What a joke this place is. Figured I would give this place a try as I have never been there. Tried to place a pickup order online and it said that you could only place orders for the following day. Decided to call my order in and the girl who answered refused to take my order over the phone, insisting she was too busy. Said I will need to come in and place my order. I told her I had no interest in sitting there waiting for them to prepare my order when she could easily take my order over the phone. I explained that I was unable to place it on the website to begin with and all she would say is that it's too busy. Too busy to gain a new customer I guess. Maybe they should hire more help. I'm happy there is a local restaurant that caters to our gluten-free community. But I hate to say it, this was a huge miss for us. Decided to go out for dinner instead of cooking tonight and my fiancé suggested we try out The Salted Fry. We've been wanting a poutine fix and unfortunately, we are still wanting it. We ordered the Smash burger, cheesesteak panini, and a regular poutine to share. Since we were sharing the poutine we both opted for the potato salad as our side. Our food came out about 10 mins after we'd settled into our seats which was good timing. You know how if a smash burger isn't done right it's dry? Well this one was very dry. The potato salad looked promising, but looks proved to be deceiving. It was flavorless. I tried adding salt and pepper, it didn't help. The poutine was ok. It definitely made me wish I'd chosen fries as my side over the potato salad. My fiancé had the cheesesteak panini and reported it as "not too bad" but that it was difficult to eat as the bread fell apart and the meat wasn't chopped for his liking. The inside of the restaurant is clean and has a cute whimsical woodland feel. I don't know if we'll be visiting again. For nearly $60 including tip we left feeling like we had thrown that money in the trash with our poutine. read more

This is one of those places you go to and then think about for days after because it's so good. Not to mention what a relief it is to go somewhere that makes it safe to be gluten-free without fear of cross contamination. All the flavored salts and homemade sauces make the entire menu so customizable. I can't wait to go back! Be warned that there are only so many tables inside so that's not super fun if it's a hot day because no one wants to sit outside and eat in 90+ degree weather. So good I don't even have words for it. I'm 50 million years old and should not have enjoyed the chicken fingers like a five year old. You better have the best of the best when you feature one menu item . Went into restaurant to have a large order of truffle fries and a beer. Waited a line to order. After I ordered you are left to leave a tip. A large basket of French Fries plus one beer cost $25. We left a 20% tip because it's not the servers fault. Total cost was over $29. This wasn't a good value to me to come back. The French fries were very good. Not a fan of can beer but the $9 beer was good. The person cleaning up after everyone did a great job to keep things clean. I had had the fries from their food truck but hadn't been to the restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring out your order. They have lots of loaded fry options, of course, but also several sandwiches to choose from. The chicken salad was freshly made and served in toasted bread. It was really good. As you would expect, the fries are above average. They had multiple ciders which I didn't try, but the iced tea was good and they have Stevia packets for sweetening. There is not a lot of seating inside, I'm guessing 12-15 seats, but they have covered and fanned outside seating. It was a bit pricey, but overall a nice lunch. read more

I wasn't too hungry so decided to split the fries with three others and the serving size was just enough. Line was long and we did wait over half an hour but we walked around and took the time to sightsee a bit so it went by fast. G why we're pretty friendly. Seating is limited. You had me at french fry! i took my niece to Great Scott Farms for a little Saturday Fall outing and there was one food truck with a line that outdid all the rest. Now, by the time we got to the front of the line they had just sold they're last order of fries. Now, imagine my disappointment however we were still hungry and I already had my mouth fixed for what smelled like some incredible fried potato sticks. Low and behold, just 10 minutes down the road is the permanent location of The Salted Fry. Thankfully, we were all done at the farm so, we took ourselves right on over. Downtown Mt. Dora has plenty of parking so the transition was easy. Folks must have followed us over because just as were ordering the line grew quickly out the door. Nonetheless, we ordered seamlessly, found a table outside, and our food came rather quickly. It was worth every bit of the wait and travel from the farm. The fries were hot, crispy, and well seasoned, the Reuben sandwich was cut and assembled to perfection, and the dipping sauces were an unexpected treat to accompany it all. Highly recommend. My cousin surprised me by stopping in for lunch as she knows I am gluten free. This is my first gluten free establishment and extremely satisfied! The staff was very pleasant on a family group of five. Catherine is a doll! For those who are gluten free, you understand how hard it is to get a good sandwich. We were excited to try this place since my mom is gluten free and can rarely have this type of food when we are out. It was off-putting that they nickle and dime you for any sauces you get... over $2 for a small container?! Ridiculous. There was no seasoning on anything whatsoever and it was so weird that a regular smashburger is supposed to come with all of the fixins, yet when you add bacon it suddenly becomes a burger with absolutely nothing else on it? Super disappointing experience and so expensive! It was $100 for 4 of us to get such a lackluster meal. I honestly enjoy any fast food restaurant more than this place. They also just left everyone sitting outside in the dark and didnt turn on the lights until everyone was fully struggling to see their food. To top it all off, we got food poisoning! We'd spent the day walking from the Mt Dora boardwalk trail, Island Park, then on to walk the town and shops. We'd worked up a hangry appetite when we found The Salted Fry. SO glad we did. We had the Rueben and Cheesesteak panini with their delicious fries done extra crispy per request. We also grabbed a couple of the dipping sauces, truffle and cheese.
