experience to watch over from the ship. We will definitely be going back for the festival. Hello, I have been planning a trip to your establishment and had not been successful due to family coordinating but this June 6 I had planned to come and visit for a Glory days tour and even spoke to several employees through out the month of May to ensure a nice planned day with my family. When speaking to your employees they were helpful with all the question I had regarding parking, ticketing., restaurant and arrival tips. I was so excited even getting a see you tomorrow excitement from your staff. When i arrive 40 minutes early to the queen Mary I am met with traffic and with parking enforcement asking where I was going. I said I am going to The Queen Mary, they said to me "for what, its closed!" to my surprise i replied NO they are not I have been communicating this whole month for a visit and they said well we have an even going on and the The Queen Mary is closed and processing to guide towards traffic into the queen marry. At this point I have been asked by 5 other parking people where II am going and same thing its closed and you have to park outside of this and walk in. No one had any idea as to what their jobs were and we were told to turn on our hazards for queen Mary but for what when we thrown out the parking area. I called the queen Mary while I was stuck in an embarrassing attempt at parking enforcement and I was told that they were not closed but due to event guest were being shuttled to the queen Mary. NO SIGANAGE WAS POSTED ANYWHERE TO SHOW YOUR GUEST WHERE TO GO DUE TO THE UNORGANIZED EVENT GOING. I can understand events and what happened to get them going, but a team in place for these things is a MUST and I can only imaging the rest of the night and how bad and GHETTO It was. I was traveling with a group oof 10 traveling from SAN DIEGO CA. to visit your establishment and were greeted with this, so much for visiting and speeding the word. We love visiting The Queen Mary and taking the History tour we try to come back once a year if not more because we always learn something new. This past Tuesday 10/14 our tour was at 11:30 . Our tour guide pictured below while friendly was ok at his job but would love to share a little advice going forward. While on our tour several field trips were going on. Kids are loud and instead of taking a pause while the kids passed by on the tour the guide kept talking. We would miss anything he was trying to tell us about the ship. We had around maybe 20 people on our tour several who were elderly and could not understand anything that was being said while the louder tour passed by us as well. He would also start the next portion of the tour before everyone was able to gather into the next area we were headed to. We would all be trying to usher into the long hallways etc and before we could all gather together he would begin speaking. I know that the guides may have a time constraint but for how much the tickets cost and how far people are traveling for this one of a kind tour it would be nice to have minor things corrected. Especially since a lot of the tourists are older. We had a lady with a cane next to us most of the tour and while she was able to keep up she missed so much information and was rather disappointed. Also very little of the WWII history was mentioned on our tour we mostly just heard about the movies filmed on the ship . Several of the British tourist would inquire about that part of the ships history but the guide didn't seem to be as well versed in that history or did not wish to elaborate much. The Queen Mary sat majestically in the water, her horn blowing and calling us in. We had read the reviews ahead of buying our tickets, and were intrigued. The ship was easy to board, the staff was very helpful. We did a basic self guided tour using the handy map we picked up at the information desk. There are short audible information pieces that you can access through a QR code on your phone. We covered every portion of the ship that was accessible. We enjoyed the exhibits, the history, and the video stories of people recalling their own experiences with the Queen Mary in its glory days.
