I had an unfortunate incident at this establishment last week, I'm just going to tell the story. But this message is for John, anyone else who reads it can take whatever they like from this. Long story short (attempt) - My group was invited to kareoke at the Tavern. There's about 10-15 of us in total (give or take depending on the night) and we have a few bars we patronize frequently. I was cut off after two drinks, which seemed odd to me, but it's the establishments call of course. I didn't ask why, just said "okay I'll take my tab then". All of the sudden another bartender aggressively points at me and says "You got a problem?!". I said "No, just paying my tab." My friend was next to me, asked what was going on, I told him they cut me off, and that I thought this was kinda stupid. That same bartender then points at me again and yells "You got something to say?!", I responded "Not to you", he then said "sounds like you have a problem...". I finally took the bait and said "Yes, you're all a bunch of idiots.." After getting the reaction he was searching for he excitedly said "You can go then!", I said "With pleasure". Since that's what I was going to do anyway, because I'd been cut off of course (no reason to stay). I went back to my table to shoot the rest of my second drink, and tell my friends I was leaving. As I was walking away a few people at the bar supported my outburst saying "Dude you're right, that guy's a D**k, etc...) Before I could talk to my friends the door guy came over and said "Alright A**, you're out of here" - that's the aggression he STARTED with, I then told him there's no need for that, I'm just going to finish my drink and leave. He then slapped the drink out of my hand and said no you're not. I put my hands up to try and deescalate, and told him to calm down (which is HIS job). He then insulted my recently deceased mother... and from there I'm obviously not proud of anything that happened after that. Needless to say we then ended up outside yelling at each other, this is where John came out, introduced himself as the owner. I was obviously heated, but I apologized for disrespecting his establishment and tried to explain to him what happened. That NONE of this needed to happen, I was TRYING to leave quietly and his staff escalated the situation to where we are now... John then called me an a**hole and told me to leave or he'll call the cops. Now, I've learned a lot about John and his business over the last few days. As an operator of three bars myself we do have some mutual associates. John had a scary situation a little while back and taking on this venture was part of his recovered lease on life. Obviously, it's a learning process, and he's doing his best. It's an amazing story and I applaud him for doing it. Again, as an operator, I'm doing my best to make sure he understands what happened that night, and that, while I'm obviously not innocent in this situation, the staff could've avoided all of it if they we're properly guided and trained. Again, I'M the "drunk A**", it's up to the staff to maintain professionalism and composure. Instead they STARTED the altercation, and escalated, until it was too far gone. And you don't need to take my word for it of course, check the cameras, you'll clearly see the bar staff pointing and antagonizing. Which is where this all started. Again... I was paying my tab and leaving. (tipped 20% too) I hope this works out for you John, but based on the info I've seen/heard from some of your friends and associates, if you're wondering why your bar is half empty instead of all full... and why half the people left that night even before the incident... your staff is definitely part of that. I recently had the misfortune of dining here, and let me tell you, it's as bad as everyone says. Full disclosure this was our second miserable experience here, but we came for a friends birthday so it got another chance, still terrible and they've somehow gotten worse. First off, the service was abysmal. We waited 20 minutes just to be acknowledged, and when our server finally showed up to let us know that we needed to order with a qr code because they couldn't be bothered, they seemed more interested in their phone than in taking our order. It felt like we were an inconvenience rather than guests. The food? Don't get me started. I ordered the "signature" sliders, which was as dry as cardboard and tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for days. My friend's wings were overcooked and drowning in a bland sauce that had no flavor whatsoever. The only highlight of the meal was the free fries we got because they messed up... but even those were stale. The atmosphere was no better. The place was too loud, with a strange mix of music that felt like a bad playlist from the '90s. The decor was outdated, and the tables were sticky--never a good sign. To top it all off, the bathroom was a disaster. It was dirty and clearly hadn't been cleaned in ages. Also, an automatic 20 percent gratuity added to the bill for the 2 times we actually interacted with someone who "worked" there. Overall, I wouldn't recommend to anyone. Came in last week (experience was terrible, gross place, bad wings, and overpriced drinks) Usually I just wouldn't come back, I'm leaving the review because I noticed that the bartenders were constantly asking people to leave 5 star reviews on yelp "it would really help us out". Which made me curious, so I went on Yelp, and a few other places, and found out WHY. They are desperately trying to cover up an absolutely HORRIBLE reputation. On this site alone they've had dozens of reviews "not included in the rating" (you can still see them if you click on "not recommended reviews" at the bottom) Covering up reviews documenting terrible experiences from bad food and rude service to groping, harassment, and assaults of women. I'm sure this one will get "hidden" as well, because that's just what happens here, but the other reviews have been screenshotted and posted in the other local LA bar groups. Careful when posting, there's been a few stories of the staff finding you on social media and harassing as well. Let's stay vigilant and look out for one another!! read more

My friends and I had a very uncomfortable experience here. The food was okay, the service was slow, but the place is dirty and seedy AF. I saw all the other posts and had to share our experience as well, because it was intensely awkward. I read the recent POSITIVE review and even she mentioned the creepy guys and the incompetence of the staff. "One karaoke night there was a gentleman making me very uncomfortable - wouldn't leave me alone, wouldn't stop trying to talk to me - I finally got away and spoke to the owner and staff. They'd already had complaints so they asked him to go" It's nice to know that after SEVERAL women complained they FINALLY decided to kick him out. While I'm happy they kicked him out for her, there were many other women, like me, that complained and were told "Relax, it's fine, everyone's having a good time here". PLEASE be careful out there, we have to look out for one another, because no one here will. It's not worth it. read more

I usually don't write reviews, but this place was shockingly bad. The food was what you would expect based on the vibe (if you're expecting top level food here, that's your problem), but the service was so so SO bad. It took forever to get a drink, even though the place was mostly empty. Everything in there was sticky, the floor, the bar, the seats, EVERYTHING. When I finally got the bartender to look up from the phone they came over with "What do you want". I asked if there were any specials, and I was told that this isn't an Applebee's, which I could tell because that would be a definite upgrade. Anyway, we ordered our food, sat there with empty drinks in front of us, forever waiting for the food. No one checked back, then when the check was dropped off gratuity was ALREADY ADDED. Not that we would've stiffed them, but, I can see now why they don't care if you're enjoying yourself or not. Do yourself a favor, go to Applebee's. read more

Roguelike Tavern is a solid spot with a casual and laid-back vibe. It can get pretty packed, especially on Friday nights, but on my second visit, it was much quieter, which made for a more enjoyable experience. The service here is consistently good--staff are friendly and make you feel welcome. The first time I came, I tried their lemon drop, and I couldn't stop thinking about it--so good! Food-wise, the menu is limited, but what they offer is tasty. The sliders are a highlight, and if you're indecisive, the Triforce sampler is a great way to try a bit of everything. Their waffle fries are crispy and flavorful, especially when paired with the delicious sriracha aioli. Prices for drinks are average, but the bar food leans a bit pricey for the portion sizes. Still, it's not unreasonable and worth it for the quality. Overall, it's a fun spot to grab drinks and a bite! read more

My friends and I came here a little while ago, we had the same dismal experience everyone is talking about. Staff was unfriendly and surprisingly incompetent. We had to explain our cocktails to the bartender (cosmo, Manhattan, etc..) which isn't too terrible, but based on the overpriced "specialty drinks" list we figured they would know the basics. We watched him make the lemon drop with rum. After he dropped it off I asked "Did you make that with rum", he snapped at me with "That's how you make it!", which of course it isn't. I googled the recipe and showed him and he got very agitated and rude. "Look that's how it's made, do you want the drink or not, because if you're going to sit here and argue with me you can all leave." So we finished our pricey and poorly made drinks and left. Horrible, just, horrible! We came in for karaoke (which started 45 minutes late). Ordered our drinks, which were made wrong, and then ordered a couple orders of wings (6 for $15) They were terrible! The first one was under cooked, when we pointed it out the bartender said "they look fine" and did NOTHING. So we just let them sit there. Karaoke finally started, when we went to sign up, they said the list was essentially already full and it would be probably an hour wait, even though the bar was mostly empty. When we asked about that we were told that some people signed up in advance that aren't here yet (WHAT?!) Horrible experience, horrible staff, terrible food - completely understand everything I'm seeing about this place. Will not be back obviously. read more

Saw the danger bar post. We had a similar experience for my birthday. A group of us came in for karaoke, we were quickly bombarded with "bro guys" that kept trying to sit at our table. We tried to complain, but management did not care, said they're customers too and they can sit wherever they like. There were PLENTY of other tables available, it wasn't very busy at all. Also, they kept trying to bring us shots, when we refused to take them, the shots just sat on the table. None of the guys would touch them (red flag). We were so uncomfortable we left before any of our songs even came up. read more

This place is the cause of one of the most squeamish situations I've ever had to deal with. I can't believe this happened, a few of us went there for drinks, which were fine, but the next morning I got the creepiest text message from one of the guys at the bar, the bartender apparently GAVE MY NUMBER TO A STRANGER! He overheard me giving it to someone in our group, and gave it to his friend at the bar! I called to complain, but was told that's not possible and was hung up on. This spot is super close to where I live, and I really wish I liked it more. Let's be honest -- it's a dive bar, and that's totally fine if you're not expecting tuna tartare or anything fancy. The food is solid if you're craving a classic burger, and the drinks are definitely well-poured. That said, given its location, I can't help but feel like it has the potential to be a little more elevated. It doesn't need to lose its character, but with a few tweaks, it could be so much better. Unbelievable! We came in and ordered drinks, there was a fruit fly in my Margarita. I told the bartender and he PICKED IT OUT WITH HIS FINGERS then walked away!! I felt silly asking, can I please have another drink, he told me there's nothing wrong with that one. HIS FINGERS WERE IN IT!! Said I could buy another drink if I wanted to, I was stunned. We just left the drinks on the bar and left, so disgusting. Guess I should be thankful I didn't try any food. No wonder the place was empty. Horrible. read more

Came in for a quick drink to unwind after work. Place is kinda dirty, but I'm usually a fan of dive bars because the drinks are usually reasonable, not here. When the check was dropped off I got a little sticker shocked. I'm giving 1 star because the bartender asked if there was a problem, I mentioned it's a little more expensive than I thought it would be. He then said "if you can't afford to go out then stay home" and walked away. I won't stay home, but I'll definitely stay away from here. read more

Saw the Burbank Bars post - I agree, no need for this place. We went there once, the bartenders were rude, the place was falling apart, and the food was barely edible (we had the fries and sliders). The service makes you feel awkward and uncomfortable. I'm not sure it's their fault, it just seems like everyone there is so overwhelmed (even though the place wasn't busy at all), you feel bad trying to ask them for anything. We complained but no one cared, it made for a very uncomfortable experience. Without a doubt, the best bar in Burbank. We are here for Trivia nearly every week, and you couldn't ask for a better crowd or staff. When I decided to have an impromptu birthday gathering on a Monday night, they couldn't have been more chill and accommodating about making sure it went smoothly when an 30 extra people piled into the bar.
