Went to lunch here yesterday with my brother. He had a burger and fries.I chose the "crabby club" which came with fries. The sandwich was not a real club,but came on a toasted Kaiser roll. The crabcake was a large portion and came enhanced with lettuce,pickles and a flavored mayonnaise dressing which was delicious. The fries were a generous portion and were perfectly done(crisp outside,soft inside) . This will be my favorite lunch(or dinner) place from now on. read more

This is our family's favorite restaurant. My Mom loved it so much, that when she passed away last year, we scattered some of her ashes by the large trees to the right of the restaurant, so part of her will always be there. All of the food that I have had is great. The Yankee Pot Roast is my favorite. And the French Onion Soup is the 2nd Best I've ever had, and I'm not a fan of onions. And save room for the coconut cream pie. It is the best! The service is normally very good and they have plenty of parking. The two complaints I have is they need Yuengling, either bottle or draft. This beer has limited distribution, but it is available in this area, and they should have it and they don't. Also, they have a Crab Ravioli special that is OUT OF THIS WORLD good! And they never have it when I'm up there! They need to put that on the menu every day! If you're in the Saratoga area, and looking for a good place to eat, I recommend this place HIGHLY! read more

08/01/2011 Last night my husband and I went to have dinner At the Ripe Tomado,The food and service was amazing,We come once a year on our way to the track,We have never had a bad experiance.The resturant is our favorite place to vist during this time of year,We just cant wait to taste something great and rememorable.Our server did not bring our food....it was another girl who we had seen several times dropping food off at various tables. I herd two women that were sitting by our table with a family makeing rude comments toward the server at hand,I am not sure what it was about but it surely was not pleasent.I commend this server with sincer graditude for remaining completely professional.My Husband ask the girl dropping our food off What her problem was.The girl smiled innocently and replied that she wasnt sure and that was the owners daughter.My Husband wishes not to return or be apart of any establishment that doesnt show respect towards their employees.My Husband has been apart of the resturant world his whole life and we both feel that it was inapropiate.Sadley I dont think we'll be back,Its not relaxing to see hard working people being treated less then dirt. read more

This is the place you bring your mother in law for her birthday, because it reminds her of the 1970's. That's not a bad thing. It means it's a comforting throwback place with lots of dark wood paneling, tasty comfort food and a slightly dusty dessert cart. My husband enjoys the chicken francaise special and they will usually make it for him even when it's not on the menu. I especially appreciate that the wait staff is very patient when my mother in law demands that she be served red wine, but with ice, but not too much, and a spritz of diet 7-Up. And also a Diet Coke, but not a big one, just a little glass. You get the feeling at the Ripe Tomato that they're quite accustomed to handling geriatric wackiness, and they do so with grace. The worst customer service I have ever seen. Walked in no one even acknowledge us. 3 waitress walked by did not say a word.Waited a few minuets then started looking for a seat by the bar thinking that might be better. Bartender ignored us for several mins. When he finally did converse with us we asked for a Guinness which he pored all at once and served with more then half the glass was still head. After a about 10mins we had get his attention ( the bar is almost empty) to ask for menus. We ordered the bruschetta. when the bartender brought it out he did not give us plates it was very messy and interesting trying to share the plate it was served on between 2 ppl. We were debating getting a table asked for a second Guinness while we waited. Ask if he could pour it slowly to allow for it to settle . The bartender poured half the glass let it settle slightly then pour the rest of the glass and handed it to us still settling. The bartender then left for a few minuets came back started drinking out of a Starbucks cup full of water and chatting with the manager at therms of the bar. We eventually interrupted the conversation and asked for the check. After this we decided to leave I will never eat there again!!!! The worst experience we have even had in the area. read more

Fell off a cliff. Schnitzel used to be heavenly, red cabbage potato pancakes and capers. Most recent version was grey corpse (human?) freshly harvested from medical school cadavers, literally decomposed meat sautéed shoe leather coating. Surly male server. Second time my wife and I have eaten here. The first time the food and service was very good. This time (Monday Sept 4, 2017 4:30PM) my wife's seafood dish was very bland and she had to load on the cheese to give it some flavor. The restaurant had a smell of someone's old shoe it was awful. They sat us next to a window and when I looked at the sill there were approximately 10 dead flies. That pretty much ended it for me. the combination of the stink and the flies made it impossible to eat. My wife had a piece of fish that she enjoyed although the rice that came with the meal was a real funky color yellow. My son had the pasta and the sauce looked like ketchup. Clearly not like Mama use to make. Just a side note. I went to the men's room and the stink in there pushed me over the edge and I puked. Sorry to be gross but this place really made me ill. Apparently cleanliness is not next to godliness in Malta NY. I would only recommend this place if you are trying to lose weight. read more

I will preface this by saying The Ripe Tomato is our "go to" restaurant when we're looking for something fast, simple, tasty and filling. It is not overly fancy, nor is it overly plain - somewhere in between, with a "homey" atmosphere, pleasant and attentive waitstaff, and a nice selection of wines and beers by the glass and bottle, but nothing extravagant. I do have one modest complaint, and that is the Maryland soft shell crabs that are advertised, in season, on a placard outside of the restaurant. Having enjoyed Maryland crabs for years, we were excited to see that they were being offered in the Northwoods, far from the Maryland shore. They are served deep-fried, and they are definitely that - in fact, when the plates came out, there was considerably more bread crumb coating than there was crab. A bit disappointing, and not something we will order again. That notwithstanding, The Ripe Tomato is a nice, family-oriented restaurant with a good menu selection and sizable and tasty portions. read more

This is my favorite spot in the Malta area. The food and service are always excellent and their portions are large - you get your money's worth. My favorite dish is their pasta Bari - I have had it a handful of times and each time the seafood is cooked to perfection, not overcooked. They have a very low corking fee of $3-5 as well! read more

I've been to the Ripe Tomato multiple times! Each time I went the service was excellent- my favorite appetizer was the Seafood Clam Chowder. The atmosphere was very cozy- since the restaurant is family owned the place was filled with vintage pictures which gives it a great, home like feel. As far as the food, I can't complain one single bit. I highly recommend the Cedar Salmon, it's perfectly grilled and the portion was huge! Brunch is the best at the Ripe Tomato! 15 minutes from skidmore college. The service was very attentive. We arrived a little early and we're given a seat near the bar, where there were cheese and olives waiting. When we got to our seats, we received a Li's of the days specials as well as the regular menu. We ordered half from the specials and half from the menu. Everything was delicious. Ok Nothing to brag about but the bread. Great with the EVO and garlic dip. I had the turkey soup which was so/so and my husband had the salad and liked the blue cheese dressing. Salad was crisp with lots of goodies on it. Another review I read complained about it being iceberg lettuce but my husbands was leafy greens. We both had the pork schnitzel. He liked his. They also have a very neat bar area that looks like one of the rat-pack is going to walk in and sit down. Need to remember it for a place for a quiet happy hour drink. Food is always excellent. The salad with the goat cheese is out of this world. Fresh bread to dip in oliveoil & Garlic, by the time you get to your entree you will likely be taking most of it home. If you are on a budget, share your salad/entree. Crab Mac'n'Cheese, Buffalo Chx Mac'n'Cheese, and the pot roast are my favs. Wine is well priced and they often have very good specials including $15 bottles of Rex Goliath. I grew up in Malta and this place is a staple. My parents and I have been going here for probably 15 years now. Each time I come back to Malta I absolutely have to go for their Sunday brunch. It's incredible! My parents go there for dinner on New Years Eve every year and rave about it. We even had them cater my engagement party and it was delicious! The guests raved about the food. They know us and treat us well but they treat everyone well. In a world full of chain restaurants, it's so nice to have places like this. read more

Our families favorite restaurant in Malta. Excellent Sunday brunch. It is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Dinner is more reasonable and almost a good. This was my second time trying this place. The first time, my waiter was slow and not very friendly, but the chicken picatta was pretty good so I decided to give it a second chance. This time I sat at the bar and thankfully had much better service just dealing with the bartender. She was friendly and made us feel very welcome. I came here this past week while on vacation. I am from out of state so I was excited to try some New York style Italian food. I was with my family (a group of about 7 people) and we racked up close to a $200 bill. The food was excellent, it was very very quick and it tasted absolutely amazing. The chefs cooking is absolutely wonderful and my complaint is not about the food, it is about the waitstaff. The girl who served us was very nice, but halfway through our meal, two waitresses (one with brown hair with blonde streaks and a rather heavy set one) started talking just a few feet away from us in really loud voices. They were talking about the customers and how it takes them a long time to finish eating. They were being very rude and talking sarcastically about the people they were SUPPOSED to be helping. They then started laughing very loud (much louder than me and my family were being; I asked my family later and we ALL heard them talking) and began talking about a date one of the girls went on. It was a very awkward environment to be sitting just a few feet away from waitresses who are talking badly about you. I really loved the food but unfortunately we spent way to much money to be treated this way at the Ripe Tomato. If there were different waitresses who knew how to treat customers I would come back but for now, the Ripe Tomato just lost 8 customers. read more
