Consistently good hometown comfort food with a New Mexican twist. The Range always delivers. The food is good and unique, similar items you would find at Denny's, but seasoned, prepared, and with an added twist, this is not Denny's food. I think the appropriate title would be "Gourmet Comfort food". And if you are wondering what comfort food is, it is down home American basics... steak, potatoes, salad, meatloaf, chicken fried steak, macaroni and cheese, hamburgers,... add to those NM favorites tacos, enchiladas, rellenos... But they are always unique and always tasty. Take their grilled cheese, for instance, an American classic right? Sandwich bread and American cheese right? Here are the ingredients at The Range - white cheddar, Swiss, Parmesan, bacon, tomato, Dijon mayo on grilled sourdough! Mac and Cheese? - white cheddar, Parmesan, roasted green chile, penne pasta I've had several items including the chile rellenos, chile con queso, salads, green chile stew, and The Range always has delivered. I try to eat there at least once whenever I am in town. UPDATE NOTE: August 2016. Stopped by once again at the Range. This time I tried their "upscale" grilled cheese. Not so great. For some reason, the people who prepare food in most restaurant and or fast food kitchens cannot, for the life of them, figure out that to prepare grilled cheese requires the bread to be buttered COMPLETELY on the outside of the bread. It is a no brainer people!!! Butter the outside, then place on grill. Grill until toasted on the outside... ok... And restaurants, PLEASE teach the kids that you hire that this is how to make a simple grilled cheese sandwich... it isn't rocket science!!! That having been said. What I got when I ordered this sandwich was white bread that was barely toasted - appeared to have a small amount of butter or some oil in the middle of the half sandwich. On the inside - a dab of tomato chile jam in the middle of the half sandwich, with a dab of cheese..... also in the middle of the half sandwich. There were a few slices of bacon, which was about the only thing that spread beyone the middle of the sandwich. I don't get it... how hard is it to make a sandwich... put the condiments.. in this case, tomato chile jam.... across the entire bread... not in the middle... but from the edges inward... from the center to the edges....smh... anyway, so the sandwich was a flop... awful. Not worth $2.00. The tomato bisque, however, that came with the sandwich, was pretty darn good. Once again, there need to be standards - that are adhered to.... class 101 "This is how you make a sandwich" class 102 "This is how you grill a sandwich" class 201 "How to make food you are PROUD of... Food YOU would like to eat!" This will not deter me from The Range Cafe,.... but, if this happens again, I'm not going to sit quietly. Something like this can take a good restaurant straight down to the dump level. read more

Gourmet dining at reasonable prices. The atmosphere in the Wyoming Blvd location is great. From the wood carvings and local artwork to the all of those little 50s era toy ranges sprinkled all over the dining area there's always something interesting to look at. Every plate of food that I have ever enjoyed was prepared with care and style. The location is always clean and roomy while seated. The staff are very professional, friendly and attentive. This evening I had the Hoosier pork steak. Broccoli rob and carrots were flavorful and cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes were creamy and wholesome. The pork itself was nice and crisp while being juicy and very flavorful. The lemon butter sauce complemented the pork beautifully. This experience rings true time and again for every experience that I have ever had there. Don't forget about the amazing desserts as well. Our favourite. We come here too often! The manager always makes sure we are well taken care of! Absolutely the best service. Food is divine. I recommend the taco salad if you are watching your diet. But for the big appetite my son always gets the Wagon Train, and is hugely satisfied. We always have food to take home. Miss the rush by going early morning or mid afternoon. This is a local favourite, so bring a smile, cash for the tip, and a pleasant attitude! You won't be sorry for your effort and investment! read more

Horrible food today. I had the fish and chips. The fish was mushy, mealy and fishy. The chips were not chips, but potato wedges that were cold and soft and soggy. Not 'chips' at all. The meal also came with a cucumber/apple salad.. it was DREADFUL. The cucmbers were bland and tasteless and were so limp they must have been peeled and sliced several days before. The cucumber/apple salad was served room temperature.. YUCK. I only ate 1 of the 2 fish squares and little else. The waitress (although nice), never asked if there was anything wrong or if the food was good or bad.. she just asked if I was done and took my plate away and brought the bill. What a waste of money. Completely disappointed with the service at this restaurant. Food was not made to order. Nobody would help us with refills until I finally had come up to the counter. Why was water never offered? Why was the table not bussed until I was furious and ready to walk out? Anyway, if you know what's good for you never dine at the crummy booth across from the cash register...you will be completely ignored. The floor manager did attempt to make it right but I was pretty angry at this point and just wanted to get out of there, never to return. I've had similar service at the Menaul location in the past. It seems like the food is good and the crowds keep coming in but the bigger they get, the less they attend to service. Zero service = zero tip. read more

Every time I come into town, I always go to The Range first! Excellent food and service!

I love the Range cafe in Bernalillo! However this location is very close to where I live. I can't get past that it's a remodeled Carrow's although they did a pretty good job in remodeling it. Perhaps that is why I don't enjoy it as much as the original location. The food is good home cooking. Tom' meatloaf and NM mac & cheese are among my favorite choices. read more

Have came here several times now since moving to ABQ. This place is great for breakfast but I haven't tried lunch here yet. My husband loves their huevos rancheros and I love their omelettes. Visited this place for breakfast while in Albuquerque to see family and the ballon fiesta. The service was a bit off but everything we ordered for food was delicious. A few of us got the Home on the Range which was a very large portion of oatmeal with a scoop of ice cream on top with strawberries and walnuts. Although it was very tasty, no one came close to finishing it. My fiancé got the huevos rancheros which I had several bites of. You can get either green or red chili or combination of both on top. I ordered the breakfast tacos which I throughly enjoyed. I thought the portion size was perfect - two tacos and a side of breakfast potatoes. The tacos had a mixture of eggs, chorizo and cheese and were topped with fresh avocados. I would definitely visit this place again while in town next time. read more

I used to really Like Range Cafe. Then a few months ago they changed their menu and several of my favorites disappeared. In protest, I stopped going there. I was forced to eat there today due to a business lunch and it's actually gotten worse. A few people at my table were disappointed that their food wasn't prepared correctly, or was missing ingredients. I don't know if they are expanding too quickly, or if there is a management issue at this location. Frankly, I don't care. I'm not going back. read more

I have been to The Range numerous times. I try to eat something different every time. This last visit wasn't the best. The food was OK, but my eggs weren't cooked the way I ordered them and I didn't care for the spicy turkey sausage that came with my meal. My daughter's pancakes were very crisp and tasteless; she didn't eat them. I'm giving it 3 stars because I think this last visit wasn't what I normally experience. Service was fine, but the food was a total miss. The "toast" was just bread with barely noticeable toast marks on one side, the range fries were good, but the portion was super skimpy compared to my usually range experience. The eggs were poached too long and the Canadian bacon was tough and over cooked as well. I usually love the range, but this is not the location to go to. Try going to the range on Menaul instead. I typically enjoy the Range Cafe. I went this morning, and it was busy. This restaurant is usually busy on the weekends around brunch time. You may have to wait a little while, but they are quick at turning tables. I felt like they have been trying to rush the food a little bit too much and my food was not good. My eggs were not cooked and the fruit had a lot of stems in it. I gave it 3 stars, because this was not my typical experience there. read more

This was my first visit to this location. I love the one in Bernalillo and was near this location today at lunchtime. We were greeted and seated immediately. It took about 15-20 minutes for a waitress to approach us but once she did, it was a great experience. Our food came out quickly too so that was a plus. My enchiladas were sooooo good. I got one chicken and one beef and they were equally good. The seasoning was great on both and the meat was tender. I love their beans and rice and I don't usually like beans and rice. My friend ordered the grilled cheese with tomato soup and that was really good too. The waitress was so accommodating and it was a great meal! I'm dreaming about enchiladas tonight! read more

The range? More like the strange. The interior looks like dr. Seuss had a wild one night stand with Jon Wayne and then the lovechild went work in a dinner wearing every piece of tourqouis jewelry my grandma owns. So, yeah, it was charming as hail. Sometimes I wish Yelp had a increments of .25 on their rating system. I'd give this place a 3.75. I like The Range, but I don't love The Range. Service is always hit or miss. Depending on when you go, you might be waiting 20-30 minutes to get a table. This all sounds negative, but I've had more good experiences than bad. The reason I keep going back to The Range is the food. They have a unique breakfast and lunch menu that sets it apart from most of the breakfast/lunch restaurants in ABQ. They have HUGE portions that can be split between two people. I enjoy coming here for breakfast. My favorite dishes are The Range Roundup or the NM Benny. The chorizo hollandaise sauce on the NM Benny is so good! Don't forget to order dessert. Right when you walk in there is a display case with a bunch of their desserts. Only 2 stars today. The Belgium waffle came with partially cut up strawberries, and no syrup. I had to crush the strawberries myself. Had the basic with chorizo. It was good. Chorizo wasn't too greasy and it was flavorful. A good compliment to my eggs and potatoes (Range Fries). Hubby had Papas con Carne with carne adovada. I wasn't in the mood for red meat so I ordered guacamole salad and a tuna melt sandwich. The guacamole was boring and too much onion waaay too many chips for the scant serving (~$6) of guacamole. Tuna melts and onion rings, if properly prepared, can be very good. The tuna was cold, not much cheese and the onion rings were greasy, cold and limp. This is the first and last dinner I'll have there. Stick with breakfasts....the are good at that. Interesting how they advertise the tuna as " line caught ". I took my wife to this restaurant for Mother's Day. Even though it was super busy, the service we received was still excellent. We ordered the nachos appetizer and my wife claims they were the best she's ever had. I had the combination platter. The beef enchiladas and chicken tacos were delicious. The Chile relleno was disappointing. The pepper was much too fiberus and really difficult to cut and chew. The ambiance was nice and I really would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice family outing. read more

Oh my; this is a place that several are probably missing out on!! The Green Chili stew is the BEST thing on the menu; has some spice and heat but it is to die for! My daughter had the Tomato Basil and it was also great; little sweetness in the tomatoes made it one of the best I've had. The there's the desserts... Too many choices!
