The Rye Roadhouse is unique in its setting; you'll have to google it or ask someone to find it. The food they serve is also unique for the area, as you don't find too many Creole-oriented eateries in Westchester. I initially went for the ever famous Gator Nuggets, a really different and delicious treat. I personally had never eaten gator, so I got it fried and it tasted great. The Roadhouse uses their own batter to fry various things on the menu, which gives the gator nuggets a different (but good) texture. They do the same with their Shrimp Po' Boy - another great choice. I have also tried the boiled crawfish, but they were overly salty and pretty tough. Prices are a little high here. The place isn't just Creole/Cajun style food, they also offer normal bar-fare etc. Good beer selection. Dont go if you're looking for a salad. You can sit at the bar, or at a table in the dining room - and they have 2 or 3 small tables outside. Give this place a shot and you won't be disappointed - if you can find it. read more

It wasn't easy to find this place hidden amongst unassuming houses and apartment buildings, but Im glad I did because the food is awesome. Certainly the only restaurant I know of serving southern/creole cuisine in this area, making it a very unique choice for dinner. The inside is very tavern-esque, dark and wood-paneled with a southern Bayou vibe. Instead of your usual bread and butter, you get warm cornbread with maple apple butter. This alone was worth the journey, like a big southern hug of hospitality. Their fried chicken is legendary, perfectly crisp and tender with mashed potatoes and gravy. Everything is straight and true, unhealthy but indulgent. You also can't leave without having their amazing bread pudding. The service was warm and friendly to match the food. This is one of our local go to places (may have been here 20+ times) but I do feel like the food is going slowly downhill. I think I may even stop going for a while because at the prices it's kind of steep for a hit and miss situation. The jambalaya we had today was just incredibly inedible (rice uncooked, meat cooked to death and tough/dry) in a giant mound that looked plopped on the plate without care. Thank goodness for the amazing waitress who was so quick to get another dish out that was much better. Agree with others the service is just lovely and so excellent!!! Got the shrimp. Poboy (good!) but the sweet potato fries tasted funny and were almost burnt (or maybe the fry oil needs to be changed?). Add to this 6.95 for the tiniest house salad ever and a $55 bill for two entrees and no drinks. Hopefully this is just a hiccup. Went to the Rye Roadhouse with a couple of friends for Fat Tuesday's. Now I used to frequent this joint a dozen or so years ago when I worked in the area and so I was looking forward to some good Cajun eats. Even driving down the back road's of Rye brought back a few good old memories of liquid lunches and flavorful spice and hot sauce laden dishes. When we arrived the place looked the same and was packed and jumping. Now for the reality First off we started with muscles and shrimp in a wine broth, these were the worst I have ever had, the muscles were tiny and there was so much grit in the muscle and broth that it was inedible. Next was the smothered chicken, veggies with side of jalapeno mac-n-cheese, nothing had any flavor. How the heck do you take flavor out of a jalapeno? The wife had the ribs and mashed potatoes. She barley finished a rib and was so disappointed she had the rest to go. She threw it away when we got home. Due to the fact we were with a group of friends we regrettably didn't say anything at the table. If it was just the wife and me they would have heard me voice my concerns as the food would have went back. And the kicker is the next day my buddy and his wife said the same thing about the food stating how tasteless his fried chicken was. I should have left this place in my memories because I was totally blown away with the lack of flavor and low quality of the dishes. Never again! read more

The Roadhouse is a very unique restaurant that you cannot miss if you are in the area. The staff if friendly and energetic, the food is fantastic, and the atmosphere is slightly divey, but comforting and warm. There is outdoor seating for warm summer nights, and hot steak chili for cold winter evenings. Now I'll be honest, I have been going to The Roadhouse for a long time now, but there's a good reason for that. The food is out of this world, and you can't get anything like it anywhere else. I'm not even sure I've heard of another place serving Gator Nuggets this side of the Mason-Dixie line. The fried chicken is pure soul food. The wings are crispy and saucy. The ribs fall right off the bones, and the blackened seasoning on anything will leave your mouth watering. One thing I also love is the specials they offer. Monday night is half priced burger night, and that comes with a fat pile of perfectly seasoned fries (regular or sweet potato). And of course, don't forget you can get that blackened seasoning on your burger too. Wednesday night? Half a fried chicken and 2 sides for $10.99. That's a meal that can easily feed 2. And one of my favorite things? If you're a fan of hot sauce, this is your heaven. They have at least 50 different types of hot sauce scattered around the bar and tables (and even a few dangerously hot ones that they keep behind the counter). If you haven't been here, and you're in the area, I highly suggest it. So my over all experience was okay... The waitress was really nice.... My favorite was the fried chicken.... It came with collard greens and Mac&cheese ... The fried chicken was great.... Reminded me of home which is NC....... But those collard greens was the worst I ever had in my life... They were super sweet... Taste just like someone put a whole bottle of maple syrup in them... They were just to sweet for my liking..... And then there was the mac&cheese ... It was tasteless .... And it was pink on the inside...a light pink I should say... Didn't taste like much of nothing.... Me and my boyfriend ordered the same sides... And we left them pretty much untouched... Also they charged us for refills on our drinks... I have never heard of that In my life.... And we didn't ask for refills......oh and if you are hoping for a nice looking restaurant ... Having gone to this establishment many times for years we had an incredibly horrible experience tonight. The owner Cody could not have been more rude to our group. There were 8 of us we ordered appetizers and when one of them came we thought is was a half order when we questioned it Cody was extremely rude didn't take the time to listen to my complaint. Walked away and when he came back and I asked him to return the appetizer he gave us a very cold attitude. Then we decided to leave and not have dinner. the appetizer was on the check and we had a hard time having it removed. When we left he never said goodbye or tried to make it right, I am very disappointed that owner would treat valued customers like this. We will not be going back. The owner needs to learn that his customers are his most important part of his business read more

Ok.. Being from the south I'm always on the hunt for southern style comfort food, so my girlfriend and I drive to find this restaurant and give it a try. First of all it's exactly as the suggest.. (Dive bar) in the middle of some residential neighborhood, kind of hard to find, with little to no parking. So when we finally get inside and seated (feeling as if we have made a mistake by driving this far this restaurant) we order as soon as possible, because at this point we just want to eat and leave! I had the boiled crawfish, a small bowl of gumbo,and blackened catfish with collard greens, and macncheese. My girlfriend ordered popcorn shrimp, southern fried chicken, collard greens, and macncheese. We started with the complimentary cornbread sticks that were served ice cold along with two fountain drinks, so after waiting about 20 minutes we received our appetizers. I must say the shrimp and crawfish were pretty good, but the gumbo which was mostly rice, was bland and gray with little to no flavor, and no texture. I really wouldn't be surprised if it was made a week ago. Now on to the entrees! The chicken was very good! I admit some of the best that I've had since living in NY. The catfish was OK, could have been seasoned a little more, not quite what I expected for blacked. Like I said before, I'm on the hunt for comfort food which definitely includes the side dishes! I love collard greens! Apparently they don't, these greens soooooo sweet that I could only manage one or two fork forkfuls. I was really disappointed because they were one of the reasons I chose this place, and the macncheese was just straight out Gross! I've had better out of a box, but despite all that, what really pissed me off was that I believe in tipping, I understand that waitstaff normally make their living off of their tips, so I try to play fair, so when I noticed after the fact that I had left a pretty nice tip, that I had been charged full price for two drink refills that we didn't ask for in the first place it mad me fill as if I was being nickel&dimed!!! The Roadhouse is a great place to grab a drink and get some southern inspired eats, IF you can find it. They are tucked away in a residential neighborhood in Rye, which is a very cool but somewhat difficult location to find. However, it is well worth the search. The staff is great. I love sitting at the amazing bar or in the modest dining room. They have a nice outdoor seating area, but most of the time it is completely ruined by people smoking. Try the alligator bites if you are feeling adventurous and the fried chicken is delicious. My favorite is the corn bread and the jambalaya! Oh yeah, and they have a large selection of hot sauces to try out. They infrequently have live music which is awesome and their clientele has a very local vibe. The meatloaf and the sides that came with it(we chose the jalapeño mac n cheese and sweet potato fries) were amazing, but the jambalaya was disappointing. One would expect a restaurant that advertises Cajun cuisine to nail its jambalaya, this one was really bland. I had to empty half a bottle of hot sauce into it to get any real flavor out of it. Along with the printed menu, there's a very large blackboard listing special brews, appetizers, and desserts. Of our party of four, no meal disappointed. We chose the jambalaya, etouffee, and the fish n chips. We opted for dessert instead of an appetizer, and ordered the key lime pie (not a slice, but an individual mini-pie). It was OK. I've had better (of course in Florida!). The service was good with a friendly server and owner who made it a point to ask how we were enjoying our meals.
