We passed The Range today on the way to another breakfast joint. Noticed quite a few cars in the lot. The other place had none so we u-turned and headed back to The Range. Glad we did. Food was perfect. Carne Adovado Huevas Rancheras were perfect as was wife's pancakes, bananas, fruit bowl and bacon. Yea, the server was very busy and didn't visit our table enuf, not because he was lazy, because he was busy. Another waitress kindly helped us with our bill. That separates a 4* from a 5*. This one is our favorite of the several ABQ locations. Everything is always freshly-prepared - very tasty, & VERY generous portions, especially for the reasonable prices! The huevos rancheros is my favorite breakfast option, with the accompanying breakfast potatoes fried extra-crispy. Whimsical SW-style decor, kids especially love it. Call ahead for larger groups, and they'll have a table waiting when you arrive (otherwise the wait can be a while during busy hours). read more

We were visiting from Texas and this place was recommended to us by some locals. We enjoy trying local cuisine. My wife had the Christmas Rellenos and I had the Huevos Rancheros. Both dishes were great as was the service. We followed that up with some delicious pie for dessert: "Death by Lemon" and a vanilla cream puff. Both were delicious. We ate here for brunch, I had the short stack with strawberries and whipped cream, my partner had the Chile relleno. The relleno came with beans and arroz Verde. First the good: The relleno were great! They were filled with white cheddar cheese and the batter was a crispy blue corn deliciously different coating. The best part was the meaty, thick flavorful Chile! Wow, so good! The beans were not refried and very good. Unfortunately I could not say the same about the pancakes. They were thin, crispy, and did not have a good flavor. Usually with strawberries and whipped cream I don't need any syrup but these pancakes really needed the syrup to improve the texture as well as the taste. Also for two pancakes two pats of butter would be nice. Even McDonald's gives more than one pat of butter. I keep wanting to love the Range but they are too inconsistent with their food and service. I would definitely go back for the rellenos though. read more

I love The Range so much. It tends to be my go to place. However, I have found that the location on Wyoming is hit or miss; sometimes my food is cold or way different than it normally is or something is missing off of my plate all together. I usually frequent the location on Menaul. My favorite thing to eat is the Chimayo chicken sandwich bc of the Chimayo sauce, that stuff is the best! read more

Came here for dinner and we had good experiences, both with helpful, friendly staff and with menu choices. I ordered meatloaf and substituted green chile gravy with a side salad. Greens were beautifully fresh and crisp, and the meatloaf/gravy combo was great. They do what the do really well and don't try to overreach. Would go back in a heartbeat, and probably order the same exact dinner. Or just have the green chile gravy on pretty much anything! read more

Hey, this one is a no brainer. When in Rome... stopped here based on the reviews. I tried the Huevos Rancheros with blue corn tortilla and green sauce also based on the reviews. It did not disappoint. This is a good breakfast spot with a great southwestern theme. I also tried the signature turkey sausage with green chiles but I didn't really care for it. I do like turkey sausage but this was ground turkey fried into a small patties that was rather crumbly and not very flavorful in my opinion. read more

Fun place for lunch. Looks like they refurbished a Denny's but they did a nice job and it had a nice vibe. Very popular with the locals. I had the green chili burger it was perfect. We enjoyed bringing our out-of-town family here because of the eclectic atmosphere and good eats. There is enough NM food on the menu to satisfy everyone with a new dish. One of those out of towners loves chicken fried steak and tries it everywhere he goes, and said HANDS DOWN The Range's chicken fried streak was the best he's ever had. A good friend and long-time resident of ABQ turned us on to this cute and charming place. I've only been to two locations (the other being Bernalillo) and have had better experiences here. Good food and very friendly service. I'm not one for spicy food, though they can often tone it down for me. It's not the type of food I would want all the time, but it's definitely worth a try. read more

We like to go for breakfast on the weekends. It is usually good with good service, but consistency of both seems to be a problem. It is like their different chefs are cooking different things. This is an electric restaurant, with flying cows and a very rustic feel. If you've ever been to the chain black bear diner, it has a similar feel. We came for breakfast, I had pastrami with green chili hash, others had a omelette and some big potato and carne avodada dish with red chili sauce. It's New Year's Day and the Range Café was absolutely jampacked. I almost left to find a place not so busy but decided to stick it out. They seated me actually pretty quickly. They displayed amazing team work. Everybody was helping everybody to make the customers happy. The food was great. And the service was stellar. Here in the 505, a lot of people judge a restaurant by their plate of huevos rancheros. Here, they have very good huevos rancheros, but it's just a tad expensive. In fact prices here tend to be just a bit high for Albuquerque, which means they're an absolute bargain if you're from anywhere else. The menu has plenty of favorites like a chicken fried steak, hot turkey dinner, meatloaf, hamburgers, multiple salads, and other favorites. While there you won't want to miss dessert, or you'll want to come in just for dessert sometime. They bake fresh in each of their locations. This location recently installed a well designed bar and all locations serve a great selection of local beers. read more

I have been a regular at the Range for years and it never gets old or boring. The Home on the Range for breakfast is Divine. At lunch time I go between the Chef Salad which is huge and the Chimayo Chicken Sandwich that is totally fab (and huge). For dinner, I'm all about the Meatloaf. That mushroom sauce is sooooooo good I could eat a bowl of it. I really try to not look at the desserts when I walk by the case but my husband often notices the drool running down my mouth and regular surprises me by bring one home. I always enjoy eating at the range cafe. The only problem with this location is that the crowd can be fairly old. The service is always attentive. The food is fresh and interesting. I particularly like the spinach enchiladas. I have ordered them a few times. While they may be vegetarian, they are not healthy. Halfway through the state on I-40 I made some calls and landed at The Range. For a place so highly touted from a food-trust-worthy source, I was a little disappointed. As I've stated before I grew up in the SW and I was weaned on green chile. I was hoping for a carne adovada and chile feast but the Range didn't deliver. First off (and I know this is New Mexico but,) the décor is just nasty. Imagine Georgia O'Keefe's vagina throwing up all over the place in teal and burnt sienna. There were a few tatted and pierced freaks on both sides of the counter which helped me feel a little homey but, basically it looked like an old Denny's that had been gutted and converted into its present state. With no adovada on the menu we went for the combo of blue corn tamales with green chile enchiladas. Overall it was decent but I had hoped at least to burn from my esophageal passage to my nether region, and it was tepid at best. When I asked for some add'l hot sauce, they had Tabasco and Tapatio...c'mon guys let's get a little creative. Served with run o' the mill pintos, the plate wasn't really well rounded. I save frijoles negros for my chile and pork dishes generally, and the sides here didn't tickle my food fancy. I met an old friend this morning at The Range Cafe. We spent a lot of time catching up and not enough time ordering and eating our food. However, the wait staff was VERY patient with us. We have had lots of great experiences here and my husband loves the impossible burger. The new version of their salmon was a big disappointment. It was served on a fried disc that was supposed to be rice but was really mushy inside. The vegetable topping was a thick white sauce with unidentifiable vegetables. It was really sticky. The salmon and green beans were nicely done but basically half the plate was a gooey texture. We will go back and stick to our tried and true burgers. read more

I've seen the range many times but for some reason nothing has drawn me in. Then one day a friend of mine suggested the range for dessert and coffee. The desert was absolutely heavenly, sweet but not too sweet, beautifully decorated and absoutly delicious, coffee was House coffee but i was pleased to see real cream and not that powder substance. Service was exceptional the manager stopped by each table to check that your visit was going well. Decor has a homey feel and when to enter you will understand why they call it the range. One night a friend of mine and I stopped in for dessert and coffee and we talked and laughed so long that we went past closing hours not our waitress or any other server made us feel as though we needed to rush out they told us to take our time. I like the range and have loved each visit i have also tried their salads and sandwiches and i was happy with both. I would recommend the range to friends and family or anyone who's in search of some good food and very delicious dessert. Way to go range cafe! read more

Let me say right off the bat that these precious five stars are awarded to their cannoli, and their cannoli alone. Not that I don't love The Range. I do, and more of that later. But the cannoli . . . Have you tried these things yet? They are fucking delicious. Definitely homemade, with a delicate cookie/waffle-y shell, stuffed with sweet mascarpone goodness, both ends dipped generously in milk chocolate, with the entirety drizzled in white chocolate. They are decadent but not overly sweet, and not so big as to induce complete self-loathing after consumption. Nay, just exactly the right amount of self-loathing . . . I have always gone to The Range on Menaul and University, because it is closest to my house, and because I have a soft spot for the building they inhabit. It used to be an IHOP when my son was wee, and how fondly I remember taking him here as a treat way back when, cuz times were tough then, you know? And little man loved him some pancakes with Butter Pecan syrup. The Range is, of course, infinitely superior to IHOP. It's got all the awesomeness of a diner ambiance, but the food is creative, and delicious, and prepared with a New Mexican twist. Yum yum yum. And most of the servers have tattoos and piercings and the hint of an attitude, which is how I like my servers. So I was surprised when a friend brought me a cannoli from The Range as a gift, because I don't remember cannoli there? And when I went back to my familiar location to specifically purchase cannoli, I was told they don't carry them at this location? I should really withhold a star for 1). making me drive to Wyoming and Montgomery (!!!), and 2). not having a menu that is consistent across your restaurants. But I'm not going to do that, Range Cafe, because I enjoyed my cannoli so much I'm just too satisfied to bitch. read more

I usually love this place. Have been going for 15 years. The last couple times I went I felt like it was slipping a bit. I have no clue why the Huevos Rancheros won any contests...BLECH. The blue corn enchiladas are still good, but the prices have been going up at a rate much higher than inflation. To date I still haven't tried their bakery items (stupid). They look amazing. Excellent diner in NM. Draft beer, burgers, some north of the border Tex mex style. I ordered a cup of green chili chicken stew, spicy and excellent. For dinner I had a burger that had a poblano pepper on it. The burger was very good. I enjoyed dinner very well. read more

The waitress took some of our orders and brought out some of our drinks. 45 after all our orders were in someone came and told us the waitress forgot to put our order in. The waitress came over and apologized and said she didn't know what she had done wrong. When we finally got our food it wasn't bad and they did comp some of our check. I absolutely love the Range Cafe. No matter what location I go to the food is always amazing and the atmosphere can't be beat including unique artwork and installations by local artists. The pancakes are the top of my list for favorite food! The New Mexican Benny is delicious as well as the Eggs Con Queso. Everyone adores the Huevos Rancheros. Obviously there is no shortage of yummy food to choose from. Don't forget the Gooey Pecan Rolls - they melt in your mouth if heated up. A definite recommendation from a native New Mexican! read more

We came here for my birthday breakfast last month. It was good, but not spectacular. My boyfriend did enjoy his vegetarian breakfast, though I don't remember exactly what he got. I guess that sums up the overall experience for us -- tasty, but not memorable. read more
