This place never disappoints I live in Boynton, but when I'm up in North Palm Beach working I always stop here with lunch or dinner. This restaurant has slowly declined over the last couple of years and today was our last visit. - every door including the restroom is plastered with a sign that says: A 20% service charge is added to every check to ensure fair wages. What? As if the amount of posted signage was not enough, they leave a 8 1/2 x 11 notice in big black bold type on every table. - This move disincentivizes all servers to provide exceptional service as they know they are getting an automatic tip. This was certainly the case during our visit. All servers were gathered at the end of the bar talking instead of working and out on the floor. - If I was to get exceptional service I'm inclined (having spent 56 years in the business) to leave better than 20%. When I'm forced into a tip, I leave no extra. Good servers lose as a result of poor decisions on the part of management. - The food while tasty, was less than expected from a quantity perspective. A bowl described as Shrimp and Scallops over pasta had 2 scallops and 2 shrimp. Sat for about 10 minutes with no one coming by, my husband got up and walked around to look for food on other tables to get an idea! No food on people's table. The macadamia crusted grouper was a very good fish sandwhich. The fish tacos were not very good, the mahi was tough. The service wasn't great. They did not refill our waters, and they got my order wrong. I asked for fried rice but was given french fries. They did correct the issue, but it took a long time to get the rice, so it really messed up the flow of our meal. As a note, they charge a 20% service charge to on all checks 'to be able to pay a living wage'. I think that's crap. Pay your employees a living wage and adjust your menu prices to suit that. Adding a forced percentage isn't as woke as you think it is...makes me feel like the restaurant is pulling something. read more

Well we were in time for the last part of happy hour but did not partake. Started with drinks and a fish dip appetizer which came with veggies, crackers, jalapenos, & those Greek peppers added bonus. One of the better fish dips we've tried. For some reason my bland drinks of lemonade and the ginger ale were really watered down. I guess it meant just drinking water with lemons. I had the conch chowder and that too needed a little more tomato paste it too was rather watered down. My husband had the onion soup and he stated his was fine. Must be my night to get things watered down. The main entree outdid itself, it was the Parmesan & herb encrusted grouper on a bed of spinach Parmesan risotto which was delicious. A note to the chef is that he should have waited the spinach on one side in olive oil and a little garlic then added to the risotto because it shows that it was added and tossed as the risotto came off the stove. Hubby had a tuna sarachi salad with cucumbers, grape tomatoes over a bed of seaweed in a bowl and that awesome and very tasty. Something new for me to try on my family at home. The portions were really large and completely satisfying. So the drinks may have been watered down out of the machine but the meal made up for it in spades. Glad they were in their off season so there was no wait for a table and we went there early enjoying the atmosphere on the water and taking our time savoring the food as we went along. This is an excellent option for a nice atmosphere with a great variety of food and good service. We visited here twice and ordered everything from nice entrees to the burgers. The grouper sandwich also earned wonderful reviews as it was huge and delicious. The Mediterranean bowl was my favorite with a slight hint of spice and a light sauce it complimented the ingredients perfectly. They do add a 20% gratuity but the ser justifies it. The only downside was we walked in on Mother's Day and group of girls working the hostess stand were unable to answer if they were taking walk ins. They kept saying they had reservations. They were very confused and no manager ever came to help them. Two customers yelled at them because none of the five hostesses could answer questions. I do realize that this restaurant did state they automatically add on a 20% gratuity, but when the laminated paper on the table said that it was to make sure the servers got a "Fair wage" I was in disagreement with this policy. A tip is earned. Our service was barely just acceptable and we did see the waitress standing on her phone multiple times. This is a great place for fresh seafood and sushi with waterfront dining. It is not fancy in any way. Just simple key west pastel decor with a plentiful amount of nautical items including a very large taxidermy sailfish at the entrance. There is plenty of inside and outside seating and an outside bar as well as a covered outside dining area for group gatherings for special occasions. The reservation system is very simple for table booking. and we were promptly seated outside under a well shaded umbrella. The specials menu was very nice and we started with the conch fritters. Nice in size and full of conch pieces. We also ordered the grilled fish tacos which came with fries. The Fish Tacos were filled with a housemade sauce and coleslaw, and the Tuna Poke Bowl was the best thing from the menu. It had a very generous amount of fresh chopped sushi grade tuna mixed with cucumbers, avocado and tomatoes on top of seaweed salad. The spicy masago dressing was not spicy at all but very good. It came with tortilla chips which was a little weird and would have been perfect if it had sesame crackers or seaweed chips on the side. We were hesitant after reading the reviews but both the service and the food were great. They were busy so our waiter was very busy but always polite and we were well taken care of. I highly recommend the salad with your choice of protein. It was a large, fresh salad and a very generous piece of fish. I went with the blackened mahi mahi. Great spot for the kids too. The bartender was very sweet and when I ordered my drink, which is vodka and soda with 3 limes, he squeezed the 3 limes into my drink and garnished with a lime. Ambiance is great here, just chill out and watch the boats flowing on the Intracoastal. Great chicken and seafood dishes I've enjoyed here. Never disappointed and service was good too. The location is excellent with the perfect relaxed atmosphere. A beautiful place to sit outside and watch the boats and nature go by. If you are a fellow boater like me, you will love the Docks and ease to the Intercoastal Waterway via C-17 Canal later also known as the Earman River. The menu has a great mix of seafood, grilled favorites, and classic bar dishes. The Lunch Bowls are delicious and available before 4pm with the Seafood Risotto my favorite and the Spicy Mediterranean is a close second. If you love Taco's... Mahi Mahi and Grouper Tacos are fantastic!! The bar has a wide range of local craft beers, tropical cocktails, and an extensive list of wines. The wait staff and bartenders make the difference, always friendly and make you feel welcomed. If I had to mention one downside, it would be that the outdoor seating can get a bit crowded during peak hours, but that is expected given the popularity of this local establishment. It's been a while since I went to Frigate's and I won't be going back anytime soon... We popped in at 4:30p for a late lunch/happy hour (HH) after working all day. We ordered the HH wings, cheeseburger sliders and blackened chicken nachos. So I'm not quite sure how this happened but the cheese on the nachos was ice cold and tasted charred at the same time. The prosecco they served was straight out of restaurant depot (Zonin) can't get any cheaper but they charged $9/split and what normally would be considered the well drinks Capt Morgan & Diet Coke were $10 each. My husband said the wings and sliders were "okay". My friend joined us and had the fish dip for $17 and two N.A. Coronas for $6.50 each. Frigates charged us a 20% service fee for less than adequate service and less than subpar quality food. FYI they serve ultra cheap liquor for HH and still don't offer much of a discount. This place started out great years ago and has continued to go downhill. Save your time and money and go somewhere else worth the money. I realize business may have dropped off a bit due to bridge construction but dropping your quality while keeping your prices high is not the answer. Frigates needs to get it together or call Bar Rescue ASAP! read more

Frigate's I really have no words. I was expecting good food and ambiance but sadly the main one (hell yeah it's the food) didn't meet my standards at all. We ate outside which was packed but still lovely cause the breeze was just right and it wasn't hot. I ordered 3 oysters on the half shell. One of them looked mangled, I'm not even exaggerating. I asked the waitress to trade it out and she did but not before having a ton of excuses why it's normal. Entree: they offered a one pound snow crab special with 2 sides. Everything on my plate was 1 star. The asparagus was wrinkled and old, the risotto was dry clump of unseasoned mess, and the crab legs were overcooked and sticking to the shell. The proof is in the pics! This was my first time dining here but not my companion's. For some place I'm forced to valet, I'd expect a much better presentation, experience, and fresher food. It's one thing for food to be unseasoned, my TX tastebuds are used to that here in Palm Beach but overcooked, dry and untasty definitely takes the cake! read more

We have not been here in a while but so glad we decided to check it out again. We sat outside at the bar area and started with a couple of beers which were ice cold & delicious. Started with a couple soups very tasty. We shared a french dip & jambalaya. The sandwich was okay but a little bland and the jambalaya was really delicious it came with a side salad which was a nice touch. The service at the bar was really awesome they had sports on all tv's & the huge fan kept it breezy. The construction is not optimal but that is just temporary. I am so disappointed in Frigates right now I probably won't go back or recommend this place to anyone. I have been dining in this establishment for over 10 years and I believe they must have changed management. I showed up at 4:00PM with my wife and mother in law. We waited over 20 minutes before someone came to greet us and take my drink and appetizer order. That's only after I called the manager over to complain about the wait time. We all order the same dish the macadamia coconut crusted grouper sandwich to have after the appetizer of wings. The main dishes came out and my wife and mother in law was given a half portion each. An error made by the waiter who seemed overwhelmed and distracted. When the manager came over to ask us how our meal was I gave him an earful on how disappointed and dissatisfied with the service and the food. The lettuce on the plates was probably a couple of days old and the tomato was over ripened and mushy. The fries were cold and probably stayed on the counter for 15 minutes. He apologized and walked away. He didn't even ask if he can make it up to us. He didn't even offer a slice of cake to make up for the experience. Now the best is they have a set 20% gratuity charge that is non negotiable so no matter how bad the service is the wait staff still gets a good tip. A horrible experience. As the dinner rush began, our waitress became scarce, and we waited a long time for our drinks, which returned with flat beer foam. The food was overall just okay. From Yelp photos, it seems the lobster roll portions vary. The Tahini Salmon was reportedly good, but the fish and chips were mediocre, and the crab legs were overcooked. I had the new york strip with mashed potatoes, side of creamed spinach, and added on grilled shrimp (6 for $13). Steak was cooked to a perfect medium and uniquely flavored. Creamed spinach was my favorite side; one could taste the parmesan cheese. Mashed potatoes weren't as good as my homemade ones; they tasted instant.
