The best baked goods and coffee. Today I had an everything bagel toasted with lettuce, siracha mayo, and turkey and it was delicious! Large variety ranging from muffins, cakes, bagels, and desserts. The staff is friendly and personable. Owners Jenn and Grant are always there to make sure all customers are taken care of and enjoying their meal. They also have a drive thru if you don't want to go inside. Highly recommend this place you won't regret it!!!! read more

INCREDIBLE. Absolutely great staff, coffee, and the bakery -- don't even get me started. The bagels and muffins are good. The service is terrible. They have 6-7 kids working today and they answer the phone to take our order but put us on hold and never come back to take the order. So I drive the 25 minutes there to place the order. When I got there, no line. The phone rings after I have been at the counter waiting to order for 90 seconds and one of the kids answers and starts taking the order. What!? Finally a kid comes over and asks how my day is. I tell him the phone story and he says they were busy blah blah blah...and short staffed. Short staffed? Lol. I've been here when grown ups were working and they have way more people in line and were able to get the food out without making a bunch of excuses. I said so are you going to make me wait forever to take my order like you did when we called? And one of the kids says "yep, pretty much". Now that's service. Whoever runs this place may want to have an adult present instead of leaving their business to a bunch of kids who don't know anything about customer service. read more

A friend and I tried this "little gem" today. If you have not done so already, don't walk, run to The Rustic Muffin. As a vegetarian, I could not find a lunch bagel sandwich, so one of the owners made one for me. As a New Yorker, I can tell you their bagels are authentic "New York" style - and delicious. Great muffins worth every calorie! Hard to find a bakery that puts integrity into their work, but this place does. They strive to create a product unlike anything else in the area and have successfully attained their goal. Their weekly specials have me coming back faithfully. Came here today for the first time and never again. 40 minutes to get a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit, and a turkey bagel. I ordered a muffin but they ran out before they filled my order. My friend who ordered after me, got her food a full 20 minutes before I did. Not to mention the 10 other people who ordered after me and got their food before me. Coffee taste like flavored water. Beyond ridiculous, will not be back. read more

The Rustic Muffin has quickly become part of my morning ritual. Their food is excellent, their coffee is to die for, and the staff is super friendly. Their prices make it affordable for me to stop by everyday (a coffee and something to eat for under $5). I really enjoy their interior decor, it feels like home. The wall art blends in nicely with with the rest of the cafe, and is for sale by local artists. There are days in which i do not have time to stop in, but they have that covered with their very fast drive thru. In short, this place is awesome!! read more

When I found out a coffee/bakery location was opening up near my house, I was super excited! Who doesn't love convenience with a side of carbs? I often go to coffee houses with a reusable mason jar, lid and bamboo straw. I do this in hopes to save the company a dime (on their cup) and to be eco friendly at the same time. So many places do this now and it's incredible!! I arrived for the soft opening where the female owner absolutely refused to use my glass jar and stated that if I wanted to buy her a reusable plastic container she would be more than happy to fill theirs. I asked her why, if I already had a reusable container? She didn't have much of a reason and she got slightly defensive making her young cashiers and helpers very uncomfortable so I gave up, caved in with their plastic cup and bought an egg and sausage bagel, raspberry scone an iced latte with almond milk (even though she said they would have coconut milk and didn't). The bagel was quite good, chewy and crispy outside, soft and moist on the Inside but they microwaved the eggs and sausage instead of having a convection oven. The underside of my scone was quite dark, I'd probably consider it burned. The coffee was undesirable to say the least. It was watered down, not flavorful or robust. Total disappointment for coffee. Fast forward to my next visit to the rustic muffin. I decided to chalk up my previous experience to the stress of starting a new business. I go with my neighbor who wanted to see if they would fill his reusable container. I ordered another scone, a jalapeño cheddar bagel with lox and cream cheese and iced latte with coconut milk. My neighbor ordered an iced coffee and bagel then proceeded to ask for them to fill his container. The young cashier almost filled his container when another person came out and muffled that they "better not do that or Grant (the "muffin man"/owner) would be angry". Grant came out from the back a few moments later and asked if there's a problem we say that there's no problem but did have some questions. I asked him why he wouldn't allow a glass container versus plastic cups. He went from 0 to 10 on the anger scale saying things like "we use plastic recyclable cups" (to which I will note there was no recycle bin whatsoever for the plastic containers/straws and lids to be disposed of properly. Only a trash can) "I'm not a billion dollar corporation like Starbucks and can't handle the liability" to which I say is just an excuse as 5 out of 6 of the mom and pop coffee shops in the area WILL take your reusable containers happily. You could tell the girls behind the counter were becoming increasingly uncomfortable as much as were we. The owner was loud and cumbersome. He accused me of badgering his wife over the cups on my previous visit. All doing this with a bunch of customers inside sitting down and in line behind us. My neighbor had never even been to the Rustic Muffin before and the owner proceeded to tell him "nobody's making you come in here. You don't have to come back" & " when you get a $250,000 business loan you can run your recyclable business however you want". 2 of the girls behind the counter whispered that they agreed they wished they could accept reusable containers and that it makes sense to reduce the waste of plastic, styrofoam and trash. They also mouthed apologies. In my opinion the unwillingness to hear what your customers have to say to make your business better is what makes a poor business management. Not being able to be open, forward thinking and having the "customer is always right" ethic" is poor form. Reaching the level of discomfort that that the owner made myself and others feel was embarrassing. Personally I wouldn't invest my money here. I want to invest in local businesses that are progressive thinking and that care about their local environment/neighborhoods not just lining their pockets. It's sad because the bagel I had was tasty but the coffee was subpar at best both times and the scones were both burnt. Not worth the money or hassle. read more

My husband and I happened upon this establishment by accident and are very happy we did ! He grew up in NY and has been searching for a " real bagel". His favorite is the salt bagel and it did not disappoint. We are planning to move into the Cane Bay Area next year and are sure to become regulars at the Rustic Muffin. Cannot wait! Hooray for northern food from a northern transplant! When I first saw that this place has real NY bagels, I made a point to try it. Unfortunately, Cane Bay isn't an area I'm usually in, so I had to make an excuse to head up that way. Until then, I stalked their specials on Facebook. I saw that the owner is former CT law enforcement and a supporter of the military. That earns him lots of bonus points! By the time I visited, my eyes were way bigger than my stomach. Even though my heart was set on a bagel, I had to try the meatball GRINDER and butternut squash soup too. It was all delicious, but that soup was spot on! I have to leave my northern transplant seal of approval for Rustic Muffin. read more
