The Regal Seagull is a hip, happening, small bar/restaurant with a great patio for outdoor seating.  The stars were finally aligned for us tonight because even though they were crowded,  our large group got an entire long table right on the patio!  We just had to share it with the two people already there.  But meeting some regulars and sharing a table (and their fries) here is just the kind of place Regal Seagull is.  Everyone is friendly and having a good time.  Put away your phones and meet some of your neighbors. When ordering at the counter, they didn't ask our group for our names, instead, they gave us our names.  And they were hilarious.  We got Maggie Green.  I recognized most of the other names given, they were from 80's sitcoms.  But I never heard of Maggie Green.  I assumed she was from some cheesy 90's sitcom like Full House or The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.  Those were past my day.   I just looked up Maggie Green and I could not be more wrong.  In fact, if you don't recognize the name either, I will let looking her up be a little surprise for you. My Moose Drool was absolutely delicious!  I ordered it on name alone, but honestly it's one of the best micro brews I've ever tried.  Certainly the best drool or moose-anything I've ever tried. The Pretzel con Queso is not something I would typically order.  I don't like fake cheese.  I typically choose snooty organic and raw cheese to have at home.  Never Velveeta, American or Cheese-Wiz stuff, not me!  But let me tell you, this warm, doughy, perfect specimen of pretzel dipped into the tub of processed orange cheese goo... it tasted amazing! This place seems like a staple to the town of Encinitas, and I am here for it. I love a good "dive bar" vibe and this is it. The bartender was a sweetheart and the food ordering/receiving process is unique and fun. The beers on tap are great, and the food was good too. I only got a chicken sandwich and tots - but I'd go back to try some other snacketizers for sure. Only thing that put me off was that Monday at noon crowd was...not very diverse. I've only been here once but i know i will return. I didnt have any alcohol, just food. My blue cheese bacon burger and fries were awesome. They assign cartoon characters instead of your name for the orders and announce them on the loud speaker when they are ready for pick up. Its really funny to hear the different ones. The staff are welcoming and the guys on the grill definitely know what they are doing. The music they play is also fun. I got great vibes from this place. read more

Sit on the front patio or sidewalk and enjoy all the adorable doggos that parade by or there is always a game of some sort on the TV. Hooray for the mighty sausage makers! Fabulous sausages and great craft beers are what The Regal Seagull be serving up when you come a visiting, not to mention some super amazing friendly service. I ordered the ever so slightly spicy Smoked Cajun or Andouille sausage sandwich with peppers and onions slathered in high grain deli mustard and a refreshing cold Cutback Kolsch to wash it all down. Oh yes, the sausage sandwich came with some killer house made potato chips. Try the chips! The smoked cajun had some great flavors. The andouille sausage, made from coarsed ground pork not only had that porky great flavor, but I was was juicy. The sausage's flavors of garlic, red pepper, onions, wine, and salt came through very well. The spiciness of the sausage was something you felt more after the fact. The green and peppers and onions were both cooked perfectly, were tender, and provided great flavor. The deli mustard was typical, but quite good. The Sadie Rose Buttermilk Roll that came with the sausage was a great vessel for the huge 1/3 pound sausage because it held up well, was moist, and had a nice fresh baked quality flavor to it. I really liked the potato chips because they were thick and cruncy, had great seasoning, and had a great potato flavor. The bar keep Gretchen was fantastic and she sure knew what she was doing. Wow, it has been a year since my last review. Time for an update. This is definitely one of my local hang out spots. There are plenty of big tv sets, it is a sausage and beer bar and I am not talking food. Lots of men in the house! I have met some uber cool people hanging here! Even though I am not much of a beer drinker and I would never eat sausage it is always a good time. The constantly changing beer menu is filled with craft beers from all over the county. They sell everything from coors light to rye IPA or sour beer and wine too. Deciding what to sample might be intimidating, so why not just spin their decision wheel, you just might win a free beer if it lands on the lucky slot. I see people coming in with little kiddos and the Regal Seagull knows how to handle them. They have tons if finger food for the shorties. Mac and cheese bites, tater tots or deep fried green beans are sure to keep the little folks happy for a while so the parents can get a break. I personally would not recommend eating here, but if you do then you might like I like old school ticket system they use. When you order food they give you the name of someone famous and clip the ticket to a cable on hanging from the ceiling and then send it across the room with a little push. When it is done they call out your movie name which makes picking up your food even more fun! One thing that bugs me is that they require a credit card or payment on the spot even if you are sitting at the bar, that just is ghetto tacky. This place is essentially a sausage house with a slew of delicious options to choose from and topped with a delicious mustard bar. Have tried a couple of the sausages and they're delicious, the jalapeño cheddar is delicious. The beers served are all pretty dang good and tend to rotate quite a bit but usually there is something for just about everyone on the menu, including wine and ciders. The overall ambiance is extremely chill and the indoor/outdoor seating makes this joint a solid dining/drinking option. When you're living on a budget, and aren't lucky enough to have a 2-for-1 coupon from a mailer, Happy Hours quickly become your best of friends. Living and dining around Encinitas, we've found some great eats for great prices. Sakura Bana, D Street, and Quei Bravi Ragazzi especially ... you can fill up two people and a baby easily for $10-$12 and possibly have stuff to take home. Sure, a lot of that is probably carbs, but it's still damn tasty. So, after hearing that the Regal Seagull has one of the top five appetizers in the area that we have to try (thank you random Facebook article from a non-reputable source), we invited a friend to join us last night for dinner. First off, their Happy Hour is NOT that great. A buck off everything on the menu may sound pretty good, but when most of the stuff you want is $7-$8+, that doesn't leave much room to dine on anything other than drinks and chips. But, we came here because we heard that the Fried Macaroni Cheese Bites were a must-have. So, with friend in tow, and a split check, we made do and had dinner at the Regal Seagull. The place itself is kinda nice. Outside it has high, metal tables and chairs with a kid seat that matches. Inside is a long bar with tap after tap of beer after beer. Can't make up your mind on what to drink? There's a wheel to spin to help make your choice for you. You order at the bar and they slide tickets to the kitchen on a wire. And to top it all off, board games abound from Connect Four to Candy Land to help pass the already good time. But, that food. Like the bulk of bar and grills, the food is made elsewhere and served here. At least Regal Seagull doesn't keep everything in the freezer until ordered, most stuff feels and tastes fresh. But the sausages are still packaged and bought from elsewhere, the macaroni tasted a bit like Kraft before breading, and the buns are all bagged. Even all the condiments are from giant Costco tubs, which I think is my biggest peeve. If you're going to serve an array of sausages that you don't grind and make yourself (which I'm not expecting anyone to do at a bar), you could at least come up with your own recipes for mustards and relishes to go with them. Mix in your own honey, maybe a dash of wasabi, be creative with a balsamic vinegar, or palm sugar ... when you're making bar food you only get so many places to do something original or truly your own to give people a reason to keep coming back because they can't get it elsewhere. Eating sausages I could just get on my own and pop on the grill at home, I want something to add to it other than grilled onions and plain sauerkraut. That sauerkraut, by the way, really felt like it just came from a bag. No tenderness, no fatty flavor from slow cooking in a crock with a package of sausages, nothing but a sour and raw crunch. Still, the food they do get to serve isn't bad; it just doesn't go that aforementioned extra mile. Mixed together with non-budget conscious prices, a disappointing Happy Hour, and an impressive beer selection that every bar around town seems to have these days, you end up with an average to slightly below average experience. And those Fried Macaroni Cheese Bites that brought us in the first place? Meh... --------------------- The Happy Hour List!! When you're on a tight budget and still wanna get out to eat, San Diego can be unforgiving. You want to find a place where you can eat good food, be reasonable full, yet only spend $5-$10 so you can do it again. With that in mind... Cost: Their happy hour consists of $1.00 off menu items. I LOVE THIS PLACE! One of the things I was bummed about after moving to north county was that I would no longer be close to the Regal Beagle. But, apparently, my prayers were answered. First I find a decent Korean joint, and now I get Regal Seagull. What did I do to deserve this? SWEEEEET! So if you haven't been to this place yet, it is a must. They have rotating beers on draft, and have a fantastic selection. They always have many choices for IPAs which makes me very happy. The sausages are to die for. My favorite is the Moroccan lamb. Clever Hollywood references assigned to food orders had us reminiscing the entire time about old movies we loved. Really good home made sausages. This place is fire! Friendly bartender, humorous atmosphere, deliciously simple food menu, and cold beer! All at a fair price; we spent $37 + tip and got 2 beers, a bratwurst, a chicken sandwich, and house made potatoe chips. Everything was delicious. I love the name of the establishment almost as much as I love how the bartender and cooks communicate orders: by flinging a carbiner with a bag clip attached to the ticket down a 30 foot line strung from the bar to the kitchen. First and foremost, it's a bar. They have good food too but its mostly a bar. The food menu is limited but designed to compliment their vast selection of craft beers and wines. Speaking of craft beer, they have LOTS of options. At least 30 different local, rotating craft beer options. The staff is really knowledgeable, will make recommendations and will even give you a splash of a few beers to make sure you get one you like. The service was attentive and friendly but not overbearing. My most recent visit I started with a "Thizz is What it Is" Hazy IPA by Belching Beaver. To satisfy my hunger I got a chicken sandwich with fried green beans. Nothing fancy just chicken, lettuce, tomato and ranch on a bun. Everything was seasoned perfectly though and the chicken was cooked through but still juicy. The friend green beans were an upgrade option to their typically included chips. I washed the sandwich down with a "Snow Zombie" Hazy IPA. It was the perfect Saturday lunch. I didn't order one this visit but this place is known for their house-made sausages. Really great little dive bar in Leucadia, several TVs playing football and lively crowd. The beer on tap is great. They also have Juneshine and wine. The menu is small but even so for a little bar they serve a pretty good mixed green salad for those not wanting to get sausage, lamb sausage sandwich or a burger and fries. I was pleasantly surprised by the salad; candied nuts, blue cheese, cranberries, tasty raspberry vinaigrette and add protein like chicken. Chill spot to hang for Super Bowl - or any other time, really! The outdoor seating is nice during warm weather and there's a long bar inside with small raised tables. There's a great beer selection that changes every time I go, which I like. My friend and I ordered the Mac n cheese bites (so good) and the Moroccan lamb sausage - delicious! You can upgrade to sweet potato fries from the basic potato chips it comes with. Depends on which appetizers you order, I suppose! This is a Leucadia staple that you can't go wrong with. Wings and salads and good food offered here as well as the typical bar food. Large and long bar seats many, more tables, it's narrow and small but friendly locals hangout. HOLY SMOKES, I love this place. Checked this place out not once but twice and the experience just got better! Both times I've gone to the regal I sit outside at the front where the heaters are, those come in handy in the evenings. The front patio has TVS conveniently located at each corner and are playing sports. The inside is usually pretty packed with happy customers and locals. I ordered Hazy IPAs both times and it was great, the food now... oh man. I had a food coma after leaving both times!!! First off, let's talk about the wings. The wings - fricken amazing. I love the lemon pepper personally. And you gotta order the fried mac n cheese, it's life changing. Talk about the best of the best munchies to go with beer. You haven't lived until you've had a fried mac n cheese ball. Not to mention the tator tots, gotta have tots when you're watching the game. I have yet to dislike anything at this establishment. Love this local spot and have been coming here for years. Recently we ordered take out due to the COVID-19 outbreak and my husband and I were so impressed with their service. A jar of clean pens, hand sanitizer and a sign out front encouraging social distancing. It was comforting to know they were taking every precaution. Well. I've driven past this location dozens and dozens of times and finally stopped in for dinner with the family. We arrived kind of early around 615 on Saturday, and it was not busy. Easy to grab a table inside or out. Looks like a dog friendly patio as there were a few of them outside. There are two giant menu boards, one behind the bar and one on the side wall. Go ahead and place your order with one of the bartenders who will then give you a little ticket with a fancy little name on it. Once they call your name, you know your food is ready. Great selection of classic rock. Great selection of beers. And quite actually, the menu is also really good. It's just a quality, simple menu with the items that you crave to eat which include a BLT, tater tots, hot pretzel, wings, burgers and chicken sandwich. We ordered all of that. Let me start by saying that the hot soft pretzel is probably one of the best I've ever had anywhere in the world including Germany. I don't know if it's homemade or what but it's ginormous, the perfect amount of salt. It's soft and it has a nice chewy exterior crust. Loved the cheese sauce as well. We also had a burger and grilled chicken sandwich. While I didn't taste the burger it did look pretty amazing. The chicken sandwich on the other hand was probably one of the best I've ever had. Next time I would omit the ranch dressing. The chicken was well seasoned and perhaps marinated. It was on a soft bun possibly brioche and my side item was tater tots which were crispy and not greasy. The wings were also great as was the garden salad which is not your everyday salad as it had dried cranberries and blue cheese etc. Everything was actually quite delicious. Good group of people kept coming in to sit at the bar and outside. We were able to find parking on the street But it does look like parking could get a little challenging perhaps later on the weekends. We would definitely come back. read more

Great beer selection, bad experience. The bartender working when we went in this past Sunday afternoon around lunch time was very rude and unfriendly to our group from the start. She gave my friend a hard time about her ID in a mean way when she could have nicely asked for another form of ID. Then, my bf ordered a cider and left to use the restroom while the other 3 of us finished ordering. When I went to order, she gave me a mean look and said rudely "I thought you ordered the cider." No, my bf clearly ordered it. Just because he picked cider doesn't mean it was my drink. The rest of the transaction carried on in the same rude tone and not once did she smile or make an effort to give us a positive experience. Food was standard pub food, nothing amazing. We ordered Mac n Cheese Bites and wings. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, because the selection of beer is large and it seems like a cool place to hang out at night. I do love this place when I visit my Leucadian friends its the main place we always end up at. Us and half of the population of the city on a Saturday night. Its a super tight narrow bar, full to the brim at most times in the evening. Go for lunch if you want a more relaxed atmosphere. They have great food and beers on tap. If you like brats this is the place to go. You can NOT go wrong with any of the appetizers for 7 dollars list. For example, my friend ordered the soft pretzels with cheese, it came with TWO large ones! There is also a mustard bar with about 8 different types which is always fun to try out. The atmosphere is pretty hipster like but, I like all types of people so I can go anywhere and be happy with brats and beer. :) Yes they do have outdoor seating and the bathroom is in the alleyway. I came here recently with a few friends around 12:30 in the afternoon. The female bartender that was working didn't greet us when we entered the near empty establishment, and barely acknowledged us when we walked up to the bar to check out the beer selection. She gave me a hard time about my (definitely real) ID, and rudely asked if I had something else with my name on it. As she double checked that the ID was real, I kind of looked around at my friends to see if they were experiencing the same attitude. They all rose their brows, so I know it wasn't just me. She was rude and assuming to my friend and her boyfriend as well. It just really seemed like she didn't want us there. Maybe it's cause we weren't locals. She kind of harshed on our mellow, ya know? The beer selection is fantastic, and the vibe is hip. They have a nice chalkboard menu with different food options (mostly sausages). We got the mac and cheese bites, which were pretty okay. They weren't anything special. My friend ordered the chicken wings and when I asked how they were, he said they "are chicken wings, nothing particularly stands out". It seems like a place I would come with my friends after work if I lived in Encinitas full time. I would suggest hiring a more friendly daytime bartender, however. read more

i believe that good eats (and drinks) are ingredient driven or the food equivalent of what TED WILLIAMS said about hitting -- pick out a good pitch and try not to screw it up. not a lot of re-purposing here. they're pretty much taking really good sausage that somebody else made and really good beer that somebody else brewed and set 'em down on the counter in front of us. well, that works for me. seven-year old JULIANA had the MAC and CHEESE bites (gooey, deep-fried balls of cheese and macaroni goodness) and the hot wings hold the hot sauce. five-year old WYATT devoured his burger (side-by-side sliders on a hot dog roll). Woohoo! This is as good as it gets. Where have I been? Why does it take me so long to find some of the places I love the most? How could I not give this place 5 stars? Great atmosphere here. Love the feel of the place. Friendly bar service too, "way to go Regal Seagull". What a fun menu too. Lots of sausages, wings and other goodies. See my photos, I pigged out. Came here on Wednesday which is 'Wing Day" and their wings are done right. Crispy, lots of flavor options and served hot with carrots and celery and ranch. The sausages are amazing as well. Choices I have never seen anywhere else and while I don't drink beer, wow.....they had so many beer choices on tap for those who do. What a great place for beer, sausages, wings and just to hangout with friends or whoever. It's a small place and it filled up quick - I can see why. I have a love/hate relationship with the Regal Seagull. Love I like the Regal Seagull the point that it was the first place my new wife and I went after we got married. (We stopped on the way to the reception. They let us take pictures behind the bar and everything.) The beer list is one of the best in town, the bartenders are all quite friendly and they have sports on constantly. They don't advertise it much, but you can get 1/2 pours on 16oz beers for half the price + a little more. Half pours are a great way to try 3 or 4 beers and not get totally blotto while doing so. Their wine selection is actually pretty decent for a beer bar as well. Their breakfast burritos they do during football season are awesome. You get your choice of sausage and your choice of four other ingredients on their list of 12ish items you can stuff inside the burrito. They're big enough to share and ridiculously tasty. The mustard bar is on point. I loves me some mustard and they have 6 or 7 different types: spicy, sweet, ground, fancy pants and usually a couple in between Hate The hate part of that is that it's easy to drink enough of their delicious beers that your bill goes through the roof. The Seagull has quality, but it comes with a price. There's been more than a few times I've asked for my bill and thought, "Jesus! I had fun, but not THAT much fun." It isn't hard for two people to get to $70 in less than two hours. While the food is delicious, there's no real healthy option aside from a salad. Everything is fried. Mini corn dogs, mac n cheese bites, tots and chicken wings; they're all delicious, but they ain't the best for you. The wife and I have had the conversation more than a few times where we want to grab a bite and a good beer but we skip over the Seagull for another place that has more healthy options. I suppose in the end it's a good thing that there are some bad aspects to the Seagull. I'd be much fatter and broker than I already am living across the street from this awesome beer bar. read more

The lady behind the bar said it's 1/3 pound each, but my bf said he can handle it. :P I got the Cajun and the bf had the jalepeno cheddar and Kolbasz. The latter has 20% bacon. He really liked it! It's $9 and comes with chips and 2 toppings. I think the ones at Regal Beagle are better because mine was kind of burnt. The orders fly along a zip line with unique names. Ours was Darth Vader. When they called us everyone was laughing. I forgot to mention the beer. There are so many. We don't like beer, so we just sampled #14. It had grape juice, honey, and berries.
