We drive through The Dalles two times a year to go to Portland and we usually stop to eat at a popular local place, just off the interstate, that has homestyle food. I'm following the Keto diet, so checked out other lunch options online in The Dalles. I'm really glad I did. I got a great salad, Cobb Wild, with perfectly cooked bacon and an over-medium fried egg on top and delicious homemade ranch dressing. My niece and nephew got really good sandwiches made with local artisan bread. The Riv has really good coffee drinks and smoothies along with organic sodas and beers. The owner served us at the counter and he is very personable. The Riv, formerly a church, is located in a historic area mixed with older houses and churches. It's a short drive off the freeway, but easy to find. Definitely going there again the next time I go through The Dalles. read more

We had our wedding at the Riverenza this summer and the couple, Molly and Greg, who run it are amazing. They helped us with set up, organizing the timing of all the stressful details and even advised us on where to go for catering and flowers. The wedding was perfect and we couldn't have been happier. Was lucky enough to officiate a wedding at this adorable venue. Located in an old church, it is quaint, cozy, and truly beautiful. More so, I was incredibly impressed at how quickly they were able to turn it around from a wedding/chapel setting to a table setting for dinner. It was gorgeous, and truly perfect for the couple I was marrying. Would recommend this as a potential place for a wedding reception, or other event. read more

Loved the food. The atmosphere was nice. The meals we ordered were $6-8 each. We split two of them between four kids, and that was sufficient. They will customize paninis if you like. Gluten free is available. The dining room management was a little confusing for someone who hadn't been there before. I always find it disconcerting to have a tip space to fill in on a credit card receipt when no service has yet been rendered. I am inclined not to tip at all in that case until after I have eaten, since I think service ought to determine tips. The service also, while perfectly friendly, was not sit down service. You get your own water and napkins, salt and pepper, and coffee. They take your order at a counter and then bring the food out. Getting the extra plates and knives took a few times asking. Five meals cost around $39 excluding the tip. read more

Family road trip from Boise to Portland. We had to get off the road for a bit and get some lunch, and a quick look at Yelp led us here. Halleluja! This little converted church serves up heavenly food! I had the soup and grilled cheese (yum!), my pizza-crazy son had the pizza panini (yum!), my daughter had the Chicken Ranch Club panini (yum!) and my husband had the most masculine sandwich in the land: The Bravado (yum!) This place is wonderful! We came in with no warning and needed a order of breakfast for 18 people. They made it happen with no hesitation and fast! The food was great and they even loaned us their coffee pot for the weekend. We had a party of 7 that came in at different times. The ladies accommodated the many different requests without blinking. Very nice people. All guests reported good reviews on their food choices and coffee. I had a mocha which was excellent and tomato soup and grilled cheese panini, also delicious. Stopped here for lunch on a Monday and pretty much had the place to ourselves. We all had the tomato basil soup. Two orders came with the grilled cheese and I ordered just the cup of soup and it came with garlic toast. The grilled cheese looked ooey gooey and delicious. Have ate here several times. The food is really good. The staff are friendly and you don't have to wait a long time for your burger.

I was so glad I skipped the obvious chain places by the freeway and asked Siri for "breakfast near me" when passing through The Dalles. Just a few minutes south of I-84 is this gem of a cafe/coffee shop where I had the BEST avocado toast. Thinly sliced cucumbers on top of avocado on top of excellent bread with crushed red pepper on the top was the perfect breakfast. I call it "elevated road trip fare." The folks who work in (and maybe run) the cafe were very friendly and the spacious layout in a converted church was perfect for a little downtime at the start of a long drive. read more

Food was wonderful, I highly recommend the biscuits and gravy, it was crispy and the gravy was flavorful. One thing to note is that they gave my friend two straws for her drink for here and to go, whereas she would have preferred to forgo a straw to reduce her plastic waste. I love coming here! The atmosphere is always relaxing and welcoming. It is a little crazier right around 3:30 with the after school crowd, but the beautiful barista served coffe without missing a beat.
