Went here for a company meal. Ordered 2 lbs. of rib-eye and ate them both! The waitress said she was impressed. 1 steak is more than enough for the average human adult male. My supervisor said I was greedy and a bad employee for ordering two steaks LOL. What can I say... I'm a big eater. Regardless it was well worth it. Since Instagram stalks me, a story popped up about the Ribber and sure enough, it looked delicious and we had to go. The lovely Mrs knows how much I love to get in the car and drive to try some new place that's a local mom and pop store. So foodie road trip(300 miles round trip) on an absolutely perfect day... we get there, find out the entrance is in the back so not too bad as you get to walk by the sea of grills and get to smell and see the steaks being prepared. The aroma is just mesmerizing. Enter and immediately seated. Servers are super nice and attentive. Stopping by almost always with perfect timing with a simple and pleasant, 'do you have any questions about the menu?', and when I asked they'd smile and answer any questions I had. Always refilling out drinks without having to wait or ask. If you knew me, you'd you that this is kind of refreshing. We ordered the homemade cheeseball as an appetizer, it was pretty good but not the highlight of the meal that's for sure because for the entree we ordered the infamous steak to share and we were not disappointed. I've had steaks from places that were 2x-3x the price of the steak at the Ribber and the ribeye here was as good and even better than some of those high dollar places. All this without the feeling that I am underdressed for the store. Sides were green beans as recommended by a fella we talked to in the parking lot. And they were sooo good. If you are vegetarian or vegan, the green beans may not be for you as these appear to be soaked in the au jus from steaks. Baked potato was our second side and it had been cooked on one of the grills(?) as it had charring on the skin. Everything was delicious. The folks working here are super nice and the store was incredibly clean. You really can't ask for a better dining experience. Will we go back? Visited for the first time while visiting family in the area. This restaurant is known for their giant steaks! The small steak will easily feed two adults at 16 oz, and the large steak is 32 oz. We did made a reservation as they can fill up quickly on a weekend evening. We started with an order of fried zucchini, and it was delicious! Our party of 7 had steak, shrimp, chicken, and ribs for entrees, and everyone was pleased with their meals. This is an interesting place. It was my first visit there, so the experience I am sharing with you is just what it is. It was kind of neat to enter through the back door. Maybe they do that because we had to pass by the huge smoker grills and was able to see where the meat is grilled. That in and of itself illicits my typical response when I see and smell something eye or nose popping, HOT DAMN! I loved it. Just inside was a cool little area decorated with sports pictures and other illustrations mainly showing their support for the Cincinnati Bengals. I'm all the way a Steelers fan but I expect no less in southern Ohio so it was nice to see pictures and memorabilia of the Bengals. There is so much more. They had pictures of the Portsmouth Spartans who went on to be the Detroit Lions. Another customer saw me taking pictures of some of the pictures and told me a little history about a town that I had never heard of until a month ago. Ok, back to the Ribber, the service was solid from the time we entered the building. A host greeted us as we walked in and said he'd be right back to take us to our seats as we was seating two other families. Before he returned another hostess came along, just as friendly, and seated us. Walking through the dining area I noticed a lot of happy faces with plates of great looking food. Our server was a sweet young lady who was attentive to our needs. Although the place was packed our food arrived fast. We ordered the sampler for an appetizer. It was so good. All of it, but my favorite was the pepper Jack cheese chunks. The others with me liked the cauliflower flower bites and the corn nuggets. My mouth was watering for one of their steaks starting at $32.95 was priced out of my budget so I ordered the ribs. It was a major let down. I was expecting country style ribs but got pork steaks. They were still really good, but it was not what I thought I ordered. Their BBQ sauce very tasty. It had just enough sweetness to blend in with the other spices to make it a great sauce. The sides were really small. I had the fried potato chips and green beans. Both were delicious, but really small portions. Oh my...never seen a place like this. We travel and dine at restaurants all across this country, but when we turned onto the street in front of the Scioto Ribber, the smell told us we were about to eat something special. 7 massive grills are cooking over wood and the taste is amazing. There were 3 of us, and we ordered to split the large 32 ounce (2 huge slabs) of smoked ribeye, perfectly marbled. Along with that we got the green beans (soaking in the steak juice), Ribber fries, and a cheese ball. Each was unique, and each amazingly delicious. The steak, though, was worth the trip to Portsmouth, Ohio. And, oh yeah, the service was great, too. We will reroute to eat at The Scioto Ribber again. Simply Amazing! read more

Been here a few times and the steaks are always great and service is always good as well! Knocking off one star though because their sides could use some work, especially for the price you pay. We arrived around 6 on a Saturday night and the place was packed, we were given a 1 1/2 to 2 hour wait time. As this was our first trip here and we had our minds set on eating here we decided to wait. Much to our surprise we were called just under hour later! I haven't been in this place on a Saturday for a couple years. Menu has changed but the basics are still there. I ordered my "lite lunch". Quarter Chicken with baked potato and yes, it's still a winner. If you're looking for slaw, both are good but today I had German Style. It's in a small carry out container but that's always been the case. You're still not able to finish the beverage or the Strip/Ribeye! My eyes noticed a few changes to the decor but it's mostly the same place. The Ribber may be bigger with lots of outside seating options. You might be like us, it's not about the atmosphere but character is important and this place provides great value and consistency. Today, I will take it. This is an interesting place but I loved it. When we walked up they have a bunch of open flame grills going under an overhang. I thought we were in trouble. We had a bit of a wait but they were jam packed on a Saturday night so not a big deal. Our waitress did a good job. She was polite and attentive. We went for steaks and they've got 4 choices. A "small" ribeye (16 oz) and a large one (32 oz) and same for the strips. We both went with the small ribeye and man was it great! It's a real bummer updating this but I'm bummed! We were in town visiting my Father-in-law who has been sick. We live about an hour away. When leaving town my husband mentioned ribbers BBQ sandwich being pretty inexpensive. Pulled up the menu and $5.65. I added on a pork tenderloin, with the same price tag. We ordered for carryout. Carryout was prompt and efficient. Being an alumni of SSU and working as a server long ago, there in college I see so many people I know when I'm in town. I knew one of the lead girls and was so pleased to see her I thought I must have misheard the amount. Steep but I hadn't been paying too much attention. 17+ for two sandwiches!? Incorrect menu pricing. To add, we started out towards home and no silverware or napkins. The BBQ is put together yourself so utensils would have come in handy. I am from the area, and I thought that I would take my swiss friends down to have some great food from here. It is what you would expect from a great restaurant, the walls were dedicated to famous people who have visited the area, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the shriners. Being a member of the Shriners, it was good to see them have a couple plaques on the wall, where they donated a lot of money, and the river is a big supporter of them. We sat next to the bar, so our service was excellent. There were a couple other patrons in there, eating, and I couldn't wait to dig into have my pork ribs. If you're in the area, this is a must stop!! We made a motorcycle ride to Portsmouth for the Ribber. It was a super hot summer day, during COVID, but the service was excellent! I wish I knew her name because she did not slip one time! I ordered a vodka tonic w/ lime from the bar, I only had one, it didn't seem very vodka to me. We ordered the mushrooms as a starter, they were great. The main selections on the menu are heavy. All of them. The sides are heavy bbq sides too. One such a hot day, I wasn't interested in overeating. I ordered a chicken salad. It was great, but still seemed to have half a chicken on it- hahaha. I do wish I had asked for the cheese on the side. I guess it's value for your money!! My guy ordered the ribeye and still, two weeks later says it's the best ribeye he has ever had. I absolutely love the ribber! They have amazing steaks and their "ribs" (bone in pork chops cut to look like ribs can be really great too. To be honest the ribs are hit and miss. Sometimes they're amazing and sometimes they're so dry. However, the steaks are always amazing! I love their ranch dressing and the fact that when you order a salad they bring the bottle of ranch dressing to the table.
