We were very surprised at this out of the way restaurant. Food was delicious and prices were not that bad!

Prepare for a wait during the Balloon Fiesta, but definitely worth it. They have a large menu with all of your breakfast and lunch favorites but done really well. The decor is adorable with lots of little ovens all around. The servers go with the decor as they are all very sweet and attentive. Be sure to check out the large gift shop off the lobby. Lots of great merch not just from the store but from the New Mexico area in general. This is a must every year for the Fiesta. See you again soon! read more

The Range was my first introduction to New Mexican food, and I'm happy it was. The restaurant is a fun, inviting, and eclectic place with really friendly and welcoming staff. They were very patient with our large group and made recommendations on what to eat. I ended up ordering the huevos rancheros which consisted of two fresh eggs, blue corn tortillas, white cheddar, range fries, pinto beans, and green chile sauce. It was delicious and I enjoyed every bite of it. The complimentary chips and salsa were great too, the salsa on the chunkier side. Don't forget to order dessert! We each ordered different desserts but shared them as a table. We got Life by chocolate, Death by lemon, and the creme brulee. They were all so decadent, rich, and delicious but my favorite has got to be the Death by Lemon. It was sweet, tart, and rich through and through. The Range Cafe was a really fun visit for us Georgia natives and we enjoyed the gift shop section too as well. I don't think I'll ever find myself in the area but if I do, I'll definitely come by for another meal and dessert. read more

We eat lunch here a couple of times per week because we work in town. It is consistently good food, good service, good atmosphere. We like the Range Chicken, the Huevos rancheros, the enchiladas (some times chicken/green or beef red), the combo, the burgers, the salads are great (only wish the tomatoes were cut up more). The fried green chile is awesome. The desserts are amazing. You can't go wrong here. read more

Service was not good today. We had an older lady who was our server. When we ordered our food she was distracted with rearranging our table to have room to put her device down to take our order. When we received our food it was cold. My husband ordered a country fried steak and it was cold, even the gravy was cold. My omelet was also cold my cream cheese was also cold inside of my omelet. When we received our food we had to wait an extra couple of minutes because we didn't have enough silverware. We actually had to ask a different server (a gentleman with a pony tail) who was extremely helpful and kind to bring ketchup for our papas, silverware, and some items from our order that were incorrect. What a treat The Range Cafe was during our summer vacation stop to meet up with some friends in Bernalillo. Just outside of Albuquerque, we chose this restaurant because our friends live down the street, and because Howie K. gave it a 5-star review. This is the original Cafe location. Turns out this place used to be a gas station, but it burned down, so when they rebuilt it, they included a fabulous area for live music, the dining area, and a gift shop. As for the food, our friends warned us that New Mexican cuisine can be spicy. Since I have a pretty sensitive stomach, I opted for the most memorable taco salad...probably the best I've ever had. It wasn't like your typical, Mexican restaurant type of salad. The food at The Range is unbelievably fresh and organic (pretty sure). What I remember the most from my salad were the organic black beans. They were hearty, small and plump and not overcooked. The salad was huge, and I wanted to eat the whole thing, but I couldn't finish (I was the last one eating and it was time to put it down). The taco bowl was extra crispy and a bit of a challenge to eat quickly, but I loved that it didn't fall apart and held all the ingredients together. The live music at The Range is top notch. Saw a flyer for Robbie Fulks...cool! It was nice to dine in one area and be able to still have a conversation but listen to the music at the same time. I have enjoyed coming to the Range Cafe. I first came late last year, and I've been back a few times bringing family for what I describe to them as a "fusion of New Mexican and comfort food." They have quite a broad range (har har) of food on their menu. I haven't tried breakfast or dessert. This is also a restaurant where I keep trying new things because so many of the items sound fantastic, and they all have been. Today, I had the Chimayo chicken sandwich. The guacamole and hot sauce on the chicken was amazing! It was topped off with Swiss cheese and bacon (not my normal go to's), but it worked so well! I've also had the cheese enchiladas, and the grilled cheese with tomato bisque. I will be back in the winter to get that again because that is my winter happiness meal. Today it was busy, so we sat in the full-service bar at one of the cocktail tables. The service was just as good as a normal section, but not as much room since the tables are small. For as many times as I've come here, being that it is really the only solid restaurant down the hill from where I live, I can't believe I've yet to review them...yeesh!! I don't even know where to begin with this place. Every time anyone comes to town to visit, this is the place (always) that everyone, and I mean everyone always talks about...and months later. In my humble opinion, I think they have some of the best chicken enchiladas in town...and I also think some of the best red chili too. Their carne adovada is also amazing - moist, tender and big flavor. I know there's going to be some albuquerqians that'll disagree but trust me, I've eaten at just about every "best" New Mexican restaurant from Taos to Las Cruces and the Range never disappoints. Their breakfasts are just sick. They make amazing pancakes, green chili turkey sausage, amazing breakfast burritos - I could go on and on. The portions - good grief - the portions are out of control too. We have some other places in town that are also known for their large portions but the good taste nothing like the Range's food. Ok - now on to the deserts. No place, and I mean no place in town even compare to the Range for deserts. Once you walk in and walk by their desert bar, full of cream puffs, muffins giant cookies, homemade pies and cakes - trust me - this is precisely where Hell meets Heaven. :D One could post photos all day long as you'll see from mine but nothing Is as good as just going and experiencing it all yourself. The legends are true: Bernalillo's original Range Cafe serves New Mexican favorites and American diner standards in a beautiful ranch-style restaurant within walking distance of historic downtown and the Railrunner train stop. Street parking is abundant, and there's also a large parking lot on San Felipe Road (parallel to Camino Del Pueblo and accessible either from W. Avenida Bernalillo or W. Calle Don Francisco). Bypassing the wait for a table, my girlfriend and I were seated at the back bar. We surrendered our senses to the passions of brunch and ordered large mimosas (tasty, but turns out they're $9 each). Several specials aroused our interest, though ultimately we settled on a classic: huevos rancheros with carne adovada. We also ordered a fresh strawberry pancake on the side. Though we would have been content to share a plate, the kitchen crew took the time and separated the order into two portions on separate plates. Each came brimming with chile, loaded high with eggs and carne adovada, glistening under melted cheese and ringed with a generous quantity of pinto beans and homestyle potatoes. Oh, but that I could taste memory. Be sure to stretch your legs and see the art and decor in the various rooms. This is a spacious establishment, oozing with charm and personality. WORTH GOING BACK TO TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW It was a time of unexpected joys, in a weird twist where my brother from Colorado and me from Montana happened to be in Albuquerque, NM at the same time. When we figured out that by chance we were both in the Albuquerque area, my brother and his friends chose the Range Cafe in Bernalillo, NM as as a dinner location to meet up for Sunday evening. A couple of weeks before, my husband, who lived in New Mexico, had chosen the Range Cafe in Albuquerque as a dinner location to meet my niece and her husband for Monday night dinner. I didn't realize that they were the same. The food was so good on Sunday in Bernalillo, I had no objection to going to perusing the same menu on Monday on Menault in Albuquerque. I had to force myself to choose something different because it was tempting to order the Carne Adovada Huevos Rancheros again. Originally, when I read the name on the menu, my head switched it to Carne Asada. But the server set me straight. It turns out that there are a number of variations of asada, adobado and pastor, each worth pursuing. And, we had such a good time in Bernalillo that I missed getting to the pottery shop. But, I found some treasures for my Christmas present stash in the Menault location, as well. But, rats, they have a sign for a cookbook, but no cookbooks in view. So, I added three hangings to my collection, hoping that I have the strength of character to actually put them under the Christmas tree. read more

You betcha. The portions are big enough for two people to share one meal, and the staff and vibe are super welcoming. I have visited this restaurant multiple times and have loved it. Today, not so much. Three of us came excited and hungry and all of our plates were cold. Like really cold. We told our waitress who took them to the back and warmed them really quickly. Our original plates showed up at the table. My mom's tenderloin was bone dry and my over medium eggs were now poached. The mashed potatoes were still very cold. We told her and the same plate left and came back. This is strange to me. The coffee was also cold. We weren't even given an apology. Just had dinner at the Range. This is a regular "go to" for us. My wife ordered the country fried steak, a usual for us. It arrived black with gravy hiding the condition of the breaded meat. It was so burnt that the knife couldn't cut it. It basically broke a piece away and the fork couldn't stick into the meat. I was amazed they would bring food out in that condition. We sent it back--maybe only the second time I've ever done that. After a twenty minute wait an over-cooked (but not burnt) replacement dinner arrives. My dinner was cold since I wouldn't eat until her's was there. The server was embarassed. The manager refused to come to our table, but comped a $7 desert. That is frankly insulting. I'm in New Mexico and I was craving some really good Southwestern food, so we decided to go here to eat. I've read the reviews, and people suggested to go to 'THE RANGE".....SooooOoOOo...I did. This place was really authentic looking. Kinda reminded me of a cool downtown Portland kind of fusion Mexican restaurant. Funky art decor filled the place. I felt at home in a strange kinda way. Best of all..was the food. I had the Spinach Enchiladas It was a big plate of creamy Yumm-E-ness! Two white corn enchiladas with fresh spinach, pico de gallo and corn in a creamy white cheddar, green chile sauce with black beans and arroz verde for $9.99 ohhh..so good. Just to let ya know.... New Mexicans don't do re fried beans, they actually just season up whole beans and serve them hot with rice. My hubby had a chicken chimichanga (served with rice and beans) for $10.99 He said it was the biggest and best chimicanga he's had in a lOoOng Time. I would of given this restaurant 5 stars... but I don't think it's "WhooOooo hoooo! As good as it gets". This place was filled with tourists, so I'm wondering how much they actually toned down the food for thier customers. Amazing Meals and Desserts - a must do! We first tried the Range Cafe in Bernalillo, NM a year ago when traveling through the area. We ate lunch and dinner there. This year, while traveling through the area again, I wanted to try their breakfast. I read on other review sites about their Huevos Rancheros. I was all set to order that this morning until I asked the waitress what breakfast was really amazing. She told me their Huevos Rancheros was very popular, though she prefers their Carne Adovada Huevos Rancheros. Great tip! My wife ordered the Huevos Rancheros and I ordered the Carne Adovada Huevos Rancheros. I ordered it with both green and red chile. WOW - what a great meal! Loved it all and preferred the red chile. In fact, I bought 2 jars of it (only $5 ea). I did a thorough Dessert Survey and wow, what great looking choices. I spoke to Chef David about the desserts. He's pretty passionate about them all. We went last night to eat in the bar to hear the music. We were there over an hour early. Every table was reserved and would be sitting empty for over an hour until the music started. The bar was full, no one had food. A few had drinks and many people were saving seats for other people not there. This is a bar in a restaurant, not a concert venue. You need to stop letting people reserve tables and just seat them as they come in. You lost revenue and customers for over an hour with all the empty tables. So we went to request a table in the main dining room, it was about half empty. Unfriendly hostess told us there would be at least a 35 minute wait. I asked why, with so many empty tables. She said there was a party of 45 people in the back that they needed to cook for before they could start on any other orders. What a horrible mismanagement of the entire restaurant. If you have a large party like that get extra cooks for the night. And hire friendly hostesses, not ones that seem to be put out waiting on people. Also another diner complained that someone was hanging out in the back parking lot and people felt afraid going out there. read more

When we stayed at the resort nearby, we preferred The Range Cafe to anything on site. Friendly staff, limited wait time, and a variety of delicious food with good sized portions. Went to the Range after going up to Jemez Mountains to cut down our Christmas tree. The restaurant itself is large and seats quite a few people. We went around lunch time, however they do serve breakfast all day. My husband got the meatloaf sandwich and loved it. I got the impossible burger which is a plant based vegetarian burger. It was really good. I also got a side of lentil soup. The serving of soup was generous and they did not charge me extra since it was not on the list of sides for my burger so that was a plus! Our server was attentive checked in to see how our food was and refilled waters when they were low. The gift shop is fun to check out as well. The decor of the cafe is super cute. I love miniature things and all the little ranges were so cute!! Over all the experience was good and I would go back. read more

Normally I don't like to give restaurants bad reviews. They are under a lot of pressure these days with staffing shortages and the like. This is an exception though as they appeared to be well staffed at the time we arrived. I can understand the long wait time's but what I don't understand is how once seated and order taken can 3 other table with parties matching our that had been seated before us can get there meal long before us. Strike 1.. Now for the real kicker cold coffee for my Mother in law, no appetizer delivered that was ordered, only after calling the "waiter" over did we seem to get some kind of answer to why it was taken to long. He was clearly not properly trained in food service. Strike 2. Order arrive and I gotta say I was impressed with all the meals in our party with the exception of mine. I ordered the bourbon flat iron steak and I'm not sure if the cooks had ever cooked a flat iron steak but it showed up in a bowl on top of mashed potatoes, under cooked, and have you all ever tried to cut a steak in a bowel, doesn't work no side of vegetable's either.. Final strike 3. I'm presuming the manager wanted and tried to make it right but I just could not look past the poor service and the meal to give a 2nd chance as well as another 30 minute wait for another plate to arrive. sorry for the long rant but hopefully it will help someone in the future avoid this kind of frustration I recently experienced. I would recommend the range and Burnley for desserts. they must have had a change in management or a constant change in Cooks. but no matter what you usually get served with a cold plate for an enchilada. the nachos are served with black beans that's dipped in the beans liquid so they're soggy and not edible. The staff is very rude! Obviously they don't realize that they represent the Range corporation. Their prices go up and their service goes down. just those who are not native to Mexican or New Mexican food usually end up eating at the range. and that's okay cuz they enjoy it. but if you're from Mexico and a Native of New Mexico, it would be very hard for you to compliment the food and service! Sorry, if I want to pay $16 for a green chili cheeseburger or blue corn enchilada cold because the Chili's already made and they put cheese on top of it and the sides are already made so what they do is warm it up in the microwave and it's still is warm. Just a couple of examples other than the nachos being soaked with black beans juice I'm sorry made me nauseous. If I want bad service, I'll just stay home, cook and let my family complain. I just want to say that we had a really nice brunch for a friend of mine for her birthday today. Excellent service, our server was Jerry I believe. He was very nice and at our table every time we needed something it was there immediately he didn't forget a thing.
