We ordered an Original Chicken Sandwich with fries and a Mild Chicken Sandwich. The restaurant was clean, and although we visited during lunchtime on a Saturday, it was surprisingly quiet. The fries were excellent and ended up being one of the highlights of the meal. I also liked the slaw, though it was a bit too peppery and spicy for my partner's taste. The Original came with cheese, while the Mild sandwich was noticeably larger but did not include cheese. I'm not sure whether the size difference was intentional or related to the different menu items. Unfortunately, the chicken itself was disappointing in both sandwiches. The meat was dry, and the coating was not to our liking. It almost felt like a thin sheet wrapped around the chicken rather than a crisp, flavorful crust. The chicken breast was also underseasoned and lacked much flavor on its own. The bread was only lightly warmed and could have benefited from a proper toasting. Nothing was particularly bad, but nothing stood out either. Aside from the fries, the meal felt fairly forgettable, and it's probably not a place I'll revisit.

First off, the customer service here is amazing, which is something a lot of places now a days miss. This place blew us away. So glad that it's so close to where we live too. Onto the food, it's perfectly done. Best chicken I've had in a while and everything is seasoned to perfection. Really excited to go back but our first time there was a 10000/10 experience.

Was craving some fried chicken and had not been to a Red Bird before so why not give it a try? Located in the same location as the legendary Dude Where's My Curry (RIP) it is very clean inside and you will be greeted with some great customer service. Any questions will be answered right away. Pretty good Halal chicken sandwich if you ask me. Several spice levels so if you love heat they can accommodate but if you aren't a fan of spicy then they have that as an option too.

The service was nice and the inside was clean but I wouldn't come back for food. Got the medium spice bowl and the rice was disappointing. So bland and flavorless. The lettuce was old and wilted and turning pink. Just ate the chicken and left cause why eat boring tasting carbs.

I was craving hot chicken sandwich, so we decided to try this place. It was very clean and spacious. The cashier was very helpful and recommended 3 items on the menu that is a must try. So we ordered the #2 which is 2 hot chicken sandwiches with fries, the chicken cheese fries, and the halal chicken rice bowl. They offer a 6 levels of spice. We tried the mild and medium levels. When out order came out, I was so shocked to see the size of the chicken sandwich. The chicken was HUGE!!! And I've been to a lot of hot chicken sandwich spots and this place has to be the best prices that I've ever seen. My favorite was the rice chicken plate. The white sauce is sooo tasty! Overall, I would give this place a 9/10.

These days, the LA / OC chicken sandwich contest is pretty much at MMA main event level. A field of heavyweights scrapping for honor, where any new upstart has to be perfect or they're only seconds away from a firm size nine and the hazy sound of a bell accompanied by some tasty canvas. I'd been looking forward to bringing Red Bird into the fray for a while after hearing good things locally, and I had high hopes when my partner and I visited for a midweek dinner. The location has plenty of parking, and was empty when we arrived. The music was pretty loud but just below obtrusive, with speed garage playing from the main speakers. Somewhat annoyingly though, it clearly wasn't to the chef's taste, and the R&B blasting from the kitchen somewhat clashed tempo-wise. The counter staff were great, taking time to go through the entire menu in a way that would've been super helpful to the less initiated (chicken nerd ego claim lol). The prices were very reasonable too, and the portion sizes huge - especially with the 'divide and conquer' #2 meal that contains not one but two chicken sandwiches and a heap of very enjoyable crinkle-cut fries (with a lovely honey mustard dipping sauce that was probably the highlight of the lot). Sadly though, the sandwiches were only 'pretty good', and around here that's mid-pack at best. A reliance on Serrano peppers in the slaw leads to a hint of bitterness across the entire bite in the milder chicken flavors, although it does sit well at X-hot level and might be enjoyable to some. Spice-wise, the scale seems to sit a step or maybe even two steps lower than comparable restaurants in the area. The smaller sandwich size might be helpful to those with lesser appetites, and points are gained for them being a bit less oily too, but it did lead to the occasional drier bite when compared to its gigantic 'two-hand-hold and wonder how big the cluckin' bird must have been' local competition. In summary, I'd still recommend that any fried chicken fan should give Red Bird a try. It's certainly not bad by any stretch, I just expected a bit better than I got. I'll likely go back for their loaded fries - which I expect to be a highlight - and a FCK (their top) level sandwich soon. I'm also the kind of boring fried chicken nerd willing to ride 50 miles for the best sandwich rather than settling for what's closest, so bear that in mind here too.

We saw the great reviews and decided to try this place. I'm soo sorry but it was not for us at all!! Friendly service. However the chicken did not meet expectations. I personally liked the flavor somewhat, and it was juicy, however it was not crunchy at all! My breading fell off on each bit. The flavor was a little sweet. My medium had not heat and the hot had a tiny bit. Since it's halal, does it mean it's not crispy? Not sure but we will stick to Dave's hot Chicken. Nephew thought his was crunchy but he didn't like the flavor. The fries were good though! Not for us unfortunately.

This is a cool new spicy chicken sandwich spot! If you're looking for a break from the usual chicken sandwich picks, The Red Bird is coming straight from the east coast with halal chicken and it's crispy and delicious. Personally, I loved the chicken cheese fries, the portions are HUGE, enough for leftovers! And their tenders are equally as big and honestly worth a try! I got one of their medium spice chicken sandwiches and man, it was the perfect amount of heat. Very manageable and still flavorful which I really appreciated!

I've been seeing great reviews on Yelp and other platforms for this newly opened restaurant so I had to try it. It's a light, bright and super clean spot. I was greeted enthusiastically by Jay who was super friendly and helpful explaining the options. I went with the two sandwich and fries option since that seemed to be the go-to order. I got the original and medium spice. The size of the chicken was huge. I honestly could've just had one, in fact I couldn't finish the French fries after eating both sandwiches. They were delicious and had just enough spice. I will certainly be back.

The portion sizes are large and the prices seem almost too good to be true in this economy. Being a brand new restaurant, the staff are upbeat and eager to please. The chicken cheese fries had great flavor, and the spice level is below average. I normally get hot, but I'd go for extra hot here. It's a shame that another reviewer docked stars for the spice levels. It's not the restaurant's fault that you can't handle MILD spice. Being right down the street from my house, I'll put this place in my regular rotation for eating out. Cheers!

For someone like me who has low spice tolerance, a hot chicken place is not on the top of my list, although such places have a "mild" option which I can enjoy. But this place's "mild" was too hot for me to handle. I came for lunch during their soft opening. Their customer service was superb, very friendly. I went to the counter and ordered their #1: two chicken strips (I chose mild) with fries, which also came with toast and a tiny side of slaw. They have a fridge with canned and bottled sodas so I also got a can of ginger ale and took a seat at one of their tables. The wait was really long but I'm not dinging them on that since they were slammed and, as mentioned, they were in their soft opening and still finding their rhythm. My food was delivered to my table. The fries were excellent as was the dipping sauce. The toast was soggy but good. The chicken was juicy and good quality. The coating was another story. One bite and my eyes watered while my tongue was on fire. Maybe they put the wrong spice level on it? Or if this is their mild, this is not the place for me. Luckily the coating flaked off easily; each poke with a fork caused it to crumble. For most customers this might be a bad thing but for me it was wonderful! A few more pokes with the fork and all the coating was completely off and I could easily eat the uncoated chicken. The combination of a guy who can't handle heat and the fact that I ate there during their soft opening clearly puts The Red Bird at a disadvantage for being reviewed by me. I'll freely admit that and point you to other reviews for (most likely) better experiences.

I work in an office in the same area as RedBird and my coworkers and I love it! The manager, Jay, is always kind and courteous, he calls us his "favorite online people" The food tastes great, the prices are super fair and all of the staff are amazing. Highly recommend! read more

Went here with my boyfriend for the first time & def gained some new customers! Got recommended this place on our insta & my brothers, who've recently tried it. When entered, we were greeted right away & helped out momentarily. There was plenty of sitting & great service! The awesome worker, who helped us was pretty patient--sadly didn't get his name. We ordered the Red 2 & 4 to-go, which was more than we imagined eating when we opened the box at home. We can tell that the coleslaw is homemade & it was crunchy good! Everything we ordered was mild since we didn't know how their spices tastes like, but it wasn't spicy at all, so definitely spice up the level to medium or hot--if you want a kick. At the register, we also noticed they were selling red hot tacos too & maybe we'll try that next time too! read more

Best Hot Chicken in Town - Red Bird Beats Them All! I'm not even a big hot chicken guy, but Red Bird changed the game for me! The sandwich with cheese? Next level. The mac and cheese is off the chain, and don't even get me started on the toffee cake crazy good! The vibes here are unmatched. Super friendly staff, and the owner is one of the coolest people you'll meet. My son is literally here daily now we live down the street and can't stay away! Forget Dave's or Cane's... this place blows them out of the water. No joke. 100% recommend! read more

Tried Redbird in Foothill Ranch for the first time and was super impressed. The place is close by, prices were surprisingly cheap for how good the food was, and the service was quick and friendly. I got the chicken sandwich and fries #5-- fries were perfectly crispy, and the chicken was super tender and juicy. You can tell they actually cook things fresh here. The portions were solid too, definitely worth the price. It's nice having a spot this good so close to home. Definitely coming back soon! read more

The greeter / worker, Jay, was the highlight. Super helpful in explaining the menu and delivering the food. But the food is merely average at best. Fries were cooked in old oil and had clearly been sitting out. Spice levels on chicken are less hot than other chains and each level does have a distinct taste (we tried medium, extra hot and the F levels). Chicken was also pretty greasy tasting. Net-net, was hoping for a better experience in terms of the food since the service was so excellent. read more

The best chicken in Lake Forest, hands down. The chicken cheese fries are literally a MOUND of fries, cheese, sauce, seasoning, and other deliciousness. It's so big that my partner and I share one order and are still STUFFED. I had never tried halal chicken before so at first I was nervous, but it was so tender the skin was literally falling off the tenders, and they don't sacrifice flavor for spice. To make it better, the staff are all genuinely the kindest and most patient. They walk every new customer through their menu and help people make choices that would really suit them well, ensuring everyone is aware of what they're getting, down to the ingredient. I discovered this place last weekend, and it might just become my new local favorite. The menu is similar to Dave's Hot Chicken. The vibe is fun and vibrant, and the staff was extremely friendly and engaged. I loved that they offer four sauces to complement the chicken and fries. My favorite was the white sauce for the tenders, while the red bird sauce paired nicely with the fries. My older son particularly enjoyed the yellow armadillo sauce on his chicken. It was great that they leave a bottle out for sauce refills. There are several heat options available. My family opted for the mild and medium heat levels, but I really enjoyed the extra hot. I did notice that the breading didn't adhere well to the chicken, as mine broke apart too easily. However, this didn't affect the flavor or the juiciness of the chicken inside. I hope they can improve this soon. I enjoyed my first experience so much that I returned within a few days, but this time the staff wasn't as engaged, and they had removed the sauce refill bottles. When I asked for more sauce, the associate seemed irritated by my request. I hope they can address this inconsistency in service levels in the future. Consistency is key to customer retention and growth. read more

I can see why this place has all 5 star ratings. I came across this restaurant while looking for some places near by to get lunch. It was only a mile away from home, so not a big time investment to try it. When I walked in, I was greeted by (whom I assume was the owner) Mustafa. He was very cordial and welcoming. I ordered my food, and decided to have a conversation with him while waiting for my food. We discussed the importance of having good consistent food, without gimmicks or fluff. So far, he hit the nail on the head with this place. I ordered the two chicken sandwich w/fries plate. They have multiple heat levels to their chicken sandwiches. I ordered hot, which was in the middle of their range. The sandwich was juicy, tender and flavorful The heat level was good for me, it was hot, and I have the forehead sweat to prove it ;-) . There were pickles and coleslaw on the sandwich that really rounded the flavors out. Fries were done properly and were served hot and fresh. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. They've only been open for a month, but I have a great feeling they will be around for a long time. It was a great find. Keep up the good work! read more

Yesterday I visited The Red Bird for the first time and I'm so glad I did. I was searching up lunch deals near me and was drawn in by the price of their chicken sandwich. A simple sandwich no fries no drink! Perfect for me. I usually grab some McDonalds or something near me but the chicken is never good quality and I end up spending close to 10$ Let me tell you the quality here is insane!!!! I ordered a Hot chicken sandwich with lettuce and pickles the chicken was Juicy fresh and well spiced the lettuce was fresh the pickles are crisp and the bun was soft and warm! I ordered for pickup and it ended up sitting down and eating it inside! I ordered another sandwich for my coworker and she thought it was FANTASTIC it was still hot and fresh 15 minutes later when I got to my office. We will be returning forsure! You can't beat a fresh halal chicken sandwich for under 6$ it's worth it! Try it! read more

I started going to The Red Bird about 1.5 month ago, went straight for the spiciest chicken on the menu and I wasn't disappointed! This dry rub is pretty addicting and couple that with the homemade coleslaw, it's amazing. The chicken is always very moist and so easy to eat, pretty healthy option if you want to watch your calories, and it is very affordable overall. I love the little team they have there, everyone is very friendly and looking for new ideas to grow the business, I find it really cool ! Now my family and I are going there at least 2 times/week if not more. Please give it a try! read more

First and foremost, absolute rockstar at his job, I could probably explain what's on the menu after listening to this man say it once he did so well for our first time visiting. Man running it down for us was Jay, stellar personality and if I open any form of business I'd want him as the face of my company. The first and last person you interact with, he personally made it the last place we will eat at before we head back to the airport at the end of our vacation. Secondly, oh my goodness the food is amazing. My wife loved her meal and they made wonderful accommodations for her requests with zero issues at all. Made us feel like we belonged there eating that meal and no where else. The kids loved their food and even said the flavor was amazing and they'd go a step up on spice next time because they're so used to places that just burn you instead of give you flavor from the peppers. The four of us ate A LOT of food for about 10-15 dollars a person (with drinks) To wrap it up, 100/10 Jay the man, food worth coming back multiple times on one vacation for. My friend had told me about this new spot which is a little far from where I live so I was hesitant coming due to the drive but I'm SO glad I came. The chicken was phenomenal, juiciest chicken, amazing flavors, great prices & they offer different sauces. I absolutely love how you can choose the heat on the chicken , ended up getting medium & hot . I got the chicken cheese fries and wow they pack the box so full some places don't do this . I had to come see what the hype was about since I couldn't find any negative reviews, and it did not disappoint!! Ordered the Red's 2 which comes with 2 Chicken sandwiches and a side of fries, also got some Mac n Cheese. Spicy levels Hot and Xtra Hot. I've tried numerous other hot chicken places, and this one takes the podium for 1st place. Normally, I always find something wrong with my chicken quality at other places (such as tendons, or just questionable chicken pieces) but not once here did I find anything negative about the chicken quality! The fries were super good too, and I asked for melted cheese on top. Mac n Cheese was alright, nothing bad but nothing special! Overall, I'll definitely be coming back. This place deserves its accolades, and I hope it continues to get the business it so very deserves! read more

Second time ordering here. Would definitely recommend ordering ahead if possible, as it might take a bit to prepare since everything is made to order. Quality of chicken is good, but it's not very spicy even at the highest spice level. Don't compare to Dave's or other hot chicken places, it's got its own thing going on. Would consider going here more if they made the spices actually spicy. read more

Nothing more to say than DAMN thats some good chicken. I left wanting more. Everyone there is super friendly and helpful. The place is clean, outdoor seating was especially nice! I had the hot chicken sando and it was fire, the Cole slaw set it off. My girl and I shared some mild chicken fries. The seasoning is off the chain!! The kids enjoyed some OG tenders and fries. Everyone was happy and full!! You can't beat the price! If i was in the area often this would be the GO TO lunch spot!! read more

I tried the new hot chicken location in foothill ranch. It's a small place with about 8 tables for 2 so not much seating. I showed up at 12:40ish on a Friday. There weren't any tables available but you order at the counter so I said I'd have my food to eat in hoping things would turn over. Turns out there were several to go orders queued up and people were waiting at tables for their food. Two tables were used up by people interviewing with the manager. When the food did get done (about 20 minute wait) it was good. I chose the hot level of spice 4th on the spectrum. That was just right. Not too crazy of a menu, chicken strips or chicken strips on a bun for a sandwich. Fries and coleslaw seems to be the standard. Food was good but management should be better at understanding the needs of customers waiting. Food gets 4 stars, wait and poor seating management gets 2 read more

Very friendly service. Chicken was over done and dry. Fries had a lot of grease. There was a huge fan running as air conditioning was not working. I felt badly for the workers on an extremely hot day having to work under those conditions. Hoping from the other reviews it was a an off day. I do agree the mild spice is still spicy so be advised if you try. Overall disappointing. read more

Extremely good experience! My partner and I wandered into The Red Bird in Lake Forest last weekend, and we were blown away! We were Red-Bird first-timers, and the manager, Jay, spent time meticulously walking us through the menu. Jay's descriptions were on point, and the food was absolutely delicious! When I commented on how good the food was to Jay, the way he responded made me think maybe he was the owner. It's so special to have that kind of service (accompanied by such savory flavors). This was a real treat at an affordable price. We hope Jay and his store are recognized for the pride they take in what they do. If this was the show "Undercover Boss," I would definitely put Jay on a track toward ownership. read more

Kind of pains me to review it like this. The employee behind the counter was exceptional. He provided a high level of service, was friendly, and just all around an awesome dude. However, the issue is the food. I got the chicken sandwich and French fries. The chicken sandwich even looks off. Looks more like fish than chicken and presents with no crispiness. The flavor is mediocre and doesn't beat Dave's Hot or really any other chicken place. One again, it's a shame as the service is quite good. read more

The chicken sandwich was juicy and the cut was thick. The fries are cross cut tempura battered, and the brick style includes the mom's special sauce, grilled onions, and cheese. If you look at the menu from years past, you'll see that the price has only changed by $1 in the past 5 or 6 years. It's very impressive that they can keep the prices low so the average joe isn't priced out of a humble burger joint. Much respect to the family that owns this place. Y'all just earned a customer for life.

First, if you guys are paying $20 for a small tiny container of butter chicken in LH please please do yourself a favor and go try Southern Spice. Their flavors are mouthwatering and the portion is huge. I understand inflation but this is ridiculous and the flavor is blah. It's like there is no spices in there at all just butter and tomato sauce AND the kicker...no rice! Super weird to me that they do not automatically give you rice! Like who just orders butter chicken or any Indian,Chinese, Korean dish for that matter without rice! I mean rice has to cost you guys a pretty small fraction no? Just give people 1/2c of rice! If not, at least you should make note of that on your menu so people know ahead of ordering. The garlic Naan is decent really no complaints there, the Mango Lassi they gave me was the size of a kiddy cup (see photo) Literally a child's sippy cup is bigger than what I received for $5 insane! And just to make matters worse, when I opened by bag they placed my gelato directly on top of the hot food! So when I took it out, it had completely melted. $10 for melted pistachio creamy soup, just what I wanted. You guys have to do better for your customers. I get the price increases but for what you are giving and the immense amount of lack of flavors...is wild. Save your money, drive a little bit further and eat some true Indian food in Irvine/Tustin cause this place is not it. The pictures posted are truly beautiful but pictures are not everything especially when it comes to food quality and flavor. Both dishes were delicious. The curry was rich and flavorful, and the beef was stewed beautifully until tender. The roti was a little on the greasy side, but still enjoyable. The pad see ew was especially good and very satisfying. One thing to note: even the mild spice level had a noticeable kick in both dishes, so keep that in mind if you are sensitive to spice. Their chicken nuggets were also fantastic, packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. The chicken bowl was another standout and made for a hearty, satisfying meal. A special shoutout to Jay, the manager, for providing exceptional customer service. I can be a little indecisive when it comes to spice levels, and Jay was incredibly patient with me. Tried halal fried chicken for the first time at The Red Bird and it definitely did not disappoint. The chicken was super fresh, crispy, and full of flavor, and the fries were honestly one of our favorite parts because they were perfectly seasoned and crispy. The vibe inside was really nice with good music playing, the spot was clean and comfortable, and there was plenty of parking which made it super convenient. Absolutely fire The chicken is insanely crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with the perfect amount of seasoning. I ordered the hot chicken sandwich and it did NOT disappoint -- great spice, great flavor, not just heat for the sake of heat. Fries were fresh and crispy, and the sauce tied everything together perfectly. Portions are solid for the price and service was fast and friendly. Definitely one of the best hot chicken spots around. Just tried out the red bird for the first time and all I can say that I am satisfied with my meal. I ordered two sandwiches fries and extra sauce. The chicken was so tender and juicy.
