It was located in the middle of nowhere. Despite the sketchy location, food was pretty good. Ordered coco bread, chicken patty, jerk chicken, collard greens, fried plantains which were all enjoyable, except the Mac and cheese (side item). Definitely gonna be visiting this place again. This was my first time ordering from them after thinking for a year I'd never find a good spot. I am pleasantly surprised at how good the food is. My first time trying Jamaican food and I guess we picked the right place. Everything was delicious. I had the oxtails which were excellent. My only regret was not ordering rice to help me get up every last bit of the sauce they came in. Mac and cheese and cabbage were excellent as well. My wife had brown stew chicken with rice and plantains which she loved. She's Puerto Rican and for her to comment on how good the plantains were is an earned compliment. We even added Jamaican patties and coco bread to go to our order. Service was exceptional and friendly and we instantly felt right at home. Hope to be back soon. read more

My daughter was in town and we felt like curry. I had food from here before but had never dined in. Maybe it was the Sunday evening but it was more like a hopping, cocktail drinking dance club and we were not going to sit amid this. There was also a rather drunken crowd spilling out of their pool room. The server was super nice, the food did not take very long to arrive and we both enjoyed our curried goat, rice and peas and plantains. Pretty spicy, though. Prices were decent, but cannot say the same about the food. Mozzarella sticks taste like burnt fish. Were definitely fried in old oil had whole bunch of burnt black little flakes around them. Price for the wings are decent but flavor is lost. Only thing I recommend is the coco bread it was in point. read more

Congrats on your inclusion onto my one and done list. I really wanted to like this place but there were some missteps that I couldn't overlook. In fairness, this is almost a 3 star experience but there are some areas of improvement that took away from the dining experience. The host/cook was extremely accommodating but I just can't understand how & why I ended up with a "struggle plate". I'm so glad that these are my real teeth. I ordered the oxtails and they were so tough. Please invest in a pressure cooker and you'll see that the meat could be tender without being over cooked or cooked too fast. The best thing was the plantains. When asked if I was happy with my food, he seemed surprised at my unfiltered honesty and my respectful no to those canned greens he placed before me. Perhaps I still had some concern about continually hearing the microwave start up and its door being slammed. Many items were unavailable (white rice being one of them) and in an effort to make it right, I was offered a replacement side order of cabbage. When I received it; it was pleasing to the eye but when I sampled it, the cabbage wasn't done and still very crunchy. Had they allowed it to cook maybe 7-10 more minutes it could have been salvaged. Trying to avoid soda and juice I opted for water. I don't mind that it was from the same dispenser as the fountain drinks but dang homey; don't bring me some brown water and want me to be cool with it. There is a sign posted that says there could be a 20 minute wait to get your food because it is being freshly prepared. Yes, there was a wait but it's disappointing when you have your mouth tuned and what's presented is underwhelming. There are a few parking spots in the front, a few tv's and seating for up to 35 patrons comfortably. It behooves you to call ahead and find out what they are out of and order ahead to minimize the wait. read more

Horrible service and horrible food. Went there the first time and purchased escovitched fish with rice and peas and greens and a side of plantains which I paid extra for. When I got to work I noticed that I did not get my plantain. It was disappointing because the food wasn't good at all (bland/tasteless) and I was looking forward to the plantains. I called them and the lady apologized and said she has the plantain and next time I go there, not only will I get my plantain but I'll be generously compensated. I said ok and agree to try them a second time. Well.... the second time I went, I ordered another escovitched snapper and shrimp roti ($30 purchase) when I asked for my plantain and the so called generous compensation... I was told replacing my plantain (which I had already paid for and not received) was my compensation. The lady was rude and abrasive. I was tired and hungry and did not want to argue so I just paid for my food and left... was the food good the second time around? NOPE. BLAND. Roti was dry and tasteless. Literally made me throw up. Fish was very bland all on top of the horrible service. If you're going to have poor service make sure the food is good at least. Note I was warned by a friend/coworker who had been there before me that the food was bad and service horrible but I had to try it myself. I would NOT RECOMMEND. Total waste of money. read more

We went here for the first time tonight and it was a good choice. This place was a Jamaican restaurant previously, but this new management seems much better! The place looks great inside. These booths are some of the most comfy in town. The new owner has done a great job in the decorating. The service was good and the food is good. The Jerk Chicken is nice and spicy. I had a hard time deciding if I wanted the collards or the cabbage. Since I was having such a hard time Doc brought me both. I still don't know which I liked the best. They were both so good! The prices are good and they serve lots of food! Very Jamaican .... They even serve Red Stripe beer. If you're in the area, give them a try. This place is so chill. I just want to hang out there all day and eat plantains. Skyaa's is tucked back in Cayce but it's worth pulling up google maps to find this hidden treasure. It's in a little strip next to a convenience store. The menu isn't super extensive but everything sounds delicious so it will still be difficult to pick something out. After serious thought on the jerk hamburger I ended up going with the small jerk chicken plate with the plantains and rice and peas. The chicken was delicious with a generous helping of jerk flavoring. I'm not one for spicy foods so I was a bit nervous ordering it. There were a couple of bites that caught me off guard but on the whole the flavor was excellent. The rice and peas seemed more like rice and beans and left some of that on the plate. The plantains were phenomenal. I would drive over there just for them. Seriously cooked to perfection. The ambiance is also stellar if you are looking for a casual place to have dinner. They were playing some smooth jams and when Return of the Mack came on everyone started chair dancing so they cranked it up. It was awesome. I picked Mac n cheese and collard greens. The oxtails were pretty good, could have used more spice. I didn't care for the Mac n cheese because it didn't have sharp cheddar. This place has awesome food, a good selection of Caribbean beers and juices (try sorrel & ginger or guava & pineapple) that I haven't been able to find ANYWHERE, and their customer service is top notch! I walked in and placed a takeout order for jerk chicken (figured it would be a safe choice for a new place), and chatted with the bartender while I waited. When I mentioned that I'd never tried one of the juice flavors, he cracked open a bottle on the house. So nice! My jerk chicken was great - just slightly spicy, deep grill flavor, and with enough sauce to pour some over my rice & peas. I also had the plantains which were top notch and not too sweet. Will definitely be coming back and eating my way through this menu. This place is a hidden gem! Man a hidden gem. The name has changed though to the "Reggae Grill" but it's in the same spot. Came here for lunch and it was a good experience. It's tucked away in Cayce near the high school. It's small and very clean. Good tunes play on the sound system there. Service was great. If you want Jamaican patties this is the place to go! I had the chicken, rice and peas, and cabbage. I even had two bottles of Ting! The only thing I'd say you need when you go there is time cause the food is cooked to order. It's a nice spot. Try it out! read more

I saved this place on a visit to SC and tried it 2 weeks later with my wife. AMAZING! It's a small place with a big surprise. I ordered the stew chicken with greens, mac and plantains. We dined in but she thought it was to go so it was in takeout boxes. Did. Not. Matter. I scraped every bit of those boxes and washed it down with their Bob Marley drink (I could smell the Wray and Nephew when she set it down, "oh this is gonna be good"). I'm writing this a month later but I do remember my wife also had no complaints. This is a MUST food stop whenever we visit family again. We found this place after many failed attempts to find parking in downtown Charleston; so we finally gave up and tried to find something other than seafood and decided upon soulfood. It was the best decision that we made. It's a few minutes away from downtown and it's not in the too-best looking neighborhood compared to the touristy downtown. As soon as you step foot in the building (don't let the slightly run-down door discourage you) you will feel the soulful vibe that you already know the food is gonna be good. For lunch (my wife, son, and me): Fried drummettes (since regular fried chicken would take a 30min wait) - was good, like a regular wing joint nothing too special. The crust was good though. Collard greens and green beans, Baked chicken, red rice and macaroni were really good like your mom's home cooking. The surprise was the fried whiting fillets. The staff is very hospitable, our waitress and owner brought us a taste of an alcoholic drink true to the Jamaican culture and we fell in love. Every single item was delicious. The oxtails were so tender and the jerk chicken had that awesome smokiness in the chicken and in the sauce that only comes from cooking jerk the right way. The sides tasted great very well seasoned. The plantains took the whole meal over the top. I love them, but my hubby and son aren't too fond of them. Tried to give this place a try on 3 different occasions. Disappointed every time. Way over priced for what they serve. My husband ordered curry shrimp and I ordered oxtails as well as a roti. The wait was 20 min so we paid and waited. Arrived home to eat and the oxtails had no meat. I was basically given bone with gravy and the 2 that did have meat it was extremely tough. My mother had the roti which she couldn't even finish because it was overly salted. The shrimps were so small and chewy and the cabbage was so bland; so I don't understand what we paid for. We ended up just throwing it all away. You should consider listing items on your menu accordingly as to when it will available throughout the week. And seriously taste your product before serving. Too much salt in certain dishes and not enough seasoning in others. read more
