Aw I feel sorry for these guys. I picked a guy up today from here and I seen guys talking or drinking at the door and I found out they were once army dudes that were deployed to war that made it back home. So it's a member fee and regular ppl can go there but overall the guy was nice so the place must be nice. read more

I was walking around Redondo looking around for a place to stop for a beer while the ladies were getting their nails done for a wedding. I noticed the flag painted on the side of a building and the pow flag along with a sign "VFW". Googled it and found that indeed there was beer here! Stopped in and the bartender Jay was on point. With UFC on screen and friendly local vets hanging about, I got to spend a good hour with multiple personalities and good vibes! This is the spot. read more

This is the type of place you slink off to after the cat shit in the bed, you lost your job at Carl's Junior and your boyfriend left you for a Polynesian masseuse called 'Ki Ki.' OR if you're a writer. Talk about inspiration for a book or a movie, holy shit. The VF-dub club 2828 is one of the most out of control holes I've stumbled into since I lived back in The County. After my 26 Corona Lights, I wouldn't be surprised if I looked up and saw the apparitions of old Henry and Wanda pouring from a communal bottle of scotch. When I say out of control, I don't mean 110 bros doing car bombs around a lifted truck where blonde bitches are grinding in the back to 50 Cent. 'Out Of Control' is about quality not quantity, folks. There were about 14 people in the bar throughout the whole night and the place was friggin unhinged. From the friendly bartender who stuck dollar bills and beer caps to his face, dancing around past the band and nearly knocking the mic over, to the saucy, punk rock lesbian who drank 5 shots of Jager in a row without flinching, everybody was there for one reason and one reason only and that was clearly to get FUCKED UP. One interesting gentleman reached right over the bar when the funky mixologist was stocking boxes and just filled his glass to the top with Jack. And don't be fooled by the name; this place is not all veterans (but you wish it was because they are the emperors of insanity when it comes to partying, as they deserve to be). I witnessed two pretty young lushes that were power chugging like a meteor was headed straight for the South Bay. The motley crew of locals that stumble in here know the well-kept secrets of the club..... 1) You can smoke inside. 2) Drinks are ridiculously cheap and sometimes free. 3) There are modestly priced Cheetos and chips. 4) Clean bathrooms to poop or snort in privacy. 5) Loud classic rock. 6) Almost anything goes (A random person literally rode their bicycle through the front doors and in front of the band, and then out the back, this establishment clearly being a part of his "route.") If you are a "seasoned" drinker, you'll rethink your title after hangin with these guys. read more

Came here the other day to catch up with my prima and shoot the shit over some beers. You really gotta keep your eyes peeled for this non descript building or you'll miss it just like I did. Once I finally found the place I walked in and noticed it was fairly small crowd inside, maybe ten people. Then again it was a weekday so that's to be expected I guess. After signing my name in the guest book and donating a buck to the vets I was able to order a cold one. They serve Blue Moon in the bottle so I ordered one up and settled in. Everyone seemed to know each other but did not treat me like an outcast. From the bartender to the patrons everyone was friendly. At one point someone ordered shots for everyone in the bar. Not being one to turn down a rare free drink I obliged and down the hatch it went. Music was playing (via a jukebox I believe) and people were taking turns playing pool on the one pool table in the joint. Pretty cool spot right by the beach to kick back and sip on a cold one or two or three. I hear they have some punk shows here once in a while and it can get pretty loud and raucous at times. One of the Southbay's hidden gems - RBVFW has the cheapest drinks, a welcoming crowd, and it's right underneath your nose. You've probably driven or walked by 100 times within noticing it, but it's worth asking google how to get there. read more

This is one of those places I would have never found on my own & I can't imagine many people notice it as they walk by. I heard about it through a co-worker whos band plays there sometimes. It was hard to find because it is not clearly marked, the entrance is in the back, and the building is the size of a cardboard box. It is actually a Veteran of Foreign Wars Post, the walls are covered with nostalgic war/beer advertisements. The bartenders were friendly and hillarious, making interesting conversation, throwing drinks to people and leaving the bar to dance with the band. The drinks... stiff and cheap. I think I was there on an extraordinary night, because there were 3 punk bands playing. It was an interesting mix of 20somethings and over 40 year-olds. On a regular night, I would assume that the crowd in generally older. I had a great time while I was there and would definitely go back if I was in Redondo Beach. read more

HOOOOLY SHIIIIIT!!! I never thought for a moment I would see my V.F.W. on here. I found it completely by accident one day while trying to find a short cut to the beach. I saw the little match box building which stands right behind the Redondo Beach Harbor sign and right behind Albertsons and figured "hey I'm a veteran might as well stop in and have a beer and sign up'...lol well let me tell you cousin, the first character I met was Paul the 6'4 maniac (aka; The Big Show) that I could barely understand what he was saying, he was already on a good one when I walked in and basically we almost came to blows....then he realized that I was a vet and started giving me free beers and shots while speaking some sort of South bay gibberish I could barely comprehend. About that time a guy call Louie walked in; Louie happened to be a former Marine himself and after a cordial introduction we started talking shop and Marine shit...well about 3 shot and 5 beers later he felt I wasn't taking him serious enough so he climbed up on the bar and dropped his pants saying "THIS...THIS IS HOW SERIOUS I AM'....LOL...I couldn't f*ckin believe this guy. Cheri (Scary Cheri), South Bay Cheri) or as I call her Big Momma was the next bartender I met and she basically was the matriarch of the joint, Sean the bar manager, Dan (Commander Dan). These people are all south bay natives and everybody knows everybody there. Where else could I sit and chat with Veterans from WWII to Iraq to the tattooed up locals that frequent the joint. Young and old alike keep this place preeeeety interesting. And if you come around enough you might catch a punk night that's sends the place Richter! read more

Good enough bar, but not as a vfw bar. Most of the people in the place have never been to war let alone been in the military. You don't have to be a member (or even be with a member) to go there. If you're a spun out combat veteran, don't bother going there. It'll just make you angry. One of the guys (who was a member and had been in the Air Force) was wearing a sailors "Dixie cup" hat and an airborne shirt in order to make a joke for his hipster civilian pals. Show some damn respect. Don't go there if you think that you'll find a safe place to remember your dead friends on Memorial Day. You'll be surrounded by non military people who don't get it and don't want to get it. It should be a moose lodge. As a vfw member, I got kicked out by an arrogant volunteer bartender who was told to shut the place down by the post commander and who then locked the doors so that her and her civilian friends could have a place to party for another hour. Not cool. That being said, there are some really cool veterans who go there, but normally the ratio is about 8 to 1 non combat veterans to combat veterans from what I've been able to gather. Gomez is a cool bartender and he's a member of the post. read more
