Inconsistent and disappointing. I've had good pizza from The Rectory before, but this experience was so bad that I wont be going back. I ordered two pizzas and breadsticks. The pepperoni was burnt, the dough was completely raw, and the pizza literally fell apart when I tried to pick it up. I spent $55 on carry-out and they even shorted me a side of ranch. I tried cooking the pizza at home, but there was no saving the slop they gave me. I emailed them about the experience 10 days ago and didn't even get a response. Charging $55 for pizzas this poorly made and then ignoring the customer afterward is unacceptable. Take some accountability! Go to Michigan and Trumbull or Grandma bobs if you want good pizza. Ordered a slice while walking around the garage sales in Boston-Edison. Seems like a cool spot. The slice itself was flavorful, once the cheese was pried free from the parchment paper, the cheese itself was a bit overpowering and too chewy for the type of crust they use, which couldn't quite support it. I'll have to try it again, but maybe ordering a whole pie will mitigate some of those logistical issues. read more

I knew from the minute we walked up that this was going to have some of the best pizza. We ended up with the pepperoni pizza which was delicious and cheesy. I have no idea why the photos don't look anything like how the pizza taste. The crust was a higher end dough that baked perfectly. This is a new favorite! We ordered this through Grub Hub. We got Farro which was not delivered so no review but I don't know who to blame for it. Pepperoni pizza with onions - 8/10 good enough, but a little salty Cheese bread - 5/10 The bread was chewy and they put garlic powder on it the baked it, the powder burnt and made it taste burnt Terra Bella - 1/10 Awful, burnt to hell and dry as a desert. Quiet and mixed precipitation kind os Saturday afternoon, decided to check this out. Parking well- we did go around the block a few times and finally found a spot. It's next store to the Congregation, a community spot. Pizza, Negronis, salads, and meatballs. We got the Bella Terra. No cheese and can add. Great combo of veg and it was delicious. We went here for an event they hosted for the holiday season. They were doing $5 bottomless hot cocktails. And it was a perfect day for it indeed! I'm talking Detroit in the middle of the winter and it's 19°. What better time to have a hot cocktail really? They offered tea, hot chocolate and coffee that could be spiked with everything from tequila to Bailey's. Also, the congregation was hosting a holiday bizarre in the basement right next-door so it was perfect to be able to dip back-and-forth between the small business owners downstairs to pick up trinkets and holiday items. Then you can come back over and get some hot chocolate re-upped with your favorite beverage and toppings from the bar. The toppings included toffee crunch, pirouette cookies and coconut. There were two or three different types of cold foam, they had lavender to infuse or peppermint if you prefer, I look forward to this event when they host it again cause you couldn't beat it for $5. read more

There is a takeout WINDOW in the front and the entrance to the small dining room inside is a door off of their back patio to the right of the building! Once you enter, it is absolutely darling on the interior. The service here was amazing, warm & cozy manor from everyone who waited on us! The food is incredible! One of the BEST Caesar salad s ive ever had is what we started with. Their cheese bread is delightful, baked perfectly with just the right amount of cheese. You cannot go wrong with any of their pizza specials but you can also build your own if you prefer. Thin pizza but with a fluffy crust and all of them are packed with flavor. Don't skip on their dessert either, they were featuring a pumpkin tiramisu when we visited and it was out of this world! This might be Detroits best hidden gem read more

Didn't have any cannolis on the menu, which I found funny considering the heavy Italian theme and decor. Server proceeded to tell us if we went to the bakery in mexican town, they had churros and they were "basically the same thing" Nothing says I'm painfully white and culturally unaware like saying "churros are cannolis". I still bring it up in conversation because I thought it was so bad/funny. Probably the dumbest thing I've ever heard a restaurant staff member say. Plus, the pizza was kinda mediocre! Good thing most of these white people are too scared to live anywhere else in Detroit and they all love pizza! I think the business model will be ok. read more

The Rectory is basically attached to the Congregation and essentially a part of it. Why they felt the need to create a separate entity I'm not sure, but it is basically a pizza and meatballs type place. You go up the the window and order and the about an hour later your food appears. The pizza is delicious, wood fired perfectly with toppings of your choice. The meatballs looked good even though I didn't try it myself. I'm going to go ahead and mention Congregation again because if you haven't been here it's really a something awesome you're missing. Tucked away in the Boston Edison neighborhood, they did an amazing job refurbishing the old church into a coffee and cocktail dishing wonderland. They do have food choices inside, and now of course the pizza and meatballs. A lot of indoor and outdoor seating, and usually some sort of live entertainment in the summer. I really wanted to love this place because the food itself was actually very good. Unfortunately, the service completely ruined the experience. My family came in to break our fast for Ramadan, which is the only reason we stayed despite everything. We politely asked if we could substitute a vegetable in place of meat on one of the menu items. We were told that was not possible and that we could only build our own pizza instead, which obviously makes it more expensive. We were not asking for anything complicated, just a simple swap. Being told flat out no without any willingness to accommodate was disappointing. What made it worse was the attitude that followed. Our server, Damia, who said she was the supervisor, became noticeably sarcastic after that interaction. It made the rest of the meal uncomfortable and unnecessarily tense. On top of that, it was extremely cold inside. The air was blowing directly on us and no one addressed it. Another waitress later told us we could adjust the vents ourselves so the air was not directly on us, which was far more helpful than anything Damia offered. Good food, but hospitality matters, especially when families are gathering for something meaningful. Sadly, the service overshadowed what could have been a great experience. read more

Unfortunately, this visit left us questioning whether we'd return. ## The Food We started with the Arugula Salad ($14), featuring pears, blue cheese, toasted sunflower seeds, and red wine vinaigrette. While the portion was generous enough for two, the salad arrived drowning in dressing. The pears were cut into small pieces and mixed with crumbled blue cheese, with one slice placed on top for presentation. Unless you enjoy soggy greens, I'd strongly recommend ordering the dressing on the side. For our main course, we ordered the small Sunday Sugo pizza ($18), described as red sauce, smoked meatballs, mozzarella, ricotta, and basil. The description promised more than the execution delivered. Instead of actual meatballs, we found small pieces of meat scattered across the pizza, and any hint of smokiness was completely absent. The pizza was merely OK--serviceable but forgettable. ## Pricing The pricing structure starts reasonably enough: specialty pizzas run $10 for four slices or $18 for eight. The atmosphere at The Rectory was cozy and comfortable, with plenty of space for our group of 16 ladies. We ordered a variety of dishes -- salads, pizzas, and the dessert pizza -- and everything was delicious. My personal favorites were the wedge salad and the Space Cowboy pizza.
