My wife and I stopped there on a Sunday (early afternoon) on our drive from Yachats to Astoria. We were seated rather quickly, but that was the only thing quick. Service was very slow. It took a long time to place an order and even longer to get some oysters (very small) and out chowder (which was thick and basically had no smoked salmon at all). Ordered takeout during the week in November 2021. Our order was ready in under 20-minutes. We started with the meatballs for an appetizer and they were dense. I reheated them in the microwave and they softened up a bit but would not get them again. My husband got the bolognese and it was incredible. The pasta and sauce were perfect! Despite some good reviews on this website and the fact I have eaten here 5 times, I will NEVER come here again. The food is inconsistent, but mostly horrible. I'm a local so was hoping it would get better. No. 1.The bread, veggie and cheese plate for $16. Horrible. 1 1/2 small pieces of bread..burnt and black. 2 tablespoons of cheese. 5 pieces of stale salami. No olives. No spread for burnt toast. Some greasy veggies. We returned it. We met some other folks in the parking lot..they said their toast was burned too. 2. Toast (tuna spread on 2 pieces of burned bread). $14 The tuna was very watery. Some old peas thrown on the top. Ugh. 3. Heirloom Salad. $12. No lettuce. One tomato sliced into wedges with some oily dressing on top. Are you kidding? 4. Hamburger slices. $14. Greasy little burgers, No lettuce. No cheese. NEVER will I EVER come back here. 3 different chefs in 5 months. Good luck SalmonBerry Saloon remaining open for the year. When the tourists have gone, you will depend on the locals to keep you open. You can't serve food like this and hope to stay open during the long winter we have here. The service and waiters are friendly, but the food? OMG-yuck. PS. You used to serve a local special...chicken wings and a beer for $6. I was told it's to keep the locals coming in. Then WHY did you take it off the menu at the bar after only 2 weeks? After 8 hours on a chartered fishing trip with family who live in the area, we were dying for a $13 Manhattan and some roasted beets. Kidding. We were looking for a tasty yet reasonably affordable meal that could sustain a year-round restaurant on the Oregon Coast for years to come. But no, we found a lettuce, pickle, and mustard salad for $14. On this sunny Sunday afternoon in August, the hostess, bartender, and server each informed us that service would be slow, so the bar was really set high. My family has vacationed, lived, and occasionally worked in the area for 45 years. It's hard to find reliable help on the coast, but terrible service won't keep people coming back. During our meal, we interacted with four different people and none of them knew what the other was doing or what we needed. The ambiance in the bar is nice, but the music was a little loud for such a small space. The view from the deck is stunning, but if you can't get any service, you could just as easily drag a lawn chair down to the docks. I get the whole trendy, locally-sourced-oysters-with-a-draft-Hamm's-beer vibe, but that does not longevity make. Our table had the chowder (DELISH! the star of the meal!), the steamers (a small portion and not very flavorful), fish and chips (fine), and a couple of burgers (one ordered medium, one ordered medium rare: both served more than well done).The quality of the food was generally good, and it was fresh and local. They were out of a wine I ordered, and when the service was slow, we were given one $2 draft beer...for five people...to share....? to compensate for the terrible service...? It was weird. When we received our bill for a table of five, it was clearly a tab for table of one. It was a struggle to get our real bill, which was $121. Unwashed hipsters en route to surfing will keep this place afloat in the summer, but the locals won't put up with this nonsense through the winter. read more

My first visit to Salmonberry Saloon was a very positive experience. I was offered an outside table for 6, even though I was a party of 1. I chose to eat in the bar instead. My Old Fashioned was perfect, and bonus points for the paper straw! My steamers were fabulous and came after a bit of a wait, but the bartender had intervened because my original batch was over cooked. I took away one star only because I feel they could jazz those steamers up a bit. Their predecessors had a great version of steamers. The new owners are serving classic steamers that are heavy on butter, but thin on garlic, wine, or other aromatics. I always appreciate being treated well as a single diner, and they came through on this one! read more

Food was okay and service was terrible (and yet tip is included at 20% which takes away any incentive of good service). Took 20+ minutes to get seen for the first time after sitting and waitress really could have cared less about service. Food was all local and seasonal which I'm a big supporter of but bland and not much to write home about. Views were great which was the best part of the dinner but overall a big disappointment. We've eaten here a number of times because the setting is exceptional, they are using local ingredients whenever possible, and we like to support our local business. Previously we've found the meals uneven and plain. However, four of us ate today and everyone raved about their choices: Fresh briny oysters, plentiful Arugula salad with beets, glazed cashews with a delicate creamy dressing (topped with an order of crispy calamari), and delicious fish and crispy chips. And of course, their outstanding bread! We enjoy the bar more than the main room which seems cavernous and cold. We have always found the service to be of very high quality. We can recommend this place- we think the kitchen might have hit it's stride. We sure hope so. read more

Great we have another local place to eat! But you have some work to do. Chowder was lacking, was like slurping water and not a lot of goodies in it. Definitely not worth $12.00. I had the toast and that was really good. We were with a group of 6, and don't think anyone was happy with their food. Staff was great, it was busy and the wait was a bit, but that's ok. This was a truly awful experience. We seemed to be the forgotten party, couldn't get coffee or creamer, didn't get our appetizer until after our meal. Nobody checked on how our food was, we'd have sent it back. Now... the food. It was dismal. My $20 scallops were gritty and undercooked, also there was only 3 of them... the tuna steak was cold, the green beans were undercooked, the heirloom tomato salad was just a cut up tomato with some micro greens and the tomato wasn't even ripe! We'll not be back. It was the worst $80 I've ever spent. I mentioned how unpleasant the grit was in my scallops and that one bite actually hurt my teeth... nothing. read more

This is hands down the best deck on the north coast to sit at and enjoy a cocktail and a meal. The whole place recently went through a glorious transformation from a run down dive bar to a beautiful light and wood filled sparkling clean restaurant. The food is sourced from local farms and fisherfolks, breads baked in house, even beer and wine are as local as it gets. We are stoked to live nearby so we can go here and eat our way through their menu of fresh salads, grass fed burgers and fresh seafood. Thumbs up to the new owners for giving our community a great new lunch and dinner spot- looking forward to many more meals to come:) read more

What a great find! This place had only been open for a couple of days when we dropped in. The fish tacos are to die for, and I'm still swooning over the mushroom soup! The atmosphere is nice...beautiful view and deck, and the interior feels very coastal. We also enjoyed most of the seafood dishes that we tried. The cioppino and the bread were both excellent! We also enjoyed the captain's seafood platter, calamari, and clam chowder, though the fried foods were all a little bland and could have been seasoned more. The steak and the burger were both just okay. However, the service was SO slow. I know that this is a pretty new restaurant, and I wasn't expecting everything to be perfect. But waiting an hour and a half for food is excessive. And when our food finally came, we were missing a meal (staff rectified this, but it was frustrating nonetheless). They also forgot to add the pork belly to a burger, and never brought a side salad that we ordered. I think that Salmonberry Saloon could be a really great restaurant, if they could work out some of these issues. It's great that so much of the food is locally sourced, and the atmosphere was great. But the service, and some of the food options, just need a little work. read more

I had read all the hype about it opening decided to give it a few weeks to get it figured out. All the reviews limp fries, flour chowder read on Yelp while receiving underwhelming service and a lack of free water as my server pointed out when we did not order beverages with an eye roll. Experienced sticker shock from the prices. If you want to charge $$ for a bowl of salmon chowder you have to put in salmon not carrots pretending to be salmon. Unfortunately the combination of service, prices, and general quality we will not become regulars. The view is beautiful. They have that going for them. Almost forgot the automatic gratuity for large parties. Come on people that is so 80's. If you are going to do that then the service should be something raved about. Is it that hard to refill water? Would have asked but the server visited our table four times... beverage, food order, drop food, drop check. Nice to stare at empty plates. read more

This place has been re-opened 2 yrs. ago & it's wonderful. In the past it was good but the new owners seemed to have really kicked it up a quite a few notches. Food has complex flavors in all the dishes we ordered. I asked for some extra condiments for the very fresh fish tacos which didn't need much. Hush puppies, seafood chowder, wild bread & butter. This restaurant would be a hit in Portland and we found it in Wheeler, a coastal town here in Oregon. It is seriously worth a trip to the beach. Proprietors Patrick Rock and Chantelle Hylton and Chef Jeff C Day have done an amazing job from a wonderful interior (kudos to the finish carpenter) to excellent service to spectacular food. Love the location! Best on the coast! Having lunch on the deck is sublime. Food was tasty. BUT. We ordered the fish n chips and the portions are very small. I dont expext an entire fillet but these were the smallest fish portions I have come across. Coleslaw was more like a sample then a side. Fries were great and lots of them. It's a cold bar at best. The food was tasteless. Very slow service but not many customers to serve. Just not restaurant quality or what you would expect with the reviews on yelp. We were staying at the wheeler by the bay lodge and we were really hungry after a day at the manzanita beach. It was about a five minute walk from the lodge and it did not disappoint. We took our four kiddos and the were very accommodating and had a great menu for them. My husband got the fish and chips and they were delicious and crunchy. I got the tacos with fish and they were absolutely delicious. Definitely will be going here again whenever we are at the beach! read more

Great service! Great food! The scallops were cooked perfectly, Caramelized on the outside, translucent in the center and $20. I started with the heirloom tomato salad, they respect the produce and used only salt and a tasty green sauce applied sparingly. With the view, who care about the ho-hum decor. read more

We were lounging around in our hotel room, starving... couldn't find a place open besides the Salmonberry Saloon and I was hesitant because there wasn't many reviews or pictures but we decided to go for it. So glad we tried this place! First of all the service was great, the restaurant looks newly remodeled, the drinks were strong but yummy. My fiancé ordered the steak and he said it was the best steak he's ever had! And he is super picky about steak. Very juicy and flavorful. I ordered the Wheeler burger and ohh myyy, the patty was very thick and very flavorful, the fries were delicious! We ordered another side because they were so good. Definitely going to remember this place and visit again soon! read more

I've had three recent experiences here in the last several months and all have been terrific! We're used to having our pick of great restaurants in Portland and rarely find places that meet our expectations. Salmonberry Saloon fits the bill! Our first visit was in January and we had a great meal. Solid beer selection and good food. Our server was attentive and friendly. I recently hosted some family for a visit and brought them here for dinner. We got the last table in the place - right on the water - and received excellent service from Dave. Our cocktails were delicious (we had the Negroni and the Ozzie Rose - the latter was unique and so good we had to get a second). Everyone was pleased with their entrees (we had the chowder, shrimp hush puppies, fish sandwich, kale sandwich, and a mac and cheese special with Dungeness crab - so rich and tasty), the service, and the overall value of our meal. And the following night when we had a disappointing meal across the street, we came here for a nightcap and to order some takeout for someone at home. Again, the staff was excellent to us and the meal we took to go was a hit. This will be a regular stop for us in the future and I highly recommend it! read more

I am so glad to hear that The Salmonberry is back open!  The food was amazing before they had to close (because of Covid precautions) and so I'm really excited to try the new handmade pasta dishes.  I love that everything is locally sourced and delicious. The restaurant itself is in such a beautiful place and the staff is friendly and interesting.  I'm taking my family back there as soon as I can, even though I now live in California.  The trip will absolutely be worth it. read more

Yum, yum, yum. This place is great. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I particularly love the pesto pasta and my partner loves the bolognese. They source locally and have a great beverage selection. Oh and the view can't be beat. read more

I have been here 3 different times and sat in the dinning room once. I love the food but the service in the dining room area was the worst I have experienced in a long time, anywhere. She could not remember what she was supposed to do, and didn't greet us after we sat down for 10 mins at least, maybe more. The service in the bar is great though so I will come back but only sit in bar. read more
