I like to sample a variety, so I went with the Bobby's Usual of brisket, jalapeño cheddar sausage, and pulled pork with Bobo's Hot Corn + Hillbilly Beans. He offered onions, pickles, and jalapeños as side condiments along with their homemade BBQ sauce. I initially sampled the meats without sauce, but I have to say the sweet/smoky flavor of the sauce is a great compliment to the meats. You can tell Bobby learned his trade from Texas...solid brisket with a thin fat cap with a nice peppery crust. The pulled pork was perfect...moist and tender but still maintaining firmness. While the sausage is not made in-house, you could have fooled me. Nice crispy skin with a good jalapeño kick and plenty of cheese. The sides are exceptional! I loved the sweetness of the beans, and the Bobo Corn (I believe it's grandma's recipe) was addicting. Don't let the name fool you...there's a little heat, but the flavors are wonderful. I chopped a bit of onion and pork into the beans, a great flavor combination. The atmosphere is bright and open with some Texas decor...great place for family. Really good food and excellent service from this TX style BBQ spot...looking forward to my next visit to Columbia for more.

When we arrived, we were warmly greeted. Inside is clean with 4 tables for sitting inside to eat. The restaurant is small and cutely decorated. The display cases with meats, cheeses and different salads and condiments looked great. The deli meats for the subs is sliced very thin. We started with lasagna and garlic bread that Dave and I shared. The filling had beef and Italian sausage and it was delicious. The cheese pull was good and not too much. The red sauce was very good. 5/5 We ordered foods to go after eating the lasagna in store. I failed to take a picture of the lasagna. Suffice it to say it was inhaled quickly. We tried the eggplant panini in store too. Everything else was to go. I ordered a Bruno Sub and asked for roasted red peppers to be added. Honestly I couldn't taste the roasted red peppers as there weren't very many added. There was a thin slice of 1 onion ring on the sub so I couldn't taste any onion at all. Harris' is a rare find for many these days... it is an old school grocery store with an in house…read morebutcher, and the week's specials are pasted on large hand painted paper signs in the storefront windows. If by that, you have no idea what I mean... you are young. The aisles are a bit on the narrow side, and your shopping cart might squeak if you grab one. If your shopping list is exotic, organic, or Paleo... this isn't your store. If you are used to shopping by your retailer's app on your smart phone and your coupons being digital... this isn't your store, either. Items are grouped on shelves neatly, but not "merchandiser style" with accent lighting and accompanying decor letting you know jalapenos are in season, etc. Associates are courteous and helpful, and the meat department is the real reason we stop in when nearby. They cut their own meats, and they ran specials worthy of stocking your freezer with. If you've never seen a country ham in person, stop in and they will have several in the center towards the back. They do have a produce aisle, but again this is old school... so be prepared that they will likely have avocados, but it may be the ripeness scale you were seeking for a certain night, etc. Their bread selection leans heavily towards all white bread... so fair warning. Stop in and check it out for yourself. All that's missing from your child hood is the desk where you return your glass bottles the deposit.
