We were visiting the area and tried this place for brunch. It was delicious! I had the stuffed French toast (blueberry + cream cheese) and my wife had the avocado skillet. Both meals were delicious and tasted very fresh. I'm the local beers on tap we're great too- hey had a delicious porter that we really enjoyed. Also, the service was wonderful. We had our 1.5 year old with us, and the staff couldn't have been any kinder. They were attentive to us and nice to the baby. They were very accommodating overall. The ambience was also cool and relaxed. The other guests were very friendly and were interacting with the baby. Overall, a great experience! read more

Strange experience today. Sat down about 2:30 pm, breakfast items stop at 3:00. Not hungry, I just wanted a coffee but felt I ought to order food so I asked for the 2 eggs on a brioche roll. By 3:20 it hadn't arrived so I asked the server if I'd missed the 3pm deadline. She checked and said it's ready, brought it out, and said no charge for coffee. I said I'm fine paying for coffee. Bill was $3.25. (Just the price of the sandwich). Went to pay cash, server not allowed to open register, lead server took my $10, I said take $6.00. She ignored my request and returned a $5, a $1, and 51 cents. That left me a choice of leaving $1.51 or $5 as a tip or insisting they take $6 and return me $4. So I left the $5. Not a big deal but I have no idea why the lead server ignored my request. My last visit was Feb 24, the day of the Ukraine invasion. Same lead server, just me and her. I said that maybe the restaurant was empty because everyone was watching what was happening in Ukraine. Her comment: "There's nothing we can do about it". It seemed somewhat uncaring and that's why I've stayed away for 4 months, having been a pretty regular visitor previously . Yes, there has been a lot we've been able to do about it. And quicker food delivery would be good and I'd like my change request to be listened to. read more

Stopped in for breakfast while on a fishing trip midweek. Friendly staff, good service and well priced items. My friend really enjoyed his breakfast (sweet potato hash, grounded sausage and over easy eggs). I had the fried chicken and waffles. I wasn't too thrilled not because it didn't taste good but because I found the chicken to be a little too oily and not all of t was white meat (which is pretty much all I eat). Came here for brunch last Sunday. We were lucky enough to get seated right before a rush. I believe there was only one server inside and I don't know how but she managed to give excellent service, making sure we had everything we needed while running around. My GF was in the mood for red meat, and an adventure. Having recently moved to the area, we had heard from a longtime local that the Roost had the best burgers. So off we went. I liked that it was only three miles from our house. The exterior looked like a mid to upper priced restaurant. The inside was surprising to me. The decor was more of a breakfast, early lunch restaurant. Nonetheless, everything was clean, tidy and well spaced. We both ordered burger with fries. I like my burgers as rare as possible. Most places are reticent to accommodate that request. But my burger arrived perfectly rare. The meat was tasty. I made the mistake of adding Gorgonzola cheese. It ended up being too pungent to appreciate the burger. Next time, no cheese. The fries were just the way I like them- brown (not tan) and nearly burnt. The service was perfect- very timely, not overbearing, just perfect. My GF and I thought it was a perfect meal and a wonderful evening at the Roost. We intend on returning often. read more

Consistently excellent, reliable. I'm a big fan of the fried chicken and waffles, pastrami sandwich, and my wife loves the salmon. The burger is the only thing I'd say is a slight letdown as it's definitely a patty. But they're great otherwise. Brunch, lunch, dinner all good! read more

Well, I'm taking it All back. Last time there was treated like I had stepped in a cowpie. The food wasn't cooked right. The potatoes were hard. I said something to the person who looked down her nose at me. She told me, that they didn't charge me for my ice tea. That should make up for it. Well, I won't return there again. read more

My fiance and I went there for lunch when they first opened and they hadn't found their stride yet. However, we went back last weekend for a late breakfast and really enjoyed ourselves. I ordered the biscuits and gravy/he ordered the chicken and waffles. My biscuits were super tender, perfectly flaky and delicious. The sausage gravy had a bit of spice, the gravy itself was creamy and flavorful - honestly, it was super awesome. The presentation of the chicken and waffles was lackluster, but the flavor was quite good. Service was a 7 out of 10. Coffee was acrid; I think they should invest in a better coffee system. They certainly invested in a great Boylan's soda machine and that is truly delightful. I wish the place had a bit more character. It feels very new and the walls lack "dinery" art. The kitchen looks immaculate from the outside looking in, so that is always a huge bonus for me. Good job guys. Keep it going. We'll definitely be back! read more

This restaurant is a hidden gem in the Catskills. Everything on the menu is delicious, but my friends and I especially recommend the mac and cheese and the chicken and waffle. All of the food is homemade and much of it is locally sourced and you can really tell in the taste of the food! Even my picky boyfriend loves this place. The menu and especially the prices look very attractive. We had breakfast here. The omelet tasted good, but the fries swam in oil. My wife's dish was also very oily. I woke up this morning thinking about how awesome dinner at The Roost was last night. I'm nervous sometimes about posting reviews about restaurants that I like for fear that they'll explode and lose that certain je ne sais quoi. Dinner was so good last night I don't care. The Roost is small, simple, humble and excellent. Our favorite local restaurant has been losing ground in our eyes and palates of late and The Roost is making a case for top pick. I had short ribs, fingerling potatoes and sauted veggies. Best short ribs I've ever had. Great cut of meat, no knife needed at any point, only the slightest bit of fat left over. Sauted veggies can sometimes be a gamble. Soggy and lifeless is the unfortunate standard one can come to expect from even a great restaurant. My veggies last night were clearly fresh and clearly made to order. The best way I can describe The Roost's fare is "elevated home cooking". The menu is basic, but in the best way possible. There is no need to attempt to impress with this or that artisanal pickle, small batch oatmilk or cheese dust when the fundamentals of your ingredients, cooking and service are rock solid. We frequent this place often but now going elsewhere. This morning they forgot our order (we were sitting there nearly an hour watching everyone else's food arrive). When it did arrive the food was cold and the waiter was unapologetic. He brought my wife a new set of eggs but no fries. At that point she lost her appetite. They never brought me water when I asked several times. He did inform me that they ran out of avocado. I think they were not able to deal with the full restaurant and the kitchen got backed up. In the end they did the right thing and comped our order but we have noticed a degradation in service and quality the last few times we went. Many of the cheery staff that used to be there are no longer either. Time to try another place! read more

I've come here for different meals on different days, and there's not one thing that's a miss. All of the food is fresh, cooked well, and comes out in a timely matter. It gets very crowded for brunch on weekends, so I'd recommend coming early, but on weekdays you should be fine. My favorite right now is the breakfast salad. read more

i have been to this restaurant before, probably about 20 yrs ago under different management. It was a breakfast place before college. Tonite we drove by and stopped! What a pleasant surprise! We had the crab cakes for an appetizer. They were fresh and moist and covered with some kind of breadcrumbs that were crunchy. Needless to say our food was the best! My husband had the lamb burger and couldn't put it down until it was devoured. Our server was Tom and he couldn't have been more helpful. I would consider this restaurant again and again! We stopped in for breakfast one morning, this would be our 5th time here. I ordered the "two eggs w/ corned beef hash". It didn't take long for my meal to come out, smelling all kinds of delicious. Then I noticed the corned beef hash, it was different than the cat food looking dish with potato cubes I've been served at other places. It was, to my surprise, actual small strips of corned beef with smaller strips of potatoes in it. Our server noticed my confusion and mentioned to me that they make it on premises and it's probably not like the hash I've had elsewhere (as I mentioned, she was right). I tried it. It was absolute breakfast dynamite. It also came with a green salad which my wife assures is good for me and was good tasting as well. Also, the coffee....the coffee....was really, really good. It's probably one of the better cups of coffee I've had in a long time while dining out. The service was great. Our server knew the right times to come over to see if we needed something and was very friendly. The pricing is a bit higher than I was used to at first, not too bad though and in combination with the food quality actually works out to be quite reasonable. We're definitely going back. read more

Went in for breakfast on a Saturday morning... loved it so much we came back for more on Sunday! Fast, SUPER friendly service. The place was full but not overly crowded on Saturday morning. I dined on the avocado skillet while my husband tried out the cornbeef hash. The skillet was fantastic. Tiny shredded crispy potatoes with onions and spinach under a fried egg and avocado. YUM. The husband had nothing but rave reviews on the homemade hash. There were too many good things left unordered on the menu, so we decided to come back for Sunday brunch! Bonus points: the patio was open! This time the husband couldn't refuse the fried chicken and pancakes (his take on chicken and waffles) and I tried the grilled chicken panini from the lunch menu.
