I chose to spend my birthday weekend in Boston in this Hotel. It was my first time in Boston as well so I wanted it to be special and memorable. First of all, my sincere thank you to Caren Simmons for our excellent accommodation. The Hotel is  conveniently located near the shops and restaurants, a couple of minutes walk to the Boston Common. It is well maintained despite its old age. The executive suite was spacious and clean. Turn down service was very thoughtful.  Bottled waters were always refilled. The room service was efficient. The bed was comfortable. Sheets felt luxurious. Toiletries were, as usual, my favorite. The breakfast and dinner experience, in terms of food, was just average. The portion was adequate, however, the flavor was not exceptional. The restaurant staff, especially Halima, were all great, attentive and professional. Halima always made us feel welcome. She always had a smile on her face. Our only negative experience was upon check in. Since our room was not ready when we checked in around 11am, we were told by the gentleman that checked us in that he will give us a call but we never received a call. We had to call instead.  Some of the front desk staff was not as warm and welcoming as the others. The concierge was efficient and readily available to assist. read more

I love staying at any ritz carlton around the world because you know the attention to detail and service always will surpass expectations. And the Boston location is no exception. When you come here you're treated like family. It's like coming home. So cozy and inviting. Since we booked with Amex we got upgraded to an executive suite and had a few perks given. Our room was spacious and homey with all the extras. We had a beautiful view of Boston Commons. The location was so centralized to the heart of Boston that it made getting to places super convenient and easy. They give you running maps too, in the morning, if you're into that. The area is perfect for those into fitness. Can't wait to come back for the fall. read more

Severely Overpriced and Misleading The Avery Bar Chocolate Experience at The Avery Bar Ritz Carlton in Boston is $49 per person, and it is nowhere near worth it. This is marketed as a festive chocolate buffet by the fireplace. In reality, the bar is in a very average hotel lobby, not even close to a luxury or Ritz-Carlton-level atmosphere. We arrived early and the fireplace seating was completely empty, yet we were refused those seats because they were supposedly "reserved." There is no way to reserve fireplace seating, and we were told everyone was reserved the same way. It felt arbitrary and dishonest. The hot chocolate was good--that's the only positive. The rest of the desserts were cheap, low-quality, and embarrassing for the price. The spread included dry bite-size brownies, chocolate rum cake, chocolate pretzels, thin chocolate, chocolate clusters, macarons, dry Madeline cookies, Costco like chocolate cookies and chocolate-covered strawberries. Every item tasted like it came straight from a low-end grocery store, with poor-quality chocolate throughout. Nothing tasted fresh, special, or house-made. At $50 per person, this experience borders on a cash grab. The quality doesn't justify the price in any way, and the marketing is misleading. This might be acceptable at $15-$20, but at its current price it's a complete disappointment especially if you are looking for a premium experience. read more

Opposite of elite experience. We are platinum elite members and the experience was mediocre. Our reservation included our dog, after the front desk was less than pleasant at check in, they said they would be bringing dog-friendly supplies to the room. They never did. The room was at courtyard Marriott level. No clue how this hotel can claim ritz status - our room was not only not ready at check in, we had to wait 2 hrs to check in at 6pm with no compensation for the time waiting. read more

Absolutely worth the money for the stay. We've stayed in the regular rooms as well as their suites, and no matter what room you stay in, you are treated incredibly well, greeted with a smile. It's just an amazing hotel with wonderful staff. They ensure that your every need is met and everyone from the doorman to housekeeping is so incredibly kind and welcoming. Nice, but is it worth it? At roughly $1000/night I'd expect more than what feels more like a nice Marriott than a Ritz. Strengths: location, staff. Unremarkable: rooms, bedding. Weaknesses: food (Artisan bistro is very 3-stars as is room service), bar (closed two nights per week, so half our trip), thermostats (off by 2 degrees and engineering said that's their norm), no in-room coffee makers, beds (seemed more twin/full than queen). read more

Kindly send this email to the hotel mgmt. This is NOT a ritz Carlton by any stretch of the imagination. I have stayed in over 500 nights of Marriot properties during my bonvoy membership. Most of them ritz properties around the world. I have never ever written an email or made a complaint. I arrived on Sunday afternoon. One person checking in guests while a group of 10-12 were waiting for the man. He was doing his best. Normally there's a line for bonvoy elite members. None at this property. I get to the room and see the bathroom is more empty than an extended stay America's or motel 6. One soap and shampoo dispensers on the shower. Insane for a ritz. Then to my utter shock i realize that the hotel has no mini bar or snacks in the rooms. Per multiple employees they were removed as it "cost the owner over $500,000 a year". Thats a direct quote. How do you have the audacity to call this a Ritz Carlton charge over $1000 a night. Absolutely shocking. The nightly rate here should be $199-$249. Appreciate this email being sent directly to the hotel management. I would highly suggest removing this as a ritz. Make it a W or maybe Marriot. Thanks. read more

If you're expecting the signature Ritz Carlton entrance, attentive customer service, and a room that leaves you in awe, you will find yourself disappointed. We arrived at the Ritz Carlton in Boston in October 2024 for a late birthday celebration for my mom, who was staying at a Ritz Carlton for the first time. I had hoped that the reviews I read two years earlier, which mentioned various issues with the property, were outdated and that improvements had been made. Unfortunately, it seems those concerns are still very much a reality. While the room was spacious, the layout felt impractical. The towel hook in the bathroom is positioned outside the shower, which means that after drying your hands, it's easy for the towel to fall off. To make matters worse, the other towel racks are located on the far side of the bathroom, away from the shower. The marble sink was cracked, and the toilet seat was also damaged. Additionally, the bathroom features a handheld bidet spray, which is difficult to use--certainly not the proper solution for a luxury hotel. I'll provide pictures to follow. For over $800 per night, these amenities should have been updated to reflect the Ritz Carlton brand. The room also had limited outlets for charging devices, which is surprising for a luxury property. You'd expect to find outlets near the bedside, but there were only two USB-B ports and two at the table, which are outdated considering most electronics now use USB-C. The refrigerator was partially locked, with one side completely inaccessible. It was frustrating since there were no snacks or refreshers stocked, and the locked section served no purpose. It made it difficult to store leftovers or refrigerated items we'd brought with us. When I called the front desk, they couldn't explain why it was locked, only offering to send a technician to unlock it. We decided to skip the interruption and just made do. In the morning, we requested two bowls and spoons to make our own granola and fruit, only to be charged for the request. For the price we were paying, it's hard to understand why the hotel couldn't provide this without charging extra. A few dollars for the hotel wouldn't have been much, but it would have gone a long way in providing outstanding service. I've stayed at multiple Ritz Carltons and St. Regis hotels, and this one has been by far the most underwhelming. The only positives of staying at this property were the attentive and genuinely helpful room service staff, as well as its prime location in the heart of Boston, within walking distance to Copley Square, the Boston Gardens, Boston Common, and more. read more

Alright, great stay, but could be better. It was really nice, and the staff was amazing, but for some ungodly reason you have to pay 16 DOLLARS FOR WIFI AFTER ALREADY SPENDING A FORTUNE ON THE STAY. I've been to multiple hotels and never had to pay for wifi. Heck, even Hilton hotels are free wifi. But just tell me why that after spending an ungodly amount of money on the stay, you have to still pay for wifi. read more

Love this hotel. It's right smack in downtown Boston, next to Boston Commons and a 2 mins walk to China Town. The rooms are updated tho the refrigerators for drinks are locked and not stocked. The entire staff are really helpful and cheerful as what's expected of a 5 star hotel. They have one restaurant in the hotel and they do serve good food. Open from 7am-11am and 4pm to 9pm (pandemic hours I believe). Gym is on the 3rd floor which is actually Equinox Gym. $15 per use and they charge it to your room. Definitely great stay and now one of our favorite hotel when in Boston. read more

I am shocked the ratings on Yelp are so low for this Ritz location. I stay at lot of nice hotels and this one is always great. The check in process is very personal, quick, and convenient. I usually get an upgraded room, helps that I am a Marriott Titanium member. Most recently I got an executive suite and had great rest all three nights I was there. I asked for a Nespresso machine and they brought one with about a 50 pod variety box, totally amazing and no extra cost! The Equinox gym is expensive at $15 a day, but it is a state of the art gym and you can take spin or other Studio classes as part of the fee. The location is great, completely walkable to North End or the water front. The prices can vary dramatically, and I recommend you call to get the best rate. read more

It's so surprising to see a Ritz-Carlton with only a three star average. Seems almost impossible to believe. I would not believe it myself until I experienced why they only have three stars, it's because of their mediocre service and their lack of a traditional "ladies and gentleman" attitude. Sadly, I think that they need to go back to the Ritz Carlton training manual and learn how to take care of their best clients. It all started when we first arrived to the property. It was nearly midnight and raining... And not a person in valet or anyone offering to help. No one. Even the people who came after us had the same issue, where to park their car or how to get help with their bags for a family of four. That's why we pay a premium here, to get help and service as needed. Usually they anticipate it. Check in was a clumsy effort... Due to the computer not cooperating and then they were not able to register my credit card properly and they could not look up my account and see my titanium membership number. It was a long tedious process. Luckily our room is very nice. We are very happy with the comfy bed and amenities. Our only view is another building... But since we're spending lots of time outside it does not matter that much. It became a challenge in the morning to get a coffee machine to make coffee in our room. We waited nearly an hour... And eventually called back to make sure they had our request. I'm not sure why they don't have coffee available in the room all the time like other Ritz properties. After reading many of the other reviews, I read that they had a car service to use around town. I thought that would be very useful... So as we were leaving, we asked the front desk if we can arrange for the car service. They said they stoped the car service so do not expect that to be available anymore. Bummer indeed. What really stung the most though was the fact that I have many upgrade certificates to club level in my member portfolio and they would not honor them. The club level has been closed for a while and they just opened and we did not know that it was gonna be such a big deal and hassle to get access. And with so many club level certificates on file, (63 nights of upgrades) you would think they would want to welcome us happily especially since it would only be for one night since we already missed most of our first night here by arriving so late. After staying more than a dozen Ritz Carlton properties, I am disappointed at the quality of service received here. The hotel is in a great location and had pretty decent amenities and style. Furniture felt pretty sturdy, however I give it 3 stars because even though they are partnered with Equinox to provide all the recreational amenities such as swimming pool, fitness rooms, etc. it was also being used by the Equinox members which meant there was very little capacity to even use the exercise machines. I could not even use the swimming pool because there are 4 people lined up just to use a lane! I would probably look elsewhere.. read more

I have Ambassador status with Marriott so I stay in a lot of Marriott hotels each year. I am not impressed by the rooms. The lobby and checkin was really good. Elevators are slow and crowded most of the time. Cannot call from the phones in the room. Tried to call the concierge and front desk but the phone cuts you off before anyone answers. Bed is comfortable and bathroom is in good shape. You have to pay for lounge access no matter what your status is with Marriott. Overall it's a solid $150 a night hotel, no way is this a $700+ a night location! Please stay someplace else if you are in Boston. read more

Customer service is truly the #1 focus of this hotel. Then again, it's The Ritz Carlton. Check in was smooth and very welcoming. The executive and club suites are spacious, beautifully furnished, linen bedding in the rooms are a high thread count, 1 & 1/2 baths, pull out sofa and nice sitting area. The rooms also included well appointed robes, slippers, great view and an impressive water pressure in the shower. Upgrade to the The Club level. This levels allows you to use the club suites with around the clock food and drinks along with other services like suit presses. The club lounge staff are so incredible and the food is a gastronomic delight! I wasn't going to leave a review, but here we go. Today is our 4th day and 5th night staying here and somehow we can't get a tea service! My daughter and I are on college visits, so it's the two of us staying. After requesting a coffee maker, we realized the Keurig tea pods aren't included, so we also requested a kettle. The kettle arrived without teas, so to avoid calling front desk again, we simply bought our teas. Now we have to deal with the dilemma of tea cups! It's a mathematical oddity - on the first try, we got two cups with 2 saucers. Once these were used, we ended up with 1 cup and 1 saucer. I should've counted my blessings, because the next day I ended up with 1 cup no saucer... concierge keeps sending up another kettle. Short version: Be prepared to be treated with less respect because you booked a standard room and didn't look like someone going there for business, and you're someone who does not have "Titanium Status." Location is nice though. Long version: This was our first time staying at the Ritz-Carlton, and we had really high expectations since it is a 5-star hotel after all. To preface this, my husband and I were celebrating our honeymoon in Boston, and we let them know this when we booked our stay. We booked a king room, so this experience may differ from the other suites they have. Let me start with the positive aspects of our stay, as this list will be rather short. - We enjoyed the location of the hotel. It was right next to Chinatown and Boston Common (a super beautiful park). - The chocolates were good. - The room attendants and cleaning staff were very polite and helpful. Now on to the negative parts of our stay: This place felt more like a 3-star than a 5-star hotel. - The room had less amenities than a non-luxury Marriot hotel (which is the parent company of Ritz). We visited a relative who happened to be staying at the Renaissance (a Marriot hotel in South Boston) and we noted that their rooms had nicer views and the exact same amenities (plus a mini fridge that is not just for bottled drinks and a coffee maker). The beds and pillows felt exactly the same. The furniture in their room was newer. - There is no free gym with this hotel even though most booking websites will advertise like it is included with your stay (which it should be for how much you're paying for the room). The gym is an Equinox Gym, but you have to pay an extra 20 dollars per day to use it and it is not exclusive to the hotel. - The lighting was dim and a little depressing. The overall decorations for the hotel were little and mediocre. - A valet parking fee was on our bill at checkout, despite the fact that we don't have a car. It doesn't make sense that we would have this charge at all as there was never any mention of us needing parking. There should be no confusion about if someone did or did not have valet parking. We noted this happened to some other people in other reviews. - They did not do anything special for our honeymoon - which was disappointing because most nice places will. A relative said that when they went to a different Ritz for an anniversary, the experience was amazing, they were given a bottle of nice champagne, their room was upgraded to one with a nicer view and the staff was very friendly to them. This Ritz did not do anything until prompted with a question on the last day of our stay. They brought us what tasted like chocolate covered pop rocks and 4 other assorted chocolates haphazardly placed onto a plate, and a typed out note that basically just said thanks for staying with us on your honeymoon. This looked nothing like the pictures we've seen from other positive reviewers, so we were highly disappointed. - Our room faced an apartment building and a tiny sliver of the park. Finally, despite the fact that you are paying more money than usual to be a guest here, the hotel staff will treat you differently based on the way you look and act. The doorman was rude to us, and the concierge wouldn't even look at us when we walked by. We were never greeted in any way when we came in and out of the hotel, but we noticed that other guests that came in right before us would be greeted. I would rather stay in a place where the staff treats you well regardless. We will not be coming back to this location and we will be skeptical of other Ritz locations in the future. read more

This Ritz-Carlton is the most bland and empty hotel than any Ritz I have ever visited before. Building is dark and outdated. There is not a grain of sugar or drop of water, juice or soda in the room's fridge or a coffee maker. You have to call to get water or soda or coffee maker and they bring one item at the time and they forget and also don't pick up the phone so be prepared to make few trips downstairs for any simple thing. Cars are park right behind the property but still Vale takes 10 to 15 minutes and you see three or four of Valet personnel chatting outside the hotel but don't attend their desk to pick up the phone. Customer seevice is way below rhe standard in every level that I tried the hotel. I would say four star will be a proper fit for this hotel building. read more

As someone who travels 200+ nights a year, I've become a self proclaimed "hotel snob." I've had the pleasure of staying at several Ritz properties as well as JW, St. Regis, and Four Seasons. I've lost my love affair with Ritz over the past several years as the brand in my opinion has gone downhill. My company is based out of Boston so I am here frequently and normally stay at The Liberty. We came to Boston to see Billy Joel at Fenway. I was slightly skeptical due to few negative reviews on TA, but booked regardless. I didn't know what a treat we would be in for. **disclosure: I do have Titanium status** Upon check-in we were told that our room wasn't ready, and wouldn't be for a few hours. Not the best start. As my other half was getting ready in the restroom, they did some magic and had a room for us. The hotel was 100% booked so there were no upgrades available. Fine by me, as I never count on them. If I want a better room, I can always book it. We were pleasantly surprised to have a top floor room overlooking the garden. The house car was always available to take us to our destination, and the drivers provided the right amount of city education while not over-talking. Concierge was fantastic, booking us a last minute massage next door at Equinox. While a separate review, one of the best either of us has had. The highlight is here... checking in we discussed what we were in town for. We came back from the concert Saturday night to find a handwritten card, picture of Billy Joel, and a treat from someone very thoughtful at the front desk. These are the "little things" they differentiate a brand and a property from the rest. What an amazing experience. I've found my new go-to Boston hotel. read more

I was here in December and the manager, Sara, gave me a room with the best view of the Boston Common. I came back this month and they found my info and she and Brian made it happen again for me. Our greeting was the best. I love businesses who take care of their customers. They were so nice to me that I told my family about it and my brother made reservation to come. What I love the most about my room, besides the bed and how roomy it is, it's the bathroom layout but mostly the shower. The water comes out with just enough force and it massages your body. My fiancé and I wanted to spend a romantic evening in my favorite city and what better way to splurge then to book a hotel at the Ritz? I reserved our spot easily online about a month and a half before our stay through the Marriott Bonvoy app in which I redeemed some of my points. The staff was great through the entire process, even before we got there we were contacted via email and by phone to see how best they could accommodate us. We asked for a corner king on a higher level with a great view as an upgrade and that is exactly what we got. We arrived about an hour earlier than the advertised check-in time and our room was available for us. Oana checked us in and asked us if we needed a late check out the following day. She also asked us a little bit about our stay. She then recommended that if we had any questions about what to do in the area that we visit concierge. Before we went up to our room we stopped by concierge to ask a few questions and the girl was very young and seemed to be quite unfamiliar with the property and the city. It didn't make me feel confident to listen to her advice, but I know the city well enough that I knew we would be fine. A bellman soon approached us and helped us with our luggage. He was very talkative and asked us a lot about our stay. After he helped us with our luggage he then went on to tell us that we had one of the best views in all of the property. That made us feel very happy! We did have a tremendous view of the Boston Commons and the entire city as it was in the 11th floor. He also left his card in case we needed anything else during our stay-which was lovely. Our room was spacious and beautiful. We wished we were staying a little bit longer. We had to be up early the next morning to catch a flight back to California. There is an Equinox fitness club adjacent to the hotel, it is a $13 fee for hotel guests. There is valet parking available for $60 per night. There is a restaurant/bistro adjacent to the hotel as well. It was a Sunday afternoon and we were looking for a place to watch the Patriot's game. We decided on the hotel restaurant. Look no further than your own backyard, right? There were two TVs and the bartender turned up the volume on the other one for us. We ordered a flatbread, buffalo wings, and a salad that were all so tasty and delicious. My fiancé order a Guinness and I ordered a cocktail off of their wellness menu. The fact that they had a wellness cocktail menu made me very excited. I got the Midnight in Kyoto which consisted of Matcha green tea, CBD oil, coconut rum, and coconut and mint shavings. It was delicious shaken with a foam topping. All together, including tip and tax, we ran a $120 bill for two cocktails and three food items, so of course it was on the pricier side being a hotel restaurant. It is in a perfect location in walking distance to the Commons, the theater district, and many restaurants, bars, and shopping areas. It's about 15 minutes away from the airport, depending on traffic. The checkout process was seamless and unlike other Marriott hotels, my points were posted almost immediately to my profile. Overall, this was a lovely stay nothing to complain about. The only thing I wish were different was that they would have more benefits included for Elite members. The concierge lounge they have available is $150 extra even for the highest status of being a Marriott number. Also the fact that parking is $60 and the gym costs $13 extra wasn't appealing. On top of how expensive it is to stay here, one would assume more things would be included. We used our Marriott points and that was a lot of points to stay there. Out of pocket, the only thing we ended up paying for was our meal and drinks at the Bistro. There is someone who comes to clean twice a day if you wish to have that, if not be sure to hang your privacy sign. They also offered a really cute amenity from 4 to 5 PM at the Bistro For children to make their own caramel apple. They had an entire station lined up and someone there teaching the kids what to do. I thought that was a cute, (free) extra thing that was exciting for the children there. I'm curious because there was also something called the Ritz Carlton residences located within the same property. I meant to ask somebody if that meant people actually lived there. What a life! Overall, I likely will not return to this hotel because of the high prices, but it is a beautiful property in a great location with a very pleasant staff. read more

The Ritz in Boston is right near everything you need. Cambridge is near and Harvard is close. The hotel is a beautiful Ritz. It is not as large as some of the other Ritz properties, but everything you expect in a Ritz is there for your comfort. The rooms are lovely, spotless, and comfortable. The WiFi works great. The restaurant has really good food and we had breakfast there every morning and dinner once. The staff is great. They know the City well and can direct you around and help with transportation and any other needs you may have. Enjoy. read more

We have stayed at many Ritz's before and this came as a shock. There were NO restaurants open except for 1 which was open from 6-7 for dinner. Room service was offered from 9-10. This is what I imagine a motel 6 to be like. It was hell. Oh and if you want to use any of the ritz facilities, you have to join equinox next store. The very best part is the manager offered me 20,000 points which equals $100 for our inconvenience. I believe our bill came out to about $3000 dollars. Listen to me and avoid this place! read more

Just returned from a two night stay at The Ritz-Carlton Boston.... Positives: -- Beautiful rooms...we had a large suite with two bathrooms, a living room, dining room, and a huge bedroom. The room was in good condition for the most part, and the furnishings were nice. -- Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. -- Location is central. -- Room service prices are quite reasonable considering. Negatives: -- Upon checking into our room we found stained robes and sheets. After a call down to housekeeping everything was rectified, and the manager sent up a note and a plate of cookies as an apology. -- Room service was kind of a mess both times we ordered breakfast. The first day breakfast took closer to an hour to arrive (despite being told 35 minutes or less). Upon arrival many items were missing. Same thing this morning. The person checking us out was kind enough to remove all food from our bill after asking about our stay, which was very nice of him (ultimately breakfast was included in our Amex rate so we wouldn't have paid for it anyway, not sure if he knew that). -- Room view wasn't great but nothing we couldn't live with. -- Didn't like that we had to pay $15 to use the gym...this should be complimentary for sure. -- Pool was closed for the weekend, which makes no sense to me. Worse check in experience! Not the Ritz Carlton service experience. Lady at front desk check in area even stated they commonly overbook rooms which is why they were not able to get us into our room any earlier though they promised to do so when we originally arrived. Misplaced our bags for a brief moment then delivered them to our room but also sent up a black bag that was not ours. No quality check to ensure bags are connected with the rightful owner. Checked in Saturday (8/31) and as of Monday (9/2) saw that we were charged a nightly rate for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Completely incorrect since we paid for the entire hotel and airfare via Expedia. Called at 9:15pm on September 2, confirmed we had prepaid and that we should not have been charged again for nightly room rate. Per Paulina, she confirmed mistake and promised to have nightly room rate charges reversed. Wow...how does this happen and especially at a place like the Ritz??? read more

Stopped at this place on my way home one day for dinner and really enjoyed what they had to offer. They have a great selection and wide variety of appetizers and main entrees to choose from. I started with their fresh greens/frisée salad which was tossed to perfection with a light coating of dressing and finished with a plate of rigatoni bolognese. So it's a Ritz Carlton so the level of expectation is high. What I loved about my room was the bathroom! So spacious and I am a fan of desperate toilet space. So it's a small room to the side of the shower and the amazing soaking tub for one! And they have a bath service where you can call ahead and they will run you a bath with specific bath salts of your choice! The other thing I loved was how quiet it is. I don't hear people in the hallway or in the next room, I like the quiet. It's in the heart of downtown so you are close to the park and gardens. Makes getting around easy. The concierge is very helpful. read more

One of my favorite places to stop when downtown!! Love the open and airy feeling. Big windows let the sun come in and quiet enough with areas to work on your laptop for a while if you need to. The staff are all very helpful and friendly! The doormen take excellent care of all patrons, I was even offered an umbrella when leaving in the rain. Great place to grab dessert and hot tea on a cold day! Their wine and cognac selections are the best I've seen in the city. read more
