Found this place for lunch while passing through on a Friday, and we were very impressed. Everything was delicious and had a special touch. The fries with the steak frites had a delicious gremolata.The open face corned beef hash sandwich had an indescribable horseradish sauce that was just the right touch. Green goddess dressing. What can I say about this place, other than outstanding. I went there with my girlfriend on a her friend's recommendation. Since I'm not too familiar with the area. It seemed a bit out of the way, but once you see the red building you know you'll be in good hands with your hunger. It was gray/sunny day so we decided to sit outside. Which was great!! The place is overall small but that makes it even more homely, and trust me that's as good thing. We sit down and the waitress tells us the specials. We opted for the brunch venturing since we were there Sunday at 12pm. I ordered the chicken and waffle set up with a side order of breakfast potatoes. And my girlfriend had a side of corn beef hash with a pecan waffle. She also got coffee. I got water cause I was thirsty. We got our food in a very timely manner around 15 minutes, which is really fast for brunch. The chicken was moist (sorry I know a lot people don't like that word) and tender. The waffle was crispy but nice and soft inside. And get this you get real maple syrup!! That's right you don't have to ask for the amber elixir it comes with the delicious waffle. My cohorts corned beef was so good I wanted to ask for bread so I can make a sandwich out of it right there and than. Her waffle was very good too, but I don't like pecans so to each his own. She stated that the coffee is very good too!!all this came to $30 so it wasn't too much for "technically" three meals. I've been to Roost twice now and neither time disappointed. The pancakes are light and fluffy (although a bit on the pricey side at $6 for one large plain) the salads plentiful and the egg dishes varying and tasty. The coffee is very good and the service has always been with a smile. The lines can get long and with good reason. I love this place. The service is always attentive and friendly. The food is great and reasonably priced. I live nearby and frequent The Roost at least two times a month and have never been disappointed. My one request is that at dinner time, the lights in the dining room be dimmed quite a bit. Came to visit a friend in High Falls after hiking Millbrook Mountain, and she suggested we come here for lunch. The service was on point and friendly. I rarely see house made corned beef hash, so I always order it when I see it. It was excellent, a big pile with a lot of big juicy chunks of the meat. My friend had the fried chicken that everyone raves about, and I have to agree; the shell is so crispy/crunchy that it doesn't get soggy in the gravy, and they don't put too much gravy on it that it swims -- delicious. My wife had a grilled chicken wrap, which was fine, but ordinary, but she knew that she was ordering a boring dish. I looked around and saw others people eating really good looking sandwiches/burgers. Will definitely go back. read more

I just took my mom for lunch at the Roost. We were so impressed! We were incredibly satisfied with the quality of the food, the presentation and service. The combination of ingredients was healthy, flavorful and delicious. The portions were very generous and price extremely reasonable -- scrumptious. Mom ordered the feta, bacon, spinach, tomato omelette that came with a side salad and skin on fries. The Oreo crusted coconut cream pie was phenomenal. We LOVE the Roost! Every time we come to the Hudson Valley, we stop here at least once, sometimes every day of our trip! I love the avocado skillet and my boyfriend loves the enchiladas. After a long weekend of relatively uninspiring, pretentiously hip, homogeneously 'eccentric' bistro restaurants, the Roost was a welcome surprise. They are nothing if not unique and their creativity is sincerely refreshing. Their housemade sodas were divine - seriously, try the espresso cinnamon. Misses the mark! We went to The Roost for the second time recently. The first time was not great- the food was lacking and the décor just felt cold and unwelcoming. We chalked this up to the establishment being new and felt it would be fair to give it a second shot. I'm sorry we did. Our second experience was no better than the first. Worse, actually. At least on our first visit the service was friendly and helpful. This visit, we were made to feel as if we were bothering our server. Our food arrived and was barely warm, undercooked and lacking flavor. When we brought this to the attention of our server we were met with dirty looks from the kitchen and a few moments later received meals that seemed to have been microwaved. We won't give it a third chance. It's a shame- Stone Ridge could really use a great little place to eat. read more

The Roost was a fantastic find. From the decor and the staff, to the unique menu options - everything was great. What we enjoyed, other than the food itself, was that nothing appeared to be randomly decided, with even the humble bagel and cream cheese with lachs being the result of specifically chosen high-end locally produced bagels, and specialty kosher smoked salmon. We were lucky enough to enjoy two meals at the restaurant (breakfast and lunch). I ate the aforementioned bagel and smoked salmon (which came with a bed of greens and a homemade raspberry vinaigrette dressing), and the special of the day for lunch - shepherds pie made with short-rib meat. My wife enjoyed the stuffed french toast (breakfast), and the avocado skillet for lunch. My wife and I will be trying other menu items on our next trip to the area - with the micro-brews on tap being at the top of the list. read more

Had lunch here with a friend. The service was slow... It was only lunch and the place was NOT all that busy. I had to ask if the soup was supposed to be hot or cold. I am so impressed with this place! We went here for a late breakfast today, it was so tasty. My boyfriend got the pancakes with fruit and local maple syrup ( he loved it ) and I ordered the quiche which came with greens and home fries. I'm not exaggerating when I say, they WERE the best home fries I've ever had, they were crispy and the flavor was incredible! We were sitting at the bar, so all of the food went by us, and every single dish looked delicious! I recommend everybody in the area to check this place out. It was intensely crowded when we were there, which is expected for a new place on a Sunday morning. But the waiters/waitresses kept their cool, and were very friendly. The portions are tiny , however they seem to be satisfactory for my two year old ! My family has been going to this restaurant since it opened, recently we have been disappointed by the change in menu and the cleanliness of the facilities during our last two visits. We will not go back. Decor was not trendy - it was non-existent, though as someone pointed out, they do have a charming Boylan's soda fountain, which was the best part of the place. Our eggs were overdone, the salad careless, the toast came in individual THIN slices. Sourdough should never be sliced thin, and toast should never come individually. The home fries (which are not home fries, but deep fried french fries, as far as we could tell) were so crispy they almost tore the roof of your mouth, but fortunately, there were very few of them... The corn muffins they served first were tasty, but we had to ask for butter. Prices, not remotely good for a place on a highway with no ambience. Very disappointed, as the location is convenient and would have been a great place to take our weekend friends. read more

We've driven past Roost hundreds of times on Rt. 209 and finally decided to stop in for a Saturday breakfast. When you walk in you immediately see a very welcoming seating area with lots of windows. Unfortunately, that's the last compliment I can bestow on this restaurant. We were told there was no children's menu from which to order for our 4-year old. A little odd, but OK. Since the menu has an adult flair, it didn't off up any basic fare acceptable to picky little people. Luckily we have a kid who didn't mind eating just the small, complimentary muffin bites they leave on all the tables when you arrive. Not exactly the nourishing meal her parents were aiming for when we got into the car to come to The Roost. As for the parents' meals selection, both of our #1 choices were sold out by 10 am, so we both ordered some eggs. Mine was supposed to be a jalapeño egg dish, but when it arrived, there were no jalapeños at all. When I inquired with the waiter, he apologized and brought it back to the kitchen. Almost 15 minutes later the jalapeño eggs 2.0 arrived at the table...again with no jalapeños! The waiter immediately went to the kitchen and came back with a small side cup of jalapeños taken from a jar. They seemed satisfied that this make-shift culinary fix was acceptable. To us, it showed their lack of attention to basic details as well as a lack of concern for paying customers. We didn't make a fuss and finished our rather lackluster breakfast feeling very disappointed with our first, and last, experience at The Roost. I guess we'll continue driving past this restaurant, and we encourage others to do the same. read more
