What an amazing little cafe! The inside is super clean and it has a cosy little upstairs seating area. The owner was so sweet and welcoming - it felt like we were in her home. I ordered the mexican coffee (aka cafe de olla) and avocado toast, both were delicious! The avocado toast had a really nice presentation. This place was super cute! The paintings , little decorations, gifts/mugs from customers from all around Latin America just all signals that this place is well loved by the owner and the community. The owner is Mexican and she is super friendly and gave me and my kids free coffee and chia to try. The coconut chia sample was actually really delicious! I ordered two sandwiches and two avocado toast to go and they turned out all pretty decent, each with a side salad to go with it which is nice. The only downside is that the order took awhile at close to 4pm when we ordered. First time here so don't know if at usual lunch time it would be faster or not. May I start by saying they have the best avocado toast ever!?!?! They do. And, it is surprisingly economical for what you get. It even comes with a side salad so it isn't even fake healthy! The food here was quite unique, definitely not something my asian palate is accustomed to but I can definitely buy into the food culture. The community definitely did as there were waves of multi ethnic customers that would come in to order a variety of things and leave with a grin. Side note: I also noticed how cohesive this community seemed to be, just casually striking casual conversations and not being afraid of language barriers... how cool! Just me? Dunno xD. The ambiance of this cafe gives me mixed feelings. With 2 floors and dilapidated pictures plastered left and right overlayed with ornaments, it does feel like a scene from an under developed willy wonka set. Regardless I think it really adds to the personality and the charm of the place. However, I think what stole the show for me was definitely the service. Being new to the area, I asked what coffee they would recommend, and without hesitation the front desk lady poured me a cup of coffee and told me to try it with a smile. It was sufficient for my amateur coffee palate, so I ordered that and some bread. They were very patient with me, answering all my questions and tending to my requests to the best of their ability. On top of that during my studying they gave me a dessert that was so delicious! Dunno what it is called but I recommend that one 100% it is the dessert in the cup xD forgive me for being uncultured. First off, ROMO'S Cafe is a lovely spot in east oakland with pretty good list of options consisting of: sandwiches, salads, breakfast items, drinks and light bites. Came in kraving a sandwich so ordered the turkey, which came with a side salad, and limonada (pic below). It was a perfect meal for the day! The sandwich was soft and perfectly toasted, the salad had their signature homemade dressing on it which was light and flavorful and the limonada was sweetened to perfection. Not only was the meal amazing the service was equally great! The lovely ladies there treated me like family and we talked about the history of the spot as well as how some of the items are made (majority of the menu is homemade!!). I got El Desperdicio, their roasted pork and bacon sandwich- everything about it is delicious- the meat, the bread, the pesto and aioli, the pickled onions- chef's kiss! This was such an amazing gem! Their sandwiches was one of the most delicious sandwich I had in a while. I had a chipotle sandwich & I knew it was popular but for good reason! I would come here for breakfast and lunch. The actual ambiance is genuine to the owners roots. There is much traditional art and even piñatas. The owners are so humble and kind. This is a sweet little hole in the wall! If you drive too fast you'll miss it and that would be a damn shame! Behind the counter is the proud and so very kind owner (she reminded me of my Abuelita ). She makes much of the food with her own labor and it is yummy! The cafe is filled with trinkets and beautiful art reflective of South American culture. It has a tiny upstairs which is the perfect spot to have a latte or one of the treats of the day while reading a book or studying! Went here on a whim and got a nice little brunch. Good amount of options for vegans, vegetarians and omni eaters. There is ample street parking on the neighborhood cross streets. We had the Avocado toast- nice flavor and seasoning, nice complementary side salad to offset the bread. veggie sando- roasted veggies on baguette were fresh and scrumptious. chicken chipotle sando- toasty bread with nicely seasoned chicken and good chipotle sauce. An unassuming jewel, that's what this Cafe is. The name and the ratings gave me a different image of the place. The location could have easily been a corner store in generations of the pass (I am not from this area), but once you step in, you are transported to where you hoped you'd be! The smells are vibrant, and you know your going to eat something satisfying. I came on a quest for avocado toast. I hate untrusted toast, but Roma Cafe' did not disappoint. Not only is the bread toasted, the avocado is sprinkled with herbs and spices, muahfinally! A toast worth eating that I didn't have to make myself. I personally think the serving is fair, a side dish portion, not huge and no a Mal by itself but fair for the price. I would pay more for a larger portion, of course I happened to be famished this morning ‍. So to support what I assume to be a minority owned business I ordered another. Yes, I'm a greedy gobble this morning but I don't feel weighted down, just ready to take on the day. Wow, I didn't mention the Mexican coffee, with almond milk for me. I bit sweet for my taste but delicious still. It is reminiscent of Chai latte, at half the cost. I live a five minute walk away which is supremely dangerous for my economic situation since I come here twice a week and I apologize to no one. Oakland is chock full of some of the most impressive cafes; they feature the best beans and tastiest viddles and boast fine and post modern ambiences. I love the variety and stiff competition that results in an abundance of cafe culture. Let me assure you, though, that Romo's Cafe broke the damn mold and has won the first medal prize as a result of their delicious coffee, incredible food, and friendly service. The vanilla latte is perfection; not cloyingly sweet and a jitter less jolt that is such a testament to the quality of the coffee. The Vietnamese coffee is equally delightful, though more sweet and a complete treat. The food is incredible, simple, super fresh ingredients that are healthy and hearty. The sandwiches are phenomenal; whether breakfast (you choose your carbventure of either bagel, wheat, white, or baguette. The world is your croissant) or delightful turkey with chipotle aioli and gorgeous greens. I think my favorite thing is their chia parfait. Chia soaked in coconut milk, layered with yogurt, beautiful berries and the most crunchy, nutty, coconutty granola and honey. Found this cafe near Concordia Park and decided to pick up some breakfast and drinks. Ordered several lox bagels and an egg sandwich with bacon. Let me just say, everything was delicious and on point! The lox bagels were tasty and had nice pieces of fresh smoked salmon and veggies. The bagels were fresh and toasted to perfection. I tried the Cafe De Olla and it was flavorful, and perfectly sweetened with delicate notes of cinnamon. Service was wonderful and very attentive. They even provided each of us samples of the yummy chia pudding with fresh fruit, honey, and granola. If you're in the area definitely hit this spot up.
