The Ripe Tomato has been one of my family's meal spots for many years. Yesterday, we stopped in for lunch. I was disappointed with the meal, and it seems clear to me that the chef expertise has declined. It went from excellent to ok. Perhaps a better chef works on the weekend, or during peak tourist season in the summer. What a shame not to maintain the high-quality level of meal preparation they once had. I tried the house Chardonnay and didn't care for it at all. What happened to that fabulous pork dinner with mashed, gravy, and red cabbage? That was always one of the best meals on the menu. The current pork schnitzel dinner is ok. The key lime pie was delicious. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the casual atmosphere makes for an enjoyable gathering. I hope they bring in a better chef, soon. read more

Pork Schnitzel w/potato pancake & sauteed spinach for my much better half. She brought 1/2 of the Schnitzel home for lunch tomorrow. She loved all of it but the portions of each item were very generous. Also, she was saving room for a piece of pumpkin pie, which she happily devoured, except for a couple of bites. Cape Cod Farmers Salad & Cedar Salmon for me. * The salad was huge & crazy good. Menu description: "Crisp greens with fresh roasted goat cheese, sun dried cranberries and toasted walnuts served with homemade lemon vinaigrette." * The salmon dish was one of the best I've ever had. Menu description: "Fresh wild salmon filet brushed with a balsamic glaze and grilled over scallions on a cedar plank for fantastic flavor. Served with a side of mixed vegetables and rice pilaf." I couldn't finish the gigantic portion of rice pilaf or the mixed vegetables, but they were delicious, as well. A soda for her, 2 domestic draft beers for me, a tea for her & a coffee for me brought the tab, including tax but not the tip, to $75 even. Some might call that expensive. I call it just right for what we got! So, it's $$, for sure, and $$$, easily, depending on your tastes & hunger. The quality and the quantity of the food was exceptional and the service (Vanessa) was equally so. The entry for a wheelchair is a bit awkward but doable with assistance. Once inside, it's fairly easy to maneuver. Not sure, but from distant memory, the restrooms may be a bit of a challenge for the wheelchair, if not impossible. read more

Food was not worth the price. It's not terrible, but it's not great. I had chicken parm and the cutlets hadn't been pounded nearly thin enough. The red sauce on the pasta was pedestrian, almost like it came from a jar. My husband had the special, steak frite, and the steak wasn't cut properly so it was very chewy. This, plus our son's kids pizza and a coke and an iced tea, were over $65. The same food, at probably the same quality, at a diner would cost maybe $40. The atmosphere was very loud too. We won't come back, when there are so many better Italian restaurants around. read more

I hesitate to complain about restaurants, especially in the summer time as we live in a resort area and businesses are busier than usual, but my last experience at the Ripe Tomato surprised me unpleasantly. We once liked the Ripe Tomato, it's food and service which we've enjoyed there many times. However, I'm not going back. During a recent visit there, a friend and I were seated at a table that didn't appeal --before even ordering beverages, I asked the waitress if we could be seated on the other side of the restaurant. Rather than accommodating us, she raised her voice to a loud pitch and shouted at me -- probing our reason for wanting to move! I didn't appreciate being interrogated and being shouted at. Additionally, she never came back to move us! Lunch wasn't particularly wonderful -- not really worth the close to $40.00 we left there. Bye-bye Ripe Tomato! read more

Meals were both good,but no bread or salad served ? Both chicken dishes were tasty but for the prices,I feel at least bread should have been served.Service was fine and drink refills were offered.Not sure it is worth the cost.The restaurant could use a lot of sprucing up. It is dark and towards the bar very dank.. Many other restaurants in the area to choose from and I think Ripe Tomato needs to up its game. read more

This used to be one of my top picks. The food was good, prices fair (salad included in cost of entree), and portions large. The good news is the prices are unchanged. The bad news is that the potions have shrunk and a dinner salad is an extra $3. I wish they would have just bumped the prices!! read more

We went tonight with our two kids. Haven't been in a while but we had a wonderful dinner. Kids meals were perfect and they were thrilled it included ice cream! I really enjoyed the wine and my soup and salad. Plus dessert was fantastic. Warm chocolate bunt cake with ice cream! So amazing and more than big enough to share with my husband. my aunt had her 60th birthday party here last night and it was wonderful. the service was spectacular especially considering how busy it was. the waitress was very friendly (wish i knew her name!) and we got our food / drinks FAST! the only reason that i took off a star...and it really isn't even their fault...is because the room that we reserved in the back got REALLY hot. probably because we had like 20 people crammed in it...but there was a heater on and everything. other than that...it was fantastic. good food, good service. read more

Have not had a bad meal yet! This restaurant , located on Rte 9 north of exit 12 off the Northway is a gem. The food is delicious and the service is excellent! Sunday brunch is our family favorite! They have made-to-order omelets and they will even make chocolate chip pancakes for the little ones! I brought my friend to the Ripe Tomato for lunch yesterday for her birthday. We were seated and both ordered water with lemon and the waitress seemed miffed. I ordered the hot turkey sandwich on white bread with gravy and mashed potatoes. When I received my order I immediately noticed an extreme amount of cracked black pepper throughout the entire dish, which included stuffing, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Nowhere on the item listing did it state the hot turkey sandwich came with black pepper turkey, black pepper mashed potatoes, and black pepper gravy. I am not a big fan of black pepper and feel I could add it myself if I want since every table has a salt and pepper shaker. After receiving our lunch, the waitress never came back to check to see if everything was okay. I tried to summon the waitress three times, however, it became obvious she was deliberately ignoring me. Finally a gentlemen came over and asked if I needed help. I informed him the food was inedible due to the huge amount of black pepper. He asked if he could get me something else but my friend was almost finished with her lunch so I passed. Our lunch experience was ruined due to the poor service by our waitress and the overly peppered food I ordered. I will not be going back. read more

First time diner. Came for my 28th birthday. The food is absolutely amazing. I tend to be a picky eater and was very pleasantly surprised. Food took a little bit longer than I would have liked but you can tell it's made from scratch so it's well worth the wait. I've eaten here several times now, and the food has consistently been quite good. One was a breakfast buffet, which was rather expensive but was also quite delicious. I generally order the seafood here, not the pasta, although others in my party always order pasta dishes. They have not screwed up anything, and usually do a very good job. Not high end cuisine, but it's quite good. Staff is attentive - not overly so, but they do check to make sure everything is okay. It's usually crowded when we go. The bathroom A/C has had tons of dust on it the few times I've gone in there, which I don't think anyone should ever run into in a place where hygiene is kind of a high priority. read more

This is one of those places that you always go back to. The food is consistently good and there's enough variety for everyone. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is their coffee! I can't remember the last time I went to a nice restaurant and had such bitter coffee. Not the way I wanted my delicious meal to end. I have always enjoyed the Ripe Tomato. It's been a few years since I have gone because I have been out of the area and it's still as good as I remembered. We ordered the calamari and boneless wings for appetizers. Both were delicious! The wings had a little kick to them, not too much just enough. I had a pasta dish on special and the shrimp was fresh, and gave you plenty of it, they didn't skimp out. My husband had the Pollo Tres Modos, he loved his and of course I had to have a bite...I may order that next time. The atmosphere is relaxing and the waiters are always friendly and on point. A great place to go as a couple out for a nice dinner or to take the family. read more

Went there for dinner. Overall it was ok. Way too cold in there to be comfortable. Long wait for dinner ( people who came in after us got their food first and were done eating by the time we got ours). The appetizer was good (we got the tortizza). My only suggestion would be to distribute the raw garlic and put less. It burned! I ordered the chicken caesar salad. Tasteless for the most part. Took it home to put my own dressing on it. Torn between two and three for the rating. The service was good though so I went with three. read more

Me and my wife went for dinner here before going to the drive in. Food was excellent and with good sized portions. Prices were around $18 a plate which for the portions was a fair price. Home made deserts were also spectacular. We called ahead for reservations and were seated immediately upon arrival. The servers were quick and very courteous. Polos Tres Modos, two side salads, and a glass of wine I sat at the bar while I waited for my dinner. $76.00. Yup!!! They forgot to mention that salads are no longer a compliment to your dinner entree. Nope 4 bucks a piece!!! To go or in house. If you want a .50 cent field green salad it will cost you 4 dollars. Seems they feel as their contaminated food issue from a few years back is behind them. Good luck. read more
