    Duck Tsangwich

Such a cool place! Their peking duck sandwich was sooo yum, we scarfed it down even though it was big. There is an area with tables but no seating. Service was fast.

Truly just a board on the sidewalk to help me recognize that I had made it to, well, Sandwich board. I got the Duck. The Duck inside was nice and juicy, it's served with a pineapple bun, and for me it tethered on a little too sweet, which got to be a little overwhelming . But all the individual components are insane, and definitely worth coming back and picking up some new things off their menu.

The mala breakfast wrap was are so good! There was quite a line and wait on a Saturday afternoon, but worth the wait for the wrap. My friends got their sandwiches and unfortunately we weren't big fans because the bun is sweet. But I'll def be back to try the other wraps

This was my favorite out of all the restaurants I visited in NYC this time around! I was attracted by the pineapple bun sandwich (the "Duck Tsangwich")--my gut feeling said it would be gimmicky, but I've really been craving pineapple buns these days so I wanted to give it a try anyway and I AM SO GLAD I DID! The Duck Tsangwich ended up being so freaking good that I ordered a SECOND sandwich, and THAT was so good that I ordered a DESSERT, and the DESSERT was so good that I ordered ANOTHER DESSERT (that final dessert was the only thing I didn't really like from here). It was like dominoes of pure deliciousness. The first sandwich was NOT gimmicky and actually really delicious. The Cantonese-style duck inside had that super authentic sweetness & juiciness (and of course greasiness) to it and was so tender and well cooked. And don't get me started on the pineapple bun--as soon as I bit into it I actually knew I had to ask where tf they get these pineapple buns from because it was so soft and the crumble top was delicious. My only gripe with this sandwich is that Cantonese-style duck is also very sweet, so this kind of overwhelmed the lighter flavor of the crackle top which is my favorite part of the pineapple bun. But this complaint is trivial compared to the degree of deliciousness that is this sandwich as a whole. I think I'd just be really excited if they came out with a more savory sandwich that used the pineapple bun! The second sandwich I got was the Mala Tsangwich, which also ended up being amazing. I might have even liked it better than the Duck Tsangwich but there's definitely more to write about the Duck one because it's so unique. Beautiful fry on the chicken and amazing mala sauce, and though not quite true to the Sichuanese mala flavor, was definitely reminiscent of it. This review is already a fat shill post but unfortunately I have to get started on the dessert: two boluo bao cookies used to make an ice cream sandwich. LET ME TELL YOU! BO LUO BAO COOKIES ARE A 400IQ INVENTION. ABSOLUTELY REVOLUTIONARY. I actually want to buy like 100 of these cookies and have them at my wedding but unfortunately I didn't do that. Wow. Just amazing. It has a similar texture to Chinese almond cookies (a little harder and more crumbly, so if you're a soft cookie fan you might not like it much) and perfectly captures the boluobao texture/flavor on top. Absolutely incredible. Also, the guy who runs the shop is super nice. I kept coming back to make new orders so he stored my desserts in the freezer for me so they'd be fresh to eat when I finished my sandwiches! TL;DR get one of the tsangwiches (or both like me) and the boluobao cookie ice cream sandwich. This place was a revolution for my taste buds.

Absolutely amazing sandwiches. Their menu is a trip around the world and I absolutely love that about them. In the same place you can get a Malaysian breakfast roti roll and a Cuban sandwich or a Carribean coco bread packed with fish and plantains. The best part is it's all actually GOOD with flavors I've tried before but not in such a fun untraditional form. Visiting was such a pleasant surprise and I will be back without a doubt. The dining area has two large tables that can fit four to six people and then there's a couple very narrow tables against the wall that can fit maybe four people. It's not the largest space but it's good enough. There's also some outdoor seating. If you're vegetarian they can sub the meats for a hashbrown patty. Can't wait to see what else they cook up!

    Storefront

It's a tiny storefront specializing in Asian fusion sandwiches. Prices are quite good - between $12-16 for a sandwich. Judging from the menu, I had high hopes and was slightly disappointed. I ordered the Mala Tsangwich, and while the presentation was superb, the flavor was lacking and bland. The sandwich barely had any mala spice and the chicken was too dry for my taste. Way too mild, and I sorta got bored of eating it halfway through. Right now, I can't recommend the Sandwich Board, but I'd love to come back and get proven wrong with another sandwich.

I came here because I really wanted to try the Duck Tsangwich but this was unfortunately a miss for me. I didn't mind the sweetness and the flavors that some others had mentioned. What bothered me was how dry the duck AND the bread were. The bread was so airy and dry (nothing like a true buoluo bao. I also felt like the lettuce and other ingredients did not look fresh at all. Overall, I think the idea is great and could be amazing but just wasn't executed well here.

    Egg Our Sando

I've been wanting to try this place for a while, and today I was specifically craving an egg sandwich, so when I saw it on the menu, I had to go. Now, I'll start by saying I make a pretty good egg salad sandwich myself. I've used milk bread and Kewpie mayo before, so I know how a proper Japanese-style sando should taste. Traditionally, it's made by mixing soft-boiled and hard-boiled eggs for a specific texture and richness, but unfortunately, this version missed the mark. I'm sure the other sandwiches here are great, but this one just wasn't it. The filling was overly creamy, more like a regular mayo-based egg salad, and the flavor wasn't quite right for a proper sando. I also couldn't tell if they used milk bread or brioche, either way, the bread didn't have the right texture or taste. I want to be back to try something else, but I'd skip the egg sandwich. I would have tried to swap it out for something else, but I had somewhere to be.

This is a super tiny takeout storefront in Chinatown. You order at the window, they give you a number, and call it when your food is ready. I got the tsangwich with peking duck. It comes on a bolo bao which is one of my favorite things ever so I was very excited. My sandwich came out within like 10-15 minutes and I went to the park nearby to eat it. Unfortunately the bread was already a little soggy. But it was still delicious! I'd love to come back and try other sandwiches here.

    Steak & Potatoes
    Richie R.

A takeout only spot, with a great selection on the menu. Having a weekly speciality sandwich it's always interesting to see what new combination they're going to come out with. I got the steak and potato's and it was great just thinking about it makes my mouth water as the steak was juicy and the combination of favors in the sandwich were delicious. I can't wait to come back and slowly eat the whole menu lol

    Thai crab roll special
    Danielle F.

I work about a 15 minute walk away from the sandwich board and I make a point to try the weekly special as often as possible. My colleagues and I love the mala chicken tsangwich. They are both loyalists to the tsangwich and get it every week. One is vegetarian and substituted the chicken with a hash brown every time and loves it although I'm not fully convinced of its nutritional equivalence. Of the sandwiches I tried I quite liked the mala tsangwich and the lockhardt mercado. For me the meatball parm special was decent and the vodka dip was a great pairing. Misses for me have been the duck tsangwich (the pineapple bun was way too sweet for my tastes), Thai crab roll (good amount of crab but a lot of lettuce and not much flavor - more of a bitter taste), taverna shrimp wrap (very soupy from the vinegairette that dissolved the bottom of the wrap). However I will still continuing trying the specials! After all there's a reason they're not on the permanent menu. I love trying out all these experiments. Keeps life interesting. The guys are super nice and last time passed out soup to everyone dining in and waiting in line. They just finished up renovation on their indoor seating and it's quaint. Definitely come by and try a sandwich!

Came for lunch on a weekday around 1 PM and there was a short line that moved fast. They operate out of a tiny window / it's takeout only, but they'll give you a tray if you use the chairs out front. Mala tsangwich (crispy chicken) was amazing. Definitely will be back for more!

    Peking duck Tsangwich

I've been on the hunt for unique pineapple bun sandwiches since coming back from HK, and The Sandwich Board answered my prayers. It's literally a hole in the wall with exactly four curbside chairs for you to dig into your sandwiches - that is if you must have it then and there. I can confirm they would survive a 1 hr car ride back to Brooklyn and still be warm and delicious if you like to eat in the comfort of your humble abode (‍), though. God knows why I was fixated on the sandwich menu and totally ignored the breakfast menu that runs until 4pm, thinking that I didn't want toast with eggs and avocado. It wasn't until I was leaving that I saw the breakfast menu was equally as unique as the sandwich menu options. Rather than avocado toasts, they had items like pineapple bun in the form of a French toast sando. Not to mention, they were all a couple bucks cheaper than the sandwich menu dishes. But I do have to warn you, be prepared to fork out an extra buck on top of the regular price for the breakfast foods due to the egg shortage. What I did end up getting was the tsangwich. It's the only pineapple bun sandwich on the menu. You can either choose chasiu pork ($14) or Peking duck ($15) as the filling, and I went with the latter without any hesitation. Listen, chasiu pork is relatively cheaper and more accessible than Peking duck, so you do the math. The tsangwich seemed to be what most people were getting, so I felt assured going with that. Turns out I should've bought a lottery ticket that day. It was delicious and very cheesy. The tomato was definitely the cherry on top. However, it wasn't as Peking duck-like as I thought it would be despite all the traditional Peking Duck ingredients that were included. The bread was so soft and bouncy that it was almost better than regular Chinese bakery buns. It's definitely worth a try. The second item in my order - I wasn't as confident about but it sounded just as good as the other 13 choices left. The Austin Chinatown ($13) was braised brisket on a regular bao. I typically have an aversion to super meaty food but this sandwich was well-balanced. However, the Tsangtastic was unbeatable. I need to come back to try the others!

Every visit reminds you why Parisi has survived since 1903 while trends and neighbors came and went. Let's talk about The Dennis--the undisputed star and a true signature sandwich. This thing is a monster, built on Parisi's legendary fresh-baked bread that somehow stays crisp, chewy, and perfect no matter how much goodness gets piled inside. You get a crispy breaded chicken cutlet layered with thin-sliced prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, and (if you know what you're doing) roasted red peppers. It's all brought together with their house balsamic blend and basil herb spread/pesto--bright, savory, and completely addictive. I cannot confirm or deny that the sandwich is named after me, but I can confirm it's flawless. Pro tips: * Cash only, old-school rules apply. * Come hungry or plan ahead--this sandwich is big enough to share or save half for later, and it still eats beautifully round two. * Tip the sandwich makers. These folks are artists, and the tip box deserves some love. Beyond the food, Parisi is living New York history. From its origins as an Italian bakery on Mott Street, to feeding generations of locals, to being famously beloved by Frank Sinatra (yes, the bread was shipped to California), this place is woven into the fabric of Little Italy/Nolita. Legends like De Niro and Scorsese are fans, and you can still feel that old-world soul--right down to the original brick oven relic resting in the basement. Parisi isn't just a deli. It's continuity. It's tradition. It's proof that when you do one thing incredibly well for over a century, people keep coming back. And once you've had The Dennis, you will too.
