The Salad Bar is a quick take out place in the middle of the City Center Complex/Nicolette Mall on the 2nd floor just outside the Chase branch. Quick service, many healthy choice salad combinations and splurge ingredients to select from. There are plenty of dressings including low cal and even fresh lemon juice, olive oil and straight balsamic vinegar. Everything is fresh then hand chopped to make a delicious salad! I ordered the Cobb and customized with no bacon or croutons. I had balsamic vinegarette and a little chipotle ranch. They had a 1/2 of an avocado, whole boiled egg and nice amounts of grilled chicken and bleu cheese. Great fresh salad that won't break the nutrition bank. Great alternative vs a fried burger or high calorie sandwich! They have a little dining area on the backside where you can just relax and eat. read more

I worked at the Salad Bar very briefly. The owners were very nice and the woman I worked with was really nice as well- the money was good.! It was infested with cockroaches. I was completely shocked, and I had an allergic reaction to cockroaches, which is a very dangerous allergy. They basically had all sorts of cans of bug spray around.- they denied knowing how serious the problem was if it wasn't for me I don't think they would've hired professional exterminators they did and I had to quit the job because I was getting really bad asthma and horrible allergies. I hope they continue to maintain their bug infestation. They were everywhere breeding... It was a very, very disturbing experience! I was told that the cockroaches came during Covid when the other places were shut down, very bad experience!!! I will say the people were really nice, but obviously they were neglectful ... I could've ended up in the hospital because my asthma was flaring up so badly I was wheezing. People are allergic to cockroach, dung and urine and the shedding of their skin. They were everywhere in the drains in the fans to the machinery there were of all sizes and breeding ! read more

Asian Chicken Salad for me, please! We found this place while searching through the downtown skyways, looking for something good to eat. We found it! At first, I thought it was a little spendy but the lunch line was long & may as try it once, right? Lots of fresh ingredients-including spinach (not iceberg lettuce as a base) and the carrots were crunchy fresh! Using the 10% Yelp offer, my healthy salad was less than $10 (but I had to tip well, right?). Opting to drink their water in compostable glasses was a nice addition to my healthy lunch! read more

I don't really see why people are hating on this place so much... So to clarify a couple of their concerns: You think this is overpriced for an iceberg salad? Then get romaine or arugula! There are other lettuce options available. $9 is too much money? I agree that is seems like a lot at first glance, but considering the solid taste and how much food you get for the price, it's actually not bad at all. Especially since you're in a downtown metropolis (where things are always more expensive). One of the reasons I'm actually giving them 5 stars is because it scores really high when considering the price to taste to quantity ratio (for a metropolitan area). Not enough protein? Well it is a salad... I want to say it was closer to a half cup of chicken, not a quarter cup. And if you consider how often you should have a piece of chicken or some other ingredient alongside your lettuce, it's actually a fairly respectable balance. If you wanted more chicken than lettuce, might I suggest the McDonald's Chicken Sandwich around 1 mile or so in the other direction. Poor ingredient quality? I feel like you might either be stuck up, or haven't experienced truly poor ingredient quality. I mean, they offer complimentary mint water to patrons. This is quite frankly, a delight in hydration form. And if a business takes the time to put mint in their water, I feel like this should show they do care about ingredient quality. Is it hard to find? Ok, you got me on this one. In actuality, I found it BECAUSE I was lost in the skyway, not because I was searching it out. In reality, this place probably only really deserves 4 stars. I ended up at The Salad Bar after a failed attempt to find D. Brian's in the skyway. I'm not a fan of the skyway, as I never can remember which leads to where. So, I decided that, since I wanted a salad in the first place, that I may as well get one here. I got the Twin Cities (rest of name I can't remember) something or other. The salad was ok. It was missing personality, which is the opposite of the young man who made my salad. I wished that it were as peppy and fun as this guy. For me, salad isn't supposed to be ok. Salad is supposed to be fantastic, which is why I was looking for D. Brian's in the first place. If I find myself lost again, I'll probably get a salad here. I am in love with The Salad Bar! They have a fantastic selection of salads that are all made right before your eyes. I found ordering a little tricky the first time around (you tell the the kind of salad you want and meat selection), but after you get the hang of it, you'll be a pro. I've found it difficult to try the different salads on their menu simply because I just can't get enough of their Santa Fe salad (which averages a little over $10). One of the things I like best about this place is that they combine all of your salad ingredients (including dressing) and then toss and chop them right before your eyes. The end result: A salad that is mixed to perfection and every bite is good from start to finish. And the salad's are huge! Oftentimes there is a pretty big line outside their kiosk, but don't be fooled: the team is friendly and quick. I have only waited about 5 minutes or so before being served, so it's definitely an optical illusion. Check this place out! Fresh and super tasty! read more

They offer great options (lots of meat options, nuts, fruit, veggies, etc), and their signature salads are also a nice option when you can't handle the pressure of all those ingredients... FINALLY! A place to get a custom salad (other than Allie's). Quick line, lots of options, everything looks fresh and tastes as such. Good options for vegetarians, aka tofu (although its just raw tofu, so its not the tastiest of treats! And its pretty darn affordable, though I imagine you could put quite a bill together if you were the kind of person who wants like 4 types of cheese! I do wish they would have some information out indicating which of the dressings were healthier choices. Also, I wish they would go a smidge lighter on the lettuce(s) and a bit heavier on the toppings, but all in all a good salad! As with most new places in the skyway, best to go early or late to avoid the rush until the newness wears off. Kind of a big average for me. It's pretty much like any other salad bar line. Fresh ingredients, good vegetable and protein selection, and option of tossed or chopped. Generally your salad is as good as the components you put in it. With that said, a key component of a salad is the dressing and I feel that this is an area where they are lacking. Better caesars and vinaigrettes can be found at other establishments. For my money (and time saved not waiting in line), I'd rather get a salad from Allie's, au bon pain, or Macy's. Zelo's has some great salad options as well. I'd probably visit again, but it wouldn't be my first option. read more

First, the good: fresh greens, nicely chopped and tossed in a large bowl...easy to eat without getting lettuce EVERYWHERE. This place has been all the buzz while we looked at the "Coming Soon" sign for months and anticipation was building. The City Center has experienced some rough times and has lacked good healthy lunch choices for some time. I was personally excited for this place to open because it was very close for me to run out at lunch and get back to the piles of work that I so love. Usually the quick option would be Leann Chin's or Au Bon Pain and well, those places you face a challenge with making a healthy choice. The line is a bit long at prime time, so it is best to wait until after 1:00 p.m. I see this place as the Subway of Salad Bars. They are very slow moving the line, probably due to newness and training, so I am lenient for now. They have a good choice of ingredients but the meat products are not the best quality. As one co-worker put it "gas station chicken." I agree, the chicken seems to have a strange consistency, but it tastes OK. Overall, I encourage people to give it a try, but the Macy's Sky Room Salad Bar remains on the top of my salad bar list and it is less expensive if you like a lot of ingredients. The Salad Bar can get you if you like a lot of "stuff" with your lettuce. Oh, and one more thing, they do not have any Light or Fat Free dressing. They recently got a new guy at the end of the line to do the final mix-up, absolutely terrible. nothing from my "salad" is chopped up, the pepper piece is just a whole piece kind of smashed. I asked for little dressing, and he put a whole lot on it, making the whole salad extremely salty and basically not edible at all (I threw mine out after taking 2 bites). I've found my groove with this place. There is a certain salad I get now that I really like and is consistent across my visits. The positives of the location and experience combined with a good salad make this now a fairly regular lunch stop. I do stick with my original comment that they should explore more seasoned or prepared veggies, as opposed to raw veggies (still struggling with the raw beets!). Last week I went to a place in DC with an identical concept (Chopt) and got a salad with soy marinated baked tofu, roasted broccoli, pickled beets, and other prepared toppings. I'd heard that the line is pretty long since this place is still new and hyped, so waited until 1pm to check it out. The line wasn't too long, but the process still took quite a while... It's pretty straight forward: Pick your greens, pick your toppings and pick any extras you want. However, I noted that several items visibly available weren't noted or listed on the pricing grid above (one was Ham and the other was Artichoke Hearts - not too obscure of items). I had to ask if the artichoke hearts were a normal topping or premium ($1) - it was a normal topping. Not a huge fan of having to ask pricing when it should be included on the pricing table. Probably getting picky on my part, but it was sorta awkward. You're supposed to be able to choose if you want your salad chopped or tossed at the end. I wasn't asked and he just started chopping away. Luckily, I probably wanted it chopped anyway. He was generous with his dressing pour (I got lemon juice and olive oil), which was nice. I also note that, although I think most of the Premium toppings aren't worth the $1 (roasted tomatoes, quinoa, kalamata olives), I think it's very fair to get half an avocado for $1. Unfortunately, they were out when I asked for some on my salad... When I sat down to eat the salad, pretty much a basic salad. Which is fine, I didn't have any crazy expectations. Though, I got the "fresh" beets and they were like big sticks. Seriously, hard and super crunchy sticks. Not cool. I love beets. Sad face. Overall, I'll stick to Allie's 9 times out of 10. I liked that The Salad Bar offered Arugula as one of the green choices and Avocado for $1, but Allie's overall offers just as many toppings and a straight forward and reasonable pricing - and always friendly and efficient employees ("Thank you more"). So, I really like coming to this place most of the time because you typically get more bang for your buck than a Sprout or Green+The Grain and the salads are tasty - by $1 or two if you really build up your salad. Nothing fancy, but quality - that'd get you 4-5 stars from me. Honestly after a few trips here, I'm getting really frustrated with the lack of customer service from start to finish. I'll order a Santa Fe and ask for black beans instead of tomato, and the guy at the lettuce station will tell me to say something to the veggie girl, who makes the salad before EVER even looking my direction. Last time I was there I was overcharged for two proteins when I didn't have any proteins, only "premiums". Today I noticed after the fact the dressing used by the salad barista said Asian which was not what I ordered. I asked him about it and he lied and said it was the Caribbean mango dressing I ordered. Bringing it back to my office to eat, I can confirm it was in fact the wrong dressing. In the future I will get my salads from a place where the employees are honest. read more

If you're looking for a quick, healthy, and customizable lunch I'd definitely recommend this kiosk. It's popular, yet the line moves super quickly. There is a small menu of salads but the best part is making your own. First you choose your leaf base: spinach, arugula, or romaine, then you move on to the toppings and then the dressing. There's a pretty wide variety of choices and I believe you get 4 toppings for the starting price and then its .50 more for each additional one. The ingredients are fresh and they employees chop everything up and mix in the dressing for you unless you choose to have it on the side obviously. A refreshing, chopped salad is always an easy lunch option as opposed to fast food. I'd say its fairly healthy and delicious. I'm being completely honest when I say I would legitimately be 10 lbs heavier if it were not for this salad bar. This is the much needed barrier between me and the Chipotle right down the skyway. Don't let the long lines deceive you, these workers are incredibly speedy and prepare your salad with a smile on their face. During peek hours, the ingredients are fresh and and you can get eggs and walnuts on your salad without an additional charge- always a plus for me. Tried the Salad Bar for the first time today and was quite satisfied with the entire experience. Although it was busy when I went at noon, the line moved quickly. I opted for the 'Asian Chicken' premade bowl and was impressed with the freshness of the ingredients and taste - although some of the other lettuces also out looked wilty and brown. It was difficult to hear the employees over the din of the City Center, so I wasn't really sure what options they were presenting to me - a 'yes' seemed to do the trick, though. Simple, straight forward, fast, and presto I had a freshly chopped salad for lunch four of the five days last week. The line varies in speed and length but considering they're making every salad to order on the spot I expected as much and didn't consider it a drawback. I always go with the 50/50 arugula/spinach mix as my base, and then just grab whatever toppings I felt like. My favorites are the artichoke, beets, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Super good. The staff got me through the process quickly and were courteous. After they placed the toppings and made some chit-chat, the fun started. CHOP CHOP CHOP, and I was back to my office to enjoy. Like other reviewers have stated, the salad is as good as you make it. I haven't tried the smoothies downstairs, and probably won't until it warms up a bit. read more

This place has a very prominent space in the skyway that intersects multiple buildings. That's both good and bad. The noise level and traffic, along with the chopping and banging of metal bowls makes for a trying experience while ordering. Simply put , no one can hear. Salads are delicious. However organization is SEVERELY lacking. Every time I go they are out of something. If you are out of a dressing or topping you should put a sign up notifying customers so they don't make it to the end and have to pick a substitute quickly under pressure of the line behind you that totally changes the taste of the salad. They also seem to have a hard time making salads that aren't one of the basic options available. I always say "no tomatoes" first to each person My salad gets to, and every time and without fail they scoop on a big pile of tomatoes. Slow down a bit and listen to what your customers request. On the ground floor they have a smoothie/parfait/fruit salad place that doesn't make much sense. The smoothies are not very tasty nor healthy, pretty expensive and not worth a return trip. Despite the fact that most of their food would be considered breakfast food they don't open until 10am. This was my first time to The Salad Bar and I wasn't impressed. I expected to find a place that would rival Sprouts in quality and beat them in price (RBC building)...nope. The prices are just slightly less and if you customize your salad, you'd be over for sure. They are pretty skimpy with the protein (looked like 1/4 cup of 2" x 2" chunks). After a fairly long wait in line the chopper guy chops my salad and scoops it all into the container, BUT he leaves one of the chunks of chicken on the chopping board and tosses it in the garbage with all the other stuff he didn't take the time to add to the container. When you get maybe 4-5 pieces, don't throw it away. read more
