The best was the egg and pot quiche with crème on top. Mini egg roll, pasta salad with peas and celery. Main course included egg salad sandwiches on crustless wheat bread, cucumber tea sandwiches on crustless white bread, and chicken salad wraps. All very delectable. So many desserts including fresh fruit, cookies, pastries, cupcakes, and hazelnut coffee custard. The food was good, but unfortunately, the overall experience has really changed. I've been coming here with friends and family for several years, but this most recent visit left me feeling like the focus has shifted from creating a welcoming experience to simply getting customers in and out. I completely understand that there is a 1.5-hour time limit for each session, and I respect the need to manage reservations and prepare for the next seating. However, when we were the only group in the entire restaurant, it was difficult to understand why there couldn't have been a little flexibility. We were a party of three, and the next sessions weren't until 3:00 p.m. With no other customers waiting and only one table of three to clear and prepare, it seemed unnecessary to make us feel rushed. The experience became very much, "Is this lady finished? Can I clear this? Your time is up," rather than allowing us to simply enjoy our meal and conversation. I understand there are policies, but there should also be some consideration for the circumstances and the customer experience. After years of coming here, I left feeling more like a number than a valued customer. The tea is also consistently good. Unfortunately, the service and overall vibe felt really different today. The service has always felt a little rushed, but today it was noticeably more so. The place was completely empty literally, we were the only people there yet it felt like they were in a hurry to take our plates and clear the table so they could start cleaning for the "next" guests. Everyone was polite and nice, but it almost felt too nice in a way that came across as a little forced. It just didn't feel genuine or welcoming, and we definitely felt like they wanted us to leave. We paid and stood outside for a little while afterward, and literally no one came in after us. So the rushing felt even more unnecessary. I'm glad we gave this place a few tries, and I still think the tea is good, but after today, we won't be coming back. We did the Royal Dream, traditional tea party setup and absolutely loved the sandwiches, savory bites and sweets. Unlimited tea with 2 servings at a time. All the teas we got we really liked! This has been sitting in my drafts for awhile. My husband brought me on a cute day date to The RoyalTEA Garden while my son was at gymnastics. We came during their holiday special time so we were treated with items that I believe aren't on the typical menu. This was our first time visiting which I've been asking my husband to do for awhile. We were seated next to the door which I wasn't too much of a fan of because when it opened I could feel the breeze come in. Luckily it only happened a few times in the beginning. The inside has so many cute items placed around from tea pots to cups to small trinkets you can purchase. We tried about four different teas during our visit, two hot and two cold. We had Pretty Pink Princess, crème brûlée, tropical and I think pear. I can't remember the last one exactly. I enjoyed the crème brûlée warm the best topped with a little sugar cube and a splash of cream. It's cute that each table gets different tea pots and cups. Even on our table both were different too. I enjoyed the lemon curd, strawberry preserves and whipped cream mixed together with my biscuit as the starter. The tower included from bottom to top Cucumber sandwich, egg sandwich and chicken sandwich Meatball with mash and a cranberry topping, shrimp and steak, onion cheese pastry Chocolate macaron, cherry cupcake, chocolate mousse, fruit tartlet and fresh fruit I may have mixed up a few items because there was so much to eat and I didn't have a menu to take a photo of. I enjoyed each layer of food offerings we had but my favorites were the simple cucumber sandwich and the chocolate mousse. My friend and I wanted to do a girls day! We always wanted to do a tea time! I have always had high English tea with my mom in a traditional sense. Traditional tea is hard to find! But I will tell you although this isn't that it is the best around and I will always come back here. From the time of arriving the owner and her staff were so pleasant and inviting. They provided feed back on teas that we should try! Upon arriving they offered me to wait in the garden which was beautiful... they allowed us in and had out table ready! My boyfriend took me here for a surprise date and I was so excited because I'm super into tea experiences and have always wanted to try an english one so this was my first time. The location is very small so seating space is tightly packed and table placement was very questionable. Aside from that, the decor and ambience is cute at a glance but as you look around more and look at the details, the place isn't very well put together. I was surprised by the amount of space that was taken up by random displays of toys and knick knacks for sale. I'm glad seating began exactly at the time reserved, they do not let anyone inside until then to allow enough time for set up. Once you're seated they bring out biscuits along with the other pairings. I was weirded out at the fact that they literally just use their hands to grab a biscuit from the container and place it on your plate..no tongs???..For the price point I would expect more attention to detail and consideration when it comes to serving the items. Being handed food onto my plate with their hands felt oddly informal and almost crude and out of place for a "afternoon tea" experience. They ask for your tea order (you're limited to 2 teas at a time but can try as many as you'd like throughout the experience). The plating of the tiered stands was cute. As far as the food goes it wasn't good. At all. The sandwiches are your standard cucumber tea sandwiches, egg salad, and a wrap. The middle tier had beef wellington bites, a fried shrimp, and quiche. All of which were very bland. The beef Wellington was ATROCIOUSLY dry and tough. The shrimp was soggy and cold along with the quiche. The desserts were equally unimpressive and questionable in both texture and flavor. The table next to us compared it to costco or store bought prepackaged desserts. There were surprisingly more group parties than I had expected since the location is very small it's difficult to accommodate groups and have ample space where you're comfortable. My friend called ahead to make a reservation for five people and specifically asked about their policy in case fewer people showed up. She was told by the manager that it was fine if not all five attended, as long as we didn't bring more than seven people. She was also told there would be a $50 cancellation fee if no one showed, which we fully understood and agreed to. Because of that conversation, we believed we would not be penalized if a couple people couldn't make it. When we arrived, only three of the five attended. At that point, they attempted to charge us $75 per person for the two no-shows, which completely contradicted what was explained on the phone. This was the exact scenario my friend had asked about to avoid this kind of issue. We spoke with the owner multiple times, and he refused to be flexible, initially insisting on charging $75 per person for all five, even though only three people were there. After a lot of back-and-forth, he "compromised" by charging us for one additional person, which still felt unfair given the prior confirmation. To make matters worse, the tea service was absolutely not worth $75 per person. The waitresses were kind and did their best, but the overall experience and atmosphere was very underwhelming. It looked more like a child's princess party than a refined or British-style tea service you'd expect at that price point. The owner was also rude and dishonest. He claimed the food was already prepared and couldn't be refunded, then told us there was no 3:00 pm service that could utilize the excess food they made. As we were leaving, we literally watched guests arrive for the 3:00 pm seating, which made it clear we were being lied to. I took my daughter for her 21 birthday and we had such a lovely time. The food was fantastic and the tea was lovely. The food was EXCELLENT and everything was made in house. We enjoyed everything from the curry chicken wrap to the flakey pinwheels, as well as the fruit muffin topped with whipped cream and the texture the coffee pana cotta was absolutely perfect. There's some minor areas for improvement but it's clear they have made much effort in making the dining experience fun, engaging, and hassle-free. Word of advice, make reservations! Plan ahead to be early to account for traffic and parking. There are plenty of free parking and a few lots available but they can get filled up quick. Also, it's on the pricier end of the spectrum of dining, especially for kids, but if you account for the experience in addition to the food, it's fair for the upscale downtown of Pleasanton. When you enter, you'll be pleasantly showered with bright colors and vibrant accents throughout the dining room. Walls and shelves inhabited by decorative and collectible toys, dolls, and tea sets almost give you a sensation of walking into a toy store or doll house. Furthermore, upon viewing the seating area, you'll see a variety of colored chairs with different designs and structure which to me, gives it that quaint feel. Time to celebrate your unbirthday! The high tea experience comes with a pot of tea for each table. It's unlimited tea and you get to choose from a variety of flavors. They have their signature classic black teas, fruit teas, decaffeinated teas, and seasonal teas. Ask the tea connoisseurs for recommendations and clarification on the teas as some may be more aligned with the taste and temperature you're looking for. As for the food, each table got a tower of savory and sweet goodies, some warm, some cold, and some perfectly delectable at room temperature. As Goldilocks may put it, "Just right!". Teas - we tried their Winter Wonderland which has a hint of mint and chocolate (think Andes chocolates) which was my personal favorite. Another favorite of the table was the Strawberry Kiwi (decaf) and Ginger Orange. The Pretty Pink Princess was a surprise as it was cold but it did taste a bit like pink lemonade. Scone - buttery scone paired with a triplet of sauces including lemon curd, strawberry jam, and whip cream. I would have preferred a more crumbly scone in the texture of a biscuit as this was more like a cake. Beef Wellington surf and turf - medium cooked beef morsel encased in a puff pastry and topped with a piece of shrimp is probably the best savory dish that has come in a high tea experience for me. The meat was tender, puff pastry was crispy and buttery, and the shrimp added that extra umami and texture to the bite. Meatball with mashed potatoes - the mashed potatoes were made well; creamy and tasty. The meatballs had a bit of a kick to it and tasted unique. They were totally banging and mashed! Tuna salad wrap - this was a refreshing bite! Haven't had tuna salad in awhile, it brought back memories of my childhood days. The wrap was a nice change up to the typical slice of bread and made the bite feel less heavy that it would have been. Definitely had some spring to the bite. Cucumber sandwich - this is your typical high tea meal and it was executed well. Soft white bread and freshly cut cucumbers served with dill in the yogurt kept the meal light and fresh. Egg salad sandwich - hearty bite packed with protein. Well done on the egg salad and paired well with an earthy slice of grain bread Smoked salmon sandwich - decadent bite and the best of the sandwich trio. The saltiness of the fish excited my tastebuds and prepared them for the next bite of food or sip of tea. Cherry pie - refreshing, delicious, and leaves you wanting more. The tartness from the cherry makes you smack your lips and longing for more as you gobble up the shot glass-sized serving. Chocolate mousse cake - mouth watering in its presentation and indulgent after each bite. The creaminess and richness of the chocolate blend certainly tops off your meal with a great finale. Macaron - bite sized variations to ease off that guilty pleasure while still packing a good amount of flavor. Cupcake - I think this was the only disappointing thing out of the whole set up. I'm used to more moist cupcakes and this one was a bit dry. The flavors were fine but not exceptional. I would have expected better execution. Kids get a different set of food that consists of a cheesy bagel, cucumber sandwich, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, chicken nuggets, fruit, gingerbread cookie, and a giant cupcake. Just went there with some ladies for a great lunch get together! The decor inside is very sweet and perfect for a tea room! When we arrived each place setting was ready with a mix of tea cups/saucers. A lovely scone with clotted cream, lemon curd and strawberry jam was a sweet start to our time They have a nice selection of teas to try from their tea selection. Our favorites were the Darjeeling, the Tropical, the Crème Brulee and a Strawberry Kiwi herbal tea. You can change up the types of tea as they offer tea service. We had 7 people and 3 teapots which we could change out. Our beautiful layered food towers were brought and fit onto the table. There were savory and sweet treats that were so beautifully prepared and displayed and tasted delicious. It was nice to have the variations they offered and e ugh for each person to try everything. I was lucky enough to visit the RoyalTEA garden for a bridal shower. Although I forgot my tea royal-wedding style hat! This place is super cute. A few points of importance: Timing: They will only let you in on the dot at your specified time. They will say, "See yah later on the dot at your specified exit time." Tea time is prompt, so be like the British and be punctual, or you will lose out on precious minutes. Teas: SO MANY OPTIONS! It's practically overwhelming. They have some of the most unique tea options I've ever seen. My only wish is that since Pleasanton is HOT, they would brew ice tea also. Hot tea on a hot day means you also need plenty of cold H20. And it's important to be punctual. If you're early for your allotted time, you can wait outside or peruse the stores nearby. Once my friend and I were seated, a warm scone was on the table along with the lemon curd, clotted cream, and jam. It was pretty good. It was flaky and buttery. The tea menu is quite large. The tea is unlimited so you can try different ones. If you do, don't be a newbie like me and try to finish the pot. Looks are deceiving because the pot holds a lot of tea. I was extremely stuffed finishing my pot along with the food so I didn't get to try other teas. The food options had a good balance of sweet and savory. Out of the finger sandwiches, the chicken salad wrap was the favorite. It didn't have too much mayo and the cranberries gave it a touch of sweetness. The egg salad also didn't have too much mayo and showcases the egg. The cucumber one was a nice palate cleanser. The mini savory tarts were good, too. The napoleon was okay, but my friend liked it. Service was prompt and friendly. The service lasts for 3hrs and we didn't feel rushed. It's small inside with a few tables outside, but I think it's best to eat inside. The seating outside is narrow and next to the parking lot. There is a lot of plants but not enough to whisk you away to an English garden. The price was $65 per person and there's a $20 deposit per person that is applied to the bill. Tip is included and I am one of those people that prefers a service charge over tipping. I'm not going to use Yelp as my soapbox so I'll just leave it at that. However, there's a place where you can add more... it may be their POS but if the tip is included, then there shouldn't be a place to add it. The price is a lot and I wonder if it can be lowered if there is an option to not have unlimited tea. But I enjoyed my food and time here. RoyalTea Garden is such a charming and unique experience. The food, tea, pastries and ambiance are the best! Service was outstanding. It's sort of hard to find even with GPS. I told friends that it's next to Baci Restaurant at the corner of Main and Neal, and it helped. Also, you should make reservations. We'll be back! I have enjoyed the fabulous tea service at The RoyalTEA Garden for years. I have not found another tea experience like it. There is a generous abundance of delectable treats, both savory and sweet. I love high tea's and I really had such'a lovely time here! There are soo many options of tea to choose from. Service is super fast and the staff is very friendly. They check in on you but not in a way to bother you since it's a time to really relax and chat up. They offer a variety of tea, different sugars and creamers are also available. But the flavors of tea really pop on their own, you don't need anything in addition. They also leave a scone for you to eat with butter or jam which was super delicious. The food was super delicious. I loved the different kind of sandwiches and bite sized goodies, my favorite was the fried shrimp and a mushroom baked dish. And they give boxes to go for all the yummy stuff, it tasted great warmed up later. It's a very cute spot with such lovely decor. I took my younger sister and two nieces (15 y/o and 12 y/o) for afternoon tea.  Our reservation was at 11AM on a Friday, so we were the only ones dining at this time, and I have many thoughts to share.  In short, 2 stars out of 5.   RoyalTEA is beautiful, and as soon as you walk in, you can't help but say, "Wow!".  It's all pastels with a lot of pink, florals, and a hint of Bridgerton.  RoyalTEA is photo-op / selfie heaven!  We could not stop looking at everything, and every minute or so, one of us would say, "Omg, look there!" or "Did you see that?" or "We need a photo there!".   We were promptly served their tea of the day after being seated.  I remember enjoying this cup of tea as it was a hibiscus-forward flavor.  We were then asked which two flavors of tea we'd like, and oh my tea leaves!  There ARE SO MANY OPTIONS. We immediately got overwhelmed when looking over the tea menu, and we couldn't make a decision, so we went with our server's recommendations which were Peaches & Cream and Persian Royalty.  The pots of tea were served with sugar cubes and cream on the side.  The serving tower arrived, overflowing with tea sandwiches, savory bites, fresh fruit, scones, and several desserts.  The sandwiches were huge!  Based on what was served, it would be a full sandwich and a half per person.  So, don't eat a thing before coming here. Unfortunately, most of the food was not eaten as both of my nieces don't have large appetites.  They tried to eat or take a bite of most of the food but felt full rather quickly.   When I called to make the reservation, I inquired about the Pretty Princess & Prince Charming menu option for $39.00 but was told my nieces didn't meet the age criteria, so I had no other choice but to go with the Royal Dream, which is $65.00 per person. Frankly, it was simply too much food for a 15 and 12 y/o, which lead to a lot of wasted food. I believe there should be a third selection which could be in between the Royal Dream and Pretty Princess & Prince Charming options. RoyalTEA is beautifully decorated, the service is great, it has a very clean bathroom, and it also has a small outdoor area.   Unfortunately, I agree with the other Yelpers in that I feel it's a bit pricey, especially if only 25% of the food is consumed. read more

I wish I could have given this establishment a better review but the service and particularly the person who worked the front of the house was terrible and lacked any sense of hospitality or appreciation of our business and at $83.36 pp is absolutely unacceptable. If there is a time limit then it needs to be said upfront. We were aware of a 1pm seating, but the restaurant was empty and we were told to leave at 12:15. Also and automatic 18% gratuity is added, while not uncommon establishments must notify patrons either on the menu, when seated or when making a reservation. No notification was provided. The quality of the food 5/5 brought out by a woman in the back was very good. The scone, the selection of sweet and savory were above expectations. The room ambiance and set up is charming. Although we noticed tables were not set for every table only the two guests present. The other tables were bare minus the pretty floral centerpiece. 4/5 The service 0/5 We were told to arrive on time for our 11am seating as the reservation could be held for a limited time or deposit of $10 per person would be lost. We were one of two seatings at 11am. The first guests at were welcomed in and the waitress told us to wait outside even though it was empty. Upon being seated, I asked about a description of several of the black teas and was told they all taste the same, then I asked about a signature Royal Tea description and was told it is a black tea with fruits and vegetables. Not a description I could in any way define to decide if I wanted. Given this is a tea house I would have expected some knowledge of the tea types and flavors. A wonderful person in the back brought our tea tray to our table and it was the last interaction as she was busy baking items. My friend and I were rushed and there was no one else in the restaurant. At 11:45 we were told it was a last call if we wanted to try another pot of tea we declined and only eaten 1/3 of the items. At noon a check, to go containers and bags were brought to our table. At 12:15 the waitress said we were done and she had to take our teapot and our food and tea we were still enjoying. I might have felt ok if the establishment was busy with customers but there was no one and we were rushed out at almost $84 pp! I'm floored and can't imagine this is the service the owners expect the customers to receive. The waitress seemed like a competent receptionist as the phone rang non-stop for upcoming reservations. The waitress was quite terrible,her clothing was stained and she displayed a rude demeanor. She made us feel we were doing her a favor by her being there. Our experience was very bad and made the outing not enjoyable. My friend and I will not return and consider yourself warned if you experience similar service. read more

OK, I'll admit it. I'm a guy and I like going to tea with my wife. I've been to a few with her over the years. Over the Memorial Day weekend we decided to try Royal Tea. First of all, we live across the hill in Silicon Valley. Yes they have tea houses closer to our home but we've tried two of them and they both left something to be desired. The main turn off for my wife was the lack of a traditional tiered plate service including sugar cubes. She noticed that Royal Tea DOES provide a traditional tea service which was what she was looking for. Royal Tea is located in downtown Pleasanton. Although it is located in a commercial building it really has an old time charm to it. They have I believe 3 services per day and I can't remember if reservations are required but I would think they are. When you call to make a reservation they charge you $20 which will be applied to your bill. I'm fine with that. They have to prepare all this food based on the expected clientele for each seating and if they have a no show, they have prepared food that would probably to go waste. We signed up for the 11 am seating and they open the doors promptly at 11 am. Once inside you are surrounded by cuteness. Again, I'm a guy and I was impressed. They have frilly this, pink that, pretty this...you get the idea. Did I mention there are a lot of flowers everywhere? They also have a lot of girlie stuff you can buy for your young, or older, girls. OK, I did see the lone toy space laser gun for purchase for boys or very cool girls. Off to the side of the restaurant between it and a parking lot, there appears to be a cute little patio that presumably you can sit at but I'm not sure about that. The staff was friendly and just great. The first thing you will notice is the humongous amount of teas they have! It's unbelievable the amount of tea that they have on tap. They have tea that will make anybody happy. They have every tea flavor from Jasmine, to cookies and cream, to old tires, to smelly socks. OK, just kidding about the last two. I wanted to make sure you were paying attention. But seriously, you will be amazed at the amount of tea flavors they have. We were impressed...and we've had tea at a lot of places, including Kensington Palace! So with the tea you each get a pot and you're allowed to reorder one more during the service. My wife ordered Earl Grey and Peaches and Cream. I ordered Chocolate Chip and Almond. These teas were fantastic. Very full of flavor and they tasted just like they were supposed to. If you've never been to tea you're going to be thinking you'll be leaving hungry. Not so! You will be stuffed! I'm not going to go into too much detail about the food but it was fantastic. It was presented on the traditional multi-tray setup with the sandwiches on the bottom tier. They had so much on there like some mushroom pastries, cucumber sandwiches, egg sandwiches, and deserts galore! It's all good, trust me. And after completely stuffing ourselves, we were brought out 2 warm cookies. We could only eat one because we were so full. We enjoyed the other one the next day at home. Now, this doesn't come cheap but let me tell you, it's well worth it! If you want to make your significant other happy, take him or her there. I cannot say enough good things about this tea house. The menu selection is above anywhere else I've been too. You actually get a lot of food versus other places where they give you only sweets. Also, I love the large variety of teas they have. My favorite was tropical tea and red velvet tea. I was invited here for a baby shower and in all honesty it was above and beyond of my expectations. It's such a cute place for instagram pictures and to catch up with friends. I booked for their spooky high tea for Halloween weekend because they said it was one of the most popular times to visit and that they have a deluxe menu! How fun and exciting! Our table of five chose the following teas: Candy apple, gingerbread, candy cane, chocolate caramel brownie, oolong black dragon. The inside is nicely decorated and has that cozy feeling to it.
