This used to be my favorite place in town. I originally gave it a 5-star review. Unfortunately it has gone all the way downhill. The new menu is not good. The restaurant has become aggressively vegetarian unfriendly (there are non-veg ingredients in certain dishes that you wouldn't expect, so ask about everything) and now they have stopped selling their excellent salad dressings as well. The waitstaff as always are excellent. Too bad about the rest though. No real point in going back. read more

Holy moly. What have I been eating all my life? I had the fried chicken here and it was amazing -- turned my life around. There will be no other fried chicken that comes close to this delicious masterpiece. Roost Chicken Fried Chicken-topped w/sausage gravy, w/home fries and greens... I thought the home fries would be just regular tasting but the sausage gravy moved around like a salsa dancer in my mouth. I wish that I could have even more sausage gravy but it definitely was enough for the portion!!! DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I NEED TO DRINK IT. The "greens" was also so fresh and I haven't had much salad that had a crunch to it. If all salads were like this I think I would eat more. The waitress we had was also very friendly and even offered to take our party's picture, knowing that we were "tourists" hah! The big camera probably didn't fool them. She was giving us tips from the locals on what to see and where to go. Beautiful lady with a beautiful soul! The Roost is a cute place to stop by for breakfast. The service is really warm, attentive. We had stopped by while staying in Accord. But sadly, the food isn't as good as we'd hoped. Hubby had: Two eggs any style, with home fries, greens. This was standard. People rave about the home fries here but I thought they were just ok. There weren't a lot of them though- they did good portion control here. I had the fried chicken with salad greens - the greens were good. Lots of greens. The home fries were the same the above, was ok. The chicken itself was moist, juicy, and well fried but not well seasoned. I otherwise would have tried the popular avocado skillet. The Stumptown coffee was really good though. Prices were $10-15. read more

We've been coming here now at least once a month (on average) for the past couple years or so, (mostly for breakfast/lunch) and we have always had a great meal and great service. Very cute place! This is a smaller establishment than it looks on the web, but still very clean and welcoming. Breakfast seems to be their thing, so we went for brunch. We had the quiche of the day, the zucchini hash, and chicken & waffle. The quiche was awesome - one of the best I've ever had. Order the quiche! The zucchini hash was so fresh and light - a perfect dish for anyone that eats clean or likes to keep it on the lighter side. The only downside is I believe most people would still be hungry if just ordering this dish, so be advised. Finally, the chicken and waffle was great! Had a small issue with it at first but the servers took care of it immediately and we were able to enjoy every bite of all of our food! Thank you so much. We chose to eat here when our dinner plans changed. It was such a great find. The place is small and modest, but inviting and bright. Its a breakfast/lunch nook type place that happens to stay open for dinner- thats the vibe. And the specials on the board were very exciting. My sister got the little lamb chops, my other sister and friend each got the rib eye dinner, and I did the surf and turf special- filet mignon and scallops served with fries and steamed broccoli. All the meals had similar sides and they complimented the mains well. Our meals were delicious. I have no complaints about my food. The portion was appropriate, the filet was cooked perfectly and the scallops were sweet and tender and nicely seared. And all for $26!! And it was as good as an expensive steakhouse no joke. I take my meat and seafood seriously. I knew I was taking a risk and it paid off. For dessert we split the pear crisp with gelato and the bread pudding. Both were very good and perfect finish to our filling and savory meals. Our waitress was very attentive and pleasant. Follow-up forkfuls of the mushroom hash (onions, potatoes, cremini mushrooms, spinach topped with two over medium eggs and served with side greens) were no less impressive. Outstanding fare here. Stopped in here on the recommendation of my nephew when my favorite lical place was too packed. Eight of us were seated quickly by a very nice hostess / manager and it was easy to see why this is a local favorite...very nice place inside, though small, and lots of outside seating. Menu isn't too large, which I like - I'd rather see you do a small menu very well than half-assing a huge menu...and they offer both breakfast and lunch- and we took advantage of the options. We ordered chicken and waffles, chocolate chip pancakes, a Corned Beef melt, grilled salmon sandwiches, biscuits and sausage gravy, avocado egg skillet and an egg sandwich. Let's see if this tells you how we liked the food, the only thing left on a plate was half the egg sandwich...and that was taken to go o ky because my nephew's girlfriend wasn't super hungry. First time my son had chicken and waffles and he HAMMERED them - tried the chicken and it was better than the chicken i had in a soul food restaurant last week (GREAT JOB!!). My corned beef melt was served with a side salad and also came with a horseradish and apple mayo (instead of a traditional russian) and it was a tasty switch. Corned beef was excellent. Seriously, it all looked and tasted great! Oooh, I almost forgot...the chicken corn chowder - was amazing! The only issues were because they were so busy i think (there was a lot going on locally so they probably just didn't expect the huge turnout. The lunch I really wanted wad their burger, but they had run out of their burgers and also had no carmalized onions (which I didn't understand since they must have a grill and they had raw onions...they could have made more. Service was a little slow (again, they were oacked so I'm not gonna kill thrm on it as my nephew says it's not like that normally), but by the time I got my meal everyone else was half done with theirs... A nice pisitive for a place like this is that they have a liquor license so they serve beer and wine...which was a nice add-on for a hot day. Overall if I could give half stars I'd probably say 3.5, but the food and ambiance and our waitress were all way too good to give 3...so 4 it is. The Roost, while sporting a nice overall Yelp rating, lived up to the hype. Assuming they have hype in the Hudson Valley. The staff here was extremely friendly from the beginning. Getting a high chair for our young baby, chatting with us and getting ice cold water and hot coffee (Stumptsown, which if you haven't had it, is stellar coffee). The menu here is small, but you can tell each dish was made with care. Veggie burgers are often throw aways and taste like they defrosted a patty in back. Not here. The chickpea burger was great as were the thin fries and brioche bun. The pork sandwich was also great with the zucchini pickles. We also ordered a waffle for the baby, but who am I kidding, I just wanted it for myself (and she doesn't eat much). It too was really good. They had some nice specials, two beers on tap and a ton of housemade dessert. We have a personal strawberry pie on the counter for later. I recently dined at the Roost in Stone Ridge, NY. The Roost is family owned and serves as a hub of local fellowship and gossip. The food is simple yet impeccable - locally sourced when possible, fresh, and creative yet not over-the-top. My last visit to the Roost reminded me of why I love it. The servers are all personable and humorous but remain professional and attentive. My water and coffee came out promptly and my questions about the menu were answered with enthusiasm. I ordered the special - a fried chicken wrap with french fries. It came out piping hot (just the way I like it), with the modifications I asked for perfectly executed. Both the service and the food went above and beyond my expectations. I greatly enjoy the Roost and its employees. I will be back very soon. p.s. They serve fantastic Stumptown coffee! We stopped in for lunch while visiting our daughters and can't wait to go back. Everything was delicious and very generous portions. I had the BLAT and tried very hard to not eat the bread (low/no carb diet) but I couldn't resist! The best sourdough I've had since San Francisco. I ordered a side salad with the Green Goddess dressing and it was sheer perfection. The girls ordered the Avocado Skillet and Grilled Cheese and loved every bite. So happy to finally get to eat at The Roost. The place is so comfortable and friendly. I really liked the light blue walls, the big blackboard and the beautiful artwork hanging throughout the restaurant. The service was efficient and the food was excellent. Both meals were delicious and tasted very fresh. I'm the local beers on tap we're great too- hey had a delicious porter that we really enjoyed. Also, the service was wonderful. We had our 1.5 year old with us, and the staff couldn't have been any kinder. They were attentive to us and nice to the baby. They were very accommodating overall.
