An adorable neighborhood bar and restaurant with great service! The sommeliers and staff are always so generous with questions about wine questions and samples. Also always appreciative of a place with endless bread and really good olive oil. The pasta here has always been good (I've gotten the ravioli, which def benefits from the lemon zest in the filling), and the margarita pizza is yummy but could use a crispier crust (especially in the middle). I still think the wine bar aspects are the highlight more than the restaurant service! Service reigns supreme though. read more

This new Mediterranean restaurant on Church is mostly Italian with a few French, Spanish, and Turkish dishes. We chose to split 2 entrees, the butternut squash risotto, and the seafood pasta special. Our clear favorite was the risotto because it was multi-textured (crispy onions and garlic, shaved Parmesan, creamy risotto) and multiflavored a combination of savory and sweet. The handmade pasta was nicely done and the clams and mussels were a generous portion. The waiter was a caring Italian man who had the kitchen split all our dishes and gave great recommendations. We got the broccolini as a side, followed by a chocolate budino dessert. The broccolini was seasoned and still crunchy. The budino was rich and a perfect portion to share. This place was super great! Tbh it's probably some of the best food i've ever had in SF. The only bad thing was that the cups on the table have just seemingly been sitting there for who knows how long so after the very nice gentlemen poured water into my glass, there was just dust and black specs sitting at the top of my glass. Kinda gross. Being grossed out from the water, I ordered an ice tea - it was not worth $5 BUT it was a lot better than my dusty water. The pesto was FABULOUS. I feel like restaurants normally over do oil in pesto and my lord, was this pesto PERFECT. Fresh and amazing. My boyfriend got the margarita pizza, while it was bland for my liking, he loved it. Today, around 2 PM on Saturday, my partner and I had brunch at The Rustic. It's a really nice place with a pretty interior and a cozy patio. I had the Italian Sando and a Vermouth Bianco, while my partner had the Rigatoni Bolognese and a mocktail, which was really good. The food was tasty, although my Italian Sando was a bit cold. Service was super friendly, all the food was delicious and decor is cute. The covered patio has a tree with string light - i bet it's a nice date spot for the evening. Price was pretty standard for SF. Appetizers are 15-20 avg and mains are 25-40 (except for fancy steak). They also are dog friendly. My best friends birthday was on the dreaded Monday aka restaurant Saturday, so I was searching for a while trying to find a spot for him and I'm so glad I landed here. The ambiance of the rustic is truly unmatched. The decor is trendy and beautiful from the pink phone booth to the fun lights. We were seated quickly around 7PM and we immediately began ordering away. We got the specialty pizza with mozzarella, Calabrese chili and pepperoni and YUM. Confession: I love New York pizza more than the authentic Italian pizza. So this thin crust gloriousness won me over. They used just the right amount of the ingredients so that they all shone without overwhelming each other (I'm looking at you, Calabrese) and this was truly our favorite part of the meal. Second favorite the broccolini. I was shocked at how much I liked this to be honest. I really loved the light seasonings they added on which made the broccolini shine. It was well cooked and had an excellent mouth feel. Third favorite was our side of fries. We spoke with our server about how we enjoyed our elevated McDonald's fries (shoestring fries, for people with class, which is not me) and he told us about the kitchens experimentation with different shapes which is why you might see other shapes on Yelp! For now, skinny seems to be the winner which +1 from me, they crisp up better. The ox rage came split into two plates, which was so nice! At this point, we realized we over ordered but we had to commit to our decisions. I personally liked the parpadelle, but my best friend found it too Al dente. There were a few bites that I thought I agreed, but for the most part, I like it a little Al dente. The server came out with a little panna cotta with a candle for us and joked that he knew we were too full to order dessert so he just brought one out, which was so sweet! The panna cotta wasn't too sweet, however, which is the ultimate Asian compliment. It was creamy and the custard was smooth. The Rustic took over the old Cook Shoppe space, so the restaurant, staff and menu are all fairly new. I came here for dinner with a party of 4 on a Friday night. We had a reservation, so we got seated immediately. While the restaurant was buzzing, there were still plenty of tables available. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive. He was helpful and patient, even when we were being indecisive about what to get. Everything on the menu sounded good, so we decided to share everything! - A bottle of Cab Sauvignon Piave ($40): Well balanced and went well with our food options - Mussels ($15): Good flavor, my favorite appetizer of the night - Steak tartare ($18): Good, but not particularly stand out. The tartare was clean tasting, but I felt it could have used more seasoning - Spanish octopus ($16): Octopus was tender, could have used more sauce - Daily pasta special ($25): I wish I remembered what the special was because it was my favorite dish of the night. It had a white truffle sauce, sausage and some other deliciousness. - Mortadella Pizza ($23): I'm just generally not a huge fan of mortadella, so I only had a bite, but the rest of my party really enjoyed this and finished it entirely. The ambiance is trendy, warm and romantic, but not overly extravagant. A really cute place for a not-too-fancy nice meal. It's perfect for lots of occasions, and the portions are great for sharing. The restaurant is on a busy street, so allow yourself time to find parking. Overall, a solid 4 stars with lots of potential to get to 5 with some refinement, but I'd return to the Rustic for its quality of food, ambiance, service and pricing. After dinner, there are also some good cocktail bars nearby like Last Rites, Blackbird and Churchill, all within walking distance from the Rustic, if you want to keep the night going! read more

I have to give this place my appreciation, This is a true neighborhood gem! The location is very good and the set up is just fit for the type of food they serves. The ambiance is: electric! Marco the Italian bartender is so funny and friendly. I felt like I have known that guy for a very long time already even though it was the first time that we met. That man is so kind and will make you really feel welcomed and valued. Marco works behind the bar every day except Mondays. He is from Rome and a big Lazio fan (AS Roma hometown arch rival). Say hello to Marco! And Zoti the owner is also nice and kind. Complimentary Focaccia was amazing! (the best complimentary table bread I've ever had anywhere). You can choose to sit in the main dining area which has mood lighting, more intimate or the patio. We sat in the patio and it was cold. The waiter put on the heater close to us which helped but I think to keep the area warm all 4 wall heaters need to be on. We were given a wonderful focaccia bread with olive oil for dipping. I ordered the ravioli and pesto which was ok not a winner for me. My sister ordered pappardelle with beef ragu which was very good. The waiter was a doll , good looking with an accent and he actually was a very good waiter. Wine and beer is served. If you're going on a date choose the main room. There were so many good things to choose on the menu that we were thinking about trying/sharing. The waiter came over and helped us land on the Ox-tail pappardelle and orecchiette, and the Bluefin tuna crudo. Crudo was a great blast of bright flavors and tender bites, and both pastas were cooked with a nice al dente bite. focaccia is available by request but nothing to rave about. Other two dishes at the table pesto ravioli and oxtail pasta. No complaints, just not noteworthy. Service was good. Hostess was wonderful. The main portion of the restaurant appeared to be having some sort of repair. She offered us patio seating, which was perfect. They have an awning that covers the area as it gets colder in the evening and also heat lamps it was very pleasant and I would recommend the patio. The waiter askari started off very attentive, but fell off as a larger party was being served. Sensational service by Ariel and Jonny - Jonny tried three times to blend custom cocktail for my sister that he thought she would like. Other servers, alas, not nearly as good and below par for pre pandemic standards and on par for post pandemic. I especially love the branzino which they marinate nicely - both moist and flavorful. Huge tip: pizzas are great but only two pizzza ovens. So if it is crowded ask before ordering. tiny point: the fennel salad on branzino not for everyone but they will sub. Super friendly host greeted me. I was meeting friends from out for town and couldn't have picked a better spot. I ordered moules frites because If it's on the menu, that's my meal. I also had the little gems salad. We shared my fries because the portions were quite generous. My friends had the butternut squash risotto and the campanelle bolonese. Everything was perfect and service was quick. When we arrived it was early on a Monday evening --maybe 6pm--and quiet. Business picked up by the time we left but we never felt rushed. We were very pleasantly surprised by our dinner at Rustic. On an early Friday evening and were seated immediately in the outdoor area, which was our preference. We really missed this outdoor space from the Chow days and Rustic did a great job keeping the space warm and inviting. We ordered the tomato soup of the day, which they kindly split into two bowls so my husband and I could share. The soup was so good! I ordered the pappardelle oxtail ragu and my husband ordered the linguini and clams. We both thoroughly enjoyed our pastas. The linguine also has a creative twist with the unexpected addition of corn. We will definitely be back to try more soon. read more

Glad I came food is amazing!!! The pasta cooked yo perfection with sausages and mushrooms. The bread juice moist and herd well. Service was quick and friendly made sure Bauer had plenty of water, he even got a special treat. All hands on deck at this spot, in which I love. Not having to wait in designated waiter. When my friend and I arrived, we asked if we could be seated away from the front, but they denied the request even though for the rest of the evening the rear of the restaurant was empty. We were asked if you wanted sparkling or Stillwater, and responded sparkle we were served tapwater. My friend ordered the steak, a New York strip, but the cut did not seem to be an NY strip, and the meat was burned on the outside. At least the interior was cooked properly.
