Excellent food. Hostess wasn't super friendly but our waitress was great. Loved the aesthetic of the space and overall had a great meal. It's rare that we, a carnivore and a vegan can find a place that serves excellent food for BOTH of us but The Rarebit did not disappoint. He said his chicken sandwich was the second best he's had in his life, very well seasoned and melt-in your mouth tender. The vegan BBQ jackfruit sandwich exceeded my expectations. I asked for some pickles on the side (which were fantastic) but I didn't even need them as the flavors were perfect on their own. Our toddler enjoyed the sautéed green beans which I sampled and found quite nice. My boyfriend wanted to go back and have the same meal for dinner, which is a win in our book! A great place for differing palates to come together. Our ONLY qualm might be that the fries were a bit over salted, but we both cleaned our plates so, it really wasn't a big deal. We were heading out on a Thursday night before catching the comedy show down at the River dog Stadium. we were trying to think of something that we could grab that wasn't gonna be overly heavy, but also that was gonna be very satisfying. My wife had checked out, rarebit a few times and said that she thinks there were a couple things that I would enjoy on the menu. she nailed it because I am a BLT fanatic. The last couple places that we've been have offered up some of the saddest most depressing BLTs that I've ever had. I had to double check with the waitress and say hey BLT good and she let me know that it was amazing thick tomato slices. Thick cuts of bacon, crispy, lettuce everything I need and have it delivered I was very satisfied. I also thought it was very cool that they had a nonalcoholic ginger beer on tap. it was very refreshing and I enjoyed it very much. The restaurant itself is very cute. It's right off of King Street so it's right off in the middle of anything that you could be doing for the rest of your night. All of the food was absolutely delicious! The cocktails were divine. There was nothing we tried that wasn't absolutely delightful. The mac & cheese is so good. My chicken & waffle was so flavorful. The staff was learning the ropes, but they were polite. We were there during the recent freezing cold weather. The front curtain by the door was open and we asked multiple times for them to close it, and it was still only partially closed. And with a table near the front, that was frustrating. Our waitress was not very friendly and overall had an attitude of not wanting to be there. It was uncomfortable. The food was awesome though! It came out quickly. We stopped by this cool bar while on a foodie tour and were offered a bite sized shrimp po boy and a bite size chicken and waffle. Both were very good - but the real treat was the mules. They are known for their mules here and we understand why. The mules are batch made, but that's ok, you'd never know. They are very refreshing, tart, and have the perfect ginger "zing". Both the traditional mule and the seasonal (June) rose water mules were great. The rose water mule was just a tad less tart and had the slightest hint of rose water. I likely would have even like a little more rose water flavor. We did end up coming back towards the end of our trip for another cravable mule and we shared a shrimp po boy. The bread was aoft and fresh, it had lightly breaded fresh shrimp, lettuce, tomato and an aioli type sauce. Very good. No side come with the sandwich. We missed happy hour by a few minutes - but if you are looking for a deal they do a 4-7pm (weekday only) happy hour for drinks and they are well worth the price. The menu is not overwhelming, and offers some fun pub style and low country offerings. The owner was pleasant to staff and welcoming to patrons as he also worked hard behind the bar. You can tell he really takes pride in this great establishment that is loosely designed after a love for greyhound dog racing. read more

The wait for a table was 35 minutes and we couldn't wait so the hostess suggested we eat at the bar. After 5 minutes, the bartender gave us a QR code for the menu and did not say hello or I will be with you in a minute. We looked at the menu and decided what we wanted and tried to get her attention. No one gave us eye contact or no water. All of the bar staff ignored us. After sitting at the bar for 15 minutes, and watching the bartenders drink a shot, we decided we were not going to get served at all and left the establishment. In the mood for seafood, I saw a sign out front of Rarebird for red snapper and couscous salad special. Hmm...intrigued...look at Yelp, okay I'm in. It's a little before 7 pm on Thursday night and there's a small crowd. I take a seat at the bar and notice the happy hour drink specials. That explains the small crowd. I asked what's the local draft. Only one. The name is stated. It's a long name. It's a saison. Works for me. The menu has a good mix of options from lighter fare to sandwiches to entrees. Breakfast is also served all day. The red snapper still calls to me, so the blue plate special it is. Beer arrives. It's lighter, but has a strong bitter taste. The only small qualm I had with it was that it was pretty small and I wasn't really full afterward.
