This is as good as it gets for a coffee shop. Can't recommend for meeting up with someone, hanging out, studying, or just for the coffee. I got the iced Persian, and it was fantastic. There's more than enough seating, including a raised lounge area with couches and outside seating as well. Several seats near wall outlets and they even have a couple of extension cords too which is nice. Bathrooms are down a separate hallway, but close. My only complaint is that the wifi constantly drops my computer. I can always get back on it, but it's just annoying to have to manually reconnect to the network every 15 minutes or so. Whenever I go searching for a local cafe to do work, I always find myself back here. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is perfect for a coffee date with a friend or for serious work. I always get a mocha soy latte with half the syrup and no whip cream. I've had almost everything on the menu. Crepes are awesome. So is the potato soup. Scones are to die for. What an awesome find. The coffee was so good and the sandwich I got was amazing. A panini with avocado bacon egg and roasted peppers. Many locals having morning Joe and very friendly. I loved the fact they are environmentally sound as they used spaghetti for coffee stirred. There were dogs outside so I assume that they are dog friendly which is a plus for me. I was traveling through and this was a gen to find. Very hip and laid back. There was a farmers market nearby we walked to which was a great find as well. Very quaint shop. Amazingly friendly staff. After reading how they are farm to table even with the coffee, being from California, I had to try it out. The coffee isn't bad. Its a little over roasted for my taste and quite acidic. But the flavor isn't bad at all. The layout of the place is great for a meeting or a friendly gathering or just to get some work done solo. I wasn't hungry when I walked in; My friend wanted coffee and I figured they would have iced tea. Then I saw the cookie. Then I saw the croissant. Then I saw "Bacon Cheddar Croissant" My mind was made up. The tea was great - sweet but not toothaching. The cookie was warm and fork-chewy. I stumbled into the railroad park location this Saturday afternoon for a cup of spicy hot chocolate and a slice of their zucchini bread. I am truly blown away by the quality of the hot chocolate and it is truly one of the best cups I have had in my life. This cafe adds the perfect spice blend to give their hot chocolate a unique and fantastic taste. The zucchini bread was also pleasant and surprisingly moist given that there had been hours since it had been baked. I was disarmed at the $4.50 price point for a single slice of a loaf cake though. From the COVID-19 perspective, I am unsure whether or not the tables in the restaurant were actually socially distant and I would personally be nervous to drink in the restaurant. From a sustainability perspective, the plastic wrap around the baked goods could be exchanged for paper bags. It may actually also save the ae some money if they adopted a program that some other cafes have that gives customers a discount if they bring their own mugs. read more

As I briefly visit the City of Birmingham ever few weeks, I like to take my brand of Coffee tourism to this locale as I do pretty much everywhere else I go. Having tried Urban Standard, and being generally disappointed by the place, I determined to try a second Birmingham shop, and chose the Red Cat, relatively close to UAB and just over the track from downtown. And, as a coffee place goes, it's not bad. It's got better coffee and better service than Urban Standard. The place isn't packed and slow. The Barista was knowledgeable and aware of his craft, and the experience was prompt. It's hard to ask for more in an experience like that. This is definitely worth the check out in downtown Birmingham. read more

I love Red Cat. In fact, I'm sitting here contemplating the 20 minute drive for an Abyssinian before they close at 2 today. I've also had their crepes, which are fluffy and very tasty. My husband and I got the one with blackberries, walnuts and marscapone last weekend. If you go on a weekend that the Pepper Place Market is on, be prepared to stand in line for a while. Had high expectations because of good reviews, but the quality of the food fell short (can't speak for the coffee drinks). The chicken panini was very mediocre, with nothing wrong but it was just unseasoned precooked chicken, salad leaves, and a piece of provolone cheese. My friend ordered the Dutch panini, and it consisted of a too-thick crepe, fake bacon (the crumbled stuff they sell at grocery stores in the salad isle), and unmelted shredded gouda, and raw tomato...so he was basically eating a bad salad. Won't be returning for food, but maybe I'll give their coffee a try. read more

First trip to Birmingham ever. Saw this while driving down the street and my buddy thought it was a different cafe. We parked and walked in and realized it wasn't what we thought but stayed in anyway. From what I was told this area was currently gentrified and it used to be quite sketchy. Basically, an investor or someone decided to spruce up the building and expose the charm of this old building (probably 1920's if not older). This cafe has charm for days and is just crazy comfy. My only drawback, I don't recall any music playing over house speakers and what's a coffee shop without music? They make a variety of hot and cold beverages and they roast their own coffee! Everyone there was genuinely friendly and their beverages were tasty. They also serve a variety of sandwiches and baked goodness. I want to say we sat in there 30-60 minutes drinking our cold coffee beverages and geeking out on our cell phones. Thanks Red Cat for being there and being rad. Birmingham, go here NOW! read more
