Love this hotel. It's right smack in downtown Boston, next to Boston Commons and a 2 mins walk to China Town. The rooms are updated tho the refrigerators for drinks are locked and not stocked. The entire staff are really helpful and cheerful as what's expected of a 5 star hotel. They have one restaurant in the hotel and they do serve good food. Open from 7am-11am and 4pm to 9pm (pandemic hours I believe). Gym is on the 3rd floor which is actually Equinox Gym. $15 per use and they charge it to your room. Definitely great stay and now one of our favorite hotel when in Boston.

I am shocked the ratings on Yelp are so low for this Ritz location. I stay at lot of nice hotels and this one is always great. The check in process is very personal, quick, and convenient. I usually get an upgraded room, helps that I am a Marriott Titanium member. Most recently I got an executive suite and had great rest all three nights I was there. I asked for a Nespresso machine and they brought one with about a 50 pod variety box, totally amazing and no extra cost! The Equinox gym is expensive at $15 a day, but it is a state of the art gym and you can take spin or other Studio classes as part of the fee. The location is great, completely walkable to North End or the water front. The prices can vary dramatically, and I recommend you call to get the best rate.

It's so surprising to see a Ritz-Carlton with only a three star average. Seems almost impossible to believe. I would not believe it myself until I experienced why they only have three stars, it's because of their mediocre service and their lack of a traditional "ladies and gentleman" attitude. Sadly, I think that they need to go back to the Ritz Carlton training manual and learn how to take care of their best clients. It all started when we first arrived to the property. It was nearly midnight and raining... And not a person in valet or anyone offering to help. No one. Even the people who came after us had the same issue, where to park their car or how to get help with their bags for a family of four. That's why we pay a premium here, to get help and service as needed. Usually they anticipate it. Check in was a clumsy effort... Due to the computer not cooperating and then they were not able to register my credit card properly and they could not look up my account and see my titanium membership number. It was a long tedious process. Luckily our room is very nice. We are very happy with the comfy bed and amenities. Our only view is another building... But since we're spending lots of time outside it does not matter that much. It became a challenge in the morning to get a coffee machine to make coffee in our room. We waited nearly an hour... And eventually called back to make sure they had our request. I'm not sure why they don't have coffee available in the room all the time like other Ritz properties. After reading many of the other reviews, I read that they had a car service to use around town. I thought that would be very useful... So as we were leaving, we asked the front desk if we can arrange for the car service. They said they stoped the car service so do not expect that to be available anymore. Bummer indeed. What really stung the most though was the fact that I have many upgrade certificates to club level in my member portfolio and they would not honor them. The club level has been closed for a while and they just opened and we did not know that it was gonna be such a big deal and hassle to get access. And with so many club level certificates on file, (63 nights of upgrades) you would think they would want to welcome us happily especially since it would only be for one night since we already missed most of our first night here by arriving so late. After staying more than a dozen Ritz Carlton properties, I am disappointed at the quality of service received here. It feels like they really do not care about making it as special as they could.

For a hotel of this status I'm surprised they dont acknowledge repeat customers. "Welcome Back" or a different note in the room than the formulaic one from guest services. There are many hotel options in Boston which we have also enjoyed that seem to pay closer attention to their repeat guests. Just a thought. We will continue to return regardless :)

The not-so-good: we booked a suite and were originally shown a room on the 11th floor which was very dark and faced a brick building. We requested another room and were moved to a much better room facing the park on the 3rd floor. Neither room was worth the $1k price point but at least the second room was an improvement. It should be noted the elevators are very slow and the wait was 5-10 minutes no matter the time of day. The bad: Contessa has almost zero vegan options... not even oatmeal which was odd. Even the acai bowl had milk in it! I ended up ordering a slice of focaccia, a laughable fruit plate (which was $20), and orange juice. Room service was no better in terms of option...one night I ordered the rigatoni marinara clearly stating that I am a vegan and it arrived an hour later covered in parmesan cheese. None of the above would have been a big deal at a $500-$600 price point, but at $1k per night our experience was disappointing. I doubt we'll stay at the Newbury again.

That time due to everything going on in the world with minimal travel we enjoyed a cheap rate for an entire weekend with probably the best view offered for the hotel of TD Garden as well as the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge. Which I know it's just a bridge but it was a nice sight for an in-city view. This most recent stay was due to a concert at TD Garden my wife and I were in town for. Which I will say if you are looking for a place to stay for an event at TD Garden, good luck finding a better option than here! Check in staff and valet workers were friendly and greeted us with a smile. Rates were very reasonable for end of summer and with a concert so close. Room was smaller this stay around and our view was more of just a building with a small glance of TD Garden if you looked to the side. Overall a very clean room and still a good amount of space. Can not think of any complaints for our stay and would stay here again. They offer valet parking and anytime we needed the car it was quick to get it back. Inside the lobby/first floor they have plenty of seating and what they dub "The Bistro" that offers breakfast, dinner, and full bar and I believe Starbucks drinks too. Location wise it is quite ideal, obviously if your activities/work is in this area of Boston. Besides TD Garden it is also close to North station along with plenty of food and drink options. Personally for a morning coffee or matcha I say check out Blank Street Coffee, then food wise I would say take a quick walk to the North End or closer try Tavern In The Square. Definitely a hotel worth looking into while visiting Boston!

We were on our way out to Fenway, so the friendly gentleman at the front desk was kind enough to give us walking directions after he showed us around the guest spaces and our room. Room: 5 Our room was impeccable with impressive personal touches and attention to detail. Little things like Fiji water, fresh soft towels (and a black towel for makeup), full array of toiletries, and a welcoming comfortable firm bed. Despite having alllll the things to do in Boston, I was excited to get back to that room and that bed, and I slept like a log. I like a good bed when I'm traveling and I would never stay at another place if I had the option. My favorite aspect was having a separate bedroom and living area (with pull out couch). All things comparable, I've stayed in a thousand hotels, I've traveled Boston thoroughly. This will be my go-to forever. Whether traveling single, as a couple, or with my kids, I will look at 284 first and foremost. Kid-friendly: yes! I would definitely stay here with my kids (ages 9, 11, 13). The environment was beautifully decorated for Christmas, like last year, and I had to take some pictures to have as desktop wallpaper on my computer. We had a very nice time and the selections on the menu were impressive. I went with the carrot cake chai black tea, mainly because it had pumpkin pie kinds of spices and vanilla rooibos. It tasted wonderful, like an autumnal tea, and all our teas came in beautifully decorated tea pots, apparently from Australia. The Four Seasons also does this interesting thing where they give you a liquor that fits with your tea order, to be added if you wish or drank by itself. I had a sip of mine and from someone else's, a bit strong for me but a bailey's one was alright. I'm fine with just tea myself! As for the food, this year's high tea was one of the best I've had. The menu was different from last year's, which was great too but in my opinion this seemed like an upgrade. Some of the food items included pieces of salmon in a little pastry, mini lobster roll, peking duck crepe, curried chicken croissant, a beautiful deviled egg, vanilla bean and brown butter scones, an eggnog tart, and a Santa hat shaped raspberry pastry. We even got some alternate options for a lactose sensitive person, so that's a great plus as well. The atmosphere was elegant and calming, and the service was great. The Four Seasons high tea was a very special holiday event, and comes highly recommended!
