I was in Cabo for an event with my travel group called the Take Over. The majority of our group did excursions on Saturday. I didn't want to do excursions so I found some alternative things to do and one of the things that was highly recommended was a massage at the Sandbar. I was able to go online to book and pre-pay. I posted the information in our Facebook group and ironically there were more people that were interested in going. We had a van of 10 people and then I think there was an Uber with two more people, so 12 people total from my group went to the Sandbar at around 11 AM on Saturday. When I got there, I asked the lady that was checking us in if it was possible to get a discount or a referral bonus or something because of the number of people that I bought in and she said "no" and I guess I had no choice but to accept that. I probably should've asked in advance, but I know a lot of businesses will offer discounts when you have a group. When I tell you the massage was amazing, I loved every single minute of my 90 minute full body massage. I loved being able to listen to the ocean and just the serenity was so good. Afterwards I changed into my clothes, tipped my masseuse then went downstairs to ask for water because every time I've gotten a massage it's followed by water so that you can hydrate. When I asked the hostess about getting water I was told you have to go to the bar and pay for it. I asked her why would we pay for water when we just spent money on a massage? She told me that only the foot massage comes with a drink. Well the foot massage is significantly cheaper so I don't understand that, but OK. She then said to just go talk to the people at the bar and as I was talking to the young lady at the bar, this guy came over, I'm guessing he was the manager, Pepe, and he was giving her the signal to not give me a complementary water. I thought that not only was that rude, it was extremely poor customer service. Some of the group that I was with decided to buy some tequila shots, so it's not like we were not spending money in their establishment because we were, and to not include a one dollar bottle of water is showing me that they don't value my money and I should not spend my money at that establishment ever again. I loved the massage, but it's very important to me to have good customer service and if you can't extend me a basic courtesy, you don't deserve to have my USD or my pesos. read more

Be aware! This place is racist!! Our family is Asian and went on 3/25. The service and drink was great, so we decided to come back the next day. However, the second visit was completely different. As soon as we sat on the front row loungers, the server looked unhappy and told us there was a $40 minimum per person. I was like I didn't hear anything about that the day before, but I said okay since we were planning to have lunch anyway. Later, I noticed some white customers sitting in the same area, so I asked if they were told about the minimum. They all said no. When I asked the server why only my family was told, he looked nervous and said he needed to check with the manager. That didn't make sense--if it's a policy, why check? When he came back, he then told the other (white) customers about the $40 minimum, and several of them left right away. I really wanted to like this spot for a great massage but it was lacking. First of all it is in a building upstairs from the beach. It is not in the beach as advertised. The price is epic, $51 for a 90 minute massage, but the massage is more similar to my wife rubbing my shoulders. You must change in the bathroom, remove all of your clothes and wrap a towel around yourself then walk through a crowd to get to your table. If together with someone else there is no guarantee that you will be near one another. You are massaged in the open among the other customers and the crowd. I was yelping a good burger place in Cabo and this place popped up which is right next to our hotel! Great! They also have a massage which was more inexpensive compared to the massage place that we frequent. I could see from my balcony that this place has more customers. The other place said Sand Bar only changes their sheets and towels after serving 5 customers while they change their sheets every visit. I bought it but I don't think that's true. Anyway, back to my food review. The burgers were massive. We also ordered oysters, calamari and fish and chips. Ate on the balcony on the beach with a beautiful full red moon. We have been to The Sandbar several times for food, drinks, and massages. Each time it has been consistently excellent. Regarding the drinks and food, both have been very good; typical offerings from a Mexican beach bar. If you enjoy roots reggae similar music, you'll enjoy this place even more. The massages are also very good, and you can hear the ocean (and sometimes party music from the surrounding area) during the process. Still, a very relaxing high quality massage. Reservations are needed and can be booked online ahead of time. You can also book a reservation at the business. The drinks and food are a little pricy, since it's right on beach in the main tourist area. However, the cost for massages is reasonable and competitive with nearby establishments. However, I'm giving 3 stars overall because we didn't get the full 90 minutes we paid for. Our appointment was scheduled for 11:00 a.m., and we arrived early at 10:40 a.m. Unbeknownst to us, they started the clock when we checked in at 10:40 a.m. After the massage, I got dressed and checked my watch -- it was 12:09 p.m. That's when I realized we had been shorted on time. When I brought this up, they explained that the session started when we checked in. I really dislike this policy. Even if they counted from 10:40 a.m., it still doesn't add up to a full 90 minutes, especially since 12:09 was after I had already gotten dressed. It was disappointing to feel like we were cheated out of part of the experience. My friend and I came here while we were on a port day with royal Caribbean. We booked massages ahead of time. $38 for a full hour! Right on the beach. The sandbar is an interesting concept. The downstairs area is a bar/restaurant. You're also able to walk onto the beach and eat/drink there. We ordered a margarita while we were waiting for our massages. A bit on the sour side for us, but not bad. Once your name is called for your massage, you head upstairs. You're greeted by your masseuse and are given a basket with a towel inside. You head into the bathrooms, tight quarters just a heads up, and strip down to your liking. Just and FYI there are like 10 other patrons up there getting massages with you so if you don't want your parts out in front of everyone, maybe keep your bottoms on once you're undressed, you head to your massage table. I had two other patrons getting massages next to me. My masseuse mostly worked my back which was fine because that's where my tightest areas are. The massage itself was incredible. I felt so relaxed and at ease afterwards. They do use essential oils during the massage which I enjoyed. So I'd be crazy to give this place less than a 3 star review because it is INCREDIBLE value! I seriously can't believe how inexpensive it is!!!! So even though it wasn't a great experience, it still gets 3 stars for amazing value: It was only $54 for a 90 minute massage!!! However...Being real here - I get a lot of massages and my true opinion is it would be only 1 stars if it wasn't so cheap! BUT because it is so cheap and such amazing value = it gets 3 stars! When you arrive there you check in on the ground floor by the restaurant and then wait. Even though I was with my husband and we made our appointments together they tell you (this is in the email confirmation too) that it's not guaranteed that you'll be next to each other. Even though there was an empty massage table by mine where my husband totally could have been, instead they put my husband in a different row which didn't make sense to me. We ended up waiting a little while (they also tell you that even though you have an appointment time, they run on their own schedule so show up early and allow up to an hour extra - luckily we didn't have to wait that long and we were taken pretty much on time after arriving 25min early). When you go upstairs they give you a basket and a towel and you take off all your clothes (other than your underwear) and put your clothes in the basket and then wrap the towel around you then you walk out and find your massage therapist who leads you to a table and helps you lay down via wrapping your towel around you so you don't accidentally flash all the strangers also getting a massage right next to you! So there are 3 different sections in the roof top area (2nd floor) of Sand Bar and the restaurant is below. Each section has about 9 massage beds arranged in 3 rows of 3. Maybe it was because I was the center of the center (think the middle space if it was a tic tac toe board) but as I lay there in the middle and felt everyone walk around me, it felt like I was going to be featured on the Nightly News for being a victim of a '2nd floor building collapse' because every time anyone walked by me the entire floor shook as if each person was 800lbs and as I peered down through the face hole in the massage table I could literally see the floor shaking! It felt mega-unstable like it could collapse! Not relaxing!!!!! The ambiance had potential since there was a nice breeze being outside in the nice weather on the 2nd floor and even though you're outside crammed in like a sardine next to all the other people which I thought would be weird - the other customers were super polite like no one was loud or taking or anything - so that part was ok. The other bad part about the ambiance was because it is the middle of March and even though my kids aren't on spring break for a couple of weeks, I guess some colleges were on spring break because in addition to the club music blasting away (which honestly wouldn't be so bad - I don't mind listening to Pitbull while getting a massage Lol) but what was really annoying and intolerable was the man at the club next door with the whistle on the megaphone shouting "Arriba, Abajo" and trying to get everyone to do shots, and yelling out "let's get all the pretty ladies on the dance floor" and "Shots Shots Shots" and "Let's give a shout out to all my friends from TCU, Let's give a shoutout to all my friends from UofT, Let's give a shout out to....etc. etc. etc. then more "Arriba, Abajo, Alcentro Aldentro" then a push up contest where he continued to shout into his megaphone "Up Arriba, Down Abajo, Up Arriba, Down Abajo, Up Arriba, Down Abajo, Up Arriba, Down Abajo, for like 10 minutes straight" then he'd start blowing his whistle again into the megaphone. So annoying!!! And this was literally the middle of the day at 12:30pm it wasn't like it was nighttime or anything! Omg I had a headache after laying there for 90 minutes! The massage itself was bleh. I kept having to move my legs and arms to jostle my massage therapist awake because she kept getting distracted (or maybe she was dozing off?!) and she'd stop massaging me and she'd just have her hand resting on my body, not moving. If I was paying more than 60 cents a minute for this massage ($54 for 90 minutes!!) I would have complained. Instead, I just kept moving my arms, & moving my legs to let the massage therapist know, "Hey I'm awake and you're supposed to be giving me a massage here lady!" Even when she did massage me there was zero technique and zero pressure. However, like I said - it was $54 for 90 minutes so at the end of the day I just sucked it up since even the $18 each way for the Uber here from my hotel it all still was less expensive than the $375/90 minutes massage offered at my hotel. I will not be returning here and I will either pay up for the massage at my hotel or just not get a massage the next time I'm in Cabo (or try somewhere else) since even though it was incredible value, I did not enjoy it at all :-( read more

Well. We all know what a tourist trap looks like. And I know many don't care and will still come here. The ceviche was good and the mezcalita also good. BUT... when I asked for the check is when it all went downhill. Beware when you pay with a credit card. Definitely watch out and do not let them charge you without you looking at the charge. Without my consent, they added 20% tip when they took my credit card. It was not verbally agreed upon and they whole thing was sketch. If they hadn't done that I would've left them the same tip. This tells me a lot about the establishment. They will try to take advantage of you and then say it's all good, we will remove the charge. I spoked to them and told them that this practice is illegal. I know this won't change how busy they are but I hope readers are more aware of the scams that are frequently found in Cabo. To be honest, I was having a good time until they pulled this shit. Its not the money but the principle. We decided to try this local restaurant that had decent reviews on Trip Advisor. We booked view OpenTable. There is valet parking there which we didn't know til later but there is a parking area to park at for some pesos. There is an upstairs, mid level and downstairs. We were seated on the beach and the kids were able to go in the ocean as we waited for our food. What was a bit weird is that the staff would stand in front of our table at times and talk to the staff upstairs. When we were talking about stuff seamed like the waiter would come to ask us something but yelled above. Anyways - ask for what type of water you want. I didn't have an issue but they brought bottle water which is a charge to your bill but rather be safe than sorry right?? We had ceviche, kids had nachos dish, and ordered some tacos. Food wise was okay - they did bring more chips for the ceviche. Other then that - nothing to memorable about other then it was on the beach and had lots of tourists and vendors walking along the shore. Fantastic massage and a great bargain, $51 usd per person for a 90 minute massage. One thing to be aware of is that it's a room full of massage tables so if you aren't comfortable getting a massage with other people in the area this might not be a great location for you.
