I would never have found this place if it wasn't for yelp and the Yelp Geek Out Event. It's a large room with tons of big tables, lots of games you can grab off the shelf to play with friends and/or strangers. I honestly didn't recognize any of the board games (but I'm also not a super geek nor do I pretend to be). We ended up playing Cards Against Humanity with a large group. It was a lot of fun! They offer a variety of local beers, some snacks and the staff are super nice! Apparently there's the actual game store just a few blocks down the street if you want to purchase any of the games you played. It's kind of a great way to test some games out before you buy it. My only "thing" was there was the one bathroom shared between two businesses. The bathroom said vacant though the door was locked & the business gives you a key to access the bathroom. There's a stall and urinal -- unisex obviously (kind of gross for a lady to be honest but good they have toilet seat covers). I was waiting outside in the hallway in line and apparently there was someone in the stall when one of the guys came out of the bathroom from using the urinal. I thought the guy was joking when he told me since it was the second time I was using the restroom for the night (TMI, but yeah), anyway someone was already in there. They need to fix this somehow because if both businesses have a key and the bathroom says vacant you could easily walk in on someone as I sort of did. Embarrassing for both parties to say the least! I LOVE THE RAYGUN!! This place is great to hangout and play a few rounds of any assortment of their boardgames. The selection of food and drinks are well chosen(mini pies!) and no one is ever trying to push you out for space. It's nice that they offer decent non-alcoholic drinks so you don't feel like such a prude for trying to stay sober through an intense game of Dominion and then there are games where you want to drink... like CAH. Such a fun place to hang out and chill! My parents and I were visiting Seattle and had exhausted all of the typical tourist activities (space needle, harbor tour, oysters, etc) and we play Settlers of Catan as a family regularly, so I was looking for a game board cafe of sorts. Fortunately I found raygun! My dad also used to play pinball as a kid, so he was having a blast playing and teaching me and my mom how to properly tilt the machine without the machine thinking you're tilting the machine. I called ahead and would recommend to do so as the staff can easily tell you if they're busy or not for the day/night. We ordered one drink each and ended up staying a few hours playing catan and pinball. Highly recommend as a break from tourist activities! read more

Raygun Lounge is a cool place to play board games and hang out with friends who like to play board games. There are just a few shortcomings that could be improved upon. The food and drink selection is not great. The drink selection is definitely better than the food selection, but both are pretty limited. And pricey. But I can understand why... kind of. The seating is pretty limited, especially on nights when there is an event going on. I came when there was a Magic: The Gathering tournament of some sort, and there was really only enough seating for a handful of non-Magic people. And of course, along with the crowdedness came the stuffiness and BO. The bathroom is slightly creepy and very dirty. Kind of to be expected. The game selection is pretty impressive, though. The place is getting better in my opinion but the size is still at let down. The pinball machines and the classic arcade machines are a joy to see. The 6 large tables with bench seats was a poor choice. You can't really get a group of friends together without being in each others way at times. The food selections is small and could be so much better. Get a crockpot for some soup next to grill cheese offering at the very least, add some bags snacks maybe and get a little creative. Cans of beer and grilled cheese doesn't seem like worth the trip with friend to Raygun unless you like in a dorm room on campus. Despite the rating, I have to say that I really love this place. It has a great set of games and it's a nice place to have some low key fun for those who like to play games. The main reason why I'm not coming here all the time is that I really dislike the food. I don't know where they get it, but I do think Raygun would do so much better by investing in some better food. I've been looking for a place with board games for a while and The Raygun Lounge was everything I was looking for and more. They have a really cool selection of games that I am excited to try and learn about. Today I played Settlers of Catan with some friends for hours and just hung out. We had such a great time! We were also able to get some beers too which was awesome. After we left we decided that this would be our go to hang out spot... we loved it that much! The vibe there is great and there is so much to do. Would definitely recommend if you are into board games! read more

"My dream come true" On one wall are lined up one flipper after the other cheerfully beeping and pinging, on the opposite side is a desk, with a drag queen behind it, whom plays with half the room a Game and the rest is sitting at their tables, happily playing some board games. I think about spending my whole trip in Seattle for a moment, but am immediately swept away by a friendly young lady who invites me to a beer and literally integrates me. I then landed at a table with 3 other vacationers from Kansas and we fought until 00:00 with a board game, which probably none of us understood. In short, it was awesome! read more

Me & my partner decided to visit this place which seemed cool at a glance but once you come inside, it all goes downhill from there. Our bartender, Ryan, felt the need to not only touch his nose with his entire hand while serving, but to scratch his head as well & touch the rim of the glasses with his fingers felt like pure disrespect. Such a cool place to meet new people, drink a decent cup of coffee, and discover new board games. I've been here at least 4 times in the past 3 months, and I live on the east coast. If you're a fan of Dungeons and Dragons, pathfinder, or any other Table Top game check out their cool dice assortment as well as the 75 cent prize machine the gives out random Table top game stuff. I got 3 figurines one of which was painted and a new dice bag. They have a selection of nibbles like pizza, cookies, etc... they have a decent selection of beer, and the americano I got was rather delicious. All in all give this place a shot it's super worth it. read more

Really cool place. It was fairly bright for a Friday night, but after walking in, I realized it's because a lot of patrons were playing board games! There were so many board games to choose from and ones you can buy as well. We got beers and headed to the arcade games. The games weren't super expensive, which was nice. The first was a shooting game, which we play several rounds of. Then we played pinball. I suck at pinball, but it was fun. There were about 10 pinball machines, all different kinds. They also had pacman. A lot of people poured in as we were leaving. It seemed like they were headed to play board games. The bartender/attendant was friendly and helpful. We stumbled across this place while looking for game and collectible stores in the area. It's barely visible from the street but for the small wooden sign in the sidewalk with a picture of Lost in Space style ray gun. It's a very dive feel with older, well used tables and benches. Setup is very conducive to tabletop gaming with groups of friends. There are games and collectibles along the walls, a small bar/grill in the back and a bunch of arcade and pinball machine. Cozy and almost always busy. The staff was super helpful. They don't have a huge selection in the way of food or drink, but they have a few things that are fun or interesting to try. I personally like the cream soda, and some of their specialty beers. Though the best thing about the place is that if you buy a drink or snack, they will let you and your friends loan a tabletop game (as many as you would like to try) to play. I've already picked up two of my own because I liked playing them so much. Which is also cool. If you play something you like and want to own, they'll order it and let you know when it arrives to come purchase. Aside from al of that they host plenty of events. DnD games, magic tournaments, smash brothers, etc. All in all I really enjoy this place. Been back several times and plan on becoming a regular! A SUPER fun and chill way to spend the night! And AFFORDABLE! There are a lot of board games and arcade games here and the price to play makes it accessible to all (even those on a budget). Right when you enter, there are a couple of large tables that have a $20 minimum food purchase, but if you venture just a wee bit further in you'll see lots of tables that are movable that have no minimum whatsoever. You just need to buy either food/drinks to rent a board game for however long you want. Everything on the menu is affordably priced. Ranging from $1-$4. Our small group of 3 just opted to share the popcorn ($3) - a generous bowl that kept us occupied as we spent about 2 hours here. Definitely worth it! It wasn't too crowded on a Saturday night and we didn't feel rushed at all to leave or to spend more than the $3 on the popcorn. Fun board game cafe with large tables that are perfect for groups. There aren't too many options for drinks if you're not feeling beer or alcohol but the coffee was decent. The place is also lined with arcade games that really take one back. Our cashier was infectiously friendly and didn't hesitate to recommend some fun two-player games for my friend and me. He seemed super knowledgable which was helpful since we hadn't heard of many of the games they had in stock. The Raygun Lounge is an amazing place. The tables are huge, the staff is incredibly nice, and the other customers are really friendly. This is the place to go to hang out with friends over a game or try to meet some new ones! From the moment I stepped into the place, the staff greeted me cheerfully and asked if I needed anything. I looked around and found that they had these sandwiches called naanwiches. I tried one of those; it was phenomenal! I highly suggest the Chicken Tikka Naanwich - that was the one I tried. I grabbed that and a coke and went to find a place to sit and eat. I found an empty table, which had to have been something like six foot wide and maybe four foot long. As I was eating my naanwich, a group of folks I didn't know asked if they could share my table with me. I agreed and they started playing Pandemic, a board game I like. Instead of just ignoring my existence, they started including me in their conversation and we ended up chatting and laughing for hours! I haven't had that much fun hanging out anywhere, let alone when I'm on my own. Seattle's not an easy place to find conversation with strangers, but it comes so easily there. I wish I could give this place five stars. I've been here twice, and I've had a great time with friends on both occasions. They have lots of great board games, food and drink and a moving dalek. The tables are great for large groups, and you can reserve space as well as drop in. The crowd is nerdy, which is awesome! I feel like I'm in my element when I arrive here! And now for the reason for 3 stars... The bathroom is shared by two spaces, both with keys to the place. It's unisex, with a urinal and a stall. The guy tending the bar was apologetic about it, and told me to watch out. I'm a girl. I've both walked in on men using the urinal AND had GROUPS of sketchy men come in while I was using the stall. To be quite frank, I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THE RESTROOM AT ALL and will probably only use it in the future when with by bf or friend. The lack of security is really worth two stars to me, because I feel like personal safety is a very big deal. If the system for using the bathroom is fixed (no keys, maybe?), I'd be happy to give this place five stars. :) I will definitely be returning, just with a bathroom buddy. read more

Came here during Pax and was treated rather rudely. We sat down at a table only one person was using (we got along pretty well and decided to play 7 wonders together) and my friend went to order a drink and rent a board game (free with purchase). We finish getting the game set up and we're abruptly told that we need to move because the table has been reserved. People were sitting at this table before us and we checked the signs on the table to make sure it wasn't in fact reserved. When we pointed this out they said they don't actually reserve tables they just kick people off tables instead. So we get kicked off and move to one of the tiny tables on the side that can't actually support the number of people who are showing up to meet up with the new guy we met. Same person shows up again later and tells us that if we want to keep a table we need to order something once an hour. We probably would've done that anyway but the employee was really rude about it. Then we were told that the drink my friend bought wasn't expensive enough to take a game out for free which honestly I didn't see any indication of when I looked at the menu earlier but regardless I don't see how it's our responsibility to make sure your employees know the rules of the establishment. It's not like we demanded a free game rental, it was offered. At this point I wasn't particularly inclined to buy something but I did want a drink so I look over by the bar and it's absolutely packed with more than a dozen people crowded over there. I wasn't going to keep everyone playing waiting 20 minutes while I got a drink so I decided not to. Later a friend told me that there wasn't much of a line at the bar and they just had customers over there crowding the bar and chatting with staff. You'd think they'd do something about this since there was pretty much no chance of getting to the bar through these people. Other notes: a friend got some food and said it wasn't very good, arcade games seemed pretty neat and the general decor is pretty nice. Game selection was pretty limited but decent. Place is rather small, I don't know why they booked so many events at once given the size of the place (there were 3 events going on at the same time when we showed up). So yeah I would avoid going back here if possible, there are much better places to go to. read more

A half basement nerd haven. The staff is friendly, the food inedible, the beers cheap, and the games plentiful. Bring your own if you don't like the selection and just enjoy meeting some like-minded geeks. As expected, the clientele is often more reserved than your average bar, but if I walk in and don't know anyone, I've always found I can sit at a table of strangers and join a game in progress. The bathroom isn't the worst I have been in (really, people, go to some dive bars to get some perspective!) but I can't understand why it is quite so dingy. The games are decently priced for a small store and I try to support the place by buying games here sometimes and by drinking as many beers as I think I can tolerate while still winning a round of Smash Up. I'm here most Tuesdays for a game night with coworkers and I never fail to have fun. Sometimes they have events and reserve some spots, but I've never had a problem finding booth space for myself and a few friends. I've closed the place down during an intense rounds of Power Grid more times than I care to admit. I wish the game rental selection was a bit broader - I'd gladly pay an additional fee to rent more games. As it stands, it costs $2 to rent a game, but the cost is deducted from your first drink, so it's basically free, which is nice. I feel like I glossed over this but it bears repeating: the food is unbearably bad. I've tried the pizza, the "crappy nachos", and a sandwich, and I've given up. It's just awful. Luckily there is food everywhere around it. I like to go down the street to grab some cheap tacos from [place name I can't recall] or sushi from Sushi Maki before heading in for an evening of dice rolling. I love this little dive. read more

I have been debating whether to write a review for this place for a long time. On the one hand, I want Raygun to succeed because they are one of the few places in Seattle to check out tabletop games in person, but on the other hand, they really miss the mark compared to the competition. When I used to live in Capitol Hill, Raygun and Gamma Ray were in two different locations and I swung by Gamma Ray once every few months to check things out. I bought thing sometimes to support my "friendly local game store" (FLGS), but I was always put off by how aloof - and sometimes condescending - the staff were. I'm not into MTG, which seems to be where a lot of their business comes from, and I don't look like the stereotypical gamer, I guess, so I tried to be understanding and continue to support them. Then, Phoenix opened a few blocks away, with comparable prices and much friendlier staff who always went out of their way to look things up if they either didn't know of or weren't carrying an item I wanted. I made it a habit to go there first, but Raygun was still the best place around me to grab a beer while I game. Then, I moved out of Capitol Hill and acquired a car, and suddenly, the hassle of finding parking in Capitol Hill drove me to other, further, places, such as Meeples, Mox, and The Dreaming. I still wanted to support Raygun for what it was, in the location it existed in, but for about 6 months, I found myself everywhere else. Que last Friday night, I happened to be in Capitol Hill for unrelated events and excitedly dragged the bf out to meet me at Raygun for drinks and games. We get there and I'm surprised - not unpleasantly so - to find that they've consolidated the stores. "Great," I think, "I bet they save on rent and people are inspired to buy things during gaming sessions!" Then I look around and see that there are much fewer tables now than there used to be. Two are taken up by two groups of 5 and the rest are arranged in a row in the middle of the store with reserved signs on them. Raygun's website still states there is room for 60 people, but I think consolidation must have cut that figure in half. Also, I'm sure this is not their fault, but it was stiflingly hot and it smelled pretty bad, like my old high school cafeteria. We inquire about the situation and learn that the tables are reserved for parties. The employee told us we could stay if we plan to be out before they began, but honestly, who goes to a gaming bar to have a quick drink-and-run? Now, I'm not going to blame this place for being busy, and the guy working last Friday was one of the friendliest I've encountered there, but I've concluded that this place is too small to reliably be a go-to gaming spot and too unfriendly to be my go-to FLGS. If I ever want to go there with a large group, great, I can make reservations, but for smaller groups, it seems like a better bet just to go elsewhere - someplace that smells better, has more room, and has more reliably friendly staff. So yeah, as much as it pains me to do this, the only way I can recommend Raygun is if you live within walking distance, purely for the convenience factor. If you're not within a few blocks, call ahead to make sure there's room! read more

It's a little unfair to rate this place after my first experience because when my friend told me we'd be going to a place "just like Cafe Mox", I was thinking it would have all the same attributes that made me adore Mox so much. Mmm, nooo. If I'd pay this place a compliment, this would be an ideal place to hangout if I were still in college and had nowhere to go to play board games and drink some beers. It's dingy, dark, and smells like a grandmother's closet. They have a fair beer selection, all bottles, and a sad two-choice food menu. Very underwhelmed, it took us a bit to get used to the surroundings, especially the three drunk men screaming and arguing with each other about the importance of understanding Star Trek... yikes. All in all, I'd go back just to play a few games if there's nowhere else to go, but if I'm recommending a fun spot to visit, this probably wouldn't be it. read more

I helped organize a work-related event here and overall, Raygun provided great service. There was one minor hiccup, but it was quickly fixed by the staff in the shop. Our group reservation was lost, despite having been booked a few weeks in advance. There seems to be a gap in communication between management and the shop's employees, but the employees in the shop did a great job of making sure we were accommodated despite the lost reservation. I really want to emphasize that the lady working there provided awesome service. Couldn't have been better! This is a nice space for a medium or large group to do tabletop gaming. They have a nice selection of beers and ciders available, along with some sandwiches and snacks for very reasonable prices. They have many board games available for anyone who wants to use them, so you don't have to bring your own. Like I said, service was awesome and patient despite being so busy. They have a neat little art gallery of video game and sci-fi art, which definitely made the shop have a more artsy feel to it. There are a few large booths and a number of long tables, so they are able to accommodate larger groups. read more

Great spot for the Yelp Geeks Out event. The location, right smack on Pine in Cap Hill, was perfect for bussers, walkers, or folks that planned to stop in before heading out for a late night. The space doesn't have the ambiance of Mox nor the size of AFK Tavern. But the central location and easygoing atmosphere are perfect for board game enthusiasts. In terms of food/beverage, they offer samosas, hand pies, and a selection of drinks. The samosa's were average and the hand pies very tasty. (Cherry was my favorite.) Raygun Lounge is affiliated with Gamma Ray Games (a game store one block away) and it succeeds as a homegrown, community gathering spot. They offer Magic tournaments, Warmachine, MtG tournaments, and other special events. I hope they succeed because its a nice casual spot for geeks. read more

Let me say this off the bat--I spent two fantastic evenings in the Raygun Lounge, I did not order food, I have no interest whatsoever in Magic: the Gathering, and I am a total Dungeons & Dragons freak. All of which is to say, this will not be an unbiased review, nor will it be comprehensive, nor will it be of much help to your average joe. Frankly, if you are an average joe, you have no business whatsoever in the Raygun Lounge. If, on the other hand, you love beer; you love role-playing, wargaming, or fantasy card games; and you want a cool place to indulge your guilty, nerdy pleasures, then Raygun Lounge is your nirvana (no Seattle pun intended). Raygun lounge is not exactly a store, but they sell games and gaming stuff. It's not exactly a bar, but they sell beer and food. And it's not exactly an arcade, though they have arcade games and pinball machines. What is it is the most eccentric, chilled, and enjoyable gaming store/bar/arcade I have ever been in. Everyone there was fantastically friendly, the beer was excellent, the atmosphere was mellow, and the church-pews turned into gaming tables were just plain awesome. They run beginners and advanced D&D games most nights, organized through the Seattle D&D Meet-up. Though I'm pretty sure that if I had just walked in and said "I've got a 20-sided and a 1st-level gnome Wizard, can I get my dungeon on?" someone would have shouted "hells, yeah!" And if you come to play, they provide DMs, fellow-players, dice, and figurines. Really, what more can one ask? If Gary Gygax were still alive, he'd probably be hanging out at the Raygun on a nightly basis, 'nuff said! read more

I won't lie - I have some nerdy, geeky qualities about myself. I like Star Trek: TNG, have a fondness for classic 70's game shows, and love board games. This place... makes me seriously question my nerdy geeky cred. I showed up for a trivia night with friends - and was instantly greeted by a 5-foot tall Dalek replica. (Apparently, he needed some repairs - I didn't see it in motion, but was told that it could meander around.) On the shelves are tons of board games - they lean more towards deeper strategy game titles, as opposed to things like Scrabble and Monopoly. The bar/trivia staff was ridiculously friendly - even offering up samples of cider for bonus opportunities. The place looks like it's either not quite finished or is being remodeled - and that's not a bad thing, because it adds to the charm of the place. Trivia was... however, not my strong suit. As an example: one of the categories was LARP. I have no idea what LARP is, and I'm sure that if I wondered that out loud, I'd be outed for sure. (That's "live action role-playing", BTW.) That's not to say I didn't have fun - because the atmosphere made up for my distinct lack of knowledge in the categories presented. I did redeem my geek cred towards the end, when I semi-successfully challeneged an answer based on information from the Star Trek Wiki. So, overall... it's not the crowd I typically I hang out with - but - they (the clientele and the staff) did make me feel at home, and I had a good time, even when I had no idea what was going on. Really, that's a good trait for any good business to have - making newbies feel at home along with the regulars. Can't beat that. read more

This was my first visit to a gaming bar. Why aren't there more of these!? Arcade games, board games, booze and food. How can you possibly go wrong? The game selection is large and the staff is incredibly friendly and willing to teach you any game you aren't familiar with or lend playing tips. The food and beer options are just enough for what you need. You don't come for a gourmet meal. You just want something quick and easy to nibble on while you play. The fact that they offer drinks and food is a bonus for me. I've never been crazy about the loud, impossible-to-hear, impossible-to-get-a-drink, chaos of the usual bar scene so this is definitely a cool spot for someone uncool like me. read more

This place is just great. Laid back vibe. All kinds of board games you can borrow to play with friends, or you can bring your own. They also sell a ton of games. If you're coming to play board games (or their old school arcade games) they have a surprisingly decent beer and cider selection (including some stuff on tap) and a surprisingly decent selection of pub snacks and small meals. Very friendly staff. It's just a wonderful nerdy place. Such a great part of the neighborhood. read more
